✓ UsefulTried this for listening to Open University pdfs while driving or in the gym. Of all the text to speech readers available, ive found this to be the most useable for this purpose hence ive given it 4 out of 5. Have found it works decently with large areas of text, but will agonisingly work its way through tables rather than skip them. Its most annoying features are that it will not pronounce the letter 'f' alongside other consonants, and often spells out 'the' as T, H, E. However, balancing these against its ability to read very long documents - with only the occasional freeze- with quite bearable clarity, its worth it for the gain in study time..Version: 1.1

✓ ConvenienceI really like that I can listen to a report while getting dressed or driving to a meeting. When trying to put something to memory I can turn up the speed and play it several times. It's like my brain on crack. I love it. Only thing.. The speaker is not as clear as the speaker Apple uses for the speak option. Still very good but if it was the same voice I would be better. They must not have the rights to use it. The voice can sound a little electronic at times. Also moving the mouse or red box can be annoying. The only thing that could make it better is the ability to touch a place on a page instead of having to start from the very top. ✓ Wonderful app!!!I bought the paid app. Well, after it was working fine, one day I couldn't get it to play sound because the physical mute button was on, bit I didn't know that was the problem, since Pandora was working, and I thought that button only controlled the ringer and text sounds, but it actually also controls the sound on this PDF ebook reader. Their technical support team got back to my inquiry same day to help me fix it so it would work again! How cool is that! Thanks for creating this app. I love it!!! True the free version will not play your own books unless you pay $5 for a voice but the thing is, you can try it out with their pre-installed books (like Ths US Constitution) and see if its worth buying. ✓ Great appLove this app, voice takes a little getting used to, and it occasionally does odd things, mispronounces, "comma", "dash", rereads titles and page numbers at the top of the page. Some of it might be my using it as an audio book... But for 5$ nothing I've found in the App Store comes close. I use this app to read just about everything, great for getting through large amounts of information. Does less well at poetry, dramatic readings, and anything technical with a lot of diagrams. ✓ Not too badWill have to disagree with some of the bad reviews on here Yes it's not free, I paid for the uk English voice I have a lot of very large pdfs to read with no time to read them . So thought I'd try this so I could listen to them in the car. I would of expected a much more robotic voice than it actually is. Sounds half way between normal and robotic but definitely useable and understandable. I set it to 200 words per minute. Only a couple of annoying points , as it reads bullet points as "bullet" and doesn't like abbreviations. But in fairness they aren't words anyway so what do you expect. It would be good if you could add a manual feature where you can highlight areas you don't want it to read , like the header and footer, or the index pages, etc so it can jump straight into the content. Other than that I don't regret paying for this , as I did find there aren't many products of this nature on the market that are any good . There is room for improvement but it's good enough to warrant the cost.Version: 2.0.1

✓ At Last!This version addresses one of the biggest problems I had with this otherwise wonderful app. Now you are able to replace annoying readings of punctuation with silence. For example '•' was pronounced 'Small Bullet'. That was really annoying when you might be listening to a Technical PDF with lots of bullet points. ✓ It needs to stop auto lock and the pages accidentally turn to easily.It could do with overriding the auto lock like many other applications do. Being able to set a higher words per min than 240 would be nice. It is too easy to accidentally turn a page when selecting text. Adding bookmarks would be great. ✓ Pretty good application for the price...This is a pretty good application for the price. Okay, it does persist in producing some interesting renderings; and for a Scotsman the English UK voice I find difficult to take seriously. For the iPad user such as myself, I have to adjust the sleep settings so that the flow won't be cutting out every two minutes. ✓ Functional friendly, emotionally dullThis Reeder seems to be user-friendly and not bad to navigate. It is not quite like listening to an audiobook, mainly because of the lack of the touch of human inflection. There are occasional reading errors when it comes to the odd words in the English language that don't translate well via computer but for the value of the product, it can be overlooked. ✓ ExcellentI use this for academic journal articles to save time/multitask when I need to read but am sort of time or my eyes are too tired to read. for English speakers there is a choice of British and North American readers and the opportunity to vary reading speeds. I recently changed my iPad and the transfer was seamless. Recommended to part time students in business who also need to read a fair amount and maybe have to travel around a lot and want to be able to listen to key texts whilst waiting in airports or driving a distance and want to take advantage of the time. ✓ My best app ever!This is my best app ever. I'm in the process of writing a (very long) book so I decided to use this app to help in the editing. I made each chapter into a PDF so the app could read it back to me. I found this was a far better way of picking out the errors than just reading it myself. Works brilliantly! Only one tiny problem... my book is about the ego and some of the voices pronounce it 'eggo'. Thankfully, the male American voice gets it right. :-) I found their customer services people to be excellent, responding quickly and efficiently to any queries I have had. ✓ Pretty goodWorks quite well. Has problems with scientific papers, ligatures and kerning. In scientific journal papers it reads everything including equations and journal metadata. This is quite distracting as it does not make any sense. Additionally, letters that are grouped together as in kerning are skipped. For example field is read as eld. Otherwise it works on 9 out of 10 papers..Version: 1.2

