David Mead : Guitar Gym for Positive User Reviews

Good workout!I've been playing a few years but still find some of the exercises tricky so starting slow! The only reason I haven't given 5 stars is the ear training just involves playing scales or arpeggios in the hope you'll start to recognise them. Maybe this could be improved by having a note sound then you have to choose what it is? It would also help you learn the fretboard notes..Version: 1.0

Great practice toolGood variety of exercise to refine mechanics of playing. Also remembers your top speed for each exercise. Great way to get into the habit of at least a short practice every day..Version: 1.1

Truly great app!!I started playing a year ago and have used this app for about a month. It is so good and i have seen a huge improvement in my playing in this last month. I use it everyday and highly recommend it to players of all levels.Version: 1.1

AwesomeGreat app for practicing.Version: 1.0

Guitar TrainerAn excellent guitar training tool, for any aspiring guitarists. Backed up by first class tech support..Version: 1.1

Great Practice App BUT...Please please please for the love of user interface design add a + or - button to the tempo adjuster. It’s so frustrating trying to get the blasted slider to be at a specific tempo. Also, add a spot where I can take notes for each exercise and fix the whack rhythm displayed for the C303 exercise. Other than these I live this app. Thanks for making it..Version: 2.25

Great workout for flying fingersThe exercises are variously technical and you are basically doing “reps” to increase muscle strength, dexterity and memory. This is just what I need to enable me to play more interesting, creative stuff. It may seem dull and repetitive but once you get into a routine of a few minutes a day your playing abilities will advance rapidly, possibly even exponentially..Version: 2.40

Good app but lots of room for improvementLove the structure and simplicity of this app, and when it only takes ten minutes to do some useful guitar practice I really have no excuse to not do it every day! All of my quibbles with the app are on the technical side - it doesn’t display well in landscape mode on iPhone for instance, and it can sometimes be fiddly to connect to Bluetooth devices. It would also be nice if it made more use of modern iPhone features like notifications, 3D Touch etc., for a smoother experience. Finally I’d really like to see new exercises released periodically. So overall, love the idea behind the app but would like to see more done to keep it up to date..Version: 2.25

David Mead Guitar GymI've been using this trainer for a week or so now and like Mr Meads books, I find it sensible, useable and constructed in such a way that I am likely to do what he suggests. It is necessary to use the Guitar Gym App at least once a day (which I am trying to do). Surely 10 minutes a day is not too much to ask of any aspiring guitarist?.Version: 1.1

Comprehensive warm-up and practice routinePracticing guitar can be daunting (and boring) without some sense of direction. This app provides a comprehensive practice routine touching on the most essential guitar skills. The 5-section practice progression (warm-up, coordination, ear training, stamina, and rhythm) is an excellent approach to daily practice. This app not only builds the motor skills and dexterity necessary for solid guitar playing, but it also builds your ear for common progressions and improves your familiarity with the neck of the guitar. With all of this said, I do have one bit of criticism. On many of the exercises, the recommended picking pattern is only provides for the first couple of notes. I would be very pleased if the developer would include the entire picking pattern for each exercise (this would be particularly helpful for the exercises containing arpeggios). This would be a quick and easy fix, and it would ensure that users get the most of each exercise without wondering if they're picking is correct. Despite this minor flaw, I am highly satisfied with this app, as it allows me to sit down with my guitar and practice with a sense of direction. This app is an e great way to warm up your fingers and become more fluid in your playing..Version: 1.1

ExcellentI already have David Mead's 10 Minute Guitar Workout book, which is excellent, and decided to try the Guitar Gym as well. It's a nice complement to the book, covering the same basic idea (graded repetition of short exercises), but with enough added material to make it worthwhile. As a big plus, I emailed David Mead with a query about it this morning, and had a courteous and helpful reply by mid-afternoon. I think this is excellent service, and an excellent app..Version: 1.1

Great!Practical, simple, effective..Version: 1.1

This worksThis is the best guitar app I have seen so far..Version: 2.25

Excellent, systematic guideEasy to use and I could feel the effect after just a few days. A little more overview would be helpful (the book is excellent for this, tho)..Version: 2.12

