The digital rip off revolution beginsPeople shouldn't complain about the in app purchases as this is how apple applications often work. The app is free but useless without the subscriptions - perhaps thats what they should explain more clearly. The magazine in this form for this price is an absolute rip off though. These publishers create their magazine digitally and the reason they are £5 for a copy in the stores is because the printers, finishers, distributors, wholesales and retailers all take their cut. This digital method means they now have to just give apple their 30% so they ought to be able to place their mags on the digital news stand at 1/2 the price of printed copy. Having near the same price is profiteering pure and simple and going straight into the publishers pockets. Until publishers wake up to this, I won't be buying any digital copy as I for one don't want to be ripped off. And I work in the magazine industry!.Version: 2.5.1

An app about 'nothing'Would one free issue be too much to ask? Publishers just don't get it..Version: 2.2

DeceivingThis is NOT free. Not worth it..Version: 2.2

Where is my MagBook purchases?I spent more than £30 to buy MagBooks and suddenly all my collection disappeared! There is no way to bring all my downloads back. I contacted to App developer but I haven't get any feedback or any help from them. As a result, I lost all my collection + £30! I am just hopping that they will fix the App as soon as possible!.Version: 5.0.0

Copy and PasteJust download the app and first edition on my iPhone 3G and it's already crashed 3 out of the 5 times I've tried to use it. That wasn't the most annoying about this app though. I can't see any way that this has been developed for mobile, it's just a copy and paste of the full pages of the magazine so basically you're flicking though it like you would with photos. None of the pages or stories are optimised for the smaller screen so it's complete waste of time. I can't believe I just paid £2.99 for this. Look at the Guardian app for example, all the content but designer for mobile, so easy to read and navigate..Version: 2.2

Awful appWith this update I lost access to to all the magazines I had previously purchased. Whilst this update now allows to me to view the monthly issues, the special issues are still unavailable - if I want to view them I have to purchase them again! Tried to email the support desk, but I'm pretty sure they don't even read the email as you just get a standard reply which doesn't even answer your question. The interactive edition is awful. The text and images don't always display properly. It would be helpful to just have a magazine style issue... but this is too difficult apparently! I used to enjoy Men's Fitness, not anymore..Version: 4.0.1

OkayIt's the exact same as getting the magazine. Cost is a bit cheaper and this is paperless..Version: 2.2

NOT FREEThey lie! No free preview or anything. They're trying to reel you in with false advertising. Stup1d greedy bas-tards..Version: 2.2

Don't buy anything on thisHave complained that the Magbooks section has completely disappeared, they acted like I was the first person to complain (ludicrously unlikely) and said it was being fixed but no hint of a fix after weeks and no offer of a refund. Do NOT pay for anything on here because they are useless..Version: 5.0.0

Utter RubbishSubscribed to Mens Fitness, was working fine, now cant download anything, saying I haven't paid when I have. Waited for 45mins on the phone only to be told its a common problem and cant be fixed for 7-10 days. I feel robbed..Version: 5.3

Not free! This app is a joke! To download the app is free but to read any issues is costly. Isn't digital media suppose to be free, if not cheaper?! ...no cost of transportation, no waste of trees or ink, etc. Deleting this app immediately..Version: 2.2

What a RipThis is far from free. Very misleading. Buyer beware..Version: 2.2

Ulero,uleroPorkerias son solo ganchos k diría S.J. De esto?????.Version: 2.2

Free? Not even a free preview? These magazine apps are ridiculous. Hate having to give it even one star. Apple needs a no star option..Version: 2.2

Lame!!!!Definitely not free. By the way what's up with not being able to put the news stand in a folder? This whole thing just seems more like a marketing ploy by Apple than a new feature. Thanks Apple! You just lost some respect..Version: 2.2

Not at the level of paper versionInterface isn't user friendly at all, especially with MagBooks but that's a global opinion: Reading magazine is complicated, use Magbooks is really uncomfortable. That's a shame because I would like to have the Magbooks collection on my phone but not until interface improvements. Your magazines and books are fantastic, please make an app at the level!.Version: 5.0.5

