✓ Excellent.. But..As a trad musician I feel that the session.org has many suspect settings.. And, I have yet to get a setting from the ceol rince na hEireann volumes. Which is a shame, since that and o'neills are as close as you can get to the source...Version: 0
✓ Recognizes Thousands of Irish TunesI've used TunePal in various forms for several years; started with it back when it was running on "Palm" and "PocketPC" devices. I've never had a problem with it on my iPhone or iPad and it is currently installed on my iPhone 5s running iOS 7.1.1. I see it used often at Irish music sessions when an unfamiliar tune is played by someone present. It almost always identifies the tune in question and the sheet music reference it provides allows confirmation. Well worth the money in my opinion..Version: 2.1
✓ Amazing!If you're a trad-head and just couldn't justify the expense of getting an iPhone, now you have your killer app. No more asking your session mates what the tune was. No more uncomfortable moments when he/she can't quite remember the name either. Just hit record and you've got the name, the notes, even where you heard it. Freakin magic..Version: 0
✓ A real game changerI didnt really expect this to work very well but simply hoped that every once in a while it would be able to pick a tune name out of the air for me. Boy was I surprised! Even in a noisy bar, recording a scratchy fiddle playing a weird variation, it still worked! This is an exceptional app and well worth the $5..Version: 2.0
✓ Brilliant! But needs some further tweakingI would give this app 5+ stars for its sheer brilliance. It is a great tool for the session musician and a bargain at twice the price. But I knocked the total down to 4 stars for some bugs and annoyances: - If you swipe across a tune name in My Tunes in order to delete it, the delete button appears on the tune *above* the one you swiped. - For some tunes in the My Tunes list, the key and rhythm are not displayed, even though the abc code dilplays seemingly correct headers for these values. - If the display is in landscape mode, the countdown digits don't appear when you start a recording. - There does not appear to be any way to sort the My Tunes list. Tunes simply appear in reverse chronological order, based on when you added them. Ideally, one could sort by title, rhythm, and/or key. Drag-and-drop reordering would also be nice. I'm running TunePal under iOS 4.2.1 on a 4g iPod Touch. For what ir's worth, I previously tried an earlier version of TunePal on a 2g iPod Touch with an external "Thumbtacks" microphone, and I got poor results with tune identification. With my current setup, tune identification is excellent..Version: 1.81

It recognized most of the tunes I know quite well - for a few it didn't show the tune as the first choice, but it was always in the list of possible tunes. ✓ Works great for meI bought an Ipod touch, to do a little surfing, and to try out some apps. This is the first $ for money app I bought, and I LOVE it. I have had many revelations, as I know a lot of tunes that are "Gan Ainm" around here, and it's hard to get "sets" worked out and get my friends to play them, when they don't know the names, or what key I am in. I am lazy about figuring what key something is in because I play the fiddle, and all the notes are at my disposal all the time. Now I've started making note cards with my favorite sets, with the keys on them, and I can shuffle them like a deck incase someone wants to nag me for a set list. It feels really great when my ipod not only names a tune, but can play back to me, a tune that I wasn't sure was even real for years. It really feels like a "Pal" for a second. I have the Gen 4 Ipod and only use a wi-fi here at the house in Alaska. Works fabulously..Version: 0
✓ Great and very useful app. Needs reliable back-endThis is such a useful app for finding Irish tune names in a session (or even out of your head, if you can play a snippet of the tune on an instrument but can’t recall the title). It does have frequent back-end outages, which prevents tune name lookups and is annoying. It will save them as “Unsubmitted tags” that you can upload later for ID. But by then the moment is usually gone. Hopefully the developer can remedy this issue. Would even be worth a small annual subscription ($5-10) if more money would buy a better backend service..Version: 2.6
✓ AwesomeCan't stop raving about this app. Though it's dear compared to the price of free apps, this app comes in extremely handy. Sometimes the search for titles returns poor results cut the recording and labelling feature is really incredible. It also let's you add tunes to your collection and search discography of anyone who's recorded the tunes. A must have app for Irish trad musicians..Version: 2.0

