Dark Horse Comics for Negative User Reviews

Problems with appDarkHorse has the best comics. They ideas the drawings. I have always been a huge follower. That said, the comics remain excellent per usual. My grape is with the app's ability to display the comics. Compares to DC, Marvel, The DarkHorse app is behind the times. It needs bugs to be fixed (closes out unexpectedly, downloads stop mid-download, worse having to reset the app to continue the download) and they should upgrade their software to where reading the comics is less complicated. Right now is kinda a manual read. All the other options either dont move smoothly or they dont exist. If your looking for excellent reading and the best graphic comics of this decade, your in the write place. If your looking to read them with a high quality app your not going to be as happy. I personally love the graphic novels such that the apps lack of smoothness doesnt send me away. Others may wish to wait until proper upgrades are completed..Version: 1.4.2

CrashKeeps crashing as soon as I open the app... Please fix..Version: 2.0.3

Force crashing on iPadRunning new iOS 13.Version: 2.0.6

Olny reason I’m here is GOD OF WAR, AVATAR COMICS, AND STRANGER THINGSEVERYONE WANTS MORE STUFF.Version: 2.1.11

Poor FormHad to re-install the app to stop it from crashing after the latest update. After reinstall I had to wait for the app to link my iTunes purchases, which failed. I've never had these problems with Comixology. Wish Dark Horse would switch to them..Version: 1.5.1

Just doesn't cut itI've recently been getting back into comics through Comixology and other great digital comics options. It's such a shame that Dark Horse has decided to keep their own content in their own little box...the minor inconvenience of putting up with another app might not seem like the end of the world - in theory, it isn't - and it might even seem to some folks as if they are doing us a favor by keeping at least one of the larger publishers out of the big pot, but there is nothing consumer-friendly about this choice. They're suggesting that their content is good enough to justify enduring what turns out to be a laundry list of "minor inconveniences," all so they don't have to chuck any change at the creators of Comixology...but it really isn't. Hope I see you guys over there sometime! Buffy, Hellboy and the rest aren't SO good that I'll put up with this awful app to read them. Plenty of other floppies in the sea, and there's no reason to believe you won't always be playing catch-up with your self-inflicted rivalries, all at our expense. No thanks. You are the Origin to Comixology's Steam..Version: 1.4.2

The interface of worst practicesIt's not like I'm going to find another app to read Dark Horse Comics, so DH can enjoy its monopoly. But perhaps they could follow some normal iPad interface best practices. I'm actually not sure how to get back to the home screen. Is it one tap? Two? A slightly encouraging screen poke? It's certainly not a pinch or swipe down. Sigh. If I had any intention of ever buying a hard copy comic, I'd be able to avoid this app. But I can't. "Well played, Quarian.".Version: 1.7.4

HmmGreat app but lately when I open it it crashes about 20 seconds in.Version: 1.5

Great comics, terrible appI love the comics that I've downloaded, but the app is hopeless. Every time I open it everything is unread, nor does it organize anything into series. A poor effort unreflective of the high quality content. Update: still waiting for someone to make this an app worthy of the comics. No ability to organize the comics! Come on guys....Version: 1.4.2

No worse than other comic store appsThe app may be a little slow and/or laggy, but so is DC's (can't comment on marvel). I'm not sure what other features the other publisher's apps have that people complain are missing from this one... you can read I'm either full page or zoom views. what else do you need? my biggest complaint is more about the store than the app itself. WHY can't dark horse offer the variant cover versions of each book to download. sometime I really would like the variant cover and it makes no sense that they're not available digitally... how hard could it be to create an alternate version of the file with a different thumbnail and one page swapped out?.Version: 1.3.7

Why bother?I only tried the Dark Horse app in the hope I could get hold of older tpbs of Tomb Raider and Star Wars. No such luck, deleted it again.Version: 2.2.11

The content is good; the app is notCompare this to the current Comixology comics app, and you'll see how clearly inferior it is. Crashes quite often, page transition are quite jarring, crash recovery is poor (you never get back to where you were), storage management is non-existent (it appears), and ending an issue results in an ugly prompt to maybe buy the next one - quite unpleasant if you had no idea that it ended there. I don't think you have any other choices if you want to read Dark Horse comics on an iPad, but if you want to compare reading physical issues, paper wins, hands down..Version: 1.3.7

Comlag and crashesThere really is no other app in my collection which crashes to the same degree as this. its relentless. particularly when searching through the titles or downloading comics. the screen resets you back to the root menu each time. requiring yet another login. and the need to begin the process over and over again. dark horse distribute some of my favourite titles. but having spent over £30 on graphic novels for the app, only to realise that it crashes every five minutes, really is insulting. please fix the stability of this app! (running on the iPad 1).Version: 1.3.7

Really buggyReally buggy, shuts down a lot when trying to connect to the store or your comics. Deleted because it never worked properly..Version: 1.7.1

