The Guardian Editions for Negative User Reviews

Not what I expectedThe app’s fine, but I don’t really see the difference between it and the normal Guardian app. I was hoping for something like the Times digital subscribers have, which is essentially an interactive PDF of that day’s print paper. It would be great to get something similar from the Guardian..Version: 8.1

Subscription IssueI subscribe via apple App Store to The Guardian. The log in screen on Guardian Editions app does not work. I have followed the help guide to renew subscription and the button does not work. Issue exists on my iPhone and iPad. The app has been rendered useless. I would really like to get in so I can see the food magazine articles in an easier format - huge shame!.Version: 8.8

Orphaned app?Worked for a while, but now wants me to resubscribe. However, the subscribe and resubscribe buttons are dead. Push on the subscribe button and nothing happens. Try the resubscribe button, I'm asked for my Apple ID, but nothing happens after that. Sent an e-mail to customer support, got machine answer back, five days later still no reply. Maybe the app has been abandoned?.Version: 1.0.4

No way of sharing or linkingI can find no way to save a page to e.g. notes or sharing a link to the online page. I realise this may not be possible on fast moving news stories but for items like recipes it’s a big omission.Version: 8.2

Slows down over timeI have been using this app for some time and it had become almost unusable. It was taking up to 15 seconds for each new page to appear. Trying to read the Guardian had become a very time consuming chore. I contacted the Guardian and was advised to delete then reload the app. This worked and new pages now appear quickly. I have no idea how long this will last though..Version: 9.2

Agree with Ron BiancoIt is just too slow. I really don’t want to spend my day with alternative activities to occupy my time while I’m waiting for the next page. Please make the whole process faster..Version: 9.0

Re-subscribe woesI, too, am unable to resuscitate my subscription. Have reinstalled several times, tried both a new subscription and re-starting the old when the annoying little Subscribe box pops up. The Helpers have tried (by suggesting I do what I've done several times and providing my UDID, etc.). They appear to have now run out of ideas and steam, and are silent for the past week. I'm now giving up on the Guardian. Pity. But the IHT, Sunday Times, Slate etc function properly..Version: 1.0.5

UnsubscribingTo unsubscribe, hold down the Newstand icon until it wiggles, then open the guardian and delete.Version: 1.0.2

CrosswordsNice app, but why aren't the crosswords available?.Version: 2.3

InefficientHuge pictures and awkwardly large type leave little room on the screen for information. This may be fine if you want to wallow in the publication but if you want to scan the headlines to select what to read, the web site or the other app is preferable..Version: 4.12

No "social" features = not subscribingI would give the appearance and content quality a 4/5 rating, however the complete inability to comment on an article means I won't be subscribing and takes the overall app down to 2/5. Content may be king, but if a tree falls in the woods, with nobody to comment or discuss it with friends or strangers, does it make any noise?.Version: 1.0.2

Needs an updateApp is full of bugs and needs an upgrade.Version: 9.3

E-text without search is cripplewareThere's little point to any text based application without a search facility..Version: 2.2

SuspiciousReally don’t understand where The Guardian is going with this “Editions” thing. What’s wrong with a daily news app with the content of the print version, which is what I (and everyone else who’s been signed up for any more than a week) wanted? I know it sounds wrong to complain about getting something extra, but If the direction is towards a magazine with less daily news and analysis, which is what I’m suspecting, it’ll be the final nail in the Guardian’s coffin for me. And another thing, every time I click on a link in the daily edition, I get asked if I’ll pay more. If the app is clever enough to know I’m a subscriber when I read it, why isn’t it clever enough to know I’m clicking through from an app that makes me a subscriber? Can’t you fix this?.Version: 7.1

May as well give upIs the Guardian trying to force us all over to other internet journalism? The Editions App is shocking. I have used it more or less from the outset and it improved for sometime where it was the best out there. About 2 years ago it started to go downhill now it really isn’t worth paying for anymore. Well done Guardian.Version: 9.7

