Any review recommendation from me better than OK is very high praise indeed. So when I rate this app as excellent, well thought out, highly refined, extremely powerful and with a very elegant user interface, I'm giving it the highest recommendation I can. It is without question the best calculator app available for iOS devices that I have come across, and I've hunted through quite a few. If you're an RPN user then you'll love it and if you're not yet using RPN then it offers the conventional algebraic format too (until you wise up and switch to RPN). In-app upgrades are well packaged and well priced to suit all user needs. If like me you want it all, then just go straight to the full version. Thank you James Thompson and TLA Systems Ltd! I suggested this to the developer some time ago and have been checking the updates ever since. Just now with this latest update my wishes have come true. Ever since Uni, I've always gone for my trusty old FX calculator as it includes SI Prefixes and makes electronics engineering calculations so much easier. Now I can server my ties and rely wholly on PCalc. Entry of SI Prefixes can easily be done by hitting EXP after your value & selecting for example -6 for micro. One day I'm hopeful that these will show on the number key pad with the 2nd function. But for now it's just awesome! You can buy other modules from inside the app I've seen, but I don't need any of that. This is free and I think it looks nice as well, you can change the way the digits look (digital style or a normal round font) and you can change the typing sound (iOS style or those cheap calculators sound). Correct implementation will show the same number of significant digits as specified. The flawed implementation controls only digits after the decimal. Thus the significant digits shown is different depending on value. Very annoying. (See HP for correct approach.) If this is all that’s wrong, then these folks have produced a top quality product. Having tried various calculators out there, this is the one I decided to stick with and, in my opinion, is better than many of the paid calculators out there. ✓ Memory functions on Widget insteadI am a very basic calculator user, and I find that Pcalc app has been the best calculator so far that is great at its features. Most of all, it has the widget feature which many calculator app may not have. Though, I think that the widget’s functions of 1/x, x! etc, other than % and +-, should be replaced with M+, M-, MC and MR as these are the most commonly used features for basic calculator, especially as a widget. The calculator i,s perhaps not always the most intuitive in the way it functions but regular use builds familiarity. ✓ A brilliant appI've been using PCalc for several months and I think it's a really pleasing app to use. I know it's only a calculator but I was brought up on Reverse Polish Notation and it is so satisfying to have a calculator that works this way again. Every time I use PCalc, it takes me back to my HP-21! In some ways it's better than the HP because the bigger display shows what's in each of the registers. The Lite (free) version is great but the full version for me has been worth the price. As I upgraded in-app, I haven't been able to add this review to the full version..Version: 2.7.1
✓ Little hiccup with the update, but all great again now...Since the previous update it started displaying everything longer than three digits in scientific notation. However, a 'Reset to defaults' in the settings resolved that (in case anyone finds the same issue). To fix in the notifications applet, there is a 'mode' button which allows the change.