Okay, but nowhere near stellarOverall, this is a surprisingly decent app. Actually reading the comics is surprisingly easy on a iPhone, and is probably better on the iPad. However, the store runs into two major problems. The first is how slow the whole thing is. It takes about a full minute to load, has a bad tendency to start loading five seconds after a button press, and takes forever to load prices. The second problem is the lack of an anthology feature. You must buy your issues one-at-a-time, and cannot buy these issues as they are collected in trade paperbacks, which could save a lot of time. A price reduction on top of the existing one would be ridiculous, but at least cutting down on the time spent in the already horrendously-slow store would be nice..Version: 1.5.1

Been using this app for years and I'm done.I pretty much only get Star Wars comics from Dark Horse but now whenever I purchase one it just says pending and doesn't put it in my collection. I tried resetting data and multiple other things for about an hour (starting at 3am when I wanted to read a simple issue before bed). I ended up having to get out of bed to turn on the computer, to go to the website, to put in my information to purchase the comic digitally through there even though it told me I already purchased it in the app. Something tells me it billed twice for the same issue and I'm going to have to call and fix this tomorrow. Yes I was signed in on my phone where I was purchasing it originally to the same account I had to log into on my computer. This is beyond frustrating to me. I don't know if this is because they're making transitions to Marvel and I don't care, it shouldn't happen. Comixology is just the better app. I don't have to always sync or reset and the zoom in on panel feature is better and is actually completely focused on one panel. Just writing this making me realize all the little things this app fails on. I wish Dark Horse would get with the program and join Comixology already. And would it kill to put volumes for digital sale? Just...ugh.. Never again..Version: 1.7.4

Great content, but very unpolished.Something of a mixed bag here. The content of the comics themselves is very high and theres a great selection available. Fantasy, Horror, Sci-Fi, Superheroes; its all there. Unfortunetly the comic reader itself is something of a chore to use. Theres long delays between swipes and selections and its prone to crashing. A lot. Comixology is a much better and smoother app for reading comics on an iOS device. Until Dark Horse decided to get onboard with them, id be somewhat hesitant about making purchases on this app. Shame..Version: 1.6.1

Useless ComicsThe search option is pretty useless, the titles are really boring, the UI is just horrible this app needs a change to be a 5 star in my opnion.Version: 2.1.4

Nice startThere are a lot of things I like about this...being able to download only the parts of your purchases you want at the time is a real space saver and very nice. The interface is easy to understand and works pretty well. DH is offering pretty good discounts for some of their popular titles, so it's a great way to find stuff you've missed. The selection might be a bit lean for some people, but I'm sure that will improve over time. The organization of the collection tab could be better. I've only bought a few titles so far but I see right away having all your purchases listed on one screen is not the way to go. Separate folders by series title would be nice...or even better have the ability to make your own folders. Otherwise the collection will get very difficult to use very quickly. I've also found the app a big buggy. It crashes the most when first opening a comic. I know once I'm in the comic I'm pretty much set, but still it's annoying to have to restart it 1-3 times just to get into a title. I'm using this on an Iphone 4 if that makes any difference..Version: 1.2.2

Very poor (UPDATED - Now just "Poor"!)The app failed to download 2 comics, crashed and now won't restart. I have tried soft resetting and hard resetting the iPad, no luck. Update: I am now able to access the app, albeit with 2 crashes and numerous requests for my password. The first of the Mass Effect issues registered as purchased, and was very readable, but the others are now chargeable. Even if the app itself improves, it will not get any more stars from me until I get the comics that were meant to be free yesterday..Version: 1.2.5

Bad interfaceFar from smooth reading. Resolution starts to pixelize and blur when zoomed. Was hoping for an experience akin to staple comic book reader apps. A bit disappointed..Version: 1.5.1

Archiving doesn’t free up storage? How do you delete the files? I just checked my storage and it’s at 10gb, yet I only have 3 books installed..Version: 2.1.11

Great content poor appAs expected no complaints regarding great Dark Horse content. But the app is clunky, organization in the library is poor (it will get really messy if you buy more than a handful of comics) and the panel zoom feature isn't on par with Comixology's guided view (eg. In comixology you have the option to display the whole page after each individual panel is displayed). Only reason I use this app is because most Dark Horse titles aren't there on the comixology app. I strongly recommend the developers to have a close look at the DC/Marvel/Comixology and even Comic Zeal apps and try to improve the interface. As it is right now, using this apps not a pleasant experience..Version: 1.3.6

Hope it gets betterI downloaded this app just for Elfquest comics. It was going so far so good until I tried to purchase vol 3 of Stargazers Hunt. It made the purchase and even downloaded no problem, when I went to read it tho I had a completely different comic I do not want. I’m waiting on a response from support to see if this will be resolved and hopefully I can give better rating so if dark horse sees this review please fix my order!!!.Version: 2.1.3