Excess photo/text on front page: why not select other countries?Guardian news coverage is excellent. Need to change overall front page ratio, smaller or fewer pictures, more text on what the story is about. Or, at least let user pick if the want more pictures or more text. Also, navigation is awkward. Both NY Times and Washington post get balance and navigation better. Separate issue, why is "Guardian Editions" UK and Australia, and a separate App, "The Guardian" is needed for US coverage?.Version: 7.4

Needs retina support!!The developers of this app should look to the NYT for inspiration. It desperately needs among other things retina support, the ability to change text size and an overall better landscape mode. The content is there, it just needs a worthy vehicle to deliver it..Version: 1.0.4

FrustratingI tend to read articles from earlier editions and leave them open to continue later. Unfortunately, when returning to the article it apoears for a short time then disappears, then message 'content not found'. Other times it is immediately overwritten with the latest daily edition. Then need to reload the daily edition I really want and then remember in what section the article I want to continue reading is located. A simple fix would be to not automatically install the latest edition and give the user the option when they are ready! Guardian app developers please fix this..Version: 9.3

Great paper, awful appThe lag between categories in the reading experience is bad enough, but the reluctance to scroll down and the freezing makes it a slower read than its print version, when it should be as fast, if not faster. Hope the bugs are fixed soon..Version: 9.8

NightmarishI have had nothing but problems with this app. I used to subscribe and wanted to do so again. I download the app, puchase a subscription through the App Store, and simply cannot get the app to let me see an issue. It knows I have a subscription but won't let me download an issue and never moves off the "you need to subscribe" screen. I have tried removing it and reloading it...oh, a dozen or so times. I go to the website and look for help and none of the email links for help work. I give up. Great newspaper...just wish I could read the bloody thing!.Version: 3.3

Useless app for travellingI used to use the Guardian app to read the newspaper on the go - perfect on the commute on the tube. This app doesn’t work when you are not online, even if you have supposedly downloaded the day’s edition. I’m tired of seeing blank pages instead of articles and messages that say “you’re not online”. If you want to drive long standing Guardian readers away to other newspapers, then you’re onto a winner with this app!.Version: 9.8

Seems a weaker offering compared to the Guardian “Live” appI’ve used the original Guardian app for years, and was interested to give Editions a go to compare, wondering if I’d been missing out on a superior reading experience now that I own an iPad. Sadly however, having given it a go, I can’t see why I would ever choose to use Guardian Editions over the other app, as it seems to me to be weaker overall, with no real benefits I could find. The formatting of articles means they normally don’t fill the screen, and I often found myself scrolling down a thin looking column of text with bare white areas either side of it. There’s no dark mode, which there is in the other app. And also there’s no option to save articles to read later, only to share them. It certainly could be improved in the future… but for now I’ll definitely be deleting Guardian Editions, and instead continuing to use the other app and the Guardian website, both of which I find to be a better experience..Version: 7.9

Great but expensiveApp is easy to use, however subscription is expensive. I would like to see access to the Australian version of the paper.Version: 3.2

AbysmalThe Guardian used to have a superb and highly rated app a few years back. Then they changed it and it’s now ghastly. It has one of the lowest ratings in the App Store, but still the smug idiots don’t revert to the popular, and very highly rated earlier app. They think they know best, but the reviews and ratings say otherwise..Version: 9.2

Disappointed Guardian and you want how much per month?I'm a great fan of the Guardian and subscribe to the GW from Australia. I subscribe to the iPhone app and was wondering when their iPad app would arrive. This app is a dumbed down US style Flipboard with NO content. Where is the rich Guardian news content? I'd happily pay $15/ mth for an online subscription to the existing rich content Guardian website but not this content less iPad app. By comparison, the Economist iPad app (to which I subscribe) has 100% of the printed edition - it is identical. Please scrap this app and copy the Economists 100% approach..Version: 1.0

HuckstersFree initially and then they start charging..Version: 2.1

Frustrating accessTonight I cannot move between pages and for some weeks I do not get back to where I was when I re-access the app..Version: 8.4

Slow and glitchyVery slow. Does not sync well. Shut down open up wait ! Each page turn and scroll is slow. Feels like reading on dialup. Rubbish. Considering I am a paid up subscriber should I leave ?.Version: 9.10

