Sallie Mae® Banking for Negative User Reviews

Shows how little Sallie Mae cares about its customersFeels like an intern designed the app.... in the year 2011.Version: 5.2.2

PrimitiveI can't look at any transactions older then 5 weeks or so. I have some CDs on top of a savings account and it shows zero information about them like interest rate or even maturity date. It is unbelievable how useless this thing is. Like someone previously said about the only thing you'd consider keeping it for is mobile deposits. Must log in to full website for any info. I don't think their website is super great either but oh well, I guess functionality isn't their selling point..Version: 4.2

So much wrong, I don't know where to start.I was searching for Sallie Mae student loans in the App Store. Only Sallie Mae banking app comes up and is available. Student loans aren't cross tabbed with banking, so you can't log in to the app with your student loan credentials. There is no Sallie Mae student loan app. I understand why everyone's so frustrated. Bad search results in the App Store and no app from Sallie Mae anyways. I agree with other reviewers. With the amount of money Sallie Mae makes off of borrowers, you'd think they could turn out a simple balance and payment app..Version: 2.0

Claims there's a newer versionI was excited about the new app, since the old app was way overdue for an upgrade. Unfortunately I hate the website redesign that accompanied the app upgrade, information is now hidden that used to be at the top of the main page. But this review is for the app, not the webpage, so I'll get back to the app. I have logged in to the new app a few times, but now when I try to log in I merely get a message that there's a new version in the app store and I must upgrade to use the app. Problem is, there is no new version in the app store. Even when the app lets me log in, I dislike the new design--the text and design elements are so big and spaced so far apart that I can't see much info without scrolling..Version: 5.1.0

The good news...The good news is that no nefarious organization will be ever be able to hack this app because it barely functions and they would get supremely frustrated even trying to access the most basic of functions. It's also awful for honest, actual users..Version: 5.3

Major issuesCan’t see the login ID or password when logging in. Gives unsupported browser warnings. Just a complete mess. Sure, I can eventually get logged in and see my account, but this is just a garbage app that desperately needs an update..Version: 5.2.2

UselessMy favorite flaw is the app tells me I can find my 1099 in the statements section. There is no statements section. My second favorite is that it tells me my browser is not supported and lists my browser as supported..Version: 5.2.2

Piece of crapPiece of crap.Version: 5.2.2

Can't transfer to/from external accountsOne of my favorite features of Sallie Mae's banking accounts is the ability to transfer money to/from external accounts. That's what makes them a good online bank, combined with their good rates. But the mobile app can't do these transfers, which means it isn't good for much more than checking your balance--which you could set up Mint to do anyway. I didn't even bother to try a mobile deposit. The app is just lame. The interface is clunky and icons are overly large. The Preferences consist solely of setting your time zone. The Web site doesn't need your time zone. If the app needs it, why not ask iOS? To all those people who can't log in, be sure you have signed up for mobile banking on the Sallie Mae Web site. It works fine if you do that first..Version: 2.0

No loan support, login screen is uselessSo even if the app doesn't support access to your student loan account, a lot of people obviously (and rightfully) assume it would. After trying to log in several times (did not get any hints about having to activate mobile banking in a browser) I deleted the app. A little bit of context and information in the failed login screen would go a long way. Listen to your customers, Sallie Mae: it doesn't make sense to create an app that doesn't serve the majority of your customers... And if it doesn't, make it clearer..Version: 1.2

APP IS BROKEN. DOESN’T SHOW USER AND PASSWORD.Why doesn’t the app display the user ID as it’s being entered? This app needs a do over..Version: 5.2.2

Student LoansI'm encouraging Sallie Mae staff to create access for student loans! I noticed there was a lot of speculation in the reviews about the topic but I personally feel this would be a great advantage for Sallie Mae to jump on since so many companies allow complete financial access via an app! I would just love to be able to view/pay my student loans via mobile app!! Thank you for your continued support, Sallie Mae staff!.Version: 1.2