BooooooI thought this suppose to be free???? This is bogus!.Version: 2.2

No longer worksNot working since update on iphone or ipad, selecting restore purchase does nothing after entering iTunes password it just sits there at the account screen. On the ipad I'm able to go to the library but it clearly hasn't worked as shows all magazines I've purchase as needing to be bought again.Version: 4.0

Bogus! Not free!!Not free!!!!!!.Version: 2.2

Sensible comments pleaseFor those rating this 5 star and insulting others: although some negative comments are related to the newsstand app rather than men's health, there is a lot of good criticism of the online magazine version. For example, if you are paying this much for an on line magazine you would expect it to use the features, interactive nature and screen quality of the device that is its target market. I will not be purchasing another magazine until it moves away from a scan of the hard copy and takes advantage of the iPad features! For those that are calling people stupid, maybe you should actually heed your own advice and read the comments; your enthusiasm to defend the magazine makes me think you are a little overprotective and are not giving an independent review...anyone on the men's health payroll?!? My advice, spend less time defending the naff iPad feature you have put out and make the customers happy by producing the fantastic interactive application that could be developed!.Version: 2.2

Need to fix previous purchase bug!!!!The new lay out looks awesome! One problem though... This app will not let me download any of my previous purchases! Despite saying that it will download them. This is a big issue that needs to be sorted as I see I am Not the only one with this problem!.Version: 4.0

Nice job Apple.......NotThe other reviews are correct. All of the news stand products are a "bait and switch" type of scam. They say "free." Sure, if in some weird way you consider paying over three times the cover price for an annual subscription to a digital media source..Version: 2.2

Free?Don't waste your time nothing free here not even a deal.Version: 2.2

Free?Total bait and switch. What is free, just the magazine's front cover icon?.Version: 2.2

Nice try with the updateHaving released version 5.0 with no access to MagBooks, it's great to see they've brought them back, however, despite troubleshooting for hours, I'm no better off. I can restore my purchased MagBooks (the app shows "Download" instead of the price tag) but when I tap download, I continuously get an error message: "Download Failed - there was an error while downloading". I've bumped my score to 2* on the basis this is progress, but still major bugs. Seriously disappointed in your development team. 😔.Version: 5.0.3

False addMagazine in a free section, not a trial version nor is it free.Version: 2.2

What a waste of Time!!! Not free!!!Yeah, hate it too! Don't waste my time with this kind of fake advertising!!!.Version: 2.2

Not free -they should be ashamedBad - very bad.Version: 2.2

Free?No free content......Version: 2.2

Fine with not free but still have cost issuesIt's fine that this isn't free. Why would it be when they sell the content for money in the shops. However, charging the same price? There is no materials cost, printing costs, or distribution costs to worry about. And as you're trying to get people into a new way to get your publication a little price incentive would be a good idea. Try knocking a pound of the cost and I'll be happy to rate higher..Version: 2.2

... NoYou've got to be kidding me. $42.99 a year for a subscription? When Nat Geo's lusciously ink filled pages and glorious binding who have others eating their hearts out can charge $19.99 a year there's a serious problem. Way, way too much.Version: 2.2

Not free4.99 an issue >:(.Version: 2.2

No contentI downloaded this and instead got an app called PixelMags. It did not contain my magazine or any info about how to get it. Waste of time..Version: 2.2

Poor experienceEssentially a scan of the paper magazine. So given the iPad isn't a4 sized It's difficult to read. The price doesn't seem to reflect this. Plus if you buy the paper version you can share with friends. Which you can't with the iPad version. Compared to what the metro does every day for free. This once a month poor effort should be avoided until the publisher realises that some effort needs to be put in..Version: 2.2

Crap! Wasted 30 seconds on downloading.Lies about being 'Free'. this is such a poor way of attempting to get customers. Worst part they probably advertise it as 'millions of downloads' then neglecting to tell us that 99% deletes it within minutes..Version: 2.2

ScamThis is not free!!!.Version: 2.2

False advertisingIt's not free and doesn't even have a few pages of preview. Good luck in having any sales.Version: 2.2

Not freeeeeDidn't expect it to be free but you never know. Don't list app as free because it's a useless app without a PAID subscription!!.Version: 2.2