2/5 to 5/5? How?Not sure how the ratings algorithm works on the App Store? I posted a 1* review only a few weeks ago when the average rating was 2/5. Now it’s 5/5; how did that happen? Before the update to this app in 2019 The Guardian Daily was 6/5, ie brilliant. The update was a solid 0/5 and it has spent the last year getting to 2/5 on the back of many 1* reviewers who helped them sort the mess out. I even had a phone call from the person in charge of the mess. Ok, it’s probably a 2/5 now, but 5/5? no way. Does anyone know how the algorithm works? Look back at all the 1* reviews in the last year and ask yourself if you are being told the truth..Version: 6.8

Paid but not available!!!! Won’t stay on my screenI am frustrated beyond words. I have been a Guardian customer for years, pay monthly. Suddenly the Guardian icon disappears when I click on it, or when I click on an article in my Guardian daily email. I just signed up again, and no luck. So...I’m getting double billed for no access!!! YOU HAVE A BUG IN YOUR SOFTWARE. Please fix it!.Version: 8.5

Crossword is awfulI love the newspaper. I love the journalism. I even love the crossword. So, the 2 stars is posted in a fit of pique because I can’t believe that after all this time and effort they’ve spent prettifying the app they haven’t sorted out the dismal functionality of the crossword. It can’t be that difficult to sort out and it’s not as if they haven’t been told..Version: 4.0

Some transparency missingI enjoy the regular app, I'm a paid supporter. I do not like how the articles in this app do not have the date and time they were published on them. It is a big feature to miss hopefully they can fix.Version: 7.0.1

How do you unsubscribe ?The app is nicely designed and easy to use , unsubscribing is another matter . I've looked all over and cannot find any way to opt out of the subscription . Any suggestions ?.Version: 1.0.2

No text selectionNice design but you can't select the text of articles in order to use the iOS built-in dictionary. You also can't pinch to zoom or double tap to make the text bigger and easer to read!.Version: 1.0

Change it backThis is not an improvement Was arguably the best news app out there, it’s now destroyed. Want to just read through the paper? Nope, got to go back to the home page at each section. Want to know where you were? Nope, that’s gone Awful, needs a lot of work..Version: 5.2.1

Why am I getting ripped off?I pay $19.90 a month subscribing to this UK Guardian publication (via the Apple Store) yet it is now "Unable to Render" every article ... so I'm paying for the headlines only. I have also paid another several hundred dollars for a years subscription to the Australian edition (again via the Apple Store. And once every month I get told I haven’t subscribed to one or another Guardian app, spend a day or two trying to sign on while having the app close down on me, then a day or so later things work again..Version: 6.1

LackingThis app is lacking a number of features that are available in the main Guardian app. Firstly there’s no way to bookmark an article. Sometimes I can find it in the main app and bookmark it there but often it’s exclusive content so I can’t bookmark it at all. Secondly there’s no dark mode. Please add this asap! Finally please optimise this app for iPad mini 6th gen as currently the app is rendered with black borders..Version: 8.1

Just got worseI often leave an issue half read at the end of the day and return to it the following day. On previous versions this stopped the images from working. Now it causes the content of the article I'm part way through to disappear entirely and I have to reload the issue and navigate back to my previous location. Why are paying subscribers subjected to this sub standard application where free users get a much more polished experience. I really want to support the guardian's journalism but you make it so hard..Version: 9.1

DisappointingI pay for this app to support the Guardian but find the free web version a better product , easier to navigate and does this the app does not like news updates and comments..Version: 7.8

I wish it were betterI read the Guardian every day - it's one my my three main sources of news. I really wanted to express my loyalty by subscribing on-line, instead of just going to their excellent website, but this app is just so unsatisfying, that after a week I cancelled the subscription. The app features large pictures and bars of color, but I can't really tell what the story is about from just the picture, and because the pictures are so large they consume a lot of the screen, so there is actually less usable information on each screen. It also makes me download each edition instead of just updating it, and it takes a long time (the pictures, I suppose). Navigation is harder than it has to be. It's too bad. The New York Times really nailed how to be a world class newspaper with a App presence. I wish the Guardian had done so as well..Version: 2.3