Guitar GymGood app, worth the time and effort..Version: 2.12

Great app for guitaristsExercises are superb. Great to have the exercises accompanied with the metronome and sound. Although would be good to have a nice guitar tone rather than the electronic sound. The metronome slider is not good to set specific Bpm values. Better interface control needed. On the whole a great app to help develop regular practice. Happy to help with any ux testing in future. Thanks.Version: 1.0

Useful app, but not perfectA very useful app, but it loses half a star for starting the timer straight away. How are you supposed to move your hand from the screen to the guitar in no time at all? The other half star is lost for saying you can design your own routine, but not giving a way to mark which exercises you plan to do..Version: 1.1

Great app for the purposeI used David’s book “The Ten Minute Guitar Workout” and really liked it, so this was a no-brainer. Does just what it promises: provides loads of two minute workouts to get your fingers moving. Has really improved my speed and dexterity on the guitar..Version: 1.1

Excellent!! But....Could use some fine tuning but excellent idea and works well..Version: 2.25

Best guitar app aroundWorth every penny - use it everyday.Version: 1.1

Really usefulOne of the few guitar apps I regularly use. Helps discipline my practicing and keeps me on track. Nothing fancy, just a useful tool..Version: 2.12

BrilliantReally excellent app - I've been playing for a long time and have tended to just do the same exercises. This has given me a better, more structured approach. 10 minutes a day and you soon see a difference. At first I struggled with the alternate picking but having stuck to it, it has really improved my playing and technique. Also, the variable tempo lets you choose the speed you are comfortable with..Version: 1.1

Very usefulI love the fact you can speed up or slow down the examples.A great app for improving your guitar technique..Version: 2.25

Great AppThis app is just great!! Over the last year I have worked with it and it has improved my guitar playing greatly. Some of the different exercises are a little trying at first, but the app allows for a wide range of speed settings so everyone can work at their own pace. I hope that Mr. Mead produces more apps similar to "Guitar Gym". This app has become a part of my daily practice routine and warm up..Version: 2.12

Quality Structured TuitionA big problem for any guitarist is knowing WHAT to practice; this app gives you five exercises that add up to ten minutes of your time, and if you can't find that, you're not going to improve. The exercises cover different but crucial aspects, with you choosing to repeat or move on from each one, as well as determining the tempo (60bpm is the default). You get tab and playback in time with the metronome, as well as the two minute timer. This app will help you identify weaknesses in your playing, which is vital knowledge in the quest for improvement. The only thing I think that would make this app flawless would be a simple, in-app clean amp simulation, so that all you need to practice is in one place. Well done, Mr Mead :).Version: 1.0

AttilaThank you for this app. It is fantastic!.Version: 1.1

Great!Great for beginners And Advance players.Version: 1.0

Good. But...Good practice aid but lacksa tempo count-in! Needs a "one, two, a-one, two, three" type count-in This would set the tempo and enable guitarists to start at the beginning. It is impossible to start with the first note - impossible unless you switch it on with your big toe!.Version: 1.1

Guitar GymThis app will improve your technique, muscle memory, dexterity. If your serious about guitar - get it..Version: 1.1

If you play guitar get thisI've David Meads Guitar Gym for years now but it's been updated and it's now better than ever. 16 minutes a day can really improve your picking skills and fretboard knowledge, it coves ear training, alternate picking, arpeggios, modes and lots more. It's probably going to b the most useful tool in your armoury and for the price it's a steal just get it you won't be disappointed..Version: 2.12

GreatGreat app.Version: 1.1

Goat statusI use this before I do any other practice . So simple yet executed so well in the app. You can really focus and hone down on your skill.Version: 2.40

Great addition to daily practice routine. This app is a great addition to your daily guitar practice routine no matter what level of guitarist you are. I like the way each exercise is broken down to explain the theory involved..Version: 2.25

Thank guysThe App is very handy I’m using it almost every day and it’s easy to use and it help me to improve my skills 😊.Version: 2.34

Very handy appThis app is brilliant for brushing up your technique whilst syncing with the inbuilt Metronome click ... keeps you honest about your rhythm whilst brushing up your technique. I have the pocket book of this but this app is way better and way more useful to me - I use it for my daily warmups and can’t recommend this app enough- it’s well worth a download. Top marks ⭐️.Version: 2.34

