Guru Maps - Navigate Offline for Positive User Reviews

Great MapsI have been using Galileo Offline Maps to find my way around Swiss and Austrian towns and cities this May and june 2015, They have proved to be easy to use and a most productive mapping tool. With the offline maps stored on ones phone there is no need to access the phone network in order to get access to the maps one needs. Ck.Version: 3.2.12

An excellent programI have created a database containing all of New Zealand's Topo50 map series, and I use Galileo to display it. Using Galileo I can zoom out to see the whole country, or zoom in to any locality, in just a couple of seconds - it works equally well on both iPhone and iPad, and the fact that my map database file is 5Gb in size does not trouble it at all. Zooming is fast, but I also like its tracking ability and other features..Version: 2.2

Great AppPerfect for offline map coverage. Great for walking and cycling. Five stars from me.Version: 4.8.3

Offline map usage clarification - App does work but require in-app purchase!I felt the need to write a review due to some of the confusing reviews on this app. I just returned from traveling in Asia and was very appreciative of this app while traveling for being able to access offline maps on my ipod touch 4g. Yes, you do have to make in-app purchase in order to activate the function of importing maps. I downloaded the maps that I needed via the PC utility from Galileo's website and imported the map files unto the ipod touch prior to traveling. It was very simple and straight forward as I just followed the instructions that came with the utility. I appreciated the ability to be able to download detailed mapping from anywhere in the world and being able to utilize the maps without having internet connection. It made traveling by foot and sight-seeing alot simpler for me. In summary, great app, but does need in-app purchase to realize full potential. (you can also cache previously viewed map areas while online with the free version, but I don't trust the device's caching).Version: 2.0.3

Great appLike the new 3.1 features.Version: 3.1.1

Customer serviceCustomer service is excellent and prompt.Version: 3.9.0

Not bad for 1 dollar appI'd really like feature, when I can select area and then download all tiles for it up to some zoom with prediction, how much memory it would take on the storage..Version: 2.1.2

Amazing for travel! This app is fantastic for travel. if you download your maps and remove your SIM card, or turn off data you can still use your phones gps capabilities. I imported a google map of locations I wanted to visit in iceland and it worked flawlessly..Version: 3.1.3

Fab appWonderful navigational app !!.Version: 4.0.1

Great when going abroad / visiting countrysideI always rely on Galileo whenever I go abroad or visit countryside where data connection is unreliable. It has some nice features as well - it shows you the distance between two points in a straight line by tapping them simultaneously and also shows you how fast you are travelling. There is one issue with this app however - after the app is upgraded, I need to re-download the map. I got in a bit of trouble when finding out the map I had downloaded previously was absent and I had no internet connection. Otherwise it's an amazing app..Version: 3.3.1

Take bad reviews with a pinch of saltIt always pains me to see reviewers give bad reviews because of their own shortcomings. If you can't work out how to operate the (extremely simple) app, or can't be bothered to read the app page to find out what it does, then just don't bother reviewing it - there's no need to get angry just because you're an idiot. To redress the balance: * Galileo downloads maps from various online sources such as OpenStreetMap. There are about a dozen choices of map at the moment. Any faults or inadequacies in the mapping are not to do with Galileo; it's merely providing you a way to access the pre-existing online third-party maps. I tried 4 different maps of my immediate (urban) area in SE England and all were extremely detailed and accurate. * It is NOT hard to download maps to this product. Simply choose the map, navigate and zoom to where you want a map of. Galileo then caches the maps; you can delete the cache if you want to free up memory, otherwise the map is now on your device. There is no need to use any desktop application unless you choose to. It really couldn't be easier..Version: 1.9.2

Great, but...Great interface, easy to use. Fast and stable. The key feature it lacks (that would earn it five stars) is route planning..Version: 3.0.4

Cycle mapsHey the new update has restored open cycle maps. Back to 5 stars.Version: 4.1.2

Lifechanging app - travel on a whole new levelI never would have guessed how completely this app has improved my experience traveling both for pleasure and for research. I'm continually astounded by the level of detail available in the tiny little back paths of places like Sicily and Cyprus, and on a number of occasions I have discovered new sites I didn't even know to search for. The GPS populates the map even with no mobile service or data, meaning that the app can be used for navigating in real time virtually anywhere in the world, and all that is needed is a little advance planning (with a wifi connection). Getting (unwillingly) lost and buying copious and unwieldy paper maps are things of the past..Version: 3.3.10

Great App - Never be unsure of where you are when you lose mobile dataI love this app, it is so useful when travelling and you don't want to use roaming mobile data, which will cost you money. I like to do my homework and use bookmarks to mark places of interest which I normally do before we leave home. Once abroad if I need any more maps I can then use wifi in our hotel to add and download any further maps if needed when we know what we are doing that day. I also spend time in remote and bad reception mobile data areas when I visit isolated places in Scotland so by downloading the areas I need before we leave home on our own wi fi it gives us access to all the maps we need. This app also very accurately places you with gps exactly where you .... No getting lost. I must also add I had a small glitch with the maps between my iPhone and iPad I contacted Galileo support and received prompt and good replies which sorted my problems in a timely manor. Well done guys..Version: 2.5

Galileo - excellentExcellent map visibility and zoom is instantaneous. Thr bookmark system is comprehensive and allows import or export very good to use.Version: 3.4.2

Great appThis is a great app for walking and cycling and general navigation. I have used it for 6 years in Europe and Australia. The open source maps have great detail and the ability to also use online maps like Google maps and Google satellite is very useful. Works fast and is stable. Interacts with my database providing a complete mapping solution for travellers whether it be by vehicle, bike or hiking..Version: 5.1.0

