Bad programmingNo thanks, log in if you can. Terrible!.Version: 4.0

Continuing ProblemsDownload fails more often than not. Consumer staff takes two weeks or longer to reply to complaints. Deleting and re downloading of the app is time consuming and often fails to solve problem. TLS states not their problem..Version: 4.0

Great but elusiveA beautifully designed app - and the TLS is extremely well edited these days. It loses stars because it's too much of a bother for me to read. I used to be able to download issues. I can't anymore: it rejects my password. It flees from me that sometime did me seek. Like some other commenters, I can uninstall and reinstall the app. That works, but not permanently. I can't be bothered to do it regularly. I can use Safari with my iPhone and read the text in less attractive forms. Or there's good old paper. I can't believe an obvious bug, receiving other complaints, hasn't been fixed. Can't you bring in the Obamacare team?.Version: 1.1.1

Consistently goodLess ideal than print, on line still serves a useful purpose. On my iPad thus far everything works well and the formatting of articles is excellent..Version: 4.0

The bestWhat a great online version of a great literary magazine. The intellectual world at your fingertips. What could be better than that.Version: 4.1

Made a mistakeYou are 5 stars.Version: 4.1

TLS at lastI used to subscribe to the TLS but gave up because of the cost, so I am very pleased to find it now available digitally. The app itself is a lesson in how to do it, being both simple and clear without sacrificing function. I would give it five stars but for a small formatting bug which sometimes superimposes pictures over parts of the text, but imagine this will be cleared up soon..Version: 2.0

Smooth app, great content (June 2020)Easy to navigate & use app, with the best weekly book reviews & essays in the English-speaking world. You can buy individual issues for cheap, or use your TLS subscription to access them. The text font itself is clear and readable. A+..Version: 4.1

App continues to failApp fails to download magazine content due to some kind of authorization service error. Customer service claims they are working on it. Makes a subscription mostly worthless. This continues with Feb 17 issue..Version: 4.0

Content 5, app 3App could improve by adding ability to ‘annotate in the margins’ in addition to adding entire article to scrapbook..Version: 4.0

Best place to get the latest readsThe TLS provide short sharp and succinct reviews of new publications. Also very readable are the reviews of films, current topics and opinion pieces. As an Australian reader I wish the TLS was less Eurocentric and covered more works from below the Equator.Version: 5.1

Love the TLS!I can’t imagine life without the TLS, and the App makes it easy to read on-the-go..Version: 4.1

Just terribleThe app worked for a bit. Then it refused to allow me any access, and wants to charge me 2.99 to look at each issue that I already paid for. I talked with customer service who assure me they can log in as me with no problem. Gee, I wish I could be so lucky..Version: 4.0

Keep having to redownload issuesFor some time now, and even without the app getting any updates, it seems, I keep losing the issues I had downloaded. It’s a real pain to have to redownload things all the time, never mind that you still get logged out at intervals. Please at least go back to a version that kept the downloads. I love the journal and often like to revisit issues, and seldom get through the whole one within a week..Version: 4.0

Drop offI open the app to an issue, and it keeps closing. Not amused..Version: 5.0

Time Sink!Cannot use this app from day to day without refilling subscription information each and every time. Search for info, copy and paste, hit ok, read—for a bit—repeat endlessly. ——————— Update: does anyone understand why they see the need constantly to login as a desirable feature? What does it to for them? In my best moment, I realize I should cancel and read via library subscriptions online..Version: 5.0

Very good...It's just a shame that (1) the app pesters incessantly for an app-store review, which I didn't want to give so soon after downloading and (2) there is a "loading wheel" permanently in the middle of the screen on the iPad app when reading (a spoked one, composed of fat lines radiating from a central point, pulsing in a circular motion). UPDATE: the trick with the circular whatnot (which appears on iPhone as well) is that it only appears on articles accessed directly from the article menu. So click on the article before and swipe to the one you want..Version: 6.0

Great app!Amazing! Love it!.Version: 3.0

Sanity in a sad, sick worldNeed TLS more than ever as a place of refuge Have been subscribing since 1988 and ever since then my cocktail party chatter has glittered as strangers flock around me to listen to me hold forth as I regurgitate all that I have read that week.Version: 5.0

