Termius: Terminal & SSH client for Negative User Reviews

$16 a month...Really ?I find it absolutely disgusting that even small minor apps like these on the Apple environment see fit to ROB US BLINDLY with these ridiculously inflated prices...Disgusting.Version: 4.6.8

Crashes instantly on JB devices nowUsed to work great, now doesn’t get anywhere without crashing. iSH is a much better alternative now.Version: 4.14.0

Pricing model ransoms basic featuresThis app was great during the trial period. My favorite feature was that port forwarding didn’t time out after a few minutes, like it does for so many other apps. For two weeks, I was truly able to use my iPad Pro as a mobile workstation, working on Jupyter notebooks hosted on my desktop at work. Then the free trial expired, and port forwarding sessions began to die in the background after just a minute or two. This breaks the functionality of the app for me, rendering it basically useless. I understand why some of Termius’s advanced features can justifiably be sold as part of a subscription, but the way their pricing is currently structured, the developer gives you a taste of a working app for two weeks and then tries to charge you $100 to not intentionally break the app for one year. I refuse to pay anyone a subscription to keep them from breaking their own product. Charge me $20 up front and I’d be happy to pay. As it stands, I’ll go back to hauling my laptop around before I give this extortionist developer a cent of my money..Version: 4.4.0

Insane pricing plan$135 a year for access to sftp? Are you joking? I'd pay $10 maybe even $20 ONCE for access to all premium features forever. All this stuff is free on desktop and in other apps stop trying to scam people..Version: 4.6.7

Nice terminal, some privacy reservationsIt's a nice app with some well-made features. But there doesn't seem to be a way to upgrade to the pro version without signing up for their sync service, which slurps up all your settings and likely your keys. What are they doing with this information? How is it protected? No thanks. I'd rather use a lessor tool and keep my keys and information off some unknown cloud server..Version: 4.1.0

A once good ssh client marred by terrible client supportA once good ssh client marred by terrible client support. The overall app is great until you hit a bug, which stops the ssh session - A nightmare when in the middle of a outage or priority ticket. The Terminus support team have consistently proven unwilling to investigate or solve any bugs with Terminus. This is a shame because this app is an excellent ssh client, but bugs and lack of support make it unsuitable for any professional or corporate use..Version: 4.26.5

CrashThe app just keeps on crashing Also got an error says private key is not selected that I have never seen before in the old version.Version: 4.1.0

Nice but…I use this app almost every day but the latest update seems to have removed the ability to use the ctrl, tab etc keys, so ctrl+C doesn’t work, tab autocomplete no longer works. Please can you fix it. Very prompt response from the devs and the issue is fixed. Still way to expensive for a subscription service..Version: 4.10.2

App opens to a blank screenI had given a 5-star review for this app, however after trying to use it a few days ago the app just opens to a blank screen. No buttons, no navigating away from the screen, nothing. I’ve tried to open the app a few times since then and all I get is that blank screen. This was one of the apps that I used daily, it’s frustrating that I need to find a terminal app that I’m just as pleased as I used to be with this one..Version: 4.26.1

TestC’est bien se jouet pour jouer.Version: 4.26.0

Free Version Getting Less ConvenientI’ve used the free version for years and it is a convenient very stable app. However the free version is becoming steadily more restrictive. Now you need to have an account and give away your email just for the free version and you can no longer save host login details - just a pointless annoying restriction. The cost of buying it is hair raising and it’s a monthly subscription for ever! Much much more than Corel, Adobe etc. charge for hugely more complex applications. There is no way it is even close in value to the monthly cost to me for the kind of use I make of it - it’s easier to just grab the laptop where it’s all free to use, and most of the features aren’t of the least interest - just SSH for my uses. I would happily pay a reasonable one off fee to buy the app but I’d rather do without than subscribe at these rates..Version: 4.6.8

Keeps hangingFound it unintuitive to navigate. Common gestures are reassigned leading to unintended input. App kept hanging, gave up and used a laptop..Version: 2.2.4