✓ Just the jobQuite often, as a folk musician, I will find myself with a tune that I cannot identify going round in my head. Previously I would have had to wait to meet up with friends and then hummed the tune to see if anyone else knew its name. ✓ What a pal !Smart app, intuitive design. Wants to crash on uploading if "glass of beer" but other 200 or so tunes I found and uploaded without a hitch! ✓ Uncanny.This is the first app I bought as soon as I got my iPhone. I'd been using the online version of TunePal, and am super-thrilled to have it on my phone now. If you've ever found yourself with an unidentified traditional Irish tune on your hands, this handy app could save you untold aggravation. Does it work? Yes, and uncannily well. I've tested it on a few tunes and its accuracy so far has been 100%, for both well-known and more obscure tunes. You can play at any tempo, put in variations, even make a few mistakes. I don't know what's more impressive; that this app manages to extract the melody, or that it manages to find a match, even if the database version is quite different. Not only does it work for solo instruments (I tried it on flute), but I've also seen it work quite well in a noisy pub, with several musicians playing their own versions and variations at once. ✓ TunepalCare needs to be taken in recording, if in a session try to get close to a strong clean player. Some instruments work better than others, flute is good. Latest version with horizontal dots is grand. Though not guaranteed to be right every time the App is a great aid to those who don't know one of those few people who can name every tune. Worth the money for the fun alone, and you have to admire the technology. It's the closest thing to having a computer think for itself I have encountered and this makes the wrong calls endearing..Version: 0

I cannot express how incredible this app is! If you use the preferences menu correctly for the tune you are seeking, it is virtually flawless! ✓ What happen to Ipad compatability?I was running tunepal on my iiphone and pad and found it to be a good app. Implemented on an ipad, It's particularly good for finding tunes and displaying them quickly. The app works reasonably well on the iphone at sessions - particularly for tunes where a flute or whistle is dominant. I recently had to restore my ipad and was surprised to see a message that said that tunepal is no longer an ipad app. There is no way to load it on the ipad. What happened? This is a useful app but I'm confused about why it suddenly became an iphone only app..Version: 0

✓ Uncanny how good this isIf you ever play at Irish sessions, you owe it to yourself to buy this app. It links into a number of online music databases and you can bring up a tune by title as long as you have an Internet connection. That's not where the magic is, however. If you are at a session and hear something new, you can have it sample 10 seconds of it at any point during the melody and Tunepal will tell you what it is, bringing up sheet music if you so desire. (It will even keep track of which pub you heard what in by recording GPS fixes.) So how accurate is the tune identification? It is dead on almost every time, regardless of the instruments, the noise level in the pub, etc. When it's guessing the tune, it puts up a list of candidates ordered from most to least likely, along with a percentage certainty. Tunepal is actually rather modest most of the time. It may say it's only 60% sure the top choice is right, but in my experience, it's nearly always right anyway. If you are the first to show up at a session with Tunepal in hand, it will generate a lot of conversation and people will invariably try to stump it, only to be amazed at just how hard it is to fool..Version: 1.81

I love being able to pull up sheet music and You Tube videos after identifying the tunes, as well as to be able to share through facebook. ✓ Why iOS 6??I love this app it's incredibly useful as a teaching aid for my students. My excitement on seeing the update lasted all of 4 seconds when I realised that iOS 6 was needed. It's a shame, I know we need to move with the times n all that but iOS 6 is a horrible iOS and I don't want to upgrade!! ✓ Great application for sessionersThis is a fabulous application that is perfect for players wanting to identify tunes to learn and add to their repertoire. I use it every week at my local session. The experienced players often check in with me. 'what's the machine think that one is?'. I've been able to identify and then learn what is being played locally rather than just pick a few off some albums or from books and hope others know them. So I play much more often and am improving my playing faster than I was before I download Tunepal. It's the most useful application on my iPhone!.Version: 0

✓ Good appSeems to work well,recognised 2 out of 3 tunes recorded in the pub even with all the background noise,however i did have to hover over the session players with an iPhone,it didn't work unless you were close. This is a remarkable bit of kit....to be in a pub and just with one press of a button get the name,sheet music,ABC file and a link to YOU TUBE to see and hear others play the tune your enjoying is incredible . I've only got one outstanding issue with it and that it devours the iphones battery like there's no tomorrow,even when left on in the background.this is a fault that needs fixing ...look forward to the upgrades that fix this issue and other features that will make take this from good to fantastic. ✓ Fantastic appI usually record sessions on my iPhone and then use the app later to go through the tunes and get the names and notes. This app has been the sole reason Ive been able to increase my repertoire so quickly. Sometimes it takes a couple of shots to get the tune right but thats why it's best to record the tune at the session and then use the app later at home in a quiet environment.