ExcellentThis is really superb. This is a very well thought-through iPad version of the TLS, with good navigation and clear presentation. You can export articles by email. The app holds the most recent ten issues and you download them to read them. If you have a serious interest in books, this is indispensable..Version: 1.1.1

Simple, straightforwardThe TLS in app form provides Australian readers with instant access...better than waiting for a print edition! The interface is a little eccentric; the book icon gets you table of contents, while oddly, what appears to be a picture frame, but may be postage stamp, gives you thumbnails of pages..pretty straightforward once you twig. Reviews helpfully offer a tab on which can be found the details of the book. Text in articles is readily cut-and-pasted. This feature alone makes the app worthwhile and superior to print. Sharing can be done via Twitter in which your post will be illustrated with a first-page grab, with title of the article automatically inserted in the tweet. Alternatively, you can send a friend, or yourself, an email of the entire text. That's remarkably fair and very helpful. Some links within the text would be an improvement, especially in such a long running publication with a huge archive from which to draw such links. That would make it of much greater scholarly value. In addition, links might take readers straight to the publisher website for purchase details..Version: 1.1.1

Thanks, Always Fun and InspiringI thoroughly enjoy the TLS and the supporting podcast. Alex Clark is a great addition to the podcast team although Thea always provided a stimulating listen. The TLS consistently provides the opportunity to learn and to be excited by that new learning. The introductory editorial piece is always worth a read. Some good humour..Version: 5.1

Easy-to-use appThe TLS content is obviously superb and its app is quite up to the task of supporting it. Easy, clear, and straightforward to use; the way that earlier volumes are kept is brilliant; the contents page and thumbnails most neat. My only gripe would be that the crossword is not available... I have no idea whether the reason for its omission lies with the TLS people or the app builder/maintainer. But, on the whole, I can be counted amongst the very satisfied..Version: 2.0

App Doesn't WorkHow do you rate something that you cannot log on to.Version: 4.0

Always something surprisingAs well as being accessibly erudite, across a range of subjects and perspectives, there is always something to surprise and pleasurably enlighten you in every edition..Version: 5.0

Waiting and waitingThis is an update to a previous review: they have fixed the technical problems and everything works well so I am giving it four stars. Why four? Simple--it just isn't as interesting to read as the TLS on paper, less satisfying because not as easy to browse. On the other hand, immediate access to the longer excerpts that appear in the print edition. So I am a very happy customer overall. Would give it 4.5 if I could. Earlier review: I really want this app to work. The few times it has, 5 stars. The multiple no times, no stars. No download authorized, I am told (though my subscription is active). Can't be removed from my device (why?). I called customer service on this and they said that there have been problems since March which were supposed to be fixed end of June (this is July). I heard back on an e-mail sent over a week ago saying things would be dealt with soon. Hmmm... Okay, I have been credited for an extra four weeks on my subscription, thank you, but what I really want is to be reading! Yes, you can sometimes (hit or miss) download by reinstalling the app, but the operative word here is sometimes..Version: 2.0

Intellectually stimulating and highly valuable applicationThe Times Literary Supplement is without a doubt the most intellectually, culturally and even spiritually engaging large-scale periodical I know. Not only that, this application presents its contents in elegant and easily-accessible form. I highly recommend it to all English-speaking peoples who wish to keep abreast of contemporary thinking by well-informed writers of intellectual acumen and ability to communicate well. We are provided here with reading matter that is a 'must' for all who consider themselves cultured, and also those who, eschewing the gutter press, wish to know what is considered of value today by men and women who are the leaders and guardians of our literary and spiritual heritage..Version: 2.0

Always something! From the brief notes through the reviews and on to the longer informative articles, not to mention the back page and finishing with the sometimes inscrutable crossword the TLS never fails to fulfil its promise of an exhilarating read. Thank you very much..Version: 4.0

Great iPad appI signed up a week ago. This does everything I could wish for, apart from downloading / sharing full articles which is an understandable limitation. The font size can be changed, and the menu navigation makes browsing easy. It’s good to be able to go to back issues immediately and at £12.50 per quarter is great value..Version: 4.0

Fix itThe generally excellent content is let down by the poor functionality of the app. Everyone seems to agree. Why not just get on and fix it?.Version: 4.0