No Student Loan Support?!Got an email from Sallie Mae over a month ago saying their mobile app would be supporting student loans soon... has yet to happen. Looking at the previous reviews on this app, this seems to be the number one complaint. Not sure what the difficulty is in providing this service or why it is taking so long to be established, but I'm pretty sure a deserved .5 to .75 discount on borrowers' rates would somewhat make up for the long awaited mobile app accessibility annoyance, if it ever happens..Version: 1.2

Not greatThis app is very basic and hardly useful. It’s slow and does not work half of the time. Just a blank screen. App developers should look at other successful banking apps and take notes. This app needs major improvement..Version: 5.5

Needs a lot of improvementI was hoping the update of the app that was hyped for months by the emails would be modern. It feels like this app would be at home 10 years ago. It refuses to remember my login information, doesn’t utilize any biometric methods, refuses to log in on any WiFi networks I have to turn it off every time I want to login and check my account, and does not have a way to access my tax information. I expected more from the update and really hope they improve the app. I really enjoy having an account with the bank, just not the ease of access on mobile devices..Version: 5.1.0

Worthless—Can’t acccess statementsWhat good is a banking app that doesn’t allow customers to view/access statements? This app should be called “Sallie Mae Acct Balance” because that’s all you get—the balance in your account. Worthless junk for a customer..Version: 20.2.2

Fix itCan you fix the issue where you can see what login ID and password you’re typing and also be able to save the info so you don’t have to type it in every time? Really annoying..Version: 5.2.2

Kinda worksI had the same problem as the other person who cold not log in. I guessed that I had to enable myself for mobile banking on sallie mae's website first, which solved the issue but it was not at all obvious from the app - in fact the error message is very misleading. I was able to deposit one check. Trying to deposit the second check resulted in a message that I am over a threshold. I am not sure if that's a real problem or not as the two checks combined add up to around 500 bucks. Also - once I was blocked at not being able to deposit because of the threshold, the app got stuck (ie I could not hit any of the buttons along the bottom, the only thing that worked was the button to retry depositing) Anyway I am giving 3 stars because at the end of the day I was able to get my one check deposited which was more convenient than going to the ATM, but the software is far from good..Version: 1.0.2

HorribleSimply does not function.Version: 5.2.2

Not functional at allI have deleted and reinstalled this app multiple times through the years in hopes it would be better. But today it still isn’t. At least I used to be able to login and move money between my linked accounts. As of prior reinstall couldn’t do that since it said I had no linked accounts. Had to go to the website to do it. As of today, can’t even sign in, says there’s an error, yet I can sign in on the website. I’ve had my account for 9 years and originally opened it since I had student loans with Sallie Mae and the banking interest rate was great. Now my student loans have been sold to someone else and the interest rate is poor. Also, if you were a Upromise member you could have your money deposited into your checking and you got matches on how much you spent. That’s been taken away too. Combine these with no app functionality and I think it’s time for a new bank..Version: 4.3

Lacking basic modern featuresThis app needs an overhaul fast. Slow loading, poor user experience. May move my money elsewhere because this app is so bad..Version: 5.5

IN MAJOR NEED OF SOME UPDATINGThis app is in serious need of updating. We need a much more friendly and intuitive user interface so that we can navigate through our account much more easier. It also needs a fingerprint or face recognition log in. If any sallie Mae developers are reading this, please, please, PLEASE give this app the attention it needs because it beats going on the browser and logging in with a user name and pass just to be able to check on your account(s)..Version: 4.3

Zero ratingCome on, App Store. You should allow “0” star ratings. This app certainly deserves it!!!.Version: 5.5

One more student requesting PLEASE ADD LOAN SUPPORT!Just let me point out one little inconsistency. Of all of Sallimae customers, what age group is most likely to have an iPhone and want to do their banking with an iPhone? ANSWER Students! So, really, you choose to exclude them from your first iPhone banking app??? Oh but wait, it's probably because some bright office lackey thought to themselves, "we already have their money, so why build them an app, let's build an app to try to attract more banking customers. Your mistake is that all those students are going to get jobs soon and they're going to start banking. If you make them a great app that makes it really easy for them to pay their student loans, they'll want to have all their banking in the same place. Anyway, just some thoughts. I hope you add functionality for loan payment soon..Version: 1.0.1