Why no zoom feature on this app?I can't be the only person who gets eye strain from trying to read the Guardian on my ipad can I? The major appeal of reading on a tablet is that, whether I'm on the tube or in bed, I can read without first having to fumble around trying to locate my reading glasses. Therefore, I cannot understand why this app doesn't include a zoom feature for increasing the font size. Surely this should be standard on any reading app? This will be the 'deal breaker' for me if it's still not added by the time my subscription is due for renewal. Developers - please act quickly. Great newspaper, but without this feature, it's hard to read..Version: 2.1

Cr-apConstantly just closes down when I’m in the middle of reading articles. So frustrating. Please fix this glitchy app..Version: 7.7

Photos don’t downloadI much preferred the previous version of the app but my biggest bugbear is that the photos don’t download - you have to be connected to wifi to see them which rather takes away the point of the download feature..Version: 7.7

Not worth it$13.99 a month is about $10 too much. The amount is insulting considering regular website content is free of charge. Dear Guardian - be less greedy and I'll pay for the iPad app..Version: 1.0.3

Missing content? No observer?I don't understand why there's so much more content available for free on the Guardian website which aren't available in the App. It's hard to see it as anything other than contempt for the people who are actually paying for a subscription, since they get less than the people pay nothing and just go to the web site. Also it's fine that apps develop over time and not everything anyone might like is there at the start. But it seems like the Guardian aren't actually trying to address anything, like add Retina support or adding any additional content. I think these problems are a terrible shame for what was originally a great app and a genuinely original new media experience. It still could be great..Version: 1.0.4

Terrible - Destroyed a great AppI used to love the Guardian Daily App, its was one of my favourites . It looked and felt like the newspaper itself. This “improvement” takes that concept, rips it up and throws it in the bin. A travesty. This is a cut down version of the main Guardian app hard to navigate. The sections don’t follow the paper. Comment and journal have disappeared. I would recommend to anyone DON’T download this. I want the old app back..Version: 5.1

Preliminary impression: Missing content & tagsI've been using the Guardian app on my iPhone for some time and have found it to be one of my two favorite news apps, in part because of the excellent tagging system which makes it easy to discover both new and archived content, and in part because of its flexible section/tag system. This app is missing both of those. It's a strange omission, since clearly the metadata is already available. There thus seems to be less content in this app, and less discoverability, than the iPhone one. I'm very pleased with the content, and am likely to purchase a subscription to support the paper, but I will be disappointed if the flexibility and marvelous archive which I've grown to love is not available here. For now, I've placed the iPhone app on my iPad next to this one. P.S. An earlier review complained that there were no sample issues. There are—just past issues, rather than future ones..Version: 2.0.2

App support poorSupposedly supports family sharing it doesn't support doesn't respond. Web page says sign in w other users I'd that's not family sharing you twats . If I download my purchases under her App Store it wants a subscription. If it can't be resolved I will cancel prior to next renewal and get a paper that does support.Version: 3.14

Good app but no flexibility in price structureI enjoyed my trial period with this app and did not experience any of the crashes other people have reported, however, I found that I only really wanted either the Saturday edition and/or The Observer. And you don't get the latter with this version of the app and you don't get the option to only have the Saturday edition. I'd be willing to pay half the price for the one or 2 week-end papers, but you don't get the choice, so...sorry - no sale..Version: 1.0.2

Much better than it wasHuge improvements have been made to the app! When the original switch occurred it really made me question my subscription but now I am pretty happy with it. My big issue is not being able to bookmark articles. For the weekend content such as recipes etc and the longer reads which you may want to come back to read later. I just don’t get why this feature is not part of the app. Every other newspaper or magazine app I use include this feature! It is very frustrating..Version: 7.5

Dodgy company I once respectedDODGY SALES — DO NOT TRUST — I respected this company for their journalism until I subscribed on their Australian website and then it turns out I was paying for UK local news and this was never made clear through the Australian website which claimed I could cancel “anytime” but when I tried to cancel the subscription through the app, it said I had to call a UK number in “business hours” (UK business hours when I’m in Australia and subscribed through their AU site), after contacting sales I have receive ZERO RESPONSE AFTER 2 MONTHS. Super dodgy company DO NOT TRUST EVER..Version: 6.9

