What happened to this website?News is old and repetitive. I used to go to this website to get all my local news and happenings. I no longer received the physical newspaper, so I looked forward to getting all the same info from the website. Lately it has no content or it is repetitive and of no interest. Where is the news? What happened?.Version: 3.7.15

So Tired of being asked to sign inI have been a subscriber for my entire life and I am 74 years old! Sometimes I get into the EReplica no problem. Sometimes I can read MLive articles no problem. Other times, it asks for uid and password. It references both Mlive signin and Jackson Citizen Patriot sign in at different times in the log in process. They are two different ids and passwords for me. I go look it up and sometimes one of them works and other times it doesn’t. One of them uses my thumbprint on my ipad and lets me in and then a couple seconds later pops up again with the darn login message. Makes me want to just give up and cancel the whole thing..Version: 4.0.12

👎👎👎👎👍🏻Don’t bother with this app if you’re not into sports; that’s the dominant theme of the news items on the main page. 👎 And, several updates ago Detroit was removed as a news “locale” with no explanation. 🤔 But, I am very impressed with meteorologist Mark Torregrossa and his weather reports and videos! 👍🏻 He explains everything in an easy-to-understand way, and his forecasts are spot-on. Keep up the great work, Mark!.Version: 3.7.15

Sports...No matter what category I attempt to look at, all the mlive app has is predominately sports. No actual news or anything. You would think between Detroit, flint and Saginaw, there would be more news. But no. Just whatever high school kid was able to throw a ball into a basket. Which I don’t mind, kids deserve all the recognition they can get, but it belongs in the sports section. Not in the crime section. Give it time and there will be football scores with the obituaries. 🙄.Version: 3.7.12

Muskegon newsWhen I search for news in my local market I still get stories from other markets. Especially when I search local sports. I do not want content from outside my area. Frustrating.Version: 3.7.21

Horrible updateThe latest update is horrible. Black background with white text is obnoxious and hard to read. Won’t stay set on my local region any longer and keeps defaulting to state news. The newsfeed is hard to locate stories with the headlines being small and buried under 1 or 2 highlighted stories..Version: 4.0

Lack of effortThe electronic version of the old newspapers is terrible. It is filled with out of date stories. Mix labeled items. Lack of any real reporting....pages of proms, old stories run for sometimes weeks at a time. Pop up ad clips. Here is a suggestion ...hire a person to check stories and perhaps delete articles after one day. There is a real lack of any news reporting. Sometimes I think the paper has reverted to a extensive rap sheet for criminals. There is becoming less and less reason to have mlive..Version: 3.7.15

Poorly written app or horrible back endThis is either a poorly written app, or their back end servers are woefully inadequate. This app hogs resources when run and periodically causes the iphone to lock up for 5-10 seconds when loading stories or comments. I can’t put 0 stars, but I would if I could..Version: 3.9.4

Comment sectionI was wondering why many of my comments where deleted. I posted nothing vulgar or verbally abusive. I noticed that my comments (about politics) previous comments posted by others where disrespectful, yet mine where deleted. It’s sounds to me this is violation of free speech. I can prove it. All I want to know is why ??? I would expect a response, since I emailed you and messaged you on Facebook, and no response. Thank you.Version: 3.7.15

Dark mode problemsI can’t turn off dark mode and I can’t read the words with dark mode on because I have vision issues. If I could turn the dark mode off that would be great. This is really frustrating because I read your paper every morning but if dark mode is going to stay on like this I can’t do it anymore..Version: 4.1.8

Notifications need workNo way to turn off notifications about high school football. During the season it takes up an inordinate proportion of the app’s notifications. I could not care less about high school sports..Version: 4.1.5

Nonsensical OrganizationStory grouping and organization doesn’t make much sense. Interspersion of “Dear Abby” type columns with news articles is dumb. Regional story selection doesn’t work well, still showing stories from around the state. And making ads appear the same as stories is incredibly annoying..Version: 4.3.5

Horrible updateYou guys have got to fix this last update. Very buggy. Noticeable delays when clicking on something. Comments seem to get attached to wrong stories. And for goodness sakes, there MUST be a way to allow people to opt out of (filter) topics. There are days where EVERY single story on the "front page" is about sports. It's way too much..Version: 3.7.25

App updateSince the last update the app will not open. This happened a few years ago & it took another update to resolve. Anxiously awaiting the next update to hopefully rectify this issue..Version: 3.7.25

Location of storiesWould be better if the location of a story was better defined. For example sometimes a township is named, and not the county the township is in. Some counties have townships with similar or identical names so only by reading article and recognizing, or not, nearby locations like roads, can I see if an article was near me. The articles take a while to load when my phone isn’t connected to WiFi. Comments cannot be seen when using Internet Explorer..Version: 3.7.15

