✓ Buggy as hellI see different chats on the iPad and different messages on the iPhone even though I’m signed in with the same account. Also this strange limitation of not being able to be logged in on multiple devices at the same time is terrible and very limiting. I bought Chinese lessons on this app and I often need to switch to an iPad and when I do I it’s signs me out on the iPhone. It seems like the team behind this app is stuck in 1990s. Also posting a moment after a language exchange is disturbing- maybe in China you can get away with such privacy violations but not in the west..Version: 4.1.6

✓ Great app for language learningI’ve been using the app for nearly two years. I’m finding it’s a great way to have conversations with people from the target language. So many people likeminded wanting to learn language all over the world. Sometimes I can’t have conversations with everyone but finding some good language partners has been valuable. ✓ Love this app!I think this app is amazing! What a great idea, I’ve been using other apps to learn a language and it’s great being able to put that in to practice and further learn more words! By speaking to native speakers I can learn more about interactions and how to react to them, I find the community very friendly as well! One suggestion I’d like to make it to be able to rename your private message chats with people, I am talking to a lot of people right now, some I’m talking to them in a different language (as often as I can with the words I’ve learnt) and other in all English as I am helping them, it would be nice to be able to change the names so at a glance I can see if it is an English chat I’m opening or a chat with the language I’m learning so I don’t need to open and scroll up to see what’s been said and whether I’m in the right chat. ✓ Overall good, but some fixing up!I think the app is great and all but I don’t like how we have limits of translations, I don’t need you to fix it I would just appreciate that you would. So I say the game is 4 stars and I know some users may disagree with me, and that’s okay! I don’t really mind anything else. But I feel like what if you met someone and you forgot that this is a learning app not a social app, this is not a complaint I was just thinking that there is some users, for example my sister she has hello talk and she has a Friend that she made in the app and she doesn’t really seem to be learning anything by her friend. ✓ Literally changed my whole lifeBy chance I was one day boring at my couch and I decided to download the app during the lockdown almost a year ago to improve my English and teach Spanish/French. I met my current boyfriend in this app, we spent like 1 year talking and learning every day being in different countries not being able to see each other or meeting. I ended up changing my studies and moving out to England. I learned to speak English, found a new country, discovered a new culture and one of the most special and important person in my life (currently we live very close to each other). Now I can say I’m really happy and everything I went through was worth it. Download the app!! You never know what could happen, I certainly didn't expect any of this. Please, for the love of any supreme being, create a web app so I don’t need to use my phone! ✓ Good app - shame about their new translation machineI have made a few friends form this app and it’s really helpful. Unfortunately, I paid for the unlimited translations. Their machine translation model has changed since last year and it’s getting worse!!! Also, the transliteration function often transliterates into Chinese instead of Japanese. Isn’t it possible to write it so that “if kana= japanese, if no kana=chinese” into the script?? it wouldn’t be perfect but it’d be a start. Other than that, it’s great..Version: 4.2.9

✓ Great and wholesome (if not learning chinese 😂)It's a really well-made app and the community there is AMAZING. I havent had any phishers or thirsty people so far, and I've been learning heaps, even as someone learning Japanese in uni! There are so many functions that are so useful like translate, correction, voice msgs, etc. Only problems: mod response was kinda slow, my friend who's learning Chinese is only getting really thirsty men who want an English wife for permanent residency 😂 and also just a tiny amount of really small bugs, but compared to how good this app is, this app is totally worth it. 10/10 get it guys..Version: 3.0.0
✓ Best language appBeen using this 3.5yrs to date. It’s changed a lot and a few things are being monetised which isn’t great but it maintains the fundamental principles of connecting you with natives. I’ve learnt Portuguese in three years probably 90% fluent and now learning Spanish. So many free resources including live lessons and voice rooms. ✓ Learn from people who want to helpI’ve just started using this, once you have the basics of a new language, greetings etc. you can start to explore the language by interacting with people who don’t just ask the next question in the course but about current affairs & what pizza you like. So you have to think about the answers. The app can translate the message, or lets you copy it into your favourite translator and a good dictionary is needed too So far I have enjoyed the challenge.Version: 2.5.0