All saved connections goneAfter an update all the connections are gone even though known_hosts file is still there. Have to re-enter everything again.Version: 4.13.8

Needs an account to use ?Huh? This is the first utility that asked me to "create an account" just to ssh in my own network. What do you want to track with that account ?.Version: 4.16.0

Mostly goodBeen using it for almost 2 years now, suddenly within the last month or so I’m unable to scroll while using screen. In some cases attempting to scroll causes multiple issues with garbage being entered into the terminal. In one case simply rotating(or changing the size of the app) my iPad caused this as well. All of this started after trying to load it one day and it crashed, even for quitting and restarting didn’t fix the crashing. I uninstalled and reinstalled. After doing this the keep alive stopped working and I’m unable to locate the option anymore. It use to use GPS to keep the terminal alive in the background. Now 10-20 secs after leaving, iOS sleeps the app and I lose everything I was working on, unless I’m in a screen, which now has the above mentioned issues..Version: 4.11.4

No longer wokingLive this app vety much. but the last upgrade broke everything 🙄.Version: 4.11.3

Too expensiveWorks great but paywalls a basic feature such as syncing hosts and credentials between two devices behind a $120 USD yearly fee. If it were once off, I’d pay; yearly is too expensive..Version: 4.26.1

Ferociously badFails at simple SSH (working on the same tablet with Reflection) but of course it wants you to log in and share all your private information. Uninstalled..Version: 4.11.9

Way too expensive! It’s a great SSH terminal, however the pricing is outrageous. I don’t mind paying for a good app to support the developers, however an annual subscription for this kind of app is unwarranted and it’s way over priced. To put this in comparison, Office 365 is cheaper (monthly and annually) and far more advanced than this..Version: 4.6.2

Blank Screen and CrashThis app used to be great, now it blank screens and eventually crashes, rendering it unusable.Version: 4.26.1

Used to be a decent ssh client£7.50/month for a terminal app is absolutely hilarious while we’re in a cost of living crisis. Which is a shame because I used to love this app. I’d pay £5 one off for this but a subscription for a terminal app is laughable. Sad I’ll be uninstalling and using a different app..Version: 4.21.1

Excellent App with Frequent Major ProblemTermius is really well done and a joy to use. The amount of customizability that it offers is very impressive and I found it very easy to great around the application and use it the way I wanted to. However, every 5 times or so that I open the application it will just load to a completely blank screen and nothing at all will be displayed. It’s frustrating because I really want to love this app but the level of unreliability makes it impossible for me to rely on it in any production / critical capacity. Others don’t seem to report this issue so it might not be something that happens across the board and hopefully it’ll be resolved in an update..Version: 4.1.1

Used to be goodNow it makes you sign into google and other unnecessary things. I just want a simple SSH app!.Version: 4.11.8

How much?! For a SSH client? Get real...I use SSH clients to control a number of Raspberry Pi’s at home and I normally use WebSSH because it’s free and allows me to use TouchID to access my servers. I do like Termius, but I found it really expensive if you wanted to synchronise between devices as well as o use TouchID. It’s ridiculous! I also felt duped into signing up for the trial as it says to create an account to sync devices, but it doesn’t say until after that this is a Premium only feature. I then logged out after I saw the price for Premium and now all my servers are gone! So basically synchronising and signing up for a trial means all my servers have disappeared when I logged out! What a joke! How about giving the option to store servers locally like they were before? Thankfully all my servers are in WebSSH, which is what I’ll stick to now, but what a farce. Expensive and it deleted all my servers when logging out. Shame really as it did work well when I used it. Maybe if I could pay for a one off unlock, I’d consider but £55 ish per year to use a SSH client? No chance!.Version: 4.0.7

Couldn’t paste command properlyHad been having same problem with all previous versions and latest. I have a very long command (with pipes) but couldn’t be pasted properly into the shell prompt. Kept having cursor running around, and commands mixed around, very messy. Couldn’t get things done especially with pasting commands..Version: 4.4.7