This is a rough oneWhile the content is great, the app itself is pretty bad. It doesn’t have a wishlist function and I can’t seem to leave a book when I start it. There probably is a way but I can’t find it. I just wish the app would use comixology..Version: 2.1.8

Needs FixingReference the other review, you have to download from the DHD website because if you try to purchase anything from within the app it gets lost "pending". Three days now and still pending. They released a patch that was supposed to fix this but failed. Wait until the next update before getting this app or use the two stage process from the other review..Version: 1.7.9

Comixology is still better, just merge already! This app is ok. It loads really slow and half the time the links don't work properly. I like to read by zooming into each panel and this app just doesn't do that well. The zoom is always cutting chucks of the panel out, the panels are blurry, and the transition is super fast and glitchy. I don't like how you can't buy volumes or bundles except from the website. What's the point of having an app if you can't do anything with it? I also dont like that at the third or fourth to last page of the comic it pops up asking if i want to read more, buy the next comic or preview the next comic. Just wait until the end of the issue, everyone likes to read the blurbs and extras at the end. I honestly wish they would just merge with comixology already. It's a much better interface, and they organize things so much better. Here i can't tell which comic comes first and you have to read the entire description of each issue to figure it out. Such a hassle..Version: 1.5.2

Darkhorse = best comics being publishedFirst up, this is not a pre-written review or a robot. That said I cannot say enough good things about Darkhorse comics. They produce work which is just consistently good. I'm particularly fond of BPRD and Hellboy. However, the app has some usability issues. The process of actually read each comic is fine but search and purchasing comics is a little awkward..Version: 1.4.2

Not crashing anymoreFixed the crashes that killed the previous version..Version: 1.5.2

Could be a best but sadly notDark horse is my favourite publisher for comics mainly for the Mignola works but this app, though an excellent collection is too slow and unresponsive when you want it to be. However it is worth having the comics there for you to choose so I would go for it and hope it gets better in the future. PS - I hope this becomes a publisher on the comics app.Version: 1.3.7

Oh the shame!Seriously!! I have updated this today and it crashed my iPhone 4s! If I could give it zero as a rating I would! Which is a shame I love dark horse comics but I'm sticking to waiting for friends to pass me their paper versions. As to user interface on this is slow and bugging it stopped my screen from turning off the touch screen stopped responding and crashed when trying to download a comic!! Poor really Poor. Don't waste your time on it I had to reset my iPhone and iPad because of this app..Version: 1.3.7

Needs an upgrade STILL - Crash-tastic!Love the comics, love getting access on my iPad, but the app needs some serious work. It pales in comparison to the ones from Marvel, DC and IDW, which are all based on Comixology. Much smoother operation. I find it frustrating to get into this store. I also dislike that every time I open the app, all the comics are again marked "new" even if I read them long ago. Also want to be able to see in the store what's new. Generally, this needs better organization or Dark Horse needs to start using the Comixology platform. UPDATE: New revision of the app looks nice, but is still "clunky" to use. Very slow on Wifi, crashes repeatedly when connected to the store, and often tells me I'm not connected to the internet when I am. Don't have these problems with other comics apps. UPDATE: App crashes regularly. Usually after about 2 minutes' use, app crashes and you have to re-start. Still clunky. Love the comics. Hate the app. UPDATE: Have left several comments on Dark Horse's Facebook page, with no response. The app won't even stay open long enough to complete a purchase. Worthless at this point..Version: 1.5.1

Could do much betterGreat selection of comics but the app is slow, buggy, badly programmed rubbish with shocking performance. They should use the comixology app like DC, IDW and everyone else. Since the latest update in January I have been unable to even get it to download the latest comics, constantly getting a message, could not communicate with itunes. Simply the worst performing app I have ever downloaded!.Version: 1.3.6

A ShameI've tried several times to get this app working on both iPhone and iPad but it simply won't. The store just doesn't load on 3G or wifi, no matter how long i wait. It's a great shame as Dark Horse have some good titles. They really need a totally revamped app a la Comixology or just make their titles available on it. I understand they want to maximize profits by having their own app but how many potential customers have they lost due to app inefficiency? Judging from the number of poor reviews I'd say a fair few..Version: 1.3.7

Not everything available?Limited.Version: 2.1.11

Stuck at log inPerhaps it is overloaded with everyone trying at once?.Version: 1.2.0

The app KEEPS crashing while i’m downloadingAfter that i have to uninstall the app to retry downloading.Version: 2.1.14

Great Reading Experience, Horrible Buying ExperienceReading comics with this app is fine and, assuming you purchase your comics from Dark Horse Comics' website, you won't have any problems. Trying to buy a comic within the app is a completely different story though. The store is _incredibly_ slow to load and navigate and the entire app frequently locks up while data is being downloaded from the store. It's a painful experience to say the least and it's much easier to just stick to Dark Horse's website for buying comics..Version: 1.5