FreezesIf I access a story from a notification, read the story, and then exit the story without leaving the app, the entire app freezes. This is the number 1 issue I’ve had since downloading the app. Sometimes when I open an article, it opens zoomed in and reverts to the zoomed in state when I attempt to zoom out to view the whole article without having to scroll side to side. I’ve had to close the app and reopen it to resolve, which is also a problem because in some cases I haven’t been able to find the article once I do so. While some of the other issues I’ve had have been fixed, this app has always been buggy and inconsistent..Version: 3.9.4

Drained battery on idleFound out it was draining my iphone battery when not in use, and not just a little bit! Originally from MI and used for getting news but had to delete because of the drain. Wont go back unless they get it fixed..Version: 3.9.4

Buggiest app on my phoneThis is a sad app. I comment on a story, and find that it adds the comment to a completely different story! In some cases one that I haven’t even looked at. It’s not just me, as I’ve seen misplaced comments by other users. That and the city selection doesn’t work. It always provides statewide results..Version: 3.7.21

Boggy loading, mostly sportsI never write app reviews but this app gone so far downhill I am considering deleting it. This used to be a Michigan news app, now regardless of category it is predominantly sports - please put sports into it’s own category!!! Loading & updating the story listing takes forever even on my high-speed wifi due to waiting for ads to load, complete with irritating video clips that auto-play even though I have turned this off in my settings. WTH?!?!?.Version: 3.7.13

Not a clean interfaceGiven the development of Mlive as a company, this app lacks in design. The interface is old and cluttered with adds scattered about making reading articles difficult. Many other news apps are able to utilize advertising without doing so..Version: 3.7.15

HistoryYour news is dated. Since you are on line, stories could be update regularly during the day. For reasons I don’t understand, you ignore certain events, that tv news covers. Your sports coverage is the most dated. Do you need sports writers, stringers, other sources?.Version: 3.7.15

Nope, just nopeUnless you enjoy reading adds designed to look like news, pass on this app. I understand the need for advertisers but this app just bombards you with addvernews. Makes the real news article look like an add. Forget this one or you will find yourself immersed in a news article on how to prevent toenail fungus by shopping at Walmart..Version: 4.2.35

Crappy. Crappy crappyTried to update the app. Now all I get is a blank white screen. No content. It was bad enough we have to suffer through all of the clunky slow to load "slide shows". Now I'm getting nothing. Maybe that is for the best. Dec 2020. Just crashes on my iPad. Cannot even open the app crashes every time.Version: 4.0

You askedLack of priority and organization. Comic con follows murder follows high school prom follows baseball. Far too heavy an emphasis on popular stories and sports; news topics are secondary or given lesser emphasis. Comes off as cheap and simple-minded. Restaurant reviews/topics are awful...or worse. Ryan Stanton’s Ann Arbor articles are well done and in contrast to the rest of the low common denominator emphasis of this poor excuse for a news outlet..Version: 3.7.15

I give up - not usefulSearching for an article is near worthless. You can get a pop up for an article that requires a premium subscription. You can be reading an article and have to set it down. When you come back and a search for the article it can’t be located.Version: 3.9.3

PredictableLately I’m seeing the same articles for two or three DAYS. Is there anyone working at MLive these days? Weekdays there’s a good mix of regional news from a variety of regions. Weekends are always way to heavy on sports. Mark Torregrossa’s columns are always interesting, even though the photos and illustrations are not set within the text..Version: 3.7.25

No Longer a Viable News SourceI used to utilize Mlive for local news almost every day. Over the last few months almost all of the news articles of interest are now behind a paywall and I rarely open the app. Apparently ad revenue isn’t enough. What’s interesting though is how almost none of the sports articles are behind the paywall (which also aren’t news but are always on the news page), but almost all of the COVID articles are now behind a paywall. It’s almost like they’re trying to cash in on the pandemic or something hmmm..Version: 4.1.8

Won’t functionUp to a handful of days ago, this app would work effectively for what it was. A decent way to stay up on some local Michigan news. For some reason, even after repeatedly deleting and reinstalling, the app won’t load. Not sure what is going on. I am on an iOS platform.Version: 4.0

InconsistentUpdate 2021: Reviewed this app two years ago and loved it. Since then MLive has switched to paid subscription for some stories, and taken the commenting away. Two big missteps in my opinion, and I spend a lot less time on this app now. Grew up in Michigan, MSU grad and big fan. My wife and I plan to retire in Michigan in a couple of years. Like MLive for the variety of stories they cover, there’s something for everyone. Writing skill levels are inconsistent, but I understand how difficult it is to have editors read every single clip that is posted. Comment section is great, now that the mute feature is there. Would like to get feedback on why comments might get flagged, especially if I send an email requesting that feedback. Just because another flags a comment doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with that comment. Some moderators are trigger happy and need guidelines. Please link a screen name with an email address. Too many people stealing screen names and throwing out trashy comments acting as another. Needs to stop. Overall, a great idea, good product. Wish Illinois had ILive..Version: 4.1.12