No local terminal and utilitiesThis is a great ssh terminal utility for managing lots of remote connections, but that is a niche user case. If the program was actually a Terminal, as it seems to be in name, then it would be more useful to a broader user base - there simply is no local terminal with boilerplate network command line utilities. It should be called “SSHimus - SSH management utility”. Would be so much more useful to be able to open a local terminal, ping some hosts, run nslookup or other network utils, and then just connect to ssh remote sessions from the command line like a real local terminal. Instead I need another app to do this….Version: 4.26.5

Good app, just too pricey just for the ability to send “tab”I used this app for a long time just for ssh, that was until they decided to charge money to be able to use tab for autocomplete on the host device. Now I’ll have to use another app 😔.Version: 4.10.2

Pretty Good, But...It'd be nice to be able to customise the font. I'm using it for VT100 telnet sessions and the glyphs for graphical elements are munted (question marks in diamonds showing instead of horizontal & vertical pipes).... Also, it'd be good to be able to customise the keyboard key output per terminal... standard keys like tab, arrows, backspace etc are sending incorrect escape sequences to my server... I need to be able to configure what keys send....Version: 3.4.0

Great remote client, except..…the last update wiped all my local configs: saved hosts, history, SSH keys - all gone..Version: 4.11.6

Latest update deleted all saved hostsReally the title says it all. Opened terminus today to find that all my saved hosts have been removed in the latest update. Not sure if a bad update or now this is a paid feature but really annoying. Going to loom elsewhere for ssh on apple devices..Version: 4.11.7

Serious Problem with new iPadI’ve used this app since it was called ‘Server Auditor’ and until now it has always been outstanding. I purchased a new iPad a couple of weeks ago (standard 9.7 inch with cellular) and Termius now becomes unusable within a few sessions after new installation. Keyboard response times increase until the app simply locks up. I’ve verified that ssh sessions from my Mac work fine, as it seems do those from my old iPad 2. I’ve been unable to get any response from the developer regarding any of this despite numerous attempts. Sadly the other products out there don’t come close to Termius in features, but at least they seem to work on this iPad. If Termius works for you it’s great, but unfortunately that’s no longer the case for me. Down to one star since its unusable on my iPad and I can’t get a response from the developer. Still no response from Crystalnix and no update. I’ve switched to the ‘Prompt 2’ app which seems to work well so far. It seems to have all the features I need for the moment. Not cheap, but if it continues to work properly that’s what’s important to me..Version: 3.5.1

Very infrequent updates for this price tagI have been a long time Termius user. The app works nicely. I would be happier to pay its subscription price if the app was better maintained: there are plenty of features that would make the app more worth its price tag. Don’t get me wrong, the app itself is great, but when paying that much I would expect frequent updates while currently it is barely maintained.Version: 4.6.7

Became intrusiveI liked it until it forced you to create or link accounts. I just wanted an ssh terminal. Delete..Version: 4.13.6

Overpriced and didn’t work for meToo many developers think they charge the moon for a piece of rock. In any case I installed it, created an account, gave it a pass phrase, added my host and I couldn’t connect! I then realised the app didn’t have permissions to my local network (my host was on my local Lan) and it didn’t ask me either. I checked the app settings and no option there. Seems like a silly oversight but this is enough for me to look elsewhere..Version: 4.10.3

Password locked without letting me set a passwordWhen my phone was totaled by someone pushing me into the corner of a table, I could not transfer my settings to the new phone. I never set a password on my terminus, but now it requires me to enter a password to get my settings back I can’t get into the app and now it’s threatening to lock me out if I try to many times but what the &)($& is the password? This is less than useless because I just want to use the app I don’t wanna have to login and yet I’m forced to login to an account that is going to be locked because I never created a password and now it’s forcing me to enter a password, this app should be Dlisted from the App Store because it is unusable and the support is nonexistent!.Version: 4.14.1