Use this every day even within my own cityI'm not one to rave about apps just because, but Galileo is really the best app for travellers. Download all your maps when you have a WiFi connection and use them everywhere. But it's the highly intuitive design, with excellent features that just work, that rate the 5 stars. Touch 2 points and it shows you the distance between them. Choose offline vs online map modes. The new vector map feature with auto download makes it a no-brainer (used to be somewhat convoluted and "techy" to get offline maps before). You can use the free version but the "Bookmark" feature alone is worth the $4 for the package. But you can always try the non-pro free version and buy in-app the features that make it essentially the same as the Pro version (though I thinkn it's logistically simpler to delete the non-Pro and install the Pro version once you decide to buy, otherwise you will always have the "non-Pro-with-in-app-purchase" version)..Version: 3.2.8

Has some unique featuresThis app have some unique features hard to find elsewhere. Has very good track management, and it is the only app where i can find info on track just by touching it on map. Developer very responsive..Version: 3.1.3

Good app, but not perfect yet.If you want to view offline google maps on your iPhone, then this is the app for you. You'll need to read the Galileo Offline Maps Support page to work out how to do this…google it to find out more. This app allows you to view maps without any internet connection, (and still get a GPS signal). What you can't do offline is search for locations…you'll need internet access for this. However you can add bookmarks and view them offline. I have a iPhone 3G, and a negative for this app is that if you are walking, the app's screen orientation flips between portrait to landscape. Therefore this app has NO screen orientation lock. This can be annoying when you are walking and your hands are swinging. Therefore I rate this app only FOUR stars..Version: 2.1.1

Fantastic ToolUsed this app when i was route learning at work. Record function was fantastic to have..Version: 3.9.0

GreatIt's the best offline map app out there. Simply preview you trip on WiFi and this app cashes every area you looked at..Version: 1.5

Guru MapsAs a infrastructure engineer, this is by far one of the best map apps on the market! Thank you Developers!.Version: 4.1.3

Excellent appJust bought this a few days ago and have been playing around with it a bit and so far I have been pretty impressed. I have been looking for an off line world map for a while and so far this is the best I have seen. although technically it is not offline since you do need Internet to initially cache the map but once that is done it is available off line. Needs further functionality like searching which has been promissed in further updates. I've kept back one star until I see the updates but so far so good..Version: 0

Works perfectlyGreat app. Works really well. Offline feature requires a small addition purchase, but it's well worth it and works flawlessly. Can't speak highly enough of this app..Version: 0

Great appThis app is really useful to someone wanting to make their own kml/gpx layers and view them in the field without an Internet connection. All the add-ons are simply a great bonus. The recording feature is genius. I seem to have issues uploading kml files at times but gpx files work every time - hence the four stars. Keep up the good work!.Version: 2.5.2

Best offline map appUsed this on a trip to Croatia. Better detail than Google maps, and the caching is totally transparent. Just view the places you want at the resolution you want and the app will save them for offline viewing. Highly recommended..Version: 2.5.2

Wonderful appThis app is awesome especially with the fact that u can use it offline once the map is downloaded for ur country. Pls keep improving it cos it helps with getting coordinates airborne especially for operations..Version: 4.9.8

I couldn't live without it.I have been using this app for nearly a year now, and I can't imagine life without it. I Can't rate it highly enough. I use it all the time, from travelling foreign countries to simply plotting friends address at home..Version: 3.3.8

Great for SF Bay Area hikingThe best app I have found for hiking directions in the SF Bay Area. The app is awesome..Version: 4.5.6

MrWe used this app to travel all over Europe. It took the place of many maps. Because we were on bicycles GPS was of no use as it always tried to put us on main roads. We simply loaded the next few days likely route while on line to a detailed scale then used it off line while travelling- fantastic as it provided a scale just impossible to find on maps. We would never travel with out this application..Version: 2.2.1

Highly useableThis is just brilliant. It does all the things default maps Google and Apple do not let you do like add your own places to maps manage off line maps, turn on and off your saved places, store places in folders set bearing. Ideal for going on holiday and having a map to hand with your apartment marked on the map available off line with off line searching. Best of all you can save any places coordinates and add to the notes section of your contacts for safe saving away. It even lets you measure distances by putting 2 fingers on the map. Really good app, respect to the developers..Version: 3.2.12

Great for offline mapsDoes exactly what I wanted, which was to be able to import downloaded map that I created with the Global Atlas Creator (which was also easy to use). Well worth the extra for the offline map import feature..Version: 2.3

Just what I needed!Seems to be a good enough map app, getting it to display what you want offline is a bit of a hassle if you want large areas to be avalible, but it does work well. All in all for the $5 I spent, I am quite pleased..Version: 2.0.3

Great offline map ( no need internet ), accurate infoI am currently in China. Google maps cant function here ( Apple Maps provide wrong info ). So I use this app as free version and it is WOW!!! Really good app, no need internet connection ( I dont buy 3G simcard in China since i cant use Google services here) and this app give me the accurate location, accurate maps. I can find the metros stations easy by just looking at the app's map (if you travel by yourself, you will know how valuable is a good map ). I decided to give this app a review since it helped me so much. I also buy the pro features to support the creators. Good job and hope you can make it better !.Version: 3.2.12

I keep finding more uses for GalileoI use Galileo quite a bit for trip planning, but also for tracking my travels in real time. it works well for any travel, including motorcycling and hiking. I use several other tools -- the iPhone is the best gps device I know of, largely because of so many good single purpose apps. like all these specialty apps Galileo has a bit of a learning curve. this is because being out and about on your own has a very steep curve. these days I worry that my favorite apps will fall out of support--some already have. but Galileo is updated frequently and draws from reliable map sources. it's a deal, for sure! if it became a subscription service, I would be a loyal subscriber. they pack a lot of value into a very reasonable purchase price..Version: 3.3.1