✓ So helpful!I've been using the app for a couple of weeks now and I absolutely love it, unless you want to pay for the app you can only choose one language to begin with but that doesn't stop you from searching and communicating with people who speak other languages you want to learn too! I'm currently talking to people who speak Korean, Spanish and German and helping them learn English! It's really fun and it's so great to be able to see what an average person from these cultures does on a daily basis and how our cultures differ. It's also super easy and everyone seems open for you to message them and start up a conversation! It can also be really handy if you like to travel and our looking for places to go or places to stay as you can get a local to tell you what they know and who even knows if you become good enough friends with them, you can easily meet up with them too! ✓ Powerful - Cluttered - FunThe best part about this app is the ability to source and interact with genuine native speakers. The second best feature is the extensive and powerful translation features. There seem to be bots that will engage with you initially, and then not meaningfully henceforth. These are usually identified by granulated images and no moments posts. They will wave at you, and once you have asked questions, they simply respond with hi or something similar. This clearly indicates it’s not a sentient being responding. As mentioned, the translation features are really something. They can be used throughout many of the apps features and stages to really help you analyse your target language. Transliteration takes it further and you can even check your pronunciation. Maybe this is not a fault, but the app seems a victim of its own success: there’s way too much going on in this app, and too much choice results in an overwhelming feeling. Perhaps the app is not being niche enough. And perhaps some of the features are not targeted at my mature demographic. Subject categories, campaigns, live groups and more can seem banal. But stick to what benefits you and try using search filters to help ensure you’re not exposed to undesirable things..Version: 5.2.29
✓ Must have but needs some tweaksI have had this app for almost two years, it is amazing for meeting people who genuinely want to learn. Yes as most other apps with a social aspect there are some problems when people decide to get on the inappropriate side, however the Hellotalk team has been amazing with blocking, and removing people that you report. Really I have made some amazing international friendships from this app that not only allows you to learn your target language, but to also exchange culture as well! Mostly everyone I have talked to on here is glad to help and we all are learners so nobody can judge! I love this app. The only problem i and others have is that the software needs updating, it loads slow and recently it has been showing notifications for messages but mot loading said messages. ✓ Great app for language practiceUpdate: 19 Aug 2018 This app previously had some problems with it retaining data it should not be able to access and displaying it in the target text box, with no means of deleting it, but the 2.6.7 version fixed the inability to delete it. Now it still accesses and displays the cache content without authorisation (ie display other unrelated confidential activity eg medical notes etc) and puts it in the target box. Proof of this was sent to customer services with screenshots and the issue was acknowledged & fixed. The developers responding here however do not read the full text or check with their customer services before replying, bizarrely asking for videos! If I could I would, but iphones only do screenshots and hellotalk has no screen recorder. It is a good app, but they need to stop accessing the iphone cache automatically. This should only be through manual user cut & paste. HT Translate should NEVER access the cache automatically, it should only look in the source text box. Developers need to read carefully the feedback and ensure they really understand the problem. This issue is demonstrated in the screenshot series sent to customer services..Version: 2.6.7

✓ This app is amazing - the users can be overwhelmingThe features of this app are incredible. It has everything you need in one place to communicate with someone who speaks another language, and to practice speaking another language. I love the translate feature which can translate an audio recording into text of its native language, and then provide a translation into an alternative language. You can check sentences you’ve typed through a translator to make sure you said what you thought you said. It’s incredible. I took one star off because of issues with users. The app does not have an easy way to change my profile settings to avoid this problem. I am a 47 year old married woman. I am overwhelmed by the number of men from other countries who reach out. You can’t reply to them all, but of the handful I did reply to, 90% try to get romantic and they do it fast. Uggh! Two have told me they are