Bicycle® How To Play for Negative User Reviews

• Needs correction and revision! After again reading other reviews here, and hoping for the best, finally bothered to download and spot-check this neglected app, which presently hasn’t been updated in 2 years. On a positive note, this app does seem to work ok with iOS 13 on a iPhone SE (1st generation, small 4” display). However, long-standing problems remain unaddressed. For example, for 6 or 7 years (!), multiple others reviewers here have complained that the play instructions for the popular games, Hearts (!), and 500 Rum [a Rummy variant also commonly known as Rummy 500 — although the app *doesn’t* even find its rules when simply searching for either “Rummy” or “Rummy 500” (!)], are, actually, incomplete and unplayable (!). Unfortunately, that’s still the case. And that’s seriously inexcusable. Even worse, upon further exploration, we found that 500 Rum, with its incomplete, unplayable rules, is actually the very *first* game listed and *suggested* in the “Discover” section of the app (!). What idiocy is this, you may ask? The product manager over this app has failed to do their job. This app’s provided rules require revision and validation, overseen by a competent editor. Not sure how trustworthy the rules given here for other games might be; but this app ought to be a clear, trustworthy, and authoritative reference, yet it clearly is not. : ( No wonder this otherwise potentially useful app receives little notice! Is that not lame? Is this not a stain of dishonour upon the U.S. Playing Card Company? Please revise and update this app! [Note: We were recently reminded of this old app from its advertisement on the outside of a recently-printed pack of Bicycle playing cards, while purchasing them, and also Theory 11 playing cards, from a new retail store display. Then, shortly thereafter, we spotted this app displayed as “Suggested” by Apple in the App Store. However, in years past, we had actually previously encountered, considered, and dismissed this app, because it was clearly lacking love and attention. Sadly, that is actually still the case at this time.].Version: 2.1

Poorly done for HeartsAll it says about passing in Hearts is after you pass, the two of clubs leads. Passing is one of the most critical parts of the game. I can't believe they left it out of the instructions..Version: 1.3

Great. Until it stopped workingGood resource for card game rules but now the app no longer works. Just see a white screen then the app closes when attempting to open..Version: 2.1

Needs WorkI love playing cards, and I'm always learning new games from books or other sources, so I was excited when I found this app. I found, however, that while some instructions must be read once or twice to learn, others are poorly written, and no amount of re-reading them makes them understandable. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to learn something from an unreliable or inadequate source. This app needs serious work in its explanatory section; it is currently unsatisfactory..Version: 1.3

Rules are incompleteYou cannot be set these rules to learn a card game. This is reasonable if you want a quick refresher for a game you already know but if you want to learn something new forget it..Version: 2.1

Horrible appThis app is missing rules from all their games as if they expect you to know how to play them already. Also I don't think the option for "child" when searching for games is a good idea. The reason being is because no kid is like " I enjoy card games so much I'm going to get this crappy 0.5 star app that doesn't explain anything!" Bicycle needs to get rid of the crappy writers they have and get some that do at least half of what they where asked. Horrible app. Don't download..Version: 1.1

Horrible qualityI was very excited to find this app, I think it is a great idea....however, it is very poorly written. Several games have sections of instructions that belong to a different game entirely. Others have missing parts, and still others are just confusing and misleading. I would expect more from Bicycle..Version: 1.3

Suggestion for additional featureMy husband and I like to track our ongoing scores for the card games we play together. It would be really great to add a score card feature to each game. You can add players to each score card and track your ongoing game play. We have not found an app that does this but I feel like bicycle brand would really be able to make that an amazing feature..Version: 2.1

Needs moreIve been wanting to learn and play some more card games with my kids now that they’re old enough. I downloaded this game after seeing a blog post explaining the game “golf” and purchasing some packs of Bicycle cards, which advertised the app. I looked up golf and there were instructions for six-card golf, but they were lacking in detail, even compared to the blog I read, which had much more in-depth explanation of the rules, along with variations. I then looked up Solataire, which I haven’t played in YEARS. I couldn’t remember some of the finer points. The instructions left a lot to be desired. In the case of both games, if I hadn’t already played or seen better instructions, I would’ve been totally lost. I think they could improve the app by including a few pictures, especially of the setup of the initial playing area, etc. including rule variations would be great, too, since most games have them (ie. Growing up, I remember playing Solataire with the rule that you could only play a red on a black and vice versa and in the “Golf” version I initially saw, it was a nine-card version). Really, this app had nothing I couldn’t find easier and with better detail online..Version: 2.1

It’s alright.I like that there are a ton of options for games to play with other people when you have a deck of cards, but I think if these games were playable on devices through this app would be exponentially better. I would like to be able to play some cribbage or hearts while I’m on the go but all on one app. I guess I’m looking for convenience which I think would also help the company..Version: 2.1

Obvious rule sets are missingCan’t find rules for Gin Rummy, and others. Love that Gin Rummy is called out in the developers description of the app, yet the app has no rules for it. Seems limited. What is there is good though. Just needs more rules before I keep this on my phone. Let me know when you get those in there.Version: 2.1

Doesn’t work offlineThe whole point of this was to have a reference for when I’m off grid, climbing, etc...but it doesn’t work reliably without an internet connection.Version: 2.1

Annoying shuffling sound can't be silencedLoud annoying card shuffling sound each time you do anything. I can find no way to turn it down or turn it off. I am unable to use the app unless this is fixed. I will keep the app on my phone in hopes they will be an update to fix this within the next couple of weeks. If not it's bye-bye..Version: 1.3

Gah! The noise! Please add a setting to allow silencing the much too loud card shuffling noises, for each button press in the app, without requiring us to silence our phone volume. I want to use the app but quite frankly I am unlikely to use it if I have to remember to mute and then later un-mute my phone each time..Version: 1.3

Free app with some issues.Great idea, but there are tons of spelling mistakes. It doesn't seem like anyone did any editing or proof reading and just copied the game explanations from somewhere else. You would expect an app from this type of company to be much more polished than it is..Version: 1.3

Good butThe app works great, but it could use some additional features. How about additional search parameters including betting or number of decks etc..Version: 1.3

Good for game ideas, poor description of rulesNeed more detail in the rules. Great for recommending the games to use depending on number of players and ages..Version: 1.3

Great idea...but...I'm pretty sure some of the instructions are wrong. Because I know that Crazy 8's never was about making pairs. Even if there IS a version that does that it's only ever mentioned in the objective. It doesn't explain how to make pairs..Version: 1.3

500 rumIn the rules it mentions points but does not describe a point system. I was taught 5 points numbered cