✓ Major bug!The only cross platform walkie talkie for blackberry to iPhone that i know of but zello has a major bug between iPhone 5 and blackberry. All the voice messages which I receive are cut off short on my iphone 5 and most of the time it misses a sentence in the middle of them talking like it stops recording and then starts again! So frustrating! Might switch to whatsapp voice notes..Version: 2.3
✓ Bring back channel browse.Not sure what happened. It’s been a good few years since I used this app. Used to be able to view/browse/explore new or different channels. Now I need to know a name of a channel to find it. So if your new and don’t know any other channels, what exactly do you search for? That limits you to only search for known channels that you are advised of by friends or families. It’s time consuming and frustrating to put in keywords to only find one or two channels so you try other words to see what else may pop up..Version: 5.9.1

✓ Non existent customer serviceZello wants you to get their paid service. Nothing wrong with that, except they deliberately refuse to provide support for the free app, all you have is the online faqs. I was on the phone today with a rep asking for help using group conversations. A simple question, after which I’d consider the paid version for our not for profit. I need to be able to compare features in the free vs paid before making a decision. Was flat out told that any q’s for the free app can’t be answered, support will only be offered for and if you sign up for the paid service. Guess what - was going to, but won’t be doing so now. Says a lot about a company they’re not willing to stand behind and offer FULL support to users for their product..Version: 4.08
✓ A perfect app ruined by the developersZello at one point was huge and still has the ability to be a fantastic app. However, the removal of trending menus to easily identify channels which are live and active is no longer a option. Each and every channel has nobody active, it’s too difficult to work out how to find exciting groups and you have to use key words which for a new user you would now. This boils down to the fact you set up a channel and unless you can physically bring people to your group from another app or real life, new users on Zello will find it near impossible to find you. The app is now just a shell to what it once was. Trying to get new people to join channels is to difficult. So now you have channels which are no longer active. The interface & options on Zello is complicated for new users with the lack of option to live video stream is still not available. I feel the developers are reluctant to make any changes and sadly they are not moving along with the times, they are known to ignore advice and feedback. I cannot see the app moving forward until new fresh developers or owners take over..Version: 4.90

✓ Does not stream audio over Bluetooth.It does not stream audio over Bluetooth. No matter what settings I set in the app it refuses to play back over Bluetooth. If I have to listen to voice messages over the iPhones speaker I would not be able to hear it clearly. I am using a Bluetooth enabled hearing aid. It should act similar to how air pods works (I could be wrong on this). If it’s streamed over Bluetooth I should be able to use ios16s live caption feature and also hear it 2-3x more clearly directly thru the hearing aid. Can I be directed on how to get this app to play audio messages over Bluetooth only? Whenever I tried to use the echo test bot it turns red while recording then it turns green like it maybe sending audio back but I heard nothing. I tried turning it up and it does sound faint prob because it coming in over the iPhones built in speaker which I don’t want..Version: 5.12.0

✓ 5.19.1 - Please FixWith the latest 5.19.1 update for iPhone, Zello now takes over my entire phone, which beeps every time I switch in and out of the app, has a constant blue banner in the upper left corner AND now the entire Lock Screen is Zello and can no longer single swipe to unlock. The Zello app now requires a swipe before the swipe to unlock. It is very annoying, please please fix!!! **Update: Often times since yesterday, the audio just STOPS completely and is recorded as missed messages, even though status is set to available. ✓ You destroyed this app.As a early user this app used to be fun and inviting with a lobby of rooms to choose from to pick common interests.. now it’s all closed and everything is only with invitation and it’s terrible... you utterly destroyed this app’s capabilities by listening to crybabies who have no business on the internet anyways.. users who couldn’t handle random strangers coming into their rooms and couldn’t contain themselves when it came to banning people who where “too much” for them.. so you took away people’s ability to find open rooms? ✓ Good but needs workI’ve been testing then using Zello for my search and rescue team for over 8 months now. I also use a Motorola XTS-5000 and a sitecast RF Box along with computer to patch our trunked 800mhz radio system to our Zello channels. I love the app and have tweaked the gateway to provide amazing audio and reliability in both directions. My only issue is this. Sometimes instead of passing audio in real time, the app stops passing audio and starts to store it on the phone. Then I have to go back and replay the audio. In our business this could be dangerous for the user. We won’t use it for mission critical ops without our users being trained on the passing audio issue. I hope this address at some point. ✓ Gone south! :((This app was once top of its game - crisp, user-friendly and reliable. Recently something has changed, rendering it useless when using other apps in the foreground, such as vital navigation software. As soon as the PTT is depressed, those other apps are lost. ✓ ❓Why bother ❓Haven’t had the chance to try this app, hence the low score, combined with the following: I fail to see how this can be any better than using any other form of voice over IP methods or apps. Why use an app as an old fashioned two-way radio when one can always call directly, either via normal mobile phone calls, or other internet based calling systems? Perhaps if there were global or local ‘channels’ to listen to, and possibly participate in, I could see it as an improvement over the old ways of IRC, but they don’t exist. Assuming the app gets used, are calls encrypted end-to-end? If not, then that would be another question to put in the ‘why use it’ column. If I were in the field, or within a premises, why would I use this rather than basic 2-way radios/walkie-talkies (assuming I don’t just call)? Obviously I seem to have more questions pertaining to why one would choose to use this app, when there are already various alternatives available. Having just written this, I may fire-up an IRC app, where I can at least peruse public channels, from which one-to-one communications can be established. There seem to be a number of positive reviews, so it must work for certain people in certain situations. I just can’t see a reason to even try. 🤔.Version: 4.107.0

✓ Channel search removedI response to pressure from “media” organisation, Zello removed channel search. I gather this was to make it hard for people to find militia groups. That’s all well and good in theory, but will make no difference to these groups, who can exchange channel details in person. Meanwhile everyone else can no longer find channels of interest. ✓ Somethings changed, and it ain’t good :(This app has gone from one of the coolest and most useful apps I have so almost completely unusable. -In the car (and only on Zello), it randomly switches between the iPhone and the car BT system. When talking I have absolutely no idea if I’m talking to the phone or the car speakerphone. And it will likely change the next time I press the button, but maybe not -Likewise with the receive.. the person I’m talking to may appear on the phone or the car. It’s totally random -MOST IF THE TIME now I get the ‘not available’ beep, meaning the person I was talking to is not available, but again that’s a random crap shoot.. sometimes that’s real, and others they answer me back as normal. Totally random.. These are recent developments over the last few months, and the people I talk to on Zello are all reporting similar issues back. I sent a note regarding all of the above to the Zello Support address and received no response, so I’ll try here since it appears someone actually monitors these comments. ✓ Needless changesThis may seem trivial but for no apparent reason the dev changed the logo/icon which now doesn't have the "Z" as a part of it. The new icon makes no sense, not quickly drawing the eye to Zello, because it is just an abstract design, again making no sense and changed for no good reason other than for the sake of change itself. And that is never a good, well-founded, valid reason for doing anything. Just go back to the previous, attractive icon and leave well enough alone. I have skipped the latest update, with the new icon, hoping you will change it back before I update. Otherwise, it's a good, useful app which comes in handy sometimes. ✓ Hurricane Ian 2022, I am disappointed I youLet me just start off by saying that it does and does not work. I mean by this is that I had family in Kissimmee that have this app and we were communicating just fine. Mind you let me say that my family Kissimmee during the hurricane did that really suffer much, they didn’t lose power or water. On the other hand, me being in Davenport Haines city region, I ended up losing power for a couple of days. Even though I did not have power, it worked with my family in Kissimmee. I also have my husband in North Fort Myers. He ended up losing power water and a car due to the storm over there. It was way worse. He also had this app before he lost his power and cell service. The app was working fine. After he lost his cell service, it didn’t work at all. I had no way to communicate with him. ✓ Zello is a very raw “product”It always amazes me how frequently and how radically they change things up in the app. There is never a version without some serious bugs and it feels almost as if the free version of the app is just a sandbox for devs. They always change something but never announce any changes, like “oops channel search is no longer an option and by the way we ditched ratings too... but we added a super-useful (no) search bar right above the user list”. Guys come on, in the age of the Clubhouse and Telegram voice chats, your loyal user base deserves some consistency. Figure things out once and for all and implement some real features. Instead it tends to freeze, then crash requiring a relaunch. ✓ Used to be completely accessible with VoiceOver, isn't so much anymore.Is a good app. But its ridiculous that you'd decrease accessibility with VoiceOver. I'm having trouble getting out of certain screens. One of for example, when I click navigation menu and select one of the screens from there, I can't get out using voiceover without force closing the app from the app switcher and opening it back up again. Same for the screen to send an alert message to someone. I can't click cancel. And the send button on that screen isn't labeled for voiceover anymore. It doesn't make any sense. ✓ Needs workThey need to do a better job really /pushing/ the fact that you need WiFi. Everyone who told me about this app said its perfect for when the power goes out and cellphone towers are down and you can’t communicate with the outside world. That is when WiFi is down so uhhhh yeah. Very frustrating. I was just in Hurricane Florence and then Hurricane Matthew. Florence I thought it was just a glitch but then it also didn’t work during Michael so I just am very upset because that’s when I need it most 🙃 and when you click help, instead of taking you to like an FAQ page or something, it takes you to a website, which also needs internet 🙃 But outside of internet issues, the app is great. ✓ Tremendously uselessSuch a huge letdown. only downloaded this app because people mept complaining about the glitches on Voxer. well, i'll take my chances. this zello app says messages are "saved" in history, but you can't actually see or listen to any of them, it only tells you the total data size of the saved messages. it's pointless to waste space "saving" messages that can't be read. though there's no need for me to complain about that since i haven't been able to actually receive any messages sent to me. So, yes, this app was a waste of my time and phone memory..Version: 4.29