So, so good.I used this for a trip around China, and it worked wonderfully. Does exactly what it says on the box. Well done! I created my own atlas using MOBAC and imported it, but found that it wasn't really needed. Tracked my progress and made squiggly lines all the way from Hong Kong to Nehe in far northern china. My father has bought an iPad just for this app, which is a big thing as he's been a PC nerd forever. Such a good app..Version: 2.3

This App Rocks!I used this App on my UK trip it was awesome, so many great features. I give it 11 out of 10.Version: 5.4.0

Priceless Mapping AppI use Galileo overseas because I can download the maps I need at home, then navigate without access to Wifi/3G. Add to that the (premium/paid) track saving feature, and its like leaving a trail of digital breadcrumbs to return to your origin (eg hotel). I would've wasted hours on holidays in Kathmandu, Phnom Penh and Kuala Lumpur trying to navigate with paper map and compass. I highly recommend this software to any intrepid adventurer! Its a *lot* cheaper than mobile roaming charges..Version: 3.1

New UserJust learning how to use Guru Maps. Enormous potential! Applying it to aerial survey of protected areas in Africa. Looking forward to mastering it in aid of Biodiversity Conservation..Version: 4.8.9

Love this Guru appI use it frequently on my daily walks and trade images of my route with my daughter in CA. We also enjoy sharing flowers and nature photos we see along our route. It uses NO Cellular Data and doesn’t track us.Version: 4.8.3

DrVery good app esp if you travel a lot and want to save $ from ridiculous roaming fees. Navigation would be a nice extension for this app..Version: 2.4.3

Offline mapsOffline Vector maps can quickly and easily be preloaded all at once. This is great, but the. I discovered you can pre-download tiles too, and they are cached. I used this ability to get topographical tiles (OSM cycle). Best feature is the ease with which I can transfer a GPX file (via Dropbox, just click "share") to this app. Now I can have a track to follow in real time. I am very experienced with Garmin devices for outdoor navigation, and honestly, this app beats the pants off any Garmin I have used in terms of map draw times and reliability. That may be thanks partially to the great Apple hardware, but this app is well designed with clear, understandable menus. Finally, it is free. Wow!.Version: 3.3.1

Must have for advanced mappingThis is my go-to app for anything that Google or Apple Maps can’t handle. With selectable map sources, downloadable vector maps, decent navigation, and rock solid track recording, it does everything I need. It even works offline with a little preparation..Version: 4.5.4

Galileo Offline MapsFor me, this app has to be one of the best offline Map apps I've looked at. Sure there may be some flaws with this program seeing there is no search function or route planner, but that’s what the Maps app on your device is for. An update to add more features would be nice. The “My Locations” feature is able to find where you are, so it's great if you get lost. Overall this app is great for finding roads, looking for locations without Wifi, and there is no limit to MAP SIZE DOWNLOADING. Also I would definitely suggest buying the "Download Offline Maps" feature where you can use Mobile Atlas Creator and select a location of your choice and make it available offline, then import it to your iPod. 4/5 :).Version: 1.5

Great AppSuch a handy app. I use it all the time. Perfect..Version: 3.3.10

EfficientGood simple to use app. Not over cluttered. Well done..Version: 3.3.4

Fantastically useful App.......Very efficient at getting a birdseye view of anywhere, in fabulous detail, and in differenr map styles... Then pressing the ipad sleep button and at the same time press the ipad home button. This takes a snapshot of the map detail to use offline. These are kept in photo's folder. Very Very useful tool at a bargain price. Recommended..Version: 2.0.3

Best app on my phoneIt takes a bit of work to make map creator work but easy once worked out. Worth the money for the downloader. Brilliant when out my bike. I was looking for something simple and quick which worked offline and used OS maps. This is it..Version: 0

Highly functionalAn amazing cheap app! Now I can create a bike route in Google Earth and export the file and view in this app to follow the route. The map needs to automatically move and keep up with the phone's position as the phone moves along a route, otherwise you have to keep pressing the 'go to current position' button. Points need to display their number on screen without having to tap the point. An extra button to create a waypoint is needed while recording a route. Excellent customer service!.Version: 2.4.1

Best Maps AppI use this app all the time to find walking and cycling tracks around Victoria Australia . Opencycle, vector, hikebikemap best ever and maps are open source so get updated by users all the time.Version: 3.3.10

Works for me...!Galileo solved a simple but very important problem for me, navigating a car without an Internet connection. Followed the instructions to get a high resolution map onto the device via Dropbox and paid for the offline maps and gps tracking capability and bingo - the many wiggly roads of Majorca become easy to follow. You couldn't do that relying on roadsigns there. Fine on ipad3 and prevented the usual domestic dramas associated with being lost in foreign parts. Nice job chaps!.Version: 2.1.3

Best navigation appThe best navigation app I have ever used. I really love it.Version: 3.10.3

Potential life saverThe ability to access maps and GPS navigation is great here in New Mexico, where cell service is nil away from urban areas..Version: 5.0.10

Pretty goodI'm using it because my favourite, Locus Maps, doesn't run on Apple. So far l've managed to do most of the things I could do on Locus. No option for offline topographic maps is the most serious problem so far..Version: 4.6.3