looking for true love - which apparently only exists in The US with a woman who barely speaks their native language. ✓ Amazing!This app is incredible and has helped loads with my Spanish. Other apps teach you how to say things formally and often give you “direct translations” rather than realistic ones - by this I mean things may be slightly altered in different languages to become more colloquial and realistic. This app allows you to help others with your native language and learn a new language, all whilst making friends 😊. Not only do you learn the language, but the culture and daily lives of the people in that country. ✓ It’s so good!So the thing is that since you’re talking to actual people you’re forced into learning practical speech and things that you’d actually say all the time, which is absolutely not a bad thing. Any anyways it’s much more fun talking to an actual person. When you sign up you have to give your birthday and I’m pretty sure it’s because all of the people you end up talking to are around the same age as you (assuming you don’t lie about your birthday), which makes talking about pop culture and things you like to do a lot easier since it’s much more likely you’d have something in common with some one the same age as you than some 20 years older than you. It also makes making friends around the globe na lot easier in general (even for someone who isn’t very sociable like me). ✓ A must have for language learners!HelloTalk is probably the best language learning app you could download. I use it everyday and have learned so much Spanish because of it. One of the best features is the wall of moments (this is a feature Tandum doesn’t have as of no), which I’ve used to ask questions to the HelloTalk community about grammar, vocab, and to post advice and lessons about English. The correction feature is also great and I like how you can save the corrections people give you. In the past year I’ve visited Mexico, Spain, Peru, Chile and Argentina, and I was able to meet up with friends I met on HelloTalk while I was there! My only critique would be I wish you could make video calls without having to pay for the premium versoin (this is something you can do in Tandem). Nevertheless, I’ve literally recommended HelloTalk to anyone I’ve met trying to learn a language. It’s a must..Version: 2.4.3
✓ Good for practicing with native speakersIt looks like the app expanded and added courses and games you can do in-app. That being said, I don't see how one can justify a $150 USD lifetime subscription for basically a social media app without including the courses and games with that pricing. The price basically allows you to search for people nearby, unlimited translations (you can copy and paste outside the app so this is not really a perk), make more phone calls (again, you can do this outside the app with other options). All in all, aside from getting rid of apps that take up a good chunk of the timeline feed, I don't see how else $150 justifies the few benefits aside from saying "thank you" to the developers. ✓ Great!This app is amazing! I’ve already made some awesome friends and it’s great practise for speaking, reading, writing and listening to your choice of language (Spanish is mine). The translating devices in this app are very helpful too. I’m only a beginner in Spanish, but I have learnt a lot already after just 2 days of using it. I highly recommend this app. The free version is amazing, and the paid version gives you just those extra perks to make the experience even more enjoyable. While not everyone bothers to answer to you, I have met a few great people who are keen to learn English and are just as helpful when I have questions for them. I set my profile so that I can only be found by women, so haven’t experienced the issues with creepy men that others have had. I haven’t upgraded to VIP yet because the link to HelloSpanish made me want to buy that product first instead! ✓ Great language app, meet cool people!So I used HelloTalk to help me learn Japanese my first three semesters of college. It’s amazing at what it does and sometimes what it accidentally does. It’s crazy how easy it is to meet people and just start talking. This app truly has a global reach. Also, I’ve ended up making real friendships on this app that are going to last me past my use for it. I’m really appreciative of the developers for connecting people like this. It truly makes the world a smaller place. I’ve used the app both as a normal and premium member. From what I can tell, this app has alot of people working on it so that probably justifies all the adds and constant pushing for you to buy premium. ✓ Great for meeting new foreign friendsGained so many friends in the foreign country that I’m going to visit through this app. They have been very good for learning their language. Having English as my main language, there are no shortage of solicitations to help them learn English. Support staff was very helpful with a technical idiosyncrasies of this app. I originally signed up with my AppeID and wasn’t able to transfer my chats to my new iPhone despite having turned Apple iCloud backup on. They helped me by instructing to connect my email address and log in using the address instead of my AppleID. That worked. As for the language exercises itself, there are so many online classes for Vietnamese, so I’m not enticed to pay for it, yet..Version: 5.2.6