Needs improvementThe collection on here is good but needs to have more. Also when searching the store there should be a back button instead of having to go back to the home screen and search all over again, also when reading a comic it should auto zoom like dc and marvels apps do. As soon as I see these improvements I will invest money in there comics and give it 5 stars reason I am giving it 3 is for free comics and it's potential if they improve it.Version: 1.3.7

MehI love Dark Horse Comics, but if it weren't for the exclusive content, I wouldn't bother. The controls moving from panel to panel (or page to page) are sluggish and unresponsive at times. Every time there is an update to the app, it relists all of my purchases as new - meaning things I've already read and removed. The only way to mark them as read again is to redownload them, open them and then remove them again. Completely unnecessary extra work. Lacks the ability to rate comics and to see what other people think of them. I hope it's not because dark horse wants to hide that information. I do like how the comic cover fills up while downloading to show progress. I definitely prefer comixology as a reader..Version: 1.3.5

You guys stole my money.Throughout the years I’ve bought various Alien vs predator books. To my understanding I was going to be able to read them in my library still after you guys lost the rights. Now my library is clear and I’ve lost all my comics. Should’ve bought physical. Last time I buy a digital comic or book..Version: 2.1.14

It USED to workI got this app about four years and 1 phone ago and it worked perfectly fine until one of the recent patches that pretty much destroyed any semblance of functionality. I used to be able to access my library of books quickly and easily and I would read for lengthy periods of time in a given sitting. Now, I’m lucky if the app even opens on the third try and blessed if I can get into my library and actually get into one of my books. Not sure how this is supposed to be the optimal way to read comics but it certainly feels like a waste of data to have a non-functioning app on my phone. That said, I am holding out hope that a future patch implements the proper changes needed to address this very severe, crippling problem. I have faith given that it was once a great app to read and purchase comics..Version: 2.0.6

Re-reviewAnother review after a year, I took the time to reinstall this app and poke around. It seems Dark Horse has the power to remove negative reviews because my old one is gone. Setting that aside, the app hasn't grown at all in a year. It is still laggy, unlike Comix. They are still trying to sell old comics as new comics. They still don't have most of there comics on the site. Hardly any graphic novels are up. A small fraction of the Star Wars universe is on the store, none of the good stuff. Your locker were you store you comics is laggy as well, even after a fresh install on a ipad3 , they are pushing down garbage that I didn't want or asked for. Dark horse looks like they are pay lip service to the customers still and not moving forward with innovation and listening to the paying customers..Version: 1.4.0

It just doesn't workI honestly have no idea why this is even on the app store. My problem with this app isn't freezing or crashing. The app simply won't display comics for me. I search for a series, or click on one of the featured comics, and nothing shows up. The app keeps telling me that there is nothing to display, and I might want to check my Internet connection. This has been going on since I acquired this app a couple of months ago, and have updated it, deleted it, and re-downloaded it numerous times with zero success. I'm baffled by the negligence Dark Horse is showing, by even having this app exist. Of you're looking for comics download one of the many other apps available on the app store. If you're looking for Dark Horse comics, you're going to have to visit your local comic shop..Version: 1.3.7

Should get betterFirst up, once it's up and running, the app works fine. I was totally delighted to find The Adventures of Luther Arkwright in the store and reading is great on my 3rd gen iPad. But the store is slow, the settings and search aren't particularly well implemented and it feels clunky. I'm sure these will be ironed out (providing the app is proving successful!) - and I'm looking forward to discovering new titles through it. Basically, when it feels as easy to use as iBooks or the Kindle store, I'll be happy..Version: 1.3.7

CrashesOk,I got it, downloaded a few comic book, read for about an hour. I turned the app off and read some messages and switched back to it,but then it wouldn't even start...or jus stuck at loading screen with liara shooting shiny biotic energy thingy, she is sexy and all but I want to see more!.Version: 1.2.6

No BuffyDownloaded to hopefully read the Buffy comics but they're not here. Uninstalled..Version: 2.1.4

Quality of Life IssuesReally simple things are just straight up missing. You can’t sort titles, they’re in a fix order of what looks like either download or purchase order. Accidentally skip an issue in a series? Find issue #7 after issue #9! Also, the app has a terrible time unless it’s constantly connected to the internet. Not on Wi-Fi/3G? You get internal errors (SKErrorDomain error 0) percolated to an alert message. You’ll also have missing issue thumbnails, except on the indeterminate occasions where it caches them. But not all of them..Version: 1.7.4

One Major FlawThe content is excellent and the service is wonderful, but I want to be able to delete comics from my roster. I've purchased some real duds and I hate that they are always visible in my library. Please fix this Darkhorse..Version: 1.7.8

Crashes. EVERY TIME.App crashes seconds after opening, every time. Either get your act together or license your books to Comixology. You've got great creators putting out quality books, they deserve better than this joke of an app..Version: 1.5.1