Galileo Offline MapsThis program does exactly what it is supposed to do. However, to use it, you must follow instructions carefully. If you want to make a set of offline maps, you have to use mobile atlas creator, and you have to buy the import map feature within the app. Your maps can then be loaded into Galileo. Google maps was removed as a map source in version 1.9 of mobile atlas creator for copyright reasons, but it is still available in the previous version. I just searched Google for version 1.8 of mobile atlas creator and downloaded it. Google maps was then available as a source. However, I got an error message when I tried to convert to an sqlite database file, which is needed for Galileo. There is a library that you must download and place in the mobile atlas creator directory. This is mentioned in the documentation for Mobile Atlas creator. After that, it worked beautifully, and I have offline maps of any region I choose on my iPad. The Galileo website has a help file for making offline maps and importing them, which was a big help. This program is excellent..Version: 2.0.3

Great little appExactly what I was looking for. Thanks for an excellent app! Go to the developer website and load in Google map data. This basically gives you the offline mode that Google Maps app for iPhone is sadly lacking. Great for planning overseas city breaks- need never get lost again and no need to turn on overseas data roaming. Simply cache the map area you want via wi-fi before you leave, and when you arrive the GPS will show you where you are. Note: on iPhone, GPS will work when data roaming is turned off, but won't work in airplane mode..Version: 2.5.2

Really Great Map AppI use Galileo in Australia, UK, USA, UAE, China and when flying over Europe to identify features below. I use it across multiple iOS devices and sync my tracks between them. As well as recording tracks, I am able to plot a track using Google Earth before I leave for a walk or cycle then import that track into Galileo so that I can follow it (or not) as desired. With the track on the device I can always get back to it after getting 'lost'. Easy to use. Easy to update the maps. Highly recommended..Version: 3.4.1

Great !Works perfectly for me (ipad 2 - ios 5.1). It's for sure the fastest loading map up there ! I love the choice we have with different maps layouts :-) For me it replace the use of "google map" on my iPad. When will we have the chance to have a Galileo app for Mac ?.Version: 2.0.3

Accurate & efficient! If your looking for an offline map, this is it!.Version: 4.6.8

Best offline GPS I've tried yetThis app is really good, because you can import satellite maps and other .ms files and get directions for anything you use offline like car, bike and walking. If your looking for an offline gps with satellite or just looking for one, Get this one. It's probably the best. You need a subscription for the imports, but there's a 7 day trial and its only 2 dollars a month..Version: 4.9.1

Rock solid navigation and offline map viewerI’ve been using Guru maps for many years in multiple countries including Mongolia, Costa Rica, Indonesia, Australia and the USA. The maps are accurate, the downloaded versions are quick and snappy in areas where WiFi and cellular are hard to come by. The developer is awesome! We get new features all the time, customer service is great, and updates for each OS come quickly after apple releases any updates. This is a map app for pros..Version: 4.8.3

GoodThe best Map softwar i'v been used.Version: 2.4.3

GuruExcellent map app. Especially like the downloaded maps. Have used it to fly along roads in the mountains in a Cessna where cellular is spotty. Fast response on tech service questions..Version: 5.3.0

Feet unit for peaksPlease add an option to display the mountain peaks in feet. Currently they are only in meters..Version: 4.8.2

Fantastic backup to GPSI use LocusMaps on my cycling tours running on my Samsung phone. Amazing piece of software which has navigated me from Bilbao to St Malo without fault. And as backup, I transfer the route to Guru on my iPad, instead of carrying paper maps. The ability to zoom and to switch different parts of the route on and off is s great facility. Don’t leave home without it!.Version: 4.0.8

Love this map programI have used Guru maps for year. (Before they renamed it). I love the route tracking. We travel a lot and it is great documentation for where and when we have been. I also use it on bike trips that we take from time to time. So I have markers and route tracking from all over. I use it on bike t.Version: 4.7.2

Great appGreat app but it would be even better if they add a direction feature 😊 please do then I could get rid of google maps app.Version: 3.4.2

Galileo mapsWonderfully useful as visitors from the USA.Version: 3.11.7

Exactly what I needed. All bad reviews are due to a lack of understanding by the users. When planning ahead (how else would you get an offline hi-res map?) this hits the spot. KML import is invaluable for route planning. Access to different map sources also helpful. It's a full screen map, it does offline, and imports KML. Perfect!.Version: 2.2.1

A must have appBest offline map app.Version: 3.3.6

Works pretty wellI’m on a cruise ship and wanted to track our route, so this is working pretty well. I wonder if you buy it for iPhone do you have to buy it again for iPad?.Version: 5.1.4

Best mapping app everWorks really well using open street maps data. The vector based mapping data allowing you to download maps for offline use or caching of live tiles data is great..Version: 3.2.10

Does just what it shouldI have had a couple of other OSM-based mapping apps, none of which were entirely satisfactory. This one is! I use it in tandem with OS maps for the UK: as this has vector maps it is easy to have a map for a huge region (like the whole UK) on the device, which is a big win..Version: 4.8.9

Very good app!Great app. Like how you can creat and import google maps for offline use using the mobile atlas creator program. Great customer service, very helpful..Version: 2.1.3

Great appSuperb offline app which is almost as good as a SatNav especially when travelling abroad and hiking. Well worth upgrading to the paid version as you can record your walks and get some fascinating stats. Amazing how many neat features have been packed into this app and free upgrades keep coming..Version: 3.3.3

A life-saver where data is limitedWe used this app for a trip to Canada where we did not want to pay international data rates. I prepped the map using the PC tool to download the maps overnight and loaded them on my phone. They served their purpose well letting us find our way around without needed wi-fi or celluar data, but still having GPS to show us where we were. If you follow the directions on the developer's site, I'd recommend downloading maps at one level of detail deeper than they suggest. I'd recommend 16 instead of 15, so you can see all the street names..Version: 2.6