No longer working in the latest updateHosts are now unreachable. Upon further analysis, it seems the app now forces us to give it access to finding other devices across the network to make hosts reachable. As someone who is focused on privacy, I always decline giving apps this permission. And had even done so for Termius and prior to the latest update, it would work as intended. But now I have no choice but to give it access to the entire network. In which case I’d rather delete the app instead unless I’m overlooking something here..Version: 4.11.1

Outrageous pricingTermius is a very, very nice SSH terminal but at the end of the day, it is JUST a terminal emulator. A one-time price of $20 would be reasonable. A $100 annually recurring cost is so outrageous compared to other IOS apps with much more functionality, the developers should be ashamed of themselves..Version: 4.6.7

Lost all of my hosts config & keychain during syncI’ve been using Termius for three years as a paid premium user. Their latest updates has significant flaws where it got the idea of syncing so wrong: I bought a new laptop lately and downloaded Termius as my first thing, however after logged in the app it automatically starts syncing all of the hosts config and was somehow corrupted. Then I tried to manually click the SYNC NOW and RELOAD DATA button on my account page and it start uploading the corrupt files back to the cloud… I’ve tried contacting Termius but haven’t heard from them for the past 48 hours. What should I do? And how do I recover the data? I’m being nice to leave a 2 star review, honestly this app has a major flaw, and the UX part could’ve done better: UI is just a pretty face, UX is the key..Version: 4.10.9

Was a - Good terminalUnfortunately I can no longer use this app because my iPad is apparently too old. A secure terminal, using well established protocols, has been rendered unusable because of Human Interface considerations and an OS update. Dissapointing. --------------- previous version. ----------- I am constantly amazed that this app has made the touch screen so useable in what is a very keyboard-centric environment. I still prefer a keyboard, but in a pinch this is my go to terminal on the iPad. This app is functional with a useable user interface. Easy access to terminal special keys like Control, Alt and Tab. I use it daily..Version: 4.0.6

Great terminal client BUT way too expensiveGreat UI and feature set. A real pleasure to use, but $12.99 CAD per month to unlock all features? You got to be kidding me! I’d pay $20 one time maybe even $30, but cannot justify even their “discounted” price of $129 CAD per year. Pure insanity! This app deserves 5 stars, but a greedy development team force me to give it only 2 stars..Version: 4.10.3

GarbageGarbage.Version: 4.10.6

Great Extended Soft KeyboardCleanest look and feel too., but SFTP is locked behind a sub. model. I’d drop $59 for this in a heartbeat and consider up to $99, but even that would only get me 6 - 10 months of use under the subscription model. I have no fewer than 6 Raspberry Pi’s running throughout my house (not enterprise business) at any given time. Oh how sweet it is to do all I could want from my new iPad Air 3 without leaving the Lazyboy in the evenings. Well almost all. Not sftp. I don’t mind copying my Termius public key around by hand. That’s a good enterprise-pay feature. Ditto for on going Mosh dev, automated execution snippets, and so on. Until there is a one-time purchase option for personal use, or sftp is moved out to free, I see this as a product for business users. I could not recommend this product to makers or hobbyists. If you’re getting used to doing functional things on iOS/iPadOS now, hobbyists may as well get used to the individual quirks of something else with sftp instead, if you haven’t already tweaked your setup or copied your keys around..Version: 4.5.3

Really nice app. Ruined by unrelenting prompts to subscribeEvery single time you try to do anything in the app it requires that you either pay $70 per year, $9 per month, or decline a series of 3-4 whole screen prompts. It’s become unusable. No thanks. I don’t think an occasional terminal app needs to cost as much as Netflix and, no, I don’t feel like letting you know that five times every time I use it..Version: 4.0.9

Not worth subscriptionI have been using this app for years even before it was bought out and changed names to Termius - but have come to realise there are apps now that are just as good as this offering, and have moved on. It was the subscription that killed it for me- priced way too high for what it is. Also - there were many community requests for certain features highly voted for that never warranted attention from the dev team. Felt like paying for nothing. It dreams. Moving off subscription, got sick of being pestered to subscribe. I no longer use this app - ssh pro does what i need..Version: 4.3.4