Focused, complete and challenging. This is a very thorough app. It deals with all areas of your playing in a way that is difficult to do on your own. It drags you out of your comfort zone and into the real world of mastering your instrument. If you follow the exercises systematically increasing the speed only once you've mastered that exercise, the app will improve your clarity, speed, dexterity, stamina and musical understanding. If you go a step further and apply what you've learnt to other keys, learning the same exercises across the fretboard and with other chord shapes, you will improve another level. If you go even further still and purposefully apply what you've learnt to songs you already know, your musicianship will improve in leaps and bounds. This app is truly phenomenal, however make sure you continue the work after the 10mins. I often like to revisit exercises that I've 'mastered'. It's worth every penny, if you're serious about improving..Version: 1.1

Love itPerfect app for helping somebody with very clumsy fingers like myself. Have made a ton of improvement over the six months I've been using it.Version: 2.12

Excellent practice toolVery useful and demanding tool. Takes some persistence as the exercises are quite hard, but once the tempo is reduced they become a lot more manageable! But it's definitely making a significant improvement in dexterity and picking accuracy which is clearly translating into my playing..Version: 1.1

A cornerstone to my improvementI’ve found that when I want to learn a new lick or song my hands are already ready for it, dexterity-wise, which makes picking up new songs go much faster. I’ve been using it regularly for about four years. Unexpectedly, it greatly improved my tab reading. I usually use this as warm up to practice. I’ll do five various, two-minute exercises, it’s something I don’t have think much about and can just jump in and knock out a workout and then do whatever’s next..Version: 2.40

Excellent Training AidI am a relative beginner and find this app brilliant! It is easy to use and develops your skills in a simple and progressive way. It allows you to choose your own pace both in the level of exercise and the tempo at which you learn and practice. I would recommnd this aid and David Mead's books to any aspiring guitarist!.Version: 2.12

Great app!Really like this app a lot..Version: 1.1

Excellent app for improving techniqueI have used this app for nearly two years - I use the exercises as a warm up at the beginning of most of my practice sessions. They have helped me improve my speed, dexterity of both hands, rhythm, and my ear for various notes and scales..Version: 2.12

Very useful to any guitarist's skill levelHaving studied degree in music and worked as a music teacher and head of music department for over a decade - I had taken a long break in playing. This app really helped to improve my skills and stamina whilst reminding me about good technique- a little buggy by perfectly functional! Some of the scale shapes seem a little unusual but you can substitute them yourself- some lovely arrpeggios up the neck in the newer versions too- definitely worth it!.Version: 2.34

ExcellentReally pleased with this app I have the ten minute practice everyday as part of my playing session it's improved me greatly. As I progress I can speed up the metronome to keep it challenging....it's cool. Bob.Version: 1.0

Excellent appLove this app, helped me practise my timing and string skipping that both needed work on, I've been using it for about a week and noticed improvements, just a couple of minor moans, it could do with a short delay to count you in before exercise starts and as others have said maybe a more realistic guitar sound, other than that it's a very useful tool..Version: 1.1

Great appUsing almost everyday, nice structured workouts. Having the click track running with each workout helps maintain perfect time and rhythm. And carefully perfecting the tab teaches you how to read tab better in other contexts eg songs..Version: 1.1

Experienced or beginner this ones greatAfter looking for a good workout just to keep my fingers loose, I found it in Guitar Gym. I have been playing for over 40 years and tried load of other teaching apps, some really good ones. But this was the one I needed. I even dropped my ego and started at the beginning and was amazed at just how much my playing has improved. I did cheat a bit at first and went straight for the harder exercises, true. But to get the best forget how good you are and find out you can still learn lot. Really it's about getting your hand loose again, maybe stretching a little. Excellent and worth the low price.Version: 1.1

This rulesThis is the best app ever.Version: 2.12

Great app. I use it most days.Use it to start every practice. Already showing results..Version: 1.1

Great appI've been using this app for about a month, I definitely notice a difference.Version: 2.12

SuperbPlay guitar? Buy this. Simple. It is a great practice tool and wonderfully done. Even if you think you are a great player, there are some great finger workouts to catch you out..Version: 1.1

Really like it!Great idea and initiative!.Version: 2.12

Great AppGreat app. Helps build finger strength and dexterity..Version: 2.12

Good appAs a left only player due to physical disability I would appreciate a left hand option like you have on the caged app..Version: 2.12