Une carte fiable et ultra pratiqueOn ne peut plus s’en passer, on se retrouve à tout coup!.Version: 3.11.7

Best offline map on iOSFast, lots of options. Vector maps let you add lots of maps without a huge use of space..Version: 3.2.8

Great app. Needs CarPlay support!Love this app. Would get 6 stars if it had support for Apple CarPlay..Version: 4.4.4

Easy to use but doesn't fully support kmzI found this app incredibly easy to use and probably the best app for saving maps for offline use - and using Vector maps is great for saving my phone's memory. But I had to uninstall it because it lacks one feature - it can import kmz files but doesn't support custom track colors and custom waypoint icons that kmz files usually contain. Otherwise, great app..Version: 3.3.10

Best GPS app for iOSIf you’ve been looking for a Garmin Zumo replacement that doesn’t automatically reroute you (unlike Garmin Navi devices, and Google and Apple Maps), look no further. Add your GPX file and it’ll sit there and show you the route without constantly changing it! Been looking for this for almost a decade..Version: 4.7.4

Guru is great!Used guru in the states, Israel and Peru so far. Best way to travel. Easy and accurate..Version: 4.4.7

Used this app to track around the worldI’ve been an iPhone user for 8 years and this is my first app review. This app deserves its 5 stars that I’ve rated it. It does what it says and has worked in places so remote the I didn’t think it would! Well done and keep it up!.Version: 4.0.4

Just what I’ve been looking forGreat app. The functionality without internet or cell service was exceptional on a recent visit to Baja California. Looking forward to using it on my next adventure here in the states now..Version: 4.9.9

Great App.For a free app this is hard to beat. Luckily NZ I think is the only place where you can get free topo maps useable with the app. But it takes some getting used to to upload these maps..Version: 3.2.10

Cycle mapsOpenCycleMaps have reappeared in the app. Yay!.Version: 4.1.2

App is very good, not a scamFree version is good for displaying map and showing location. Where it shines is being able to load in maps that you have created. The developer states very plainly that the app is free and the upload feature is 1.99. More than worth the price. Its just what I have been looking for. There are other map viewers available but this is the only one I have seen that allows you to load in maps your create. And then use when you do not have internet access. You do have to download and use another program to create your own maps from online map sources. Use Mobile Map Creator. It is a java app and runs on Mac OSX, Linux and windows. Hardily recommend the app and the inline purchase..Version: 0

Superb mapping for GPX filesI use this app whilst the phone is mounted to my road bike. I can plan new and interesting routes that I wouldn't normally have a hope of remembering. Import your file and the app maps the route perfectly, even offline. The only thing I'd like is an option to make the zoom buttons etc different sizes. I have trouble pressing the small buttons with thick winter gloves on. Other than that perfect! Free/trial version works well but absolutely worth the £2.99 IAP just to support the developer..Version: 3.4.12

Great app for travel and outdoorsHave used the app while traveling Europe thanks to the free offline maps available. Also great for tracking/navigating outdoors activities when well out of mobile reception..Version: 3.4.12

Best app everWith the ability to download offline maps and the recent addition of topographic data, this is the best map app for my uses..Version: 4.8.9

Great appI have been looking for something like this for ages. I have tried other offline maps but this one has a few major points that put it a step ahead of the rest. 1.Maps can be stored in satellite view (very important for offroad use where road maps wont help) & 2.It is difficult and time consuming to save large map areas for offline use with other apps. With it's supporting mac/pc software this app makes it so easy and there are so many map types to choose from and different magnifications. Only thing I would love to see in addition to this app is a little more GPS functionality. It needs the ability to use 'drop pins' on maps and then have some navigation tools such as 'navigate to' a drop pin. These functions would make it 5 stars from me..Version: 1.9.1

Wow!Used this app with an open street map data file for a recent trip to Costa Rica. It worked GREAT, and combined with caching my next route using google maps when i had wifi access, i was able to do without an expensive GPS. Works well, and you can't beat the price....Version: 3.0.4

So Far, it does everything I need, simplyI just needed a simple offline map app. I usually know where I am headed, and so it is no bother to 'fly' to the location, zoom in and out, and have the map cached. That's the level of complexity I'm after, and this app does that quickly and easily. I tested out the GPS functionality in an offline nature preserve, and somehow the app had all the little lakes, and the hiking trails already there. Will test it out further in Mexico City next month, but so far, so good..Version: 2.4.1

Use for all navigation now the spoken directions are unintelligible gobbledygook too FASTTerrible fast directions now Unintelligible Used all the time…and searching offline but.Version: 5.3.1

Traveller’s friendMaps are comple and this app has a good balance between features and ease of use. Synch between devices is quick, search works well and I like being able to see the title of my custom places shown on the map (not just a marker). The default open street map (offline) is much better than Google or Apple maps to see paths for walking etc, and for planning and marking places to visit etc. You can also import topo and satellite view maps (online only).Version: 4.0.8

Awesome app, but search is AWFULDON'T LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO SAY THIS APP DOES NOT WORK. THERE ARE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE APP DESCRIPTION ON HOW TO GET OFFLINE MAPS. You do not download them to your device. You have to first download them to your computer using the atlas creator. Then you transfer them to your device. There are instructions, read them! This app is great as an alternative to a paper map! It is very fast when loading and moving around in offline maps. The process to get offline maps is easy but could be faster. My single complaint is the search is absolutely and utterly UNUSABLE. I'm not sure if this is because I am using google maps instead of open street maps, but I have searched for multiple addresses and I have not seen a correct result yet. This is very annoying since other map apps have great search functionality. Other than the search the app is worth 5 stars..Version: 2.1