Kind of bad because you can’t read the whole bookSo you can’t read like for free so yeah I don’t like this because it cost so much and it doesn’t read to you so that a reason and my second reason is because it charges for thing s that are in Netflix only cost 11 dollar’s for so much things like that is le.Version: 2.1.14

Sometimes frustratingI got the star wars bundle a while back and I love it. The problem is the app. I'm reading through these large graphic novels that take me a while to read. You know how, on kindle, when you open the app it brings you to where you left off so you can just continue reading? No can do here. The app defaults to bringing you your library in the cloud. you have to click " device" then navigate to star wars, then the subcategory of star wars, and finally to the particular book you're reading, if you can remember it. Then it at least remember what page you're on, thank goodness. It takes a few seconds, but it's enough of a hassle that I don't read as much as I'd like to. Further, the panel view doesn't work very well. Sometimes it works great, and then sometimes there is a progress bar at the bottom that won't go away. Until it does for no apparent reason. It obscures part of the panel. Baffling..Version: 1.7.12

Extend the offer...All I wanted to do was download the Mass Effect comics while they were free. However thanks to the horribly poor planning on the part of Dark Horse, the store has been hammered so hard nothing is accessible and it looks like I'll miss out. This is not a review of the App itself, more a comment on the state of the online store. If I'm able to get my comics before the offer runs out, I'll actually give the app a proper go and update my score..Version: 1.2.5

Dark Horse AppI like this app, but the organisation of the comics needs improving. If you have a number it becomes difficult to keep track of where you are up to, especially if you follow several series. So a way of bookmarking which edition you are at in a series would be welcome, as well as folders for each series, would be a welcome improvement. I havent experienced any crashes that other posters mention, but the tap controls can be irregular and irritating sometimes..Version: 1.3.5

Missing the boatThere's something quite vague about the whole app experience here. I'd like to post what I've read on Facebook but can't and I don't have a twitter account nor do I want one. I'd also like to see a series discount too. I also wish the navigation was a little more intuitive. All these things however are forgivable thanks to the fantastic catalogue of comics on offer. I think Dark Horse are missing the boat here though on the chance to advertise for free to millions of comic book fans..Version: 1.3.7

Terrible UIThe search feature is useless, and browsing is all but impossible. I would like a ‘recommended for you’ list and a way to search according to popularity or genre.Version: 2.1.3

I have an IPad1This can be frustratingly slow at times and crashes occasionally. The experience is great however, once your reading one of the excellent comics. The release schedule is screwy, and a second series will often be available before the end of the first one. Biggest gripe with the upgrade is that all my read comics are now listed as unread. There doesn't appear a way to manage this. The syncing between my iPad and iPhone isn't as sophisticated as kindles either. Still I recommend..Version: 1.3.7

One Recommended ChangeI love that I can read the Berserk manga on here but the major issue is the app’s functionality. If I go into the settings page there is no way to get out of it I have to delete the app and redownload it each time..Version: 2.2.11

Sell me an app please, not a buggy HTML viewer.Note: This app is still buggy and rarely works, even after the past two updates. I'm using version 1.5.1 on two different devices, including a 64 GB iPhone 5. This app crashes on launch, has a horribly chuggy interface, and is nothing more than a badly skinned browser interface with memory issues. I expect more for an app that sells me content. If I buy a book off of you I expect to be able to READ that book and not just on a lucky day..Version: 1.5.1

Where’s Conan 🤷🏾‍♂️Good titles on here but I really hoped to get the Conan titles which are nowhere to be found. Gutted and only 2 stars😭.Version: 2.1.11

Where’d the Dynamite Titles Go?All the Dynamite titles seem to have vanished from the app..Version: 2.1.5

A suggestionI like that the app provides comics of all varieties but I hate the fact that you have to buy all these comics. Why not do a monthly subscription like the Marvel app or DC app for comics..Version: 2.1.5

CrashesUseless app crashes far more than it works deleted within 24 hours.Version: 1.3.0

Enjoyed this app until they ripped out the Star Wars catalogWas a good app until the Star Wars catalog was removed then the app removed all 62 Star Wars titles I bought off my iPad and then forced to archive me to redownload and waste my bandwidth. I can now read the Star Wars titles again but they aren't categorized by series anymore and have no thumbnails so I haven't got a hot clue of which comic I'm opening. Thanks for nothing Dark Horse!.Version: 1.7.12

Burn it all and start again...IOS 7 is the perfect opportunity to completely rebuild this confusing, sluggish, and often unusable app. I've actually just stopped buying Dark Horse comics because using this app is so exhausting. Time for a new direction!.Version: 1.5.3