Subscription fatigueI cannot use or recommend this app due to the subscription. I understand development and maintenance of the app is not something that is viable for free. In addition to the subscription model please consider sales alternatives to accommodate a broader user base. A higher one-time purchase is one path, but since you are already locking features behind a subscription, maybe a onetime purchase for the main app, and additional one time purchases for other pieces of the app. It would let users choose between smaller subscription payments and a larger upfront cost. Also features for features that are not needed, users don’t buy those specific modules..Version: 4.11.2

Pricing is outrageousIt’s a terminal emulator. Annual subscription? You’re nuts..Version: 4.0.9

Getting worseThe recent changes to arrow key behaviour and the placement of the extra keyboard commands have made this app far more difficult to use and less intuitive. Why make these changes when there was no need for change, especially when their new behaviour is worse - do the developers not use their own app?.Version: 5.1.0

Requires AccountThis review is set to be neutral as I did not get a chance to try it because as soon as I opened the app it asked for me to create an account, I want an SSH app not something else to have my details or require a login for, sure have the login but it should be an option not a requirement.Version: 4.7.3

Functionality is locked behind a VERY expensive subscriptionI really want to like this app. It has excellent UI design which you don’t find often in ssh applications. My main problem with it is that a lot of its functionality, like SFTP, is locked behind a $10 per month subscription fee. That’s a LOT of money for an application like this. If it were a $30-$50 one-time payment, or a $5 subscription, I’d have no problem. For reference, 1Password is one of the all-time best utility iPhone apps for developers and it costs $4 per month. But $10 per month is $120 per year on top of all the other types of subscriptions that I already pay. That’s just too much. It’s 75% of a full-priced Adobe app. It’s more than I pay for Capture One. For an SFTP client. Why in God’s name??? I can’t imagine that they’re making as much as they could have if their pricing model included casual users and hobbyists as well as the professional user base that it’s currently priced for..Version: 4.7.2

Good, but buggy and unfinishedGood, but advertised features are not in all the clients. The snippets are useful but could be developed in your bashrc anyway in some cases. The fact that it syncs across all my devices is very handy. Right click copy paste is also missing. Middle mouse button does the trick but it takes some getting used to. Overall an OK tool if profile syncing is helpful. Otherwise it feels a little unpolished. good support though for paying customers and it seems to improve with each new update..Version: 3.6.3

Buggy as hell and no support whatsoeverMosh terminal freezes for a while if iPhone screen is briefly locked then I return back to Termius. Colour scheme keeps reverting back to default meaning I can't see which pane is active on tmux. There's no mouse events sent when tapping which makes using tmux a pain for switching between panes and windows. There's absolutely no community support whatsoever and Termius don't respond to emails so am completely on my own if I need help or have a problem. And the pro price is an absolute joke. It's purely a cash grab. EDIT: Downgrading to one star because it doesn't survive a kill by the OS so leaves stale mosh sessions on server. This is a real nuisance when using the camera app because it causes all apps in background to be killed..Version: 4.13.9

Can’t import SSH key via FilesI know it’s harsh to give this app one star for such a small reason, but it’s really such a basic feature it’s inexcusable. When adding an SSH key, you’re given an option to generate one, paste one, or import one from iTunes. I don’t have iTunes installed and don’t want to deal with that. If I have the key in the Files app on my phone, or in my iCloud, I should be able to select it from there. It’s 2022. The “Files” app was introduced three years ago. Every app that supports files supports the “Files” app. Get with the times and add an import option to select a key file from “Files” and you get five stars..Version: 4.11.1