I read plenty journal articles so this app is very helpful and convenient. Also, before I buy any book, I search online for a PDF version of that book. Oftentimes, it's available. So now I have some good books inside this app too! All in all you can't go wrong with this app. It reads accurately and even seems to pause taking a breath so the reading sounds quite natural. ✓ Very Good AppThis is my primary app for reading PDFs for papers I have to read for school. It generally works well for most text with some odd pronunciations here and there. It does poorly on mathematical equations, but if the app does not know how to parse the equation so that it would read it in a mathematically logical with words that would help give context when the equation is not visible rather than just reading characters and symbols this would be a wonderful app. Also reading data in tables in a more natural manner would help a lot..Version: 1.9

✓ Amazing Great App!!!Total from the heart truthful review. I am a very slow reader and this app helps me so much. I use it to read me documents, text book chapters for my classes, and books. I am able to get through material fast and retain the information! There is one down side is that the app is free but if you want it to read it to you, you have to buy the voice. BUT IT IS WELL WORTH IT!!! I have had this app for about to years now and it is great! It has help me so much in college! I can clean or do what ever while it reads to me and it has help me with my grades because I am able to retain the information. You can read along so you hear it and see it so it will be ingrained in your mind better even if it is horribly dry information. ✓ Good app, does what it says on the tinA few points to clear up... 1) ok, it says free, and then you have to buy a language pack. However, It does say in the description that its a sample. If they didn't let you download the app free, you wouldn't be able to test it before you decide to buy a language pack. 2) you CAN test the app before you buy if you select the American voice and use the sample texts provided. I was a bit annoyed that I couldn't sample the English voice, but it is an American app so fair enough I guess.... 3) it costs $4.99 for a language pack, which is £2.99. Not £4.99. ✓ Great reader!It has been wonderful to get my college reading in while getting other things done around the house!! I am an Auditory learner so this has been very useful tool. Otherwise my roommates would find me asleep in by books with print on my face. Yes the voice is dull but it has been worth it. Certain abbreviations may be misrepresented such at "street" instead of "saint" for "St." but again worth it. It keeps your place even when switching between books, has a cursor to start in a specific spot, adjustable speed, find a word in the document. ✓ Best text to speach app out thereI have dyslexia, and I am study for my MBA. Most of my course books are now provided as PDF files, this is the first app that will read the book as it is and not try to convert it to a page of unformatted text. I can therefore use the models, charts and table as the text is read to me. I have had a few issues with some words, but the support has been excellent and they have gone out of their way to ensure all the books make sense, word wise anyway; I have to get my head round the models!.Version: 1.1

I purchased the UK voice, which has a good sound, it's nice change from the built in, you get male and female, and can change speed via words-per-minute. I like that I can listen in the background while playing cards, or even have the screen switched off. It does have a tendency to quit once about a minute in to reading when I have it open in the background, but it's not the only app I have that does this, so maybe a ios problem or just my ipad. Anyway, I would recommend to anyone who finds reading text on screens hard on their eyes and works with PDFs..Version: 2.0.1
✓ It works good, given where OCR and voice technology currently isI gave this app 4 stars, but if this type of technology was more advanced, then I probably would've given it a three. I like the voice it's easy to listen to and it doesn't sound very digital at all. However, it stops and then skips sometimes in the middle of the reading/ text. So you always have to pay attention while you're being read to, so no listening in the car or jogging, as it will be interrupted. I wish there was a way to instantly stop the reading, rather then having to tap first to wait for the pause button to appear. And sometime when I do touch the screen, then it moves to the next page and screws up the flow and I gotta find where I left off which is pretty annoying. (But when everything flows, it's a really good app.)I do like how you can use the little box to navigate through the text and how you can speed up or slow it down with precision. Adding and deleting files is super easy. For $4.99 it's an ok deal. ✓ Almost thereWorks great for PDFs that are a single column of text vertically oriented to the page. Smooth continuous reading you can pause and continue. It does not work for text with any other orientation - this is so sad because it works so well when it does work. Please fix this! Also, would be great to be able to insert notes and highlights. It is worth it and an excellent addition to assimilating research papers in different languages when you are in the mood for hearing the spoken word. I would very much like to hear a Serbian voice added as there is a great demand in Serbia for this as a pedagogic tool. A male voice in Brazilian and Portuguese would also be very welcomed.