You think about reading comics. So I bought the app hoping to keep up with the few comics I've been reading. My local options are either stupid expensive, or just too far to drive reasonably to spend $2.99. The App is nice, has an attractive layout. The comics display beautifully on the retina display. However it hangs up far too often. I've not had it crash, but it might as well. Touching any of the "featured' comic series returns a "No Comics Found" everytime. Searching for a series in the store is no better. It will usually only return results that you already have in your collection. Hopefully they will get these problems sorted quickly. iPhone4 Ver 5.0.1, Verizon Network (3G).Version: 1.3.6

Think about it before u spend moneyDon't no if I'll keep it after reading the other reviews.so to the people who R thinking of getting this app think about before u wast ur money :) Though it is pretty cool so it's up to u.Version: 1.3.6

Regression.A once excellent app has now been utterly ruined. The user interface was updated, and is now as ugly as sin. However, more damning is the fact that is crashes approx every 15-25 seconds. Any attempt to navigate from your collection to the store is a tedious and frustrating adventure. Alas, for people like me with a sizeable purchased digital collection, this is almost criminal. Dark Horse show no signs of attempting to improve or fix this, or seemingly give a stuff about those who have invested. In short, avoid. Look elsewhere..Version: 1.5.1

Needs workOk Dark horse are my fave comic label... Love their stuff, but whilst the act of reading comics works great, the library and browsing is a bit broken. Frustrated with it anyway but recent update seems to have trashed all my paid-for content, with no obvious way of recovering. I'm sure that "archiving and re-downloading" makes perfect sense to someone that works on the app or at DH but not to me. Don't expect to have to trouble- shoot an app... The medium is supposed to transcend manuals and customer support..Version: 1.2.1

Poorly maintained appThere are a number of problems with this app. It's slow. It repeatedly gives me a message that it can no longer connect to the iTunes store. So the Dark Horse store never updates. To get new DH comics I have to buy them from the DH digital website then download to this app. But that is now becoming buggy. Previous comics that I've purchased that way now disappear. I can re-download them if I want but it's a pain. I have uninstalled and re-downloaded this app to see if that fixed things. It didn't help. This app desperately needs an update. Compared to Comixology this app feels amateurish. Dark Horse has great comics and and their digital store has an amazing selection. I'd love to get them thru my iPad without all the hassle..Version: 1.3.6

Crash, crash, freeze!Took me forever to create an account (had to end up doing it through there web site) and once I did log in I couldn't download any comics. This app constantly crashes and freezes. After 2 days I still haven't read a single comic (including the instruction manual). I was hoping to read the free Mass Effect comics, but now the promotion is over. Very unhappy..Version: 1.2.5

I want to love this app, but...It's a very frustrating experience overall. The store takes FOREVER to refresh, so you see banners for new content that lead nowhere when you click on them. Archiving downloaded titles is an exercise in patience because the buttons (or their hit targets) are too small, so you frequently end up opening a book that you were trying to archive. Visual feedback on what's going on in the app - i.e., activity spinners when there is network activity - are hit or miss. Scrolling through titles is choppy and frequently stalls completely for several seconds. Random crashes still occur too frequently. It's great that Dark Horse has embraced digital and gone day-and-date (at a reasonable price) with its books, but this app is way, way behind the competition in both features and functionality. It needs serious attention and soon, or Dark Horse would be better off following IDW's example and moving their digital endeavors to the Comixology platform..Version: 1.3.6

Non competitive pricing, esp. in Australia!I remember buying Aliens back in the 90's, you'd get about four story arcs (sold now as standard comics) along with a few dozen pages of text based narratives, today I wasted twice that price on what amounted to less than half an Aliens comic. I wanted to relive those times, but at eight times the price and for only 1/10th the comic? No. Just no. Seriously lame, buyers remorse is an understatement..Version: 1.7.4

WorstDoes not work.Version: 1.7.0

I just want to read the comics I've bought!Having downloaded and signed into this app, I've tried tapping on the comic name - no joy. The header says I can access my comics from my bookshelf - there is nothing labelled a bookshelf anywhere in sight. I go to the FAQ which basically says 'we have a new bookshelf feature! Tap the middle of the screen to find buttons' which does nothing. Look, can you at least make an FAQ which is a true Idiot's Guide to this app because right I feel like I've spent money on nothing..Version: 2.0.4

Horrible!I just got an iPad with the intention to go digital. Well, that'll be tough considering how bad this app works. For one, it is SLOW! Touch a button and... wait. Then I downloaded a free comic and when I go to view it in my bookshelf, it's gone! What if that happens to something you actually paid money for? So I try to find it again.... An the app crashes! Obviously this app does not want people to actually use it. Other suggestions would be having a "want list" folder. Just because I may not be buying something at his moment doesn't mean I won't be buying later. Why not allow the user to add books into a folder they can go straight to later on a buy from that list? Having to search for everything from the start of each app use is ridiculous. If they do have a function like this, I haven't seen it..Version: 1.4.2