✓ Great app, but a little suggestion:This is an amazing app for language learning because it really pushes you to learn in real life situations with other friendly users. I’ve been using it for a few months now and highly recommend it to anyone wanting to add creativity to their learning and speed up the process! I do have a suggestion to the developers though… I would like to subscribe to the listening skills section where I can read the basic picture stories and learn in this way, but I won’t subscribe at all until you can do something about the scrolling banner at the top of the page, it’s so very distracting, it just tells you the title of the story but it’s constantly scrolling back and forward and so I can’t take my eyes off it instead of reading the story I’m supposed to be reading 😂🤦🏼♂️ quite a big flaw when it comes to concentration (and my concentration isn’t the best). ✓ A very good start for picking up a new languageI don’t really do this review stuffs. However, i decided to do this for the review reader and developer. The app is very easy to use and full of features for you to communicate with the native speaker. My story is i learnt thai (speaking, reading, writing) with this apps only 3 months. I understood that people will say it depends on the people. But, for whoever really want to spend their time dedicated to study a language, there are a big opportunity here in the apps. ✓ Good OverallIn my opinion, this is the best app on the market for finding language partners to talk with. There are a lot of people and A LOT of activity in the moments area. It’s a language specific social media platform, and it really makes it easy, even if you’re a little uncomfortable, to at least find some place to use your target language. My only complaint, and what keeps it from the full 5-stars, is it’s inability to sync your data effectively. Occasionally you’ll get a notification but be unable to read it. If you reinstall, then you can see it BUT you’ll lose your chat history. It has a similar problem with using both the iPad and iPhone apps. One message will get sent to the iPad, the other the iPhone. It would be worth it to me to save my chat history/data in iCloud. But it’s a fantastic app otherwise, with a pleasant community..Version: 3.7.5
✓ A Good Intro and Good in TheoryIf you're looking to expose yourself to more native content or speakers in a language you're learning, this is a great place to start! But actually finding solid advice and explanations is much harder haha. I'm learning English > Japanese so my experiences may not be universal among the community, but the user-base as a whole could stand to be far more critical when giving feedback. People will let small mistakes slip through and give learners a pass despite the fact that what they are saying IS incorrect, probably to try and seem polite. And I've seen more than a few people giving straight up WRONG advice- mostly non-native English speakers explaining English to others, but theres been a few native speakers who explain things poorly or give incorrect feedback as well. I think the moments feature is really hindered by the inability to edit comments or corrections after you send them, and the way comments are ordered under posts can be really confusing. The fact that you can't reply to a comment, only tag them in your own under the same post, is mind boggling, especially because they're in reverse chronological order. There's also no way to "downvote" other peoples corrections in those instances where they're giving the wrong advice, which can lead to misunderstanding and misinformation. You basically just have to take all the advice you get from this app with a grain of salt..Version: 4.4.3

✓ Really fun, meet some good peopleI only downloaded this yesterday for fun I didn’t expect anything, but the people on here are genuine and want to learn. Most of them are younger like me so we get on easily, compared to other apps where everyone is like 25 so you don’t know what to talk about. The only downside would be that you have to have VIP to translate more than 10 things, it’s fine you can use google translate but it becomes annoying. I recommend this tho, you can learn the language you want pretty easily and make some really good friends across the world you would’ve never known existed..Version: 3.7.5