Am locked out because l subscribed through the App StoreIf l had paid my annual subscription to The Guardian directly l would have automatically had access to the Weekend app. I have Apple devices and having downloaded the app purchased The Guardian subscription ‘in app’. That made actually accessing The Guardian difficult because the App Store doesn’t provide the same security sign in as actual The Guardian’s own store. Even more annoyingly, l can’t even separately ‘subscribe’ to the Weekend Guardian because you can only do that as a Guardian subscriber, which the system doesn’t recognise me as, because l came in through the Apple store. Deddlebu8, Melbourne, Australia.Version: 7.7

Bug riddenI have replaced my previous review, which was far too generous. The interface is bug ridden and awkward to use. Who allowed this version of the app to be released without proper testing?.Version: 9.8

Great, once you finally get inWhile the content is good, the actual app is so slow to load every day. And you often get booted out mid-read when the app suddenly decides to close. It did improve for a while but is now back to a snail’s pace. The Guardian - please sort it out!.Version: 9.1

App gets more annoyingNow when you scroll down, the article you happen to touch opens. Close it, try to scroll again, close the article you have inadvertently opened again. Eventually you get down the page but should it be this hard ? The grouping of articles and hiding them behind a plus sign seems to me just basic poor design, aren’t apps meant to be intuitive ? Finally, the download speed, always irritating, never improves. Approx 20 secs to update the nytimes (which does have its own issues). 10 mins on the same WiFi for the guardian daily. Excellent paper, bad app.Version: 4.12

Why no ‘save for later’?It is nice to have a dedicated app for the daily newspaper instead of the seductive live feed that leads to compulsive scrolling. But why is it not possible - after MANY years, I might add - to save articles for later? It is only possible via the workaround of the Safari “reading list” feature, but that necessitates jumping to a different app altogether. As a result, barely 3 stars..Version: 8.6

A disasterWhy try to 'fix' something that ain't broke? This version is far less intuitive than the predecessor, and seems to completely lack even the intermittent presence of the 'share' button that used to allow quick printing, saving or posting of individual articles. It's bad enough to tempt me to cancel my subscription. -- wright4321.Version: 5.2.2

No starsThe guardian's journalism may be terrific but app and customer service isn't. Cant read a thing, app doesn't work. Paid for a subscription, followed all FAQ for troubleshooting and the app still doesn't accept my subscription so is useless to me. No reply to multiple emails. Payed for nothing!.Version: 2.0.2

Much better but room for improvementAt last the app looks like a product worth paying for. It is still a disgrace that it was originally released in a form barely worthy of candidate release, never mind go live. It was obvious that basic testing simply had not been done. However, It now looks like a professional product and bugs seem to have been ironed out. I still feel that the flow could be improved, but, at last, it looks gorgeous again. Also, why don’t you have the guardian masthead. It’s almost like you’re embarrassed by it!.Version: 6.9

Version 5.2.1This is a horrifyingly bad “update”. It may help with one hand scrolling on a phone but the tablet experience is awful. A drop down menu linking to particular sections would be useful instead of incessant scrolling to find a particular section also we have now lost links to other associated articles next to an article we are reading. The whole navigation of the paper is now needlessly complicated and I do not want a curated front page by your editors we should have ease of navigation led by our own curiosity. The last iteration was not great but this is by no means an improvement..Version: 5.2.1

Issue won't downloadOn a mobile good broadband connection in Peru an issue never downloads..Version: 1.0.3

Not bad, but $14/month!?I still fail to understand why they think I will pay $14/month for content that they give away for free on the website. The app is a bit slicker but harder to navigate than the website, and no commenting ability..Version: 1.0.4

Good for reading - but nothing elseTo the programmers: don’t you think your users might want to: print a story? Share a link? Bookmark a recipe?.Version: 7.1

