Birds of Britain Pocket Guide for Negative User Reviews
✓ Not respondingI’ve had the app for a few years now and it’s been great, but I’ve just bought a new phone and I have tried backing it up from iCloud with poor results. When I try to open the app it just reverts back to the app screen on the phone, if I switch off iCloud in the app settings on my iPhone then I can use it but all my sittings have gone. Didn’t worry much as I thought I could record any new sittings on the phone then transfer them to my iPad, tried this yesterday and the iPad has the same problem. Not impressed but can’t tell if it’s the app or iCloud.Version: 2.1.4
✓ Too many missing birdsLots of British birds missing on this app - informed the writer - Hilary Lind who confirmed birds are deliberately left out so people will put Purchase their Birds of Britain Pro App for £12 - don’t waste your money with this. They claim to be helpful and listen to recommendations but they’re not. Use Merlin instead - the writers are always welcome there to update their lists at no extra cost - or excuse.Version: 2.3.0
✓ Birds of BritainThe app appears to be comprehensive in detail, with good pictures and excellent sound recordings. Next two weeks will show how it works. I'll update the review again soon..Version: 2.1.2
✓ Okay but....Firstly, there are some great things about this app that others don't offer such as the ability to record sitings and compare different characteristics to confirm a species. However, I would not recommend this app to a serious twitcher. For a start there are only two or three photographs for each species and little to help with identifying juveniles or distinguishing features from similar species. Secondly, and probably a fundamental problem, is that many species are missing. For example, there are no wood larks, Cirl buntings or bar tailed godwits to name three. There are much better apps out there in my opinion if you want a really good bird identification app..Version: 2.1.4
✓ Britain? As with so many apps (and books) this does not cover Northern Ireland. This is so annoying as NI is part of Britain. Wanted to look up wildfowl at Castle Espie WWT but wasn’t on the map. I can understand that NI may be included in Ireland reference material but the app seller or developer should make this clear before purchase. This is nothing to do with politics, it is just annoying and a waste of money..Version: 2.2.0
✓ Some birds not listedWhen I first purchased this app I thought it was fantastic however, lately when I’ve been out and tried to ID a bird, the bird has not been listed in the app, i.e., Great Egret and Twite which are both reasonably well known in the UK which is very disappointing so now I’m thinking of purchasing an alternative app so I don’t miss out on a positive ID. Sometimes a quick ID is needed while the bird is in front of you. Waiting until getting and home to Google normally means the characteristics of the bird have been lost from memory..Version: 2.3.0