✓ Maybe an accident??I love this app, it’s very helpful and makes me want to learn. You meet other people who make you feel better about learning a language. I’m in my younger years so I get help from people closer to my age group. It makes me more comfortable to talk to people my age, I’m glad that you can be any age and not have any restrictions. But here’s the problem! A notice keeps coming up on my screen to tell me dating is not allowed. I’m not talking to anyone sexually, I’m using the app for what it’s meant to be. It annoys me that it comes up so many times when I’m not doing anything wrong! I also help people learn my native language English, but when I try to message people it comes back it interrupts me from chatting. It probably makes the other people think I’m leaving them on read. ✓ Love love loveJust downloaded this app today and i seriously cannot get off. I have used apps since forever and never ever ever write reviews- but this app just honestly deserves the praise. Im learning a new language in a country which primarily only speaks english- so i dont get the opportunity to practise my new skills that much. Luckily for me, this app exists and it has given me so much more exposure to the language! In one day of using this app, i have already helped many people trying to learn english, and many people have helped me (who is trying to learn japanese!) having everyday conversations from people all over the world who speak the language i want to learn is so helpful. Not only do i get to practise, but i make new friends in the process too! The people on this app are super friendly and interactive too- i dont get any of the nerves of fears which come with posting on any of the other everyday apps available. I’ve always wanted to learn to speak and dreamed of having fluent conversations in Spanish. But it is intimidating to speak with people when you are first learning the language. This app covers literally everything you could want when learning a language. 1). Real people. You are having conversations with real people from all over the world who want to practice with you and will help you learn...no matter what level you are. 2). Texting. At first, it can be a bit scary to just hope on and try your hand at speaking. You don’t have to. You can spend time texting with people and creating “moments” were people can correct mistakes and guide you through the process. Plus, you get to read so many posts and chats in the language you want to learn that you get used to doing it and become more comfortable. 3) Audio messages. ✓ Great app but...I’ve recently turned 18 and now I’m mixed in with 40 year olds etc. which has put me off using the app since I don’t have as much in common with these people and they tend to be at a much higher level of language than I am. I think the app could be improved by having a category more like 18-25 so that you’re mixed in with people who are at a more similar level/stage in life. ✓ Super fun & engaging app! :DThis app is super fun! It’s basically social media for learning a language. I have the free version and have already gotten so much out of it. Imagine it working like a more academic-focused version of instagram: you can “follow” people/have “friends”, make posts, see what other people post (but you can see anyone’s posts, not just the people you follow), etc. You are able to see when native speakers of the language you want to learn are on the app and can message people to practice speaking each other’s languages. You also have the option to choose who is able to contact you. For example, I set my account so that only other females who are in my age range are able to contact me. ✓ Love itI love it no complaint it’s not anything bad but I would like some help because I had this app a while ago and I deleted because I wanted to get another app and then now I remembered about it so I installed it and tried signing in but I couldn’t because I didn’t remember the password , so I decided to create another one ... I tried and it said that you can only make one account on each device . So the problem with that is that I don’t know how to make a new email to use , so I want to ask if you could help me get rid of the other account with my email so I could create the new one , or help me find my password because I tried the thing that said “ forgot password?” , Or something like that and it wouldn’t send me an email ( now that I realize maybe it is because I don’t have the mail app ) and said that it was non registered . ✓ Great app and outstanding customer serviceI have used this app for more than 4 years. I decided to buy the lifetime VIP membership and its really worth it. Unlimited translations and lots of languages to switch between eg you can change languages and learn multiple languages at the same time. I think it works best if you are patient and prepared to give something back, as in make regular posts in your language to share so others can learn. Understanding that the beginner you are communicating with may only know a few words or can speak well but cannot write. Learning a language I think is like learning a Musical instrument, it takes regular practice, a good teacher and a chance to perform what you have learnt. ✓ Overall good!I have used this app for over two years now. I think this app is a great idea, and overall implemented very well. I use Hellotalk to practice Japanese, and find that overall people are courteous and honestly want to learn. I quite like the Moments function, and in my experience people use it to share pictures of where they live, or ask many people for language corrections, which is great. Now, there are many superfluous posts like “ Please teach me English!!!”, but I think it is a small price to pay. I do wish that Moments allowed for video posting, though. Many times there are short clips of concerts or scenery that