80% locked content unless you payUsed to be decent. Now the majority of articles are locked subscriber paid content. Another company clinging to a dying model. Deleted the app and downloaded a local news app from WoodTV which provides Michigan news for free..Version: 4.0.14

Lots of potential, missed opportunityLike that there’s something news-related specific to Michigan in the App Store, but this app leaves me wanting something better. Inconsistent loading/refreshing within the app. Search function is essentially useless. Aricles that I open from a notification freeze the window in the app, and you can’t back out of it. And most recently, every article that is offered within a notification I receive is behind a pay wall. I understand the need for revenue, and would happily support local news sources, but not for a product that is poorly executed. At the very least, breaking news should be available to non-subscribers. Hope it improves someday..Version: 3.9.4

Not a News app. Not informative at allI just moved from Florida and expected something like west palm beaches forecast app to keep up to date in my state and area. Turns out the MLive app is for college football lovers and those who read on a second grade level. Your writers make bad story’s with grammatical issues everywhere. Screw this app there isn’t any information at all such a joke..Version: 3.9.4

What’s UpThis app has gotten so bad. You can’t even open the obits to read them. Also when trying to read a post it says it is no longer available so you go back and click on the picture to get the story. Then the very next article you have to click on the story and not the picture. I contacted them and said they knew there was a problem with the obits and working on it…..that was nearly a month ago..Version: 4.1.2

UselessEven after choosing the specific local area that I want news, it continues to give me mostly news from local areas on the other side of the state. I constantly choose Grand Rapids for news, but all I ever get is news about Saginaw, Flint, Detroit and the U.P. This app is useless and pointless..Version: 4.2.5

Too many articles need subscription. This use to be a good app until the majority of current articles can only be viewed through a paid subscription. If ads are needed to generate revenue, so be it. Asking readers to pay now is just greedy! I’ll keep the app to read the occasional “free” article or until it becomes fully subscription based..Version: 4.4.10

Horrible before, can’t tolerate it nowI’m officially deleting the app and I’m kind of sad. Here’s why. The previous version, with the swiping articles across the top, was terrible. To be a statewide news source, there were hardly any articles and you couldn’t tell the difference between statewide and local. And it pretty much consisted of all sports stories. I really only opened it when I was utterly bored. Fast forward to your new version. I got excited the first time I used it, just so much better look and feel and more content that had more variety, to just sports. And then it happened. I clicked NEWS in the menu along the left and began to scroll. 2, 3, 4 stories down and it rolls quickly back to the top. I guessing it’s refreshing, but seriously? I can’t get further than 5 stories down and normally a lot less. I’m done. Dee. Leet..Version: 4.0

APP CRASHES ON LAUNCH AFTER TODAY’S UPDATEI’ve been using this app without any problems whatsoever for the last year but today’s update totally broke it. It crashes immediately after launching. This is the only reason for the one star. I tried rebooting my device (iPad) with no luck. Please provide feedback if this is a known problem. As far as the content, having lived in various locales “outstate” for many years growing up and while in college and grad school, its really nice to have a solid source for news like Mlive that covers areas outside Metro Detroit. Thanks!.Version: 4.0

Occasionally hangs, weird formatting issuesTends to hang when loading the over abundance of ads crammed into every article. Still serves up those annoying fake winner apps that require you to quit the app to get away from the scam site. The way overused slideshows usually display blank pics; but high def ads - or they just hang the page. Many times it just opens to a blank page and I have to go menu spelunking to get content to show. Way too much sports fluff stories, and stories with (do not edit) or (insert caption here) still in the copy. Better than an actual newspaper for reading, but far worse for wrapping fish..Version: 3.7.15

The story? What story? Who, what, where and when? What next? That’s my reaction to your “stories”. There is such a profound lack of information mixed in with a good dose of misinformation that I keep deleting the app. Then I add it back, hoping things will be better. I vote for more news, fewer ads and write valid stories instead of lists of teasers that link to more flashy ads. What a waste of time..Version: 3.9.2

Clickbait centralAn app that proposes to offer news should be ashamed to have so much clickbait featured so prominently. 6 clickbait/fake news “Stories” on the main page. 6 slots where there could be actual Michigan news. Ads are one thing. This is something different..Version: 3.9.0

Needs improvementsIt’s nice to get local news however when I have my home town selected I wish it only showed stories from my area and not stories from statewide. I want to know what’s happening in Kalamazoo not Ann Arbor. If I want other towns news I’ll go to the statewide section. I would think the Kalamazoo section would only show those stories..Version: 3.7.25

Problems, problemsA generally good app; a nice collection of local stories that matter. There are two fairly glaring problems with the app, though: (1) the search function is broken and yields zero hits no matter what topic or thing you search for. (2) Lacks the ability to turn off or filter topics you would rather not clutter your news feed with. I don’t really pay much attention to sports, but this time of year (mid-December), almost all of the news on the home page is sports related; it would be nice to be able to turn off news on subjects or topics that don’t matter to the reader..Version: 3.7.21