Are you kidding me?This is the wrong way of doing it!.Version: 2.2

Good magazine, but not entirely free...Have to buy each issue or subscribe in-app..Version: 2.2

NOT FREE False advertising!NOT FREE False advertising! What a misleading label of "free"! You have to pay to see anything! Usually paper magazines give at least one issue free!.Version: 2.2

Rip OFFI've had a paper subscription for the past few years costing $15 a year! Why the $)&& would I pay $42 for a digital copy? RIPOFF.....Version: 2.2

Great paper mag, poor digital oneI enjoy reading the paper version of the mag & thought I'd try the iPad/iPhone version. iPhone: Not a good experience. The text is too small for the screen & the double tap to zoom isn't text & photo aware; it just zooms to where you tapped without centralising the text or zooming to a level appropriate for the photo. iPad: An ok experience. Same problems as on the phone but slightly easier to read. It lacks features (has none) & is expensive for what you get (a scanned copy of the printed version). There are better magazine apps out there. I hope they come up with something more suitable to the expectations of today's readers..Version: 2.2

Rip offNot free.Version: 2.2

DisappointedThe real problem with this app is that it only produces a scanned PDF of each magazine, ads and all. It is very hard to read on an iPhone. Men's Health should optimize their mag- we want MORE than just a scanned PDF..Version: 2.2

Beyond st00pid! Not free and simply angers potential customersAs previously mentioned, Dennis Pub you should FIRE anyone involved in the decision to put this poorly thought out effort to defraud readers with a 'free' newstand mag, instead of taking the opportunity to offer a free copy of your October or November or heck even Aug/Sep to potential customers. Instead you so annoy people including print readers like myself, that not only will we remove this cruddy app we will also stop buying your magazine on the newstand or unsubrscribe ( I used to do both now will do neither). Missed opportunity to profit more by selling at a quarter the price to 5 times the readers at a 10th of the cost of shipping wood pulp and ink, obviously a m0r0nic sheme by a publication so obviously out of touch with modern times, it's painful. Take your old-school thinking to the media grave with ya you toolz'!.Version: 2.2

Nothing free hereJust a link to try to sell an expensive subscription. Don't waste your time.Version: 2.2

A lost opportunityUnlike all the other morons on here, my rating is not because the magazines aren't 'free. I expect to pay for the work that goes into the magazines but why when I can pick up a fully printer physical versioning the shops for a cover price of £4.00 should I pay £4.99 on here? I understand the economics of lower demand driving up prices but when there's no physical distribution involved, the price at a minimum should be at least the same but I would suggest much lower. Apple has provided publishers with a fantastic opportunity to revive their flagging sales but it looks like your destined to destroy yourselves by being greedy and short sighted. You would do well do take a leaf out of eBooks and lower your prices to drive an uptake from consumers. In the meantime, I'll stick to the physical version thank you..Version: 2.2

UselessWtf is this ?.Version: 2.2

Not a free app.Ah! I get it, all the nice little covers are free to put in your nice new bookcase. But if you want to actually read anything you have to subscribe $$. All the mags seem to be the same. Too expensive for me. My little bookshelves will stay empty..Version: 2.2

Just an adSimply an ad to buy subscription.Version: 2.2

Bait and switchDon't get it, it is not free..Version: 2.2

Lies and deception. Men's Fitness are not freeLies and deception. Men's Fitness are not free.Version: 2.2

Deceitful. Issues cost retail priceDeceitful. Issues cost retail price after download of free app.Version: 2.2

Very misleading...horrible!This app says it is free until you download it and then you have to pay over $40 for a year subscription or pay around $5 for the single issue. This is all digital should be much much cheaper! I would almost call this app a scam..Version: 2.2

No Reason to be so over pricedI get a hard copy of Men's Health for $15 a year. Why would I pay $42 for a year of a digital subscription. That better be a miss type and should be $12..Version: 2.2

Force closingBought an issue during the iOS beta. Changed to the official release of its and now it force closes when I try to open the issue!.Version: 2.2

Rubbish appUsed to work, but now it crashes every time I try to open a purchased issue. Even after upgrading to the new iPad, and with new iOS versions etc. Now I have resorted to downloading the issues in PDF format from the web and loading it to iBooks. Much better that way! No more crashes..Version: 2.5.1