Best offline maps app everOk I live in Cyprus the country that can’t be bothered to produce any decent maps, roads other than motorways and main roads poorly signposted and very confusing. This app has never let me down whilst cycling and I only ever use it with gps tracking never with data and it always shows me all roads and accurately where I am. Can’t recommend highly enough get the Pro version one off cost worth every penny..Version: 3.8.1

Brilliant navigation appThe app is perfect for anyone planning a route using Memory-Map or similar OS mapping software. I simply Email the GPX file to my old phone I have fixed on my motorcycle and it provides a brilliant easy to read navigation while riding with off line maps there is no need for an expensive stand alone motorcycle gps..Version: 4.1.2

Fixed iOS 11 crashesThanks.Version: 3.7.1

Get this app.Easily 4 stars .... close to 5. Ok. 5. Does everything it says it does, cheap. Offline caching is brilliant - controllable for the data you need and the available storage on your phone). Detail (including house numbers in my part of town) is great (might not exist where you live). The only thing I'd like to see is an indicator of how good the GPS signal is along track. Sometimes the signal gets low but there's no indicator or filter for this. Then when I download the tracks into google maps there are obvious bad altitudes. I understand that, but I'd like to be able to get rid of such points. But get this app! It's the best..Version: 2.6

GreatI've used google in the past and it's ability to cache maps but this feature isn't supported in a lot of countries and is limited. This on the other hand has been fantastic. Download the map for the current country and you're good to go. The search is a bit limited but with the bookmarks it's been a great help. Just wish the bookmarks were synced across devices..Version: 3.1.2

Looks promisingI like this app - it has some very handy features, eg: settings are accessed direct from the app; it's easy to go into and out of full-screen; there's a help file; the choice of layers. It also seems to have some areas that need improving: - considering that the app is actually called offline maps it is weirdly silent on how to control how much or how little you download for offline viewing. The app downloads and caches tiles as you use them, but how do you know whether you are downloading all of the tiles you'll need? - no ability to search; - the developer has a website and a Twitter page but it doesn't seem to be possible to email him (her?). EDIT: I found an email address on the Twitter page and there's a Facebook group. But all that said, at 59p it's an absolute bargain. This is definitely an app to watch: there are a number of apps using openstreetmap data - from what I've seen so far I'd put it into the top three..Version: 0

Consistently reliable and responsive to feedbackPower user of this product which has brought reliable offline mapping for me whilst on the move. The capability to import custom maps was a key differentiator for me enabling me to carry various historical maps around with me..Version: 2.2.1

Ignore the confused!!!This is a very handy app that works perfectly for free. If you want a map of a journey you are going to take simply hook up your iPhone to the internet, fire up Galileo, then trace your journey on the screen. The map tiles that are downloaded when you do this are stored on your iPhone for later use by Galileo ... OFFLINE!!! No extra purchase required if you don't desire. Please ignore the confused. Remember that what you see on the screen when you are caching your new map is exactly what you will see offline. So if at some point in your journey you think you will want to zoom in to your offline map for a closer view, then you will need to do this when creating your map. Otherwise all you will see if a magnified, blurry zoomed view of the current tile with NO extra info. So make sure to zoom the screen right in when you are near any points in your future journey that may require a detailed view..Version: 1.5

Outstanding AppAn outstanding app; robust, reliable and very versatile. I’ve been using this for many years now as it’s better than anything else. The maps are clear and have the added benefit of showing topology which makes them easy to read. You can record your own track and share it, or download a track and follow it, or use the excellent in built navigation functionality. Being able to use the maps offline is another major advantage, especially when using the app in remote locations. And also being able to sync the folders, tracks and data across devices is also really useful. The user support is quick and helpful too, but the app works so well you won’t need to call on their help :-).Version: 5.3.3

Top appBest offline map app i've ever used!!!.Version: 3.2.12

Fabulous appThis is a fabulous app - just what I was looking for... offline maps which scale up and down, so you can get an overview or home in to street level with great clarity images for both. You need to take a little time to familiarise yourself with the functionality and I would recommend working through the User Manual on the developer's web page, but it is well worth the time. I particularly like the way you can display the appropriate area of a country on screen and then search for a road name just in the part of the map that is on screen. I am also using the bookmarks to pinpoint my favourite locations - very handy. It's a bargain at £2.49 and you don't have to pay for individual maps as on some competitor apps, which are more expensive and whose maps are far less clear..Version: 3.2.6

Useful offline location trackingIf you download specific maps before you travel you will be able to track your location using your iPhone's GPS capability. It is really useful if you are travelling by car, train or coach and want to see your journey ahead. This is a well implemented App by the developer and great value if you buy the additional features..Version: 3.2.12

Exceptional - best offline map of ThailandUsed this application daily for over a month cycle touring in thailand (with regular checks against Garmin, Google and Apple IOS maps) and overall this is the best of the maps by far. Pros - real offline mode, download maps and use without any connection. Ability to import GPX tracks from others to follow. Surprising level of detail in offline vector maps (based on open street map). Cons - while this is the best I've found (hence 5 star review) a few quirks. There is no working search function while offline (so even if you see a place on the map you can't search for it) and no routing (yet). Maps only show many main roads at close level of Zoom (most roads not visible if scale is greater than 2km). And general point - apple favour there own map so if you want access from lock screen you need to use apple :( - even though the Galileo app is much better. One for Apple to do better on in my view..Version: 3.1.1

SuperVery neat app!.Version: 2.5.2

Excellent AppGuru maps has replaced my stand alone GPS unit for hiking and hunting. This is a well written and very useful app. Thanks..Version: 4.9.9