One of the best SSH apps, but...The pricing is absolutely crazy. £9 a month for an SSH client is really absurd, especially when this is for personal use. I don’t berate the devs for choosing a subscription model, but it really should be more like a third of the price per month for personal use. I have been researching and see just how many complaints there are on the App Store and their own forums about the pricing for the past couple of years, but they never take any action on it, so I don’t hold out any hope of it changing any time soon as they don’t seem to listen. Even a “lite” subscription without some of the more advanced features, but for a cheaper price, would be good. As it stands I am, personally, switching back to a different app (one time purchase which equates to less than 3 months of Termius). Disappointing..Version: 4.6.0

Fantastic appHad an issue with the new keyboard and logging in. Emailed the devs and they resolved both issues for me within a few hours. So aside from being the best terminal em I've found, their support is also top notch. Other devs take note! Highly recommended. Edit: Now it’s yet another app that has gone to a subscription model for pro. The price is ridiculous too. When will devs learn that people don’t want subscriptions for apps, and they would make more money (I’m sure) if it was a one off payment. I’d happily pay £10-20 as a one off, but there is no way in heck that I’m doing a subscription!.Version: 4.14.3

It pretty good but not polishedNot gonna lie it’s pretty good because the service is technically free though for the premium service the pricing is very unrealistic and I have a problem where after typing a few things my text just disappears and I cannot see what I am typing. Also I wish it would auto close connections.Version: 4.6.9

Nice functionality, overpriced subscription, broken functionalityI’ve used Terminus for about a year now for infrequent access to my hosts with an iPad or iPhone. Positives are easy to use, good configuration options, easy key syncing. Port forwarding works well. The main negative is the insanely overpriced subscription, an SSH app with all the bells and whistles should be a 1 time purchase, period. As a subscription what am I paying for? Support? No, features. I’d consider paying for this if the monthly price ($9.99/mo) was the annual price, but never more than $1/month for something that should be a one time $10 app (like this). The next negative - I’m not sure if I’m doing this wrong, but I swear the back button used to work even if I exit a session, now I have to kill the app to get out of an existing session. It works if I don’t CTRL+D or ‘exit’, but if I do either the back button to go to the app does nothing. Going to go look for a replacement that doesn’t have an abusive, rip-off your customers business model..Version: 4.9.10

Disappointing subscription-based modelFirstly, this is a decent app. I’ve been using it for a while and finally decided that I could do with agent forwarding, so figured I’d upgrade. It’s at this point I discover that it’s £9.99 per YEAR and a subscription-based model. How ridiculous. I’ve no desire to use the syncing or any other element that might justify an ongoing subscription. I just wanted to pay for a decent SSH app. Apparently I will just have to find something else and give them my money instead..Version: 3.5.1

Latest update completely screwed the UITermius used to be a good app for logging into my Linux system and doing useful work like editing. The latest update took away more than 15% of the screen real estate for a useless title bar, and also hid critical keys like CTRL and ESC. It’s now very tedious to do anything. Please give us the option to restore the previous UI!.Version: 5.0.0

Not perfect for individual useI think the subscription cost is unacceptably high to an individual user who wants premium features like Face ID and SFTP but who only uses the app once a week for personal use. I think they’ve made a mistake by bundling too many features together behind the high cost paywall. Business customers could justify that cost if they use it everyday working in teams. An individual user doesn’t need all the features in the subscription. Please give us some choices for a one-time in app purchase. Let your business customers be your month-to-month subscription based bread and butter..Version: 4.9.3

Used To Be Great, Now Pure GreedUntil recently I would have said Termius is the best terminal app, but others have caught up (Blink is excellent and reasonably priced but fully functional as a free app). Termius got greedy and shady. $120/year is insane - A YEAR. And they do this in a shady way by making it a “web app” so they don’t have to pay Apple their cut, even though without the Apple App Store they wouldn’t even exist. Add to this that they now also collect your data to sell to the highest bidder, it just screams “avoid like the plague”. The subscription price is just absolute extortion for features that many other apps already have, such as not timing out after 60 seconds. Do you need the silly bells and whistles that Termius thinks is worth the exorbitant yearly forever subscription or do you need a shell? You decide..Version: 4.11.7