Free appThe app is free but the content is not. Very poor way to get customer's to download an app..Version: 2.2

BrutalWay too expensive..Version: 2.2

Don't waste your timeNot a free issue, just takes you to a subscription screen..Version: 2.2

Top app??Why are these magazine apps top free apps? Apple is really slipping here.Version: 2.2

Too expensiveYou are joking with those prices right?.Version: 2.2

Awful - lies about being freeSays its free... When you finally download it, it asks you to buy a subscription... Nice.Version: 2.2

Misleading, NOT freeNot a real app unless you subscribe. Don't bother with this app..Version: 2.2

Poor visual quality of the wordsConsidering the magazine is written on a computer the words a slightly blured and are difficult to read and causes headaches, this is made even worse when you zoom in. Wired magazine doesn't do this so its lazyness on the publishers part it looks like a poor quality scan. The ipad has amazing display quality so there is no excuse there, its annoying because i work away on rigs and this is the only way I can get the mags but I wont in future as there almost unreadable I hope this gets squared away for the next issues then I might be a customer again.Version: 2.2

Please, consider the following...Wanted to offer you some free" advice, unlike this app. You cannot expect to get away with charging full issue prices for iDevices. It's not going to happen, give it up already. It's almost ignorant, no wait, in fact it is, to think the new generation of consumers would even consider costs equivalent to something that's tangible. It's an archaic way of thought that needs to stop - a plague to the industry - time to go extinct. Oh, by the way, I can hop on most sites, just like yours, use iOS 5's reader function, and enjoy the same, free!.Version: 2.2

I agree with why this should not be In the free sectionI am not affiliated with this magazine but they could knock off a couple of bucks but they still have to pay everyone that writes the articles construct the lay outs and pay huge wages to the high ups that don't really ever do anything. So they have a bottom line to meet..Version: 2.2

No contentMaybe a free issue would be smart..Version: 2.2

It's just a PDF!Finally managed to get my first issue to download and display properly, and was very disappointed. No background downloading? App has to stay open. No incremental downloads? If your connection fails, the download fails. Start again. No links? Each issue is just a PDF. No links to take you to other pages or articles. Very poor effort when compared to many other digital magazines available..Version: 2.2.6

Not worth it.I downloaded this and subscribed online to Print and Digital… and it doesn't count. --- Which would have been half the price of the year subscription in this app..Version: 2.2

Just disgustingNothing more to say.Version: 2.2

FREE IS FREEFREE IS FREE. It is not $4.99. It is $42.99. If you are NOT offering a FREE product. Don't say FREE....get it?.Version: 2.2

Men’s FitnessDownloaded the new app and lost 3 years worth of mags I’ve bought. Told by this lot I need to contact the previous publisher it’s not their problem.. absolutely useless I’ll never buy any of their titles again.Version: 6.0.6

I AGREE WITH EVERY COMMENT!! GOTTA BE KIDDING!Not even one issue Free to actually see if the app/magazine is worth while to start with! ...and the same price as a hard copy! You need to get some smart marketing folks back at the office! Best of luck regaining confidence from everyone on here. JM.Version: 2.2

PitifulJust terrible.Version: 2.2

Free is a misnomerLike ALL of these newsstand apps, you have to pay for a full price subscription. Get this out of the "free" section.Version: 2.2

No free content.Just a free icon..Version: 2.2

Free = Five DollarsThanks for wasting my time, Newstand..Version: 2.2

Lame free app is lameMisleading and deceiving. Not free at all. Disgusting..Version: 2.2

Don't BotherIt's not even free. No point..Version: 2.2

Rip offNot gonna pay that much!.Version: 2.2

Same issue - unable to download purchasesSame issue as everyone else. To be fair they have responded to my emails promptly, but I think the original app should be put back on the App Store until they've rectified the download issue with the updated app. It's a shame cuz it looks good but is fundamentally unusable at the mo.Version: 4.0

