One World Dictionary by Ascendo is a leading multilingual reference tool for Apple computers.
The free version is a good starting point for beginners. It includes over 100,000 dictionary translations, 1,000 phrases and 5,000 verb conjugations in English, Spanish, French, Italian and German. Extended dictionaries and phrase books are offered as in-app purchases.
The extended dictionaries are comprised of over 250,000 translations 6,000 verb conjugations per language pair. Translations include multiple meanings, part of speech, noun gender and verb tenses. One World Dictionaries integrate with Lion applications such as Safari so you can lookup words using control-click.
The extended phrase books include 528 phrases per language pair in 20 categories. You can add your own phrases and search by keyword.

✓ A good basic appThis is a good help in my self-learning French. However, the limitations are: 1. not enough words 2. only in US English. I guess that the aim is to encourage one to buy extras - not sure, my French is not that good yet, but I expect I shall be buying extras…!.Version: 2.1.14
✓ Great, quick dictionaryThe free version is quite good, and with a system-wide keystroke to look up a highlighted word, it is also incredibly rapid. If a word I need is part of the paid upgrade, I usually flip over to Google Translate instead. However, if I continue to use the product regularly, I would seriously consider purchasing the upgrade..Version: 2.1.14

✗ Some free definitions, but most must be purchasedIt's a quick and free download to check this out, and that is a good thing. However, the sample screen shots seem only to show the app after one has purchased the in-app dictionaries (admittedly low cost at only $9.99). What is not shown is the fully free version which inludes a list of words in the left pane, and the translations are freely available for some words, but most have a little lock symbol next to them indicating the dictionary must be purchased for those translations. I understand how this frustrates some folks, but the app is FREE after all. For a simple list of words and translations, this app is probably OK if you see it as a $9.99 purchase, and get the offered dictionary for at least one language. For most users, I suspect the free version will be inadequate. For a more complete dual language tool, there are better options available, albeit at a higher price. Having tried this low cost option, I am now headed to the Ultralingua app myself. The iOS version is great, and I want that capability on my Mac..Version: 1.0
✗ Not bad for a beginnerFor a beginner to a new language this dictionary is great. For someone more advanced, not the best investment. There are not a lot of words used in my University lectures that I've been able to find on here; can get a little frustrating. So I reccomend, if you want a great dictionary, unfortunetly you'll have to spend a bit more money in order to get the quality. This app is however very helpful though, for showing conjugations of verbs in different tenses. This is about the only thing I like about it..Version: 2.1.14