The Worst Banking App In The UniverseI am just shocked every time I log into the app and then remember it's not going to show me any of my activity, so I am going to have to open a browser and log into the website. Just forget it about this app, forget it. The only thing you would ever need it for would be to do mobile deposits where you have to snap pics of checks and upload. Everything else don't even both logging into the app, or at least try to train yourself to avoid it... I haven't been too successful remembering! :-l.Version: 4.2

Rarely worksI’d say >75% of the time, I can only see my balance before I start getting error messages. It’s nearly impossible to navigate the menu or go to my profile without the app freezing, crashing, or saying “function not available” Why offer an app if you’re not going to maintain it and make it usable?.Version: 5.2.2

Absolutely worthless appI’m astonished that a financial institution as large as Sallie Mae could put out such a horribly designed app. There’s literally zero functionality to this app, other than viewing your current balance and recent transfers. Want to access your statement? Forget about it. Need your 1099 for tax purposes? Nope. The app has essentially been the same for years with no meaningful updates. Every year I try to access my 1099 and get frustrated realizing the only way to view statements or tax documents is by using the desktop version. Text banking is a joke, and the mobile version of the website is just as lacking as the app. Even the smallest banks credit unions have figured this out. Sallie Mae clearly doesn’t give a crap about making the user experience simple or efficient. I’m moving my money elsewhere..Version: 20.2.2

FIX YOUR APPThis does not work..Version: 5.5

Need biometricCan’t always remember password/ user id. Very inconvenient app..Version: 5.5

Typical Sallie MaeIt honestly doesn't even surprise me that I can't sign in with the Sallie Mae login that I use everyday and then when I look for help they are nowhere to be found. These people are unbelievable... GOD FORBID I fall a day behind on one of my $1,000 monthly payments... they send a swat team to my front door, but the day I need assistance from them, their 10 thousand person team of customer service reps (that was calling in threats the day before) all of the sudden decided to take a sick day... TYPICAL Sallie Mae - Par for the course. Doin great here boys, keep up the good work!.Version: 1.2

Login.I am not seeing what I am typing, when I login..Version: 5.2.2

Save yourself the aggravationIf you want to just check your account then this app works. If you want to make a deposit, you cannot. You call customer service and they are clueless as to why you cannot make your deposit. There is no help and no way to clear your app history. Your online account requires you to clear your history. This one doesn’t let you know what you have to clear. You may want to clear out your account and go elsewhere.Version: 4.3

CalypsoI mostly use my Sallie Mae savings as a place to keep money separate from my main accounts at another bank. Since I can't transfer between outside accounts, makes app just a simple viewer for me. I can look at my account balance but that's it. Also pretty bad when you have to read the reviews of an app to figure out how to use it. I kept getting the connection error until other reviewers told me how to get logged in..Version: 1.0.2

Your session expired, please login againAs the title of this review states, every time I login I have to login twice. The first time I get the message “Your session expired, please login again”, the second time I get logged in. Otherwise mostly decent app, would be 3 stars without this issue..Version: 5.5

HorribleSuper unimpressive app. It is shocking that the app does not allow for face recognition to sign in and does not even save a user name. I get the need for security requirements. But, every other major financial institution in the world allows for face recognition and for the user name to be saved..Version: 20.2.2

No login memory or biometricsThere’s no support for remembering your user name and no biometrics support. So each time you use the app, you have to remember everything which probably means your userid and password are the same for all your web sites or you have to go to another browser that does remember in which case you no longer need the app..Version: 5.2.2

Wow, yes it is unloved. This is pretty much bottom-of-the-barrel when it comes to bank managed apps. It doesn’t show me all of my Sallie Mae accounts, it’s security is weird, it’s functionality is very limited, and the whole thing feels old and crusty. I’d imagine that a bank is mostly about security and customer service, but this app just doesn’t feel that way. It’s a bad “face” for Sallie Mae. Hopefully they can eventually invest just a little more to make it what it deserves to be. The hard part is done. Now just sweep away the internal bureaucratic drama and make it prettier..Version: 4.3