Outrageous con!Just don't get it! As a regular reader of this mag I had high hopes for his app. Who in their right mind would pay 99p more for a digital copy that buying a paper copy? I always thought that the digital age resulted in lower overheads and reduced prices but maybe I'm mistaken. Don't expect it to be free but I agree with others, £2.99 would seem much more reasonable. Will never actually download a copy of this mag. Shame!.Version: 2.2

False advertisingIt's like saying ..here is a free car for you but they give you only the keys .... Don't bother is there a way to give no star at all ?.Version: 2.2

Come OnEnough of the "FREE" statement. How about a little integrity..Version: 2.2

Appalling - where are my Magbooks?Got to gym two days ago ready to carry on with the workout in one of the Magbooks bought on this app's earlier version only to find they had all disappeared. I had quite a few such titles that I had worked through and had great results which encouraged me to buy others as each was good value. Emailed the publisher and app owner and still have not been given any reason for this or commitment to restore access. Rubbish!.Version: 5.0.0

Dreadful, less content and lost previous purchasesThe move from PDF to HTML style had been a disaster with content being cut down to fit the medium and helpful photos and diagrams being replaced with poor quality videos. Worse the lost many of my previous purchases and the support service provides nothing but polite platitudes. So I've given up cancelled subscription and will not touch Dennis Publishing again..Version: 4.0.1

Not freeYou have to buy subscription to read..Version: 2.2

Don't expect free. And don't complain that it isn't free. Newsstand is a new concept and nearly all magazines and papers are going to charge either per year or per issue. Read the full description before you download. It says so. Good magazine..Version: 2.2

Waste of timeNot even first edition is free.Version: 2.2

Junk, it would not download properly. It locked up while ii was trying to download the app. JunkJunk.Version: 2.4.3

No thanksIt's not free. Waste of time at that price..Version: 2.2

TrickedSaw it was free and got excited so I downloaded it. Than realized it's just to allow you to than buy issues..Version: 2.2

Not a good start to the news stand appFalse advertising and to much money !.Version: 2.2

Don't bother..It's not free. Misleading. Don't bother..Version: 2.2

Mag books disappearedLike everyone else leaving bad reviews I too have had my collection of Mag Books deleted. I emailed Men’s Fitness a few weeks and they replied saying that they "are aware that the special issues are currently available within the app, however the should be made available within the app shortly.” Still no sign of these, and I mentioned they should compensate users like me perhaps with a free copy of the current issue which would go a long way to rectifying their mistake, but I didn’t hear back on that. Even once the Mag Books have reappeared, I don’t know if I will be buying anymore. I hope the option is to download the Mag Books into iBooks or my desktop as PDFs so if they remove them again, they aren’t lost for good..Version: 5.0.0

No sample issue? No free sample issue? and i can buy the REAL magazine or subscribe to the real magazine for cheaper which is much better to read in my opinion anyways..Version: 2.2

None of it is free.Bogus. Dont bother..Version: 2.2

Not free!!!The actual mag may be good, it says free then wants money before you can actually get it. I wasn't expecting an entire mag, maybe a sample, after all it said FREE!.Version: 2.2

Wow!Thats b.s. You shouldnt advertise its free if its not!! I wouldnt even give it a star.. But i had too!.Version: 2.2

Poor serviceWith the latest update, all of my bookmarks in previous issues were deleted. That should never have been allowed to happen!.Version: 7.0.47

Free?In no way shape or form is this app 'free' reallly disapointed in you mens fitness magazine for pulling this kind of deception..Version: 2.2

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worseWhat do we pay for here?! There is no in mag navigation, no zooming to content. To make the experience better than just buying a magazine off the shelf you need to be able to navigate pages easily, I.e like before you updated the app, with thumbnails or page numbers, or a contents reference system. Then you need to be able to zoom to content. Like when you use any web browser on a mobile device, you double tap an area of text and the screen zooms to fit the width. Come on developers....Version: 4.0.1

