✓ Find another gameI’ve been playing since this game came out (9-10 years). It’s changed ownership a few times but now the game is unplayable. The lag is horrible, game goes down weekly. The developers know the game is actually broken. I’m not even sure how this game is still able to be up. Soooo many people have had to get refunds from iTunes. The game is getting worse and not better..Version: 6.8.7
✓ If I could put no stars I wouldI have played war of nations for around 5 years on and off and here is a honest breakdown: The developers constantly lie from Gree, Rock you and now pop reach around. Constant bugs with the game. If you don’t spend you will not be able to compete. If you want your marriage to last don’t play WON. In return for all your time on the game you get BS lies from victor(some guy in the office in some other guys basement) The game itself is exciting (LOL) if you have spent £500 on a new commander, this last as long as it takes to boil a kettle. Oh and did I mention the £500 commander you have to give half the power back once the kettle has boiled, with no refund.. they called him FU HAO.(ironic really) The events that run daily are great....If you like lots of Lag? A bit like playing on a windows 98 computer with dial up internet but worse. All in all it’s a great game and everyone should try it fir the comical value of the lies from the developers and the fact it has got to be one of the worst developed games in modern history. Wow open a ticket and the first email back is that they are closing the ticket as resolved--but if they find an issue...I have worked in IT support for countless years and I have never seen such a lack of caring, and Total disregard!!! The game certainly had its day, but the days of strategy and teamwork to get stronger and elicit competition have long since been replaced with how much you can afford to spend. ✓ Do not downloadI played this game for three months and the game is utterly pathetic. Firstly, the gameplay is very limited primarily because you can't see what other players' troops are doing unless you are in direct conflict with them (unlike Game of War - Fire Age, for example) and, secondly, because no one can move a base to attack due to the fact it's prohibitively expensive! Thirdly, although you will enjoy being a part of your alliance and you will make friends, the world chat, where you can text players outside your alliance, will be peopled by Stone Age morons who think casual racism, homophobia and bullying are acceptable. I have seen every brand of prejudice aired and celebrated in this game by the 'powerful' players and although you can report them for stepping over the line, they act with impunity because they are the cash cows for the developers. ✓ Original Game No Longer ExistsI literally started playing this game when it first came out years ago (Gree). It was a fun grinder with rewards for time and teamwork. You earned your way into the larger Alliances. You earned the Commanders that led your troops through combat events. You grew stronger by participation and team strategy. That eventually all changed when the app allowed you to spend real money to purchase the actual commanders. No longer did you have to grind or even play - all you had to do was just drop a few hundred $$$ and you could instantly have the best and latest ones available. The day that happened this game began to die. It is now run by spenders! I get on now and then - most of my friends from my original alliance are long gone. The reward for playing isn’t there anymore. Whoever wants to spend the most wins. And this comes from someone who easily spent over $5000 on this game over the years. I can no longer even compete. Horrible "support". Also, the "top players" use multiple accounts to bolster their main account. So you will find someone you might beat... and then get wiped out by their "other" account. ✓ Toxic culture , glitchy gameHow this game has managed 2.7 stars is beyond me. If you are looking for a fun game with a good engine, smooth gameplay and innovative features, keep looking. Perhaps it’s an active and fun player community you seek? You won’t find it here. The game has been bought and sold by PE firms multiple times who make small graphic improvements and introduce new pay for content before flipping it. Events have stagnated since 2013 or so, The code base is full of glitches and incomplete features. Events are very laggy. Player base is worse,toxic, racist and homophobic and in decline. Good players are bored or are driven off by the plethora of trolls that dominate the community. Game is a breeding ground for racists, incels and conspiracy theorists. Pop reach does nothing to prevent these trolls from ruining the community. Children definitely shouldn’t play this game. New placers are given starter packages from 2013 and have to spend tens of thousands to catch up if they want to be competitive. App pop reach has done is increase ceilings on player upgrades and make the game a coin for grind. One of the worst freemium model games out there..Version: 7.4.0

✓ Army Men StrikeI had been playing WON for years until recently a former player told me about Army Men Strike. They haven’t come up with new events in this game for years. It’s the same old cwe/Wars/build events etc.... this game has turned into who has the most alts to hit and cheat events off of. If Won ever gets there act together and not come out with new coms every few months and actually come up with a new event maybe I’ll try to return. ✓ My 10 Years on WoNWell, here I am.. my first review of WoN after over a decade of playing.. to put some context on this, I have seen over 5 game developers. Some being Gree and then Gree, Rock You and POPREACH. The ins and outs are pretty irrelevant. If you’re a new player to this game, don’t bother. It has taken a decade of work on my account to get to where I am, and even then, it’s not all that. There has been nothing new since 2016. Some say that a new commander or boosting the old boosts (game boosts) is new, it’s not and it’s just a