A total jokeThis iteration of my beloved Guardian is the dogs breakfast. Large blocks of useless annoying color adorn the front page with little helpful text. The same holds true for the Sections. In an effort to look hip they have tarted up this app with purples and blues and have ruined navigation. Don't get me wrong the journalism is still the same and the offline reading is nice. Thats what gets it the two stars. But for an app that I would subscribe to regularly? Not with this poor example of polish. The Giardian website is still faster, more up to date and easier to use. Guardian take a tip from the news aggregators. Present the stories to me so I can make choices and not be assaulted by your ideas of a keel color palette..Version: 1.0

What happened to my favorite newspaper app???Same here regarding lack of ability to renew and restore old issues and sub at beginning of new month. Been a subscriber for eight months, hd problems renewing twice before now still unable to get new issues after four days. What gives??. Love the paper AND the app -- when it works. Not loving' it now.Version: 2.0.2

Latest version of app doesn’t always render contentI have a screenshot of the app not rendering content. Seems quality control has gone out of the window..Version: 7.1

App going downhillWhatever is going on with this app? I’ve enjoyed the Guardian for the last 10 years without any problems. Now I get told every ten minutes that there is no internet available and the screen goes blank Very frustrating - please sort it out so that once I have downloaded it I can continue to read it offline..Version: 8.1

Font size?A nice app that is let down by the inability to change the font size..Version: 1.0

Recent problemsWe’ve had this app for ages. Twice recently we’ve had to delete it and reinstall to make it run properly. It doesn’t seem to allow looking at previous editions, even a day or two ago. The first time we reported it. Now we’re just reinstalling but I wonder how many others have same issue. A friend’s iPad (older) has not had the same problem. Sept. 2021 No change to the consistency in this app. Once again, as a long-time subscriber I have been asked to sign in to the app. This is so irritating. Please fix this bug! If you do it for security purposes say so..Version: 8.1

CrashingI have enjoyed reading the Guardian via this app for several years, however in the past 2 days it has crashed repeatedly. Have tried reinstalling but that has made no difference. Please fix this..Version: 8.6

Endless crashesThere really seems to be something wrong with the release testing process. For the past couple of months I’ve had the same as others have reported, namely frequent crashing, blank pages and slow loading. Restarting iPad makes no difference. Also, no article share functionality on the paid app when it’s in abundance on the same articles on the free Guardian app. Pretty cheesed off and considering cancelling.Version: 8.1

Crashes constantlyVirtually unusable now as it crashes on scroll for most articles. I have deleted and reinstalled several times..Version: 8.0

Great content, but irritating formatI love the Guardian, but I think this app is trying a bit too hard to look like Windows 8, at the expense of usability. Too much wasted screen real-estate (empty space) with too large fonts. Few story summaries so you have to click to find out what the story is about. And the vertical scrolling is irritating in the same way that a broadsheet format is irritating. I also read the Sydney Morning Herald app and they've really got it right! Text summaries next to every headline so you don't have to click to find out what the story's about; a compact format thats easy to read but has lots of detail in the summary screens, and a photo for each story so it looks good; and horizontal scrolling only for the summary pages which is a much quicker and easier experience. I'd agree that $10/mth seems to be the price people are ok with. Hopefully they'll listen to feedback and I look forward to the cheaper and more comfortable version 2..Version: 1.0

Dreadful!I’m unable to access the edition offline even though it shows as having fully downloaded when I’m online. I’ve raised the problem several times with the help team and have followed their advice but to no avail. Very disappointing..Version: 9.7

Drains battery unbelievably!I had to take it off. Even with Background App Refresh off, it used up 70% of my battery while I slept. Really really odd..Version: 6.6

Downloading issueI have used the app for years. As of Sept 2021, it just doesn’t download properly. You can’t read unless connected to the internet, which is useless of a commute. And still in 2022, it won’t download, you have to be online, and these concerns are ignored. Why pay if you get what others get for free?.Version: 8.8

Style over contentOkay, so the app is quite cool and colorful (the hues are not totally to my taste either) and mercifully bug-free even in the 1.0 version which is no mean feat but my main gripe is the limited nature of the content. I understand that the Guardian have had to compromise between complete content versus push loading etc., but this is far too compromising. Good novelty app when free but doesn't replace print or website so why subscribe when the generous free trial ends?.Version: 1.0