I would love to share with people. As for sexual harassment, whenever it has happened, it is generally handled quickly in my experience. However, I do know of a few notorious people that keep rejoining the app despite being blocked many times. There is not much that can be done for those people, but hopefully they will learn someday. There are some people that are more interested in finding a foreign girlfriend/ boyfriend, but it is easy to find these people and kindly decline or misdirect them. I have had this issue on an off, but sometimes my app will show unread messages, but I cannot see them. Before I would have to delete and redownload to fix it, but as of today when it did it I was able to fix it by closing and reopening the app. It isn’t a huge inconvenience, but a bit annoying at times..Version: 2.4.4

Im still in high school and i am learning Japanese out of school, its really good for learning another language while communicating with others, it doesn't feel like i am learning Japanese in a way which i may feel bored after awhile, as it is in a normal chat convocation form, it seems as if i am just talking to someone as i also get corrected if wrong or i can ask if confused. ✓ This app is pretty great!!I would have given it 4.5/5 stars but i don’t know how to do that so I put 4 instead. This app is great. It connects you to a bunch of people really quickly based on your native language and language of interest. You as the user have to be cautious with giving out personal info, but the app doesn’t require location, just age. I’ve been using it for a month or two now and connected with a really nice person and we’re both learning pretty fast with how you are kind of forced to learn sentence structure and grammar if you are going to talk to each other. The only reason it’s a 4.5/5 for me is I wish it had a dark mode so the light isn’t shining in my face so much, case my “pen pal” is in Japan so it’s always nighttime for me when I talk to him. ✓ Blocked from using.EDIT: After contacting HelloTalk and creating a new account, the app is working and despite previous troubles, I will continue using the app. Even though I've had issues, the features on the app are good enough that I recommend it to a lot of people. The systems that run HelloTalk (customer service etc) need to be considered but the app itself is great for learning languages etc. (I have changed my rating to 4 from 2 as I am now able to actually use the app without issue). I loved HelloTalk. However, after using the app for a year, paying for the pro subscription, I found my account suddenly blocked. I cannot sign in, and when trying to create a new account the app tells me that I cannot use this device with the app. I have tried contacting HelloTalk support for help, but they haven't replied. I feel ignored and confused. I have no idea why my account was blocked and I am frustrated that I can't continue to use the app. It's a good app, and I have made many friends through it. ✓ Best language app for learning Russian and Mandarin ChineseI can not say enough good things about this app, especially as it applies to Russian and Chinese (which is rare in terms of language apps). I really think it’s the best thing for language immersion next to actually living in a different culture. Hellotalk actually makes me motivated to practice everyday without noticing I’m doing some really hardcore studying. The social media platform, group audio chats, voice recording so I can hear myself and native speakers talk, watch live classes, high quality lessons, and the ease at which you can look up words and grammar HelloTalk has improved my language skills more than four years of college classes... Plus I have made some very meaningful friendships through the app. Suggestions: please allow photos in comments; if possible allow for opening comments, photos and translator while doing audio recordings; and improve navigation to messages and notifications (after looking at mine or browsing other moments and users’ pages, I always have to hit the back button a hundred times to get back to messages and lessons... am I missing something on that?) Learning the language you'll really have to filter through the people who are willing to teach but it's worth it!! ✓ The best app on the App Store in my opinionIf you are learning a language, this app is a MUST have. Not only will you learn the language that you’re studying faster than on any other app, but you’ll have fun in the process. You’ll forget you’re even learning a language it’s so much fun. Because of this app, I now not only know how to speak German near fluently, but I also have made some of the best friends I could ever ask for. Ultimately, that matters to me more than learning any language. I also mentioned this app during my college essay. This app helped me grow as a person and broadened the horizons for me in terms of new friendships, a curiosity to explore the world, wisdom and linguistic knowledge. The essay was recently returned with an acceptance letter. I owe it to Hello Talk. I was recommended this app by one of my classmates who was using it, and I decided to give it a try a few weeks later, without too much excitement. ✓ Great but..I love the app and the idea of it. It’s very convenient to use and chat on it. I love the idea we can also help people to correct their mistakes in the language they learn and the translation tools. I also love the fact you can have a little timeline on your profile so it can help other people learning your language :) However I feel a bit limited that I can only talk to people who learn the same language as me (or is it just a lag ?) Also something that really annoys me is in the filter of the member’s search bar, you have to be a premium member to choose to which the gender you want to contact (I don’t mind talking to any gender but as a girl I often feel safer not including men in my search bar most of the time). (Also just putting two gender possibilities when creating a profile can be annoying for people who dont identity as those. It is nothing short of annoying and disturbing to be called “precious”, as I was once, by a complete stranger and even have someone get jealous, passively aggressively claiming, “must be your boyfriend,” or something, after I decided not to reply to their last texts. I should not have to explain my dating status to anyone, especially because this is meant to be a place for language exchange and nothing else more. ✓ Absolutely amazingI’ve used pretty much every language method, tool, and book out there, and while some have been very good, none compare with HelloTalk. I joined ten days ago and think I’ve spent more hours studying than in the previous two months. For example, I’ve already done six hours of zoom chats, when until now I’ve only done an hour a week because tutoring is so expensive. And the only reason I haven’t done more is because I joined right before Christmas and got busy for a few days. Part of the reason the app works is that people keep talking to you. It’s too easy to put an ebook or Anki or LingQ or whatever on your phone and promptly forget it exists. I was concerned when I joined that there might be a lot of creeps and weirdos using it as a dating site, but out of 217 people that have visited my profile (in ten days!) only two were obnoxious and their accounts got deleted soon after, so HelloTalk is doing a really good job keeping it clean. You’re basically guaranteed to find at least a handful of normal people you hit it off with and talk to regularly. If you haven’t guessed by now, I’m really impressed with the app and can’t recommend it highly enough..Version: 4.4.4

✓ A surprisingly good appI didn't really know that this app would work but it does. I just downloaded it yesterday and already I've made heaps of Korean friends who are helping me pronounce words. The recording option lets me ask my friends if I'm saying the word right. It also lets them correct me by recording their word for me to hear. ✓ SOLVED: “Feature Not Available in your Area” Makes app unusableEdit: I was able to get in touch with customer support and they were very quick to resolve the problem once they saw my ticket. Note to self and others, don’t use a VPN when using the app to prevent any confusion. I can’t wait to use it this weekend and continue my language journey and conversation practice! ….. I’ve been getting this error message for two days now. I’ve tried to contact support via email, Twitter, and the app and haven’t heard anything. I’m in the US and even allowed the app to track my exact location. Deleted and uninstalled the app as well. It was working a few days ago which is what makes me sad since I really enjoyed the live event I attended and loved that there were live captions in my target language. It’s a brilliant app where you can chat to many people in the language you are learning and help them with yours. I only got the app yesterday but I think it will be a great app in the long run. ✓ Network errors and issues but otherwise great appLove the potential of the app and met some really good people however as of late I have been getting frequent crashes and apparently some people (not all) had been able to contact me for about 30 days and thought I was disconnected. As of today constant network errors (really bad since the last update) until finally I was considered completely disconnected and unable to do anything despite getting a few messages in return yet unable to send or view any myself (but could still see the message previews on the iphone home screen). Now having tried clearing cache and doing all the network stuff on my end, I decided to try reinstalling (after hard copying the ids of friends should I need to create a whole new account). Now I cannot log into Hellotalk as it seems my password was entered incorrectly too many times even though I just reset it once. I’ll see what happens after the needed 24 hour wait period to try again. It’s a shame as I loved helping others learn, meeting people from other countries, and sharing culture. ✓ My favorite app!I have been a member on this app since 2014 and I honestly have not gotten bored or tired of it. It still continues to be a fun and interactive way to learn languages. I love the new features added with every update. This app seriously has come a long way from when I first became a member. You learn a language through