PocketPacket for Negative User Reviews

No sound from speakerWill not work from speaker... Really? Every other app in the world supports this. It just uses the little speaker normally used for phones, not the one for speakerphone..Version: 1.4.1

Software TNC brokenI built a cable from a design on the Internet which includes a voltage divider and isolation transformer. When I use an audio recording app to record with this cable the audio sounds great; better than the audio from the radio's built in speaker. However, this app never decodes any packets from the APRS channel. I bought this app because it claimed it had a software TNC. It was a total waste of my money..Version: 1.4.1

Who knows?Apples have always had a problem connecting to bluetooth devices. So if i can’t connect to device it is difficult to evaluate the usefulness of the program..Version: 3.0

Needs fixingFails to run correctly on iPhone 6. Keeps freezing and crashing..Version: 2.2

Great App - If It WorkedConstantly crashes. Rotation is broken. Needs significant work to be “ready” for the App Store, even though it’s been listed for years. Not at all worth the $5..Version: 2.2

Much room for improvement. This app needs a lot of work, the position reporting is not accurate, in some APRS locations it shows houses in the pacific ocean, and other APRS locations in a straight vertical line in the Los Angeles metro of all places! It would be nice to have callsign labels on positions above it's symbol, and readily visible like every other major APRS reporting website. I have also observed the packet position update on the Pocket Packet map to and from the T2 server is very slow. I honestly feel, I paid way too much ($4.99) given that this App clearly underperformes, which brings me back to the beginning... in my opinion, this app needs alot of work..Version: 0

Crashy at bestThis app looks promising but is ultimately disappointing. If only there was some support and active updates!.Version: 2.2

App crashesA good app but unfortunately it keeps crashing on both of my IOS devices. Works first time after installing then refuses to open again after closing..Version: 2.2

PotentialI'm new to the aprs deal so I don't have too much to contribute to the technical side of things but the app is incredibly slow and often freezes to the point I can't even use it. I'm hoping this will be fixed with an update. It looks like I could have some fun with it but right now it's just not useable. Make it run and I'll give it 5 stars..Version: 2.0.1

Very intermittent operationWon't reliably start the GPS or connect to APRS-IS servers. Leaves the display on all the time so useless unless you're connected to a power source. Very disappointing..Version: 2.0.1

Needs HF APRS capabilityThis app is pretty good but what would make it great would be the ability to do multiple baud rates such as 300 so hams could hook their iPhones up to their HF rigs for APRS..Version: 2.2

Won't work for F call'sInstalled ok and runs, I am a VK2 F call and PocketPacket won't Except my call sign so it won't show my position on the aprs map. Delete the app.Version: 1.4.1

Transmits constantly despite frequency settingSeemed like a full-featured APRS client but it’s hard to get into those features when I’m constantly having to disconnect from my radio because it transmits constantly, regardless of the radio’s VOX sensitivity. Even when the audio modem is disabled it transmits. It also monopolizes the microphone, even when backgrounded. I would normally contact the developer about these issues, but they don’t provide any means to do so..Version: 3.1

Messaging needs workJust installed today. The messaging system does not send or receive Acknowledgements. Otherwise seems good so far. VA3ACZ.Version: 1.4.1

Good but some issuesGreat idea behind app and nearly well executed. However the app, when it is running in the background, after a while causes my touchscreen to become unresponsive this is very annoying! Also I would recommend an option to enable a tone to open the vox on some radios which are a bit slower (Wouxun UV6D). This would allow the whole packet to be transmitted..Version: 2.0.1

Wasted money on an app that freezes!!Want my money back. Wasted time and money for an app that doesn’t work and freezes up.Version: 2.2

Needs better documentation. For example, there is no description of, nor does the Passcode exist in any screenshot. What is it for? Does it have anything to do with my not being able to connect to servers some of the time? I also cannot change the Symbol to codes that I find on many APRS web pages. Some work, some don't with no pattern I can figure..Version: 0