money spinner. What the game needs is a new event, but the only thing that’s new is a commander that costs in excess of £400 every month, for the last 5 years. The game that takes, and never gives you anything. If you’re a new starter. Don’t bother. The game is in its twilight days. But hey, join for the sake of saying hello, so you can be banned for the same thing.. Long story short. I started playing again and wanted to start fresh with a new profile. Every time I opened the game it asked me to load my old save, and one time I accidentally clicked it. It brought up the loading screen but said that it couldn’t connect. It has to be due to this, as my friend was still able to play until the next day when he accidentally clicked it. Recently they increased commander upgrade levels from maximums that were achieved by legacy players to promote more spending within the game. After several weeks they arbitrarily increased the cost of all of the upgrades. So I you didn’t spend immediately you are essentially punished with prohibitive costs to advance your army commanders. ✓ Typical greedy GREE gameI have played this game since the start and initially was great! Now it is totally oriented towards cash players. If you aren't willing to spend HUNDREDS of dollars, which I will not do, you are at a severe disadvantage. It is still full of glitches, despite the numerous times GREE has been contacted, it lags, there is no mediation in chats, the prizes for comps are always the same and that doesn't matter as, again, if you aren't spending plenty of cash you won't even be able to finish missions. It is all about how much money you have to spend now. There is no possibility to build up your strength and win any events because you will be wiped out by the high-level coiners before you get anywhere. I get cleaned out all the time by “players” who are 10-15 levels higher than me. It would be an easy fix... make it impossible to hit another player who is more than 4 or 5 levels lower than you. ✓ A most unfair gameIn this game players only have one thing to look forward to. That’s being bullied by maxed out players who attack weaker players forcing them into quitting the game. This game allows them to do this because they pay to play and essentially cheated their way ahead. ✓ War of nations major flawThe gameplay is fantastic but there is a major annoying problem. As the army size and bases get larger, the iphone/iPad starts to lag. Because it lags, we sometimes press the button twice thinking it does not register but it goes into purchasing items with your gold coins unintentionally. It should request to confirm before proceeding with the purchase. However , the developer does ask to confirm when you want to buy extra gold coins with your real money. It may be a way for the developer to make more money by you using up the gold coins quickly but it is not ethical. I have made requests for the change but up until now they still have not fix this major issue. But then again again, they may not fix it as it is raking in a lot of accidental purchases... :( I would probably given this game a 5 star if jot for this fault (IMO a deliberate one)..Version: 1.3.1
✓ Extreme pay to winGenuinely the worst pay to win game I have ever seen in my life. If you want a DECENT commander you need to pay several hundred dollars for it. I’m not joking. Their top bundle is $170. You need to buy that bundle a couple of times to get enough comms to make it good. And at that point it’s not even worth it cause they add a new commander that has higher stats then the one you just bought. It really isn’t a fun game at all. You’ll build up units and then have them get destroyed because the community is toxic, a level 55 will bulldoze a new player and wipe their stuff. Each commander is stronger than the next so your stuck buying good commanders to keep up. The worst part is you need to elevate your normal and experimental upgrades for commanders for their health and damage to be good. This will cost you lots of money and a lot of times the experimental upgrades fail, whether you spent money or were patient enough to wait for the resources to try once. ✓ A waste of 7 yearsBeen playing this game free for 7 years plus. And still being a low level player there is no way I can compete with players who buy into this game. Then there’s the (in game) crybabies who complain about being attacked, so they get their buddies to wipe you out. Which makes you basically start from scratch. There’s also lots of bullying going on also, the higher level players will ruin your game experience, and keep attacking you for days & weeks on end telling you, you can’t play unless you follow their rules which have nothing to game rules. I’ll also mention the world chat in the game. Players on world chat are very rude and call you unfit names while others also jump in and start calling you names. And last but not least is the customer support. In some cases they will cut down on players hate speeches, but will do nothing about the bullying. They just tell you to hit the ignore button, but that has nothing do do with the constant attacks you get, so it’s not worth the time or effort involved trying to get anywhere unless you spend the big bucks. I’ve also noticed that they (customer service) say they keep reporting individuals private, but they must have game programmers (which in no way can you compete against) who play, because my reporting a certain player told me exactly what I reported. ✓ Becoming unplayableI have been playing War of Nations since it was released, and I found it enjoyable; however, within the last few months, I have been unable to play any events except the Campaign. Every base I have gets all of their units wiped out, so I can participate. I have had battles with 3,000 of every type of unit (oil & iron and variety), Defense Grid, and active attack & Defense boosts with a lower level Attack leader, and they wipe me out and I am only able to kill their low end units choppers, tanks, jeeps, etc. Then I have no units to participate in any events. I