Great MagazineI receive the TLS every Friday. It is my staple reading for the weekend. This app. Is easy to use. Fast and efficient..Version: 4.0

The absolute highlight of my week - need more be said?(Some witty comment about brevity perhaps?).Version: 5.0

Just go ahead and subscribe! The Times Literary Supplement offers me a quality and style of commentary I otherwise cannot find anywhere else. Treat yourself to a delicious dessert of ideas that have consequences. Bloomington, Minnesota, USA.Version: 4.0

Great contentDiversity and quality..Version: 5.1

Good app, room for improvementThe content is excellent, and better edited than on the Kindle subscription. The app is beautifully designed and looks particularly good on an iPad. Two quibbles that make this a four rather than five star review: 1. From time to time I am logged out when trying to download a new edition. This requires me to dig out the subscription number and log in again. A pointless hassle. 2. The app sometimes decides to take me back to the beginning of an article or even the issue, which does not happen on kindle (or indeed the paper edition) and can irritate. Otherwise, superb..Version: 2.0

Terrific AppElegant interface. The storage of previously-read issues is a plus; it will take a lot of issues to fill up an iPad, and a lot of issues of the TLS to wade through is a nice problem to have. What marvels will the Basement Labyrinth produce next?.Version: 1.1.1

Wonderful TLS, awful app layoutPlease, please restore the multi column version of the app. Reading the screen wide columns is unwieldy. Worse, the charming illustration headings for Letters and NB are woefully pixellated and made ugly to see. At the very least allow us to switch between views according to our preferences..Version: 4.0

Really pleased that the TLS is on newsstand. After having a less than edifying experience with digital The Times subscription via bank standing order when I was over charged, I cancelled my standing order, with some dismay. However, now having both the TLS and the times as a simple newsstand option is perfect, as whilst this option is not as cheap, I feel more secure in the knowledge it can be deactivated via in-app subscription. It's wonderful to have the TLS on my iPad. The best literary review in the world, in my opinion..Version: 1.1.1

Superb ReviewsThe range of topics is staggering, the depth of knowledge is almost always profound, and the attempt to cover the best and the brightest (often not the most well-known) is constantly impressive. In our Era of World Mediocrity, the historic TLS continues to be a bright beacon of intellectual hope..Version: 4.0

Great app!Never had any problem myself!.Version: 4.0

Functionality destroyed by an unwelcome updateThe app. used to be splendid, but it is now impossible to share articles, moreover members of the help team appear to have buried their heads in the sand. Extremely disappointing! A lamentable and retrograde "development". Since writing the above, I have renewed my subscription, but no improvement has been made. The app does not function well with iOS, since the share function fails every time to produce a link, url etc., rendering sharing impossible. Customer Services refuse to acknowledge that this is the case..Version: 4.0

Jane MacLeodI really enjoyed reading up on Psychedelics. My friend suffers from Depression. My eldest Son is interested in financial monetary affairs. Thank you. My youngest Son runs his own metal business.Version: 6.0

ReviewDelivered all my expectations. Value for money..Version: 4.0

ExcellentTLS is a welcome addition to Newsstand. It's great having the newspaper in a glossy colour format, and access to back issues all in one place. The single drawback I found is that it does not remember the place you last read to, like a bookmark, in the way that eReaders do..Version: 1.1.1

TerribleOn new monthly plan and can't discern how to log in. Why can't my account number be retained like Every Other subscription app I use?.Version: 4.0

The TLS App is awful.TLS magazine is superb, but the TLS app is awful. I am not the first to complain it; many subscribers have complained about it. However, TLS management refuses to acknowledge it, and has no interest in fixing it. This is very surprising and consumer unfriendly. The management needs to wake up..Version: 4.0

Loyal to paper, but grateful for appA longtime subscriber to the hard copy edition, I am still loyal to the paper version but find the app a sensible and practical alternative when I’m on travel. Its main virtues are simplicity, clarity, and - frankly - a direct reflection of the printed version’s structure. Less is more. My only recommendation is to keep the articles’ titles identical to the hard copy edition..Version: 4.0

Rod RayTwo weeks now unable to download issue. Paid the 2.99 for last weeks in hope that 'known issue' would be solved by this week... But no! Advice to delete the app not possible as app doesn't show on screen of iPad.Version: 3.0