Sussex Downs Walk. Not now it’s very very windy high up on the Downs..Version: 4.5.3

Great for travelling!I can't believe how hard I had to look for an app like this. This is perfect for placing lots of pins on a map and having it available offline. Let's you manage many different sets of locations. The bookmark feature is definitely worth the price. Many different styles of maps available, nice bonus. My top request: more categories/styles for the pin icons, and preferably the option of changing the colors for any pin. Maybe add the option to define your own categories. Also, the ability to set an area to download maps within the app would be nice; the recommended desktop app for doing so is incredibly slow, just scrolling around the desired area on the actual phone app was much faster..Version: 2.1.3

So far so goodGreat app and look forward for more features and options.Version: 2.1.3

Really great appWe have just completed a road trip from Perth to Sydney with 10 other cars. We used Guru Maps to plot the course and share with all participants. Worked really well. No one got lost and we all found the correct destination each night. Also the app support was excellent when we needed help to share files around..Version: 5.1.1

GénéralExcellent application , tout est facile,on peut acheté pour 6$ des cartes .Fonctionne avec gps dual en Bluetooth sur un ipod, donc pas besoin de wi-fi..Version: 3.0.4

Excellent and useful AppThis is an incredibly useful App. In some ways it is like having the PC version of GoogleEarth on an iPad. You can set up various map formats including Google and Bing (not sure why these are not included as standard). When using Google maps you can move around the map and get an immediate longitude and latitude read out just like GoogleEarth on a PC. A small payment to the authors allows you to add bookmarks which I feel is fairly essential. If you are a Geocacher you can also import all your caches from Pocket Queries. You can also over lay tracks created in handheld GPS units like Garmin. Highly recommended!.Version: 2.5.2

Great App!Love that it is free and shows terrain for all my trad climbing routes in Yosemite Valley. I can record the gps trail map, save pins for not so well marked climber trails. Have been using this app for over 5 yrs!.Version: 4.0.8

FaultlessThis app is perfect for anyone needing offline mapping and track recording. Invaluable 4x4 or hiking tool..Version: 3.2.2

Excellent offline mapsUsed the app for backpacking for several days. Super easy to download offline maps and it provides excellent offline navigation both for driving and walking. It even provides excellent terrain information for walking directions, showing the expected elevation changes which was super helpful..Version: 4.8.3

Vast ImprovementThis has gone from one of my least used GPS Apps to one of my choice. Really nice, clean, simple layout. Lovely route logging capability, with the ability to export as GPX, KML or CSV, meaning you get get a route as a series of point data into a GIS Application or GPX into other route type Apps. Can log route and display it as a 'heat' line against either speed or height. Displays route in either metric or imperial and has route information easily displayed as a summary, total distance, time. Average speed and max min and max/min altitude. Have used GPX file into OSM to trace new roads, and keep record of walks. Able to organise tracks into collection folders. This is one of the simplest, cleanest GPS logger apps going and and I haven't mentioned yet the ability to download maps to stop outrageous data roaming charges whilst abroad. Finally it also works in background so it can be used at the same time as any other App..Version: 3.1.2

Best mapping appHad some issues with last map but all fixed now.Version: 3.3.10

Good for offline mapsVery good Application with lots of helpful information, great for offline maps. Main reason for using this is the offline maps and the vector map is good but lacks all the information you need like road numbers and town or village names. It really needs an OSM offline map although it is supposed to cache the parts of the OSM as you view them but this is very difficult if you need a whole country or continent. Overall great stuff.Version: 3.1.3

Great little app, works as advertised (if maybe not how you'd expect)As other folks have pointed out, you can cache maps for free (things you surf to in the app), and only have to pay $2 if you want to bring maps in from your desktop / laptop machine. Piece of cake -- and it works beautifully! I just have one feature request -- track logging. This would be the perfect offline GPS app if I could turn on / off logging of my movements, with export of tracks in some standard format (GPX, log, etc.). Meanwhile, it's great for travel to places your data plan doesn't (affordably) cover!.Version: 1.5

Great app for hiker cyclists and walkersThis is my favorite maps app. I have it since 2010 and it only improved since. I use this a lot when I travel and get lost or so, especially on foot. It only tracks your location while you are using it so it doesn't use too much battery and doesn't SPY like other apps. I use it to track my cycling trips and whatnot. The only thing it never had and would make this app absolutely perfect is guiding system from point A to point B. Now I need a different app as GPS when I drive. Also I'd welcome more statistics from recorded routes like calories butnt and so. Otherwise since this was my first offline maps app on iphone, it is still my favorite..Version: 3.4.2

They actually talk to their customer! This great little app has been a friend for a while, so I bought the pro version. When my iPad died and replaced it the app didn't restore. Sent a message to Galileo and they actually responded with helpful advice on how to restore the purchase! Great support, and you :o).Version: 3.2.9

Frequently updated and very refinedUse this app regularly for storing driving directions and hiking routes. It's been frequently updated with fixes and new features so paying for the in app purchases has been extremely good value for money..Version: 3.2.9

Updated review 2016-06-23I confirm that this is quite possibly the most valuable app on my iOS devices..Version: 3.5.2

TitleSorry it's annoying when App Store asks you to title your review Unlike this app a favourite of mine we walk a lot with the dogs all over the country park the car bookmark where you are and off we go always find our way back and unlike google maps works offline.Version: 3.5.8