would not recommend wasting your time,until they are able to balance play and make it more difficult to bottom feed. I think I am going to give them a little more time to fix it before, give it up, and focus on Modern War which is more balanced for novice and experienced players alike. Also if you get attacked you don't receive battle points, and as soon as they added Carbon edition, every base was wiped of units. The people who use gold will be alone if this continues. Every world in the game is run by one or two teams made up of BIG money spenders and they control all the rules of the game. Consequently they continue to win all the events and get all the better prizes/awards which then make them even more dominant. Theres just no competing anymore. Then Gree sold out to Rock You games and its just gone ridiculous now, new comms come out almost weekly, just recently the level 140 comms came out and its only a matter of weeks before 150’s are released. Only the top players (spenders) get these as the comms required to create these high level comms are only available for a certain amount of time. ✓ No way to competeI started playing WoN back in 2013ish, was the most exciting mobile experience I’ve ever had if we are taking games. Easy to compete, some strategy in the line-ups that you used and battle on. However as the game has progressed and its practically pay-to-win, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but you as a lower level player have tons of catching up to do, unless you begin in a new world you will have tons to learn and getting to those top bracket players to which I once was is almost near impossible unless you are dropping hundreds if not a “G” on this game. ✓ Great Game, But lacking new eventsHave been playing this game since it was first released, its changed hands a few times, however due to game lag and crashing historically caused by development, moderators were introduced to try and make the game better and highlight the problems. It has a lot of potential still if changes can be made which would make it more enjoyable. But lack of development and listening to the moderators who have been involved playing the game for years, is making it less enjoyable and playable. Very hard for new players to start without coining as so many different aspects to the game, stops you from getting up to speed to be competitive. ✓ Nothing but problemsBeen playing for nearly a year so can honestly say the dynamics of the game are great and addictive- build armies, join an alliance, attack the enemy, timed missions etc etc. all good stuff as a single player or with your teammates however, Gree's behaviour towards it's loyal players over the months has become so bad now the game has become nothing short of a complete failure. Most players spend money in the game to strengthen their armies which is fine but Gree's attitude towards their paying customers when they mess up is far from acceptable and just damm rude. Expect to pay $100 plus to be anywhere near the top of the leaderboard and when Gree 's server messes up your game don't expect to get anything in return for your hours of playtime u spent strengthening your army. Their servers went down recently which affected every player for a number of hours and has un repairable losses for many of us which Gree won't do a thing about. However great this game is I strongly recommend you don't download it as it will only end in tears and you may well be largely out of pocket..Version: 2.0.1

✓ WoN fun but could do with improvementThe gameplay itself is fun, visually nice and very addictive. However, the interface between players is pretty simplistic and needs improvement. For example, you can't find alliance members by clicking on them (you have to ask them for their coordinates). Similarly, you can't private message people. There is just one open forum for everyone and another open one for your alliance and that's it. I've played many MMO games and the interface on this one could do with some work. ✓ It’s designed to make you spend moneyBeen playing about 3 years now and can say I enjoy it, but it is addictive. People are correct in that you can’t get good without spending, if you read otherwise, it’s rubbish. The strength of the commanders and troop combos is key but those commanders need coin to build them quick, if you don’t, by the time they are maxed they have released new and better commanders. You need to play at least twice a day totalling around 2hrs if you want to progress and stay safe. There are 3-4 alliances in each world that are strong but getting into them is hard, once your in you have to play hard or get booted. You need to be in one of this alliances to reap the benefits of the rewards for winning time based events, otherwise getting stronger takes even longer. It’s good, you chat to people from all over the world (language permitting), BUT, be prepared to spend time on it, it’s addictive, it will lure you in to spend money :-)).Version: 5.0.0

There were events like the lockbox event that were simply just coin events getting you to spend money but there were plenty of events where you could spend nothing and still do well and enjoy yourself. The game has always been buggy and the customer service is appalling but you would put up with that because it was generally a good game that I spent many hours playing. However for a long time now, the developers have decided that coining events are the way forward and you really need to be prepared to sink deep into your bank account to do well at the game, because the commanders you have will be obsolete and worthless within a couple years want you to buy become available. New players have zero chance since there are massive amount of boosts in the game that unless you want to spend thousands you will never be more than a small player in the game. Overall I would not recommend any new player to the game. Too much account sharing, too many boosts, and no protection from players capping your bases and taking everything you have worked to achieve in a base. 8 hrs to cap .