a sort of social media platform, where you post statuses similar to Facebook or twitter, but with the added bonus that native speakers actually get to read and correct your texts, and you can help out as well by doing the same with people learning your language. I have met so many fun and intelligent people on this apps from so many countries, and I love hearing their ideas and sharing each other’s cultures. It’s exciting getting a message from someone and engaging in a fun conversation with them. Sure, it has its downsides. Like for example, may girls report getting harassed, but in all honestly, you choose who you want to talk to and who you don’t want to talk to. Anyone can easily be blocked. ✓ Great app to learn & teach!I'd recommend this app to anyone learning a foreign language! The features are great and the app is always improving. I've definitely improved my Japanese/Korean because of my language partners and have made some really good friends. The moments feed gives you a fantastic insight into other cultures too! ✓ Best language exchange appI use this to learn Spanish and mainly to practice my speaking skills. It’s great when you don’t have anyone to speak with at home or you don’t have the opportunity to go to a different country and learn the language. Hellotalk is my favorite language learning app because of all of the cool features, translator, corrector, voice notes, calls, etc. They even have a timeline like twitter where you can post anything and also see posts in the language you’re learning. One of my favorite things about the app is being able to search for people by country or city. I prefer to speak with people from PR, DR, or Cuba because I’m working on trying to improve my accent as well as learn the Caribbean dialect. So being able to easily search that way is a plus! I’ve tried many language apps and this is by far my favorite!.Version: 2.4.5

✓ It’s okThis app it’s very good but I accidentally sent a picture of one of my family members and I can’t get rid of it and I don’t know what to do because Someone might screen shot it because it was in a group chat with over 120 people in it and that just bothers me 💀 this is my personal opinion ( i think you should do something so that we can’t delete the messages we send from the chat completely because what if this happens to someone else and they can’t get rid of it ? It will be stuck in that group chat even when you leave it 💀) but Inter then that this is a great app and I recommend it 👌.Version: 3.7.7
✓ Ignore the other reviewsOther people writing reviews on here (especially if you look at the most recent ones) are being unreasonable. It’s not HelloTalks fault that other idiots in the voice rooms say things that upset you… just block or report them, ITS NOT THAT HARD! Every good app like this is gonna have people who use it as a dating app… so I recommend just block people that you don’t wanna talk to. I have had people make more accounts after I blocked them, but just keep blocking them. Also using a profile picture of your face is a bad idea because if you aren’t looking for attention this is a bad way to stop it. HelloTalk is a wonderful and more than helpful app and people need to realize that it’s not HelloTalks fault. Please stop leaving bad ratings when it’s not their fault! Another thing you should note is while you may have great friends on the app, they may not last too long so don’t get to upset, and don’t let it discourage you from making new friends! 🫶🏻.Version: 5.3.10
✓ Great app :)Overall it’s great and, as with everything, there are pros and cons. Pro: This app is an amazing way to practice the #1 language that you’ve been learning even if you already have people around who speak it. Though it can be difficult to find people who will stick with you for the long haul, you can meet some pretty incredible people! There are so many different countries represented that you’ll even be able to learn about many different accents and cultures in your new language. Con: The con is that you should probably be close to the intermediate level before joining. I’ve learned that this is not a place to find teachers as a novice, but a place to practice what you’ve already learned. There will most likely be times when your partner doesn’t know how to express themselves in your language, so you have to have a basic understanding in order to get the general idea of what they’re saying. The translator is great, but sometimes it makes no sense..Version: 2.8.6
✓ Amazing app!This is a great app for language learning! I can't recommend it enough. It has some very unique features, like being able to correct and translate what the other person has said, which I can't find in any other language learning app. It is amazing to be able to freely talk to native speakers and learn from each other. The only fault I would say is that the voice record has a maximum duration of 60 seconds which can be annoying if you are trying to explain something and you have to send lots of records instead of one long one. However on the whole I think it's a very well functioning app with lots of great qualities that I have thoroughly enjoyed using and will continue to use!.Version: 2.4.4