Excellent app for using maps when not connected!I have an iPod Touch which means when I'm on the road I can't view maps unless they're stored on the ipod. The Apple map application is useless in this situation. Galileo fills this need nicely. I think many of the negative reviews are from people that didn't understand how it works. YES you can use it completely for FREE! When you are connected to the internet, you can find the area you're interested in, and scroll/zoom around. As you do so, the maps you are viewing are loaded from the internet and stored (cached) on the ipod. Later on when you're not connected, you can still use the maps that you viewed earlier. Any other maps are not yet on your ipod so you obviously can't view them. The extra app you can buy for your computer is just a convenience. Instead of having to scroll/zoom around on the iPod to collect maps, you can just draw an area on the map on the computer, select the zoom levels you want and save them to an Atlas on your computer. You can then import that to your ipod and select it as a source for the display. I had a couple of minor issues with it, and found their tech support to be excellent and extremely quick to respond! I was unable to import maps due to the fact that I had an ipod touch that was too old to use iOS4. They provided me with an easy and free workaround and got me going quickly. Great app, very useful, great tech support. What more could you want?.Version: 0

Great map offline. My family and I were trying to find a house in a remote area and our GPS on our phones couldn’t reach service where we were. Not to mention we wouldn’t be able to find our way back home. Luckily, a year ago, I decided to download this Guru map offline app and to my surprise, it worked offline like It said it would. So this is diffidently an app worth keeping. As well as a real map. Lol.Version: 4.4.1

Fantastic AppJust keeps getting better. I have used this app so many times when travelling in areas where I have no mobile data connection - offline maps can be a life-saver!.Version: 3.2.12

Superb Mapping AppI used to use another mapping app (which the developer wrecked, for some bizarre reason). After a lot of research on all of the alternative apps, it was clear that Guru Maps was by far the most capable. None of the other available apps have such a comprehensive set of features (offline maps, bookmarks, routes/tracks, synchronisation, kml/gpx import/export, folders with files structure etc.). After an initial trial of the free version, I paid for the pro version. Money very well spent..Version: 4.7.3

Great mapping and trackingGalileo works very well and does as claimed. I have tried it for a few days on an iPad 2 with 3G. Note that you need the 3G option to get true GPS and work off line. You don't need a data plan, just the option. We are about to travel to Asia and Europe and this will work very well for active mapping and route planning. Really like the ability for it to track and store our route. It looks like it will be very easy to export the route data. The maps load easily just by zooming in to the area you plan to visit. The app installed easily and is intuitive to use. My only concerns are: - If the iPad is closed for a while it stops tracking so you need to open it about every 30 minutes to keep the GPS active. - While off-line occasionally the map tiles are not pulled out of memory and displayed. I needed to zoom in and out to display all the map tiles. This could be an issue with my iPad and not Galileo. We map get the iPad Mini 3G and add Galileo to it to lighten the load. Highly recommended..Version: 2.3

Works well (with some effort)I had a problem creating an offline map. I emailed the developer, got a reply in 24 hours that solved the problem. The answer was actually on the online users manual- I had not read the manual closely enough. A reply in 24 hours is "excellent" service nowadays. I do wish the online manual was somewhat more detailed . For example, I needed a map in a certain format . Somehow I selected the wrong format, it created an unknown/weird file structure to save it. It took trial and error to figure it out (a different problem from the one above). There were other "non-intuitive" issues that took a while to problem solve. Once solved (the learning curve for new apps), works fine..Version: 2.4.3

Best mapping app I've triedHaving bought and tried over a dozen other mapping and GPS apps I have to say this one is certainly the best I have found. It is very simple and quick to use with a clean uncluttered user interface. The availability of map data for the app is really good and it works well offline. It is very easy to place pointers on the map using something like google earth on your pc, and send them to the iPad or iPhone and view them on an offline map when you are out and about. It is also easy to add extra pointers while you are out and about and sync them back to your collection on the PC. The organisation of pointers and tracks is also good as you can store and view them in folders and easily select which ones, or which folders are displayed on the map or hidden at any time. Finally the process of recording a GPS track as you travel works well. Like any GPS app, to record a full day I have had to get an extended battery for the iPhone, but with this I can simply hit record in the morning, go out and take a days worth of photos and use the track recorded on my iPhone at the end of the day to geotag all the pictures and keep a record of where I have been. I have been using the app for several months now and am still really pleased with it, so would highly recommend to anyone looking for an online mapping solution, a reliable way of accessing pointers or tracks while on the road, or for recording GPS tracks. Can't rate it highly enough!.Version: 2.4

Vector map not workingVector map is not working properly. No matter how many times I download any of the maps, they will just magically disappear from the downloaded list..Version: 3.0.2

Excellent appThis is exactly what I was looking for. Works perfectly when not connected to wifi or 3G, highly recommended for Trekkers...Version: 2.6.1

Great Map App!!Worldwide downable maps, offline functionality and quick tech support. Easy and intuitive to use. The too-fast-talking issue was an iOS problem resolved by going to Settings->Accessibility->Spoken Content and adjusting the Speaking Rate slider. So impressed that I gladly paid for the pro license..Version: 5.4.3

Offline gpsWith a little manipulation of Mobac and getting some better map images I was able to convert my old iPhone 4 into a offline GPS for northern lake with no service..Version: 2.6

NiceNice App . Robust intuitive interface. Lives up to its claims. Nice features Saying that heaps of functionality could be added.Version: 2.3

Great software, very capableI started using this app a year ago, and didn't use it much at the time. Since then, with more travel, and more exploration of features I have used it a great deal. I bought the optional features as they have been worth it. If you're considering this product, check out the website and blog for many awesome ways to get custom maps and features in the product. Only wish there was an easier way to share place marks between devices, an ability to move (spatially) a placemark, and ability to find directions while online and cache them. Having to do this in google and then import is kinda clunky..Version: 2.5.2