Great access to amazing content but actual functionality is lackingAs an avid comic fan there is nothing better than being able to buy whatever you feel like reading the moment the fancy strikes you. This app certainly serves this purpose. The access to the Dark Horse catalogue is some of the best out there. That being said the app itself feels a little sparse and benefits mostly from the content it presents and not from its own inherent design. There are many ways this app could be improved upon. Subscriptions perhaps? This is an age-old method of consuming one's favorite titles and it would clearly benefit from taking advantage of push notifications etc. Not to mention metadata? It's all in there so why not let your readers browse titles by cross referencing keywords? It's not on me as a user to supply you with functionality ideas but it seems now that you've achieved the most basic functionality you would expand upon the app and improve not only your sales but the users enjoyment of your content in an intuitive browsing environment..Version: 1.4.2

Pretty goodOnline buying is easy with iPad, archive system works well. When connecting to store, the app can crash, but once downloaded, it works fine..Version: 1.3.5

S'alrightA nudge non-intuitive. I had to buy comics from a PC in order to get what I wanted on iPad..Version: 1.3.5

Why cant I view a comic with 2 pages on the screen?I have a widescreen monitor, want to read comics that will be best experienced 2 panels at a time, yet a dedicated comic app isnt able to do this? Totally unacceptable..Version: 2.2.14

DH should team up with comixologyThis really is a subpar app. Very clunky. Can't understand why they don't team up with Comixology like every other publisher..Version: 1.5.3

Dark Horse Comics App - OK at a pinchWell, it works most of the time. I use it as the only source of online comics for Star Wars and Mass Effect, and if there was another more polished app I'd use that instead. It is comparatively slow and crashes occasionally, but mostly works, and is a _lot_ better than it was a year ago. Good range & choice in the store, but any app can have options - this one's presentation just isn't good enough compared to ComiXology's..Version: 1.3.7

Good on iPad. Problem on new iPhone7.Hi, Good on iPad. Problem on new iPhone7.The downloads did not work..Version: 1.7.12

Terrible once againI thought this app had turned a corner after being unreliable for so, so long but after this new update on November 2013, we are back to the same old problems. I tried browsing in their store but it just shuts off, a past problem that was irritating before but now is just annoying especially after everything seemed to be corrected. I don't know what Dark Horse's problem is but if this is how they wish to continue in the digital age, I feel really bad for the creators who have their work published there. Get your act together or just stop being so stubborn and go to Comixology..Version: 1.6.0

CrashingFix it!.Version: 2.1.5

Great contentBut sadly the ease of use is not as good as other comics..Version: 1.7.12

Can’t see the bottom edge of most frames on my iPadThe framing is wrong on my iPad. The bottom edge of most panels is hidden. Pushing the panel up on the touchsceen doesn’t help.Version: 2.1.8

Dark Horse fan. . . DisappointedConsidering the attention and care to the line-up of comics available from Dark Horse, I am disappointed with the seeming lack of attention and care paid to there digital storefront. I've waited around through revisions to see if their app would improve. The 1.3.0 claims stability improvements, but as with previous versions I cannot log in to the store to make purchases. The apps just hangs there attempting to log in. This thing doesn't even seem to have a timeout function that will give up and let you know that it can't carry out the task of logging you in to the store. So since I can't log in, I can't even 'purchase' free books to give the reader a spin. This app seems to have borrowed heavily or been made by the Comixology people, as their app is useless as well. Both apps - as with other comic book storefront apps - just seem to be perpetually downloading something in the background. The lead/project manager for this app should consider getting this under control. There has to be a way to load your storefront without seemingly downloading it's entire contents. I hope to see improvements, but like other digital comic storefronts w/built-in readers, this one disappoints..Version: 1.3.0

Initial problemsThis app seemed to be particularly slow, and it finally locked up my iPad fairly solidly, to the point when I had to switch the device off and on again before I could even close down the app. I suspect memory leak problems (disclaimer: I develop apps as part of my day job). I'm sure Dark Horse will resolve these initial problems in their next release though. Other than that, the interface is similar to other comic apps such as Xcomics and the Marvel app (which are basically the same app, re-skinned) and therefore easy enough to use. The catalogue is a bit scarce at the moment, but it is of course early days. I'm pleased Dark Horse have finally taken the plunge - the iPad is my primary way of comic-reading these days, so more to choose from is always welcome..Version: 1.2.1

Needs to be fixedThis could be a really groovy app however it won't let me download any more comic, I downloaded the free ones and buffy issue 16 but that's it, it won't let me see any more store comics. Only the ones I bought.Version: 1.3.6

Not bad butLack of selection really hampers this reader. It functions almost exactly like comixology's app which is most definitely a good thing but like the above they they also do not offer collections. I.E. If you wanted to buy all the Mass Effect comics you'd need to individually buy each comic at $2.45. This can end up getting quite costly. I love dark horse comics in general, ESP the star wars editions. I was very disappointed to see NO SW comics in their store despite there being a picture of one in the app page (just look up). Still it defiantly has potential- if they add more content and a more intelligent pricing system i would have no issue rating it 5 stars..Version: 1.2.0