Can no longer download purchasesUpdate to previous review: No longer able to download issues that I have purchased and an email to mens fitness customer services resulted in being told that I must contact iTunes regarding a refund for purchases. Why have them as a contact in that case? I was also offered no alternative or advice in whom to contact regarding planned updates. Terrible service. Avoid this app. Considering the number of scathing reviews on previous versions of this app i have found this latest update to be a pleasant surprise. Easy to navigate, ability to buy single issues or subscribe,no problems buying and downloading issues and easy to read those issues once downloaded. Plus you can save articles you like in pre-listed categories and have your own page in app to access them. Not sure what else you could desire from it. Plus content is more sensible and intelligent than a lot of health and fitness magazines on offer. Well done..Version: 4.1

Bugs? The magazine is generally good and gimmick free (unlike stuff mag which seems to add complexity for the sake of it). However, it keeps losing my downloaded issues when I know I need off-line access (on a plane eg). This is infuriating and seems loosely connected with going into flight mode..Version: 2.5.1

Very misleadingJust another marketing scheme to try and make you purchase an expensive subscription...Version: 2.2

U craziesWho the hell will pay that much for subscription I can get this 15 bucks a year.Version: 2.2

Misleading!!Everyone knows that these magazines are not free, but this was very misleading giving off the idea that this single issue was free. Then in return hopefully gaining business. But putting a free app and nothing is free at all is disturbing and this should be removed.Version: 2.2

Not freeNo free content..Version: 2.2

Free?Not free at all!!!! Don't bother..Version: 2.2

Don't buyNewsstand is aweful.Version: 2.2

Stupid Jews!Nothing is free.Version: 2.2

Too expensiveThese digital mags really shouldnt cost more than their real paper counterparts...it just doesn't make sense....Version: 2.2

What a jokeThey shouldn't be allowed to list it as free, as it's most certainly not. Why would I spend $49 bucks when over 80% of each issue is stupid ads. Fail..Version: 2.2

Stop smoking weed...it makes for crazy ideas! These people must be under the influence....it's the only thing I can think of that would make someone think that I'd pay that much for a years subscription. Bottom line....don't waste your money..Version: 2.2

Over priced!!!I understand you have to pay per magazine or subscribe but, $4.99 per issue or $42.99 for one year. There's no ink involved, no transportation cost to a store, no trees to kill! I will never buy one of these magazines at this cost. 😠.Version: 2.2

Ads ads adsStraight pdf like conversion, no interactivity at all, (even good food magazine manages that!) masses of ads.... Like 12 of tyres cars and aftershave pages to get to contents? And buy a copy at 4 quid or buy a year. Wow. You went all out on subscription incentive marketing eh? Needs a lot of work. Fitness & Health mags exact same prob..Version: 2.2.6

Needs developmentLove the idea of Newstand and delivering newspapers/magazines to the iPhone. I'd happily pay £3 per issue. But the quality of the Pixelmags offering isn't great: Resolution is poor unless you zoom in; I had to reinstall and restore purchases (download failed first time); My customer service experience was abysmal - used the Feedback button, just received a reply along lines of "thanks for trying the feedback feature, but we've closed your query." No help whatsoever - thankfully I sorted out the issue myself, eventually. Otherwise found this OK. Not sure I'll buy more issues from this vendor unless I see some improvements..Version: 2.2

Really??!!reallllly??!!!This newsstand needs to be revamped……the 'app' is free…..an icon……nutting' else……come on Apple……..really??.Version: 2.2

67% price riseThe magazine is ok if not a little repetitive at times, £2.99 was about right for me, now and again, but the 67% price rise will not make me buy again at £4.99. Are you sure you will increase your sale with such a high price?.Version: 2.2

RIP OFFDo not download!!! It's not FREE!!! Very misleading!!!.Version: 2.2

Just an adNo content, just a link to buy $5 issues..Version: 2.2

RidiculousWow free to have the icon in the newsstand. I will never subscribe to your magazine nor will I continue to purchase the print version. Unless you give your mag free you have Lost a reader for good..Version: 2.2

SteroidsThe models in the ads in this magazine are mostly on steroids. That is very frustrating living in America and being sold products that claim to make you look like some one who takes steroids when the only thing that can make you look that big and that ripped is steroids, a good doctor, and a very intense training program. These ads should be as illegal as the steroids are. This magazine is garbage for using those ads. I would not recommend you buy it. All the stories reiterate each other and the writing is used to direct you to the ads. A terrible magazine.Version: 2.2