Totally useless. Avoid like the plague.I have had this app for over three months now, and I have never...EVER...made a successful contact using Pocket Packet. Not one. With dozens of people all around my city on packet, this app will usually only see one or none of them via the wifi connection and never sees any of them over the VHF radio. I have set up skeds and had other packet operators (with real TNC's) on the phone while I tried to make a contact using Pocket Packet, and no one has ever seen my packets, EVER. I have emailed the developer for help with this and never gotten a response. I have taken it to the local packet guru, who runs our ARES packet check-in every week, and he couldn't make it work either. Other ham friends have purchased this, and none of them could make theirs work, either. At $5, I could have bought a gallon of gas for my car and come out way ahead. The waste of money isn't nearly as bad as the waste of my time, my friends' time, and all of the frustration that has come with this useless app. Avoid Pocket Packet at all costs!.Version: 1.4.1

ConfusedI'm new to radio, like brand new, so I'm sure I'm missing something. I have an old iPhone with the cellular data that I downloaded the app to over wifi. It seems to broadcast my gps Location even without a radio hook up. And when I take it off of wifi it says it can't connect to APRS IS. So my question is can I not use this without cellular service except to broadcast my position which I don't even need my radio to do?.Version: 2.2

CrashesI have it connected to a HT from the earphone jack to the mic jack and I can see the transmission go out, but it doesn’t show up on the map. Then the app freezes my iPhone and I have to reboot the device..Version: 2.2

Time to add HF APRS capabilitiesI want to be able to use Pocket Packet with my HF radio while out at sea on my sailboat. All that's needed is to add 300 baud FSK encoding/decoding as an option..Version: 2.2

Not what I hoped for.I have APRdroid for my phone, but wanted to get my Ipad to do the same and more. However, while I was expecting the Ipad app to be better (the Ipad is faster, larger screen, and I paid more for a premium app), its been a real let down so far. This app does not support SmartBeaconing, which the droid does. It only allows time tx, not distance either. The setup of this app is also way less intuitive. The lack of SmatrBeaconing may be enough to make me seek a droid tablet, but add to that the fact that receive through audio isn't working, and there are few tools to debug it. Whats weird is that I can record a soundfile on the ipad using the same cable that works with the droid, and then play that file through the Ipad speaker and APRSdroid can receive the packet through the droids mic, but the pad cant receive the same packet through the cable, or if i play the same file for the Ipad microphone. Seems like a poor demodulator design in this app. Sorry i spent the $ at this point. Since I am stuck, I may try tweaking my soundcard interface, but how frustrating!.Version: 1.4.1

Broken with iOS 6The iOS 6 update has broken the map display (no icons show up)..Version: 1.4.1

Good start, eagerly await more features. One issue: objects are not shown on map at correct locations. I would like to be able to specify an arbitrary APRS server by DNS addr or IP address. AGWPE support would be wonderful, so I could connect to my frankenrouter (see ve1fis.net for details) Messaging would be fantastic. Keep up the good work... APRS on iPhone/touch is a great combination. 73 de VE1FIS.Version: 0

?GUYS PLEASE FIX THE APPLICATION SO WILL NOT CRUSH ON THE NEW 4.3 OS THE BEST WAS GO GET A REFOUND IT WILL CRUSH EVERY TIME I START YOUR APP!!!!!!.Version: 1.4

Work in progressI like your app and would love to see the location errors fixed. I didn't know where all my local friends moved to...found they moved out-of- town 25-35 miles west northwest without telling anybody..Version: 0

Locks upApp loads and installs ok but will not run. Have de-installed and re-installed but still won't even run. Running ios4.2..Version: 0

MapsSince last update maps will not load just blank screen.Version: 2.1

Great version 1I agree with others there are some issues but this has Hugh potential! Hoping for version 2. I would like to be able to save maps for one to use offline completely and a audio level meter/control to adjust the level in from the radio. While your at it, why not have beacon and message mode transmit capabilities. This is still a usable tool in it's present form..Version: 0