Keeps crashingSince last update try to load comics crash..Version: 1.5.3

Good, not greatThe app works well enough I suppose (besides the occasional crash on start up), but it is awfully slow to load comics and the panel transition can often be a little off in comparison to better comic reader apps, such as Comixology's app. As it is the only way to have the Dark Horse comics on one's iPhone it is certainly worth downloading, but I would greatly prefer it of Dark Horse just transitioned over to Comixology and their app..Version: 1.3.5

Graphic books need better optionsComic reading ok - not as smooth as an interface as I'd like. Glad the store can be used in app now. Would really like to buy graphic books on this app but the print is way too small and zoom centers badly and zooms out when you try to scroll down/up.Version: 1.5.1

Terrible.App is buggy, but great when it works. Affordable comics and support for the retina display. Layout could use some work (menu items are not very discoverable, they look like search results), and trying to get the toolbar back once you're in a comic is frustrating (no, I want the menu, not the next page!)..Version: 1.4.2

At least it's stopped crashingDark Horse's comics are excellent, and this app makes them handy own the go – and sets reasonable prices. That they now have Dynamite's titles as well is a very welcome enhancement. And the current version is much less crashy. But it's painfully slow (did Facebook pay them to make theirs look good by comparison?) and under-featured. Come on, it's an app! Why can't I get notifications when a new issue of one of my favourites comes in? For that matter, why can't the 'new' badge mean actually new since my last visit? The material is also frustratingly gappy – will I ever get to read that missing six months of Jennifer Blood? – and indifferently curated (Battlefields, or Garth Ennis' Battlefields? Make your minds up)..Version: 1.5.2

Great Comics, Mediocre AppThe comics are great. Sin City (no longer available in store??), 300 etc... But the app is lackluster, especially when compared to the awesome Comixology app. It finally has support for iPhone 5 screen but latest update brings random crashes, text on bookshelf screen misaligned, and slow chugging performance. Also, one of my biggest gripes is how small the words are, even in Panel Zoom Mode. Having to pinch to zoom just to read dialogue bubbles is annoying and unnecessary. Panel zoom mode while in landscape should be sufficient to read everything without zooming or eye strain. In Comixology, viewing panels in landscape mode is excellent. Text is rendered beautifully and no need to pinch to zoom. If these issues are fixed this app could be great. Just beware. Especially since these comics mainly cost 15 bucks. Steep, compared to the $.99 - $1.99 price range of Comixology..Version: 1.4.1

Dark HorseSome years ago the only way to access purchases was by phoning D.H. & getting them manually added- but then it got better w/ app updates. Now with v2.0 we're back to square one! I used to never sign out, which is a bad policy nowdays; after logging off I found I hadn't kept a record of my PW. When I initiate the "new PW" link, I get no further as I keep getting the page that tells me there's "a problem communicating w/ the server" and to "try again in a few minutes". I don't believe it will ever work. I will have to go the same old route: phone the company, describe the problem, and eventually get an email that will help walk me thru getting a new PW so I can access my library of books. It seems to me my problem is a very common one which should have cropped up very early during beta (or alpha!)-testing of this app's major new 2.0 update. Companies should not use their customers as unpaid bug reporters: 1 Star (= 0%) for this update!.Version: 2.0.4

It does crash a lotThe available content is superb and if you take advantage of special offers quite reasonably priced. This might even be the saving of the comic art form, but gosh it really does crash a lot! Either a problem with the coding or too ambitious a specification. The website is far more stable than this App, and let's you buy a bundle of comics, cheaper than buying one by one thru the App. If you buy on the website then the comics can still be downloaded and read on your iPad..Version: 1.2.6

MediocreIt lets you read and download comics as,advertised but lacks some of the finesse of other readers. It gets quite annoying that you have to wait til a comic has finished downloading until you can read the first page. Not many free comics available (how about the MySpace stuff, at least?) It'd be great to have a way to track chronology for comics from the same universe so I know what to read first. Doesn't look great when zoomed in..Version: 1.3.7

Great comics but crashes all the time on iPhone 4 and "newly added" in the store never worksGreat comics but crashes all the time on iPhone 4 and "newly added" in the store never works.Version: 1.3.7

Good, but slow. All in all a good app to read comics on, nice quality to them as well, however this app can be seriously slow at times. The integrated store can sometimes be slow too and updates to new releases often taking a day or two longer to appear than on their website. Despite this it is still a bloomin' good app and I use it regularly without any major problems. With each update it seems to be getting more stable and works well on both my iPad 3 and iPad mini..Version: 1.4.2

Good but needs subscription and 2 page view when landscape….Version: 2.2.15