The old app was far betterThis version is so bad that I cancelled my subscription to it. I far preferred the older version of this app - it was the perfect iPad magazine. I now use the website and subscribe to that. It was a bad move to cancel the old app and move to this one..Version: 6.0

AtrociousThe old app was simple and perfect, this is a disaster that takes ages to load and freezes between turning pages of an edition. Based on so many negative reviews and that the developer seemingly doesn’t want to fix the issue I’m out. Mind boggling in an age where news publishers are struggling..Version: 7.1

Can’t access contentI am a subscriber to the Guardian . The app looks fantastic, it won’t let me open articles because it says it doesn’t recognise my subscription. Can’t find any way to get developer help apart from writing this review,.Version: 7.4

Better than it wasThis app was appalling (and the puff pieces in The Guardian about its development were, and remain, despicable). But it's ... better: quite a lot better in fact. I'm still not completely convinced by it but it has improved quite a lot. One big and obvious thing would be to pass information in links to the Guardian website that tell it I'm a subscriber so it does not pester me about not being. I realise lots of people never nuke browser state – because they like being tracked, I guess – but some of us do still care about privacy, and do do..Version: 7.4

Crap once moreThis app was a car crash when they released it, but it got slowly better. Now it is as bad as ever. It takes ages to download. Pages need minutes before they are able to be opened or once opened scrolled. Today’s edition downloads, but that’s it: can’t open any pape, can’t scroll on the Home Screen, can’t open the settings button. They take a tenner a month for this. And it you use the Guardian app as a back up you don’t, unlike other subscribers, get the ad-free version. It’s a terrible experience and a terrible service..Version: 8.9

Slow and getting slowerWhy does the app forget the page I am currently reading? Why does it take 10+ seconds for a page to be scrollable when I turn the page? How hard can it be to make a responsive viewer for static pages of text and images? Obviously too hard for the Guardian! I know that you just want us to use your other application but I don’t need a dynamic ever changing view of the news. I want an edited curated daily view of the news just like the printed paper..Version: 9.8

Turns The Guardian into a taboidThe screen is filled with big pictures, big headlines, and no text at all. This makes it impossible to read the paper efficiently. I am deleted it..Version: 5.1

Never able to log inI paid for a subscription through Google and have the bill to prove it. I lost access shortly afterwards (I got a few weeks) was never able to log back in. Attempts to generate a new password always failed, I never received any communication. Tech support at the guardian were completely unhelpful and I was never able to solve the problem. I am glad the money went to a good cause but was astonished by the lack of access and support..Version: 7.7

Another orphanMy app became non responsive at the end of June and wouldn't let me extend a subscription I'd been successfully using for several months previously. After a couple of iterations with customer support they gave me free trial for 1 month. When that expired I get the same problem all over again. Can't resubscribe. None of the buttons work. Kinda ridiculous. Makes it more like a PC-based product than something for Apple..Version: 1.0.4

Great but keeps closing the AppI like the format of this and it’s great to read. Tend to use my iPad as it’s bigger to read on than the phone. The one huge downside is that the app keeps kicking me out. I’ve got the most up to date version, but still I quick on an interesting article and the whole app shuts down. Infuriating. It does it time and again at the moment causing frustration. Please fix this.Version: 7.9

Reading that guardian is losing money i signed up for subscription butThis app is unbelievably bad. It looks great but it is clearly designed by and for cook book illustrators. As some people know there is an economic crisis in Europe with, for now, Spain, under attack. It is impossible to find anything on this from todays app even though on the web Tremlett has an excellent article. We need to support the Guardian but ignore the app!.Version: 2.0.1

Keeps crashingI’ve had to contact test pilot as every time I click into a story, it crashes. Have deleted and downloaded again, no different. Am on the third day of this and it’s starting to grate!.Version: 7.1

Terrible moveNew format not fit for purpose on my iPad. Clunky transitioning between stories - no longer able to tap edge of screen to move forward or back. Content not saved on device - images not available when not on line. Have not seem a graphic image since loading the new - extremely disappointing. Enjoy a laugh. Crossword layout and usability primitive. I really don’t like it. Can you tell?.Version: 5.2.2

Not badIt's okay but still no retina support. Quite a let down if you ask me..Version: 1.0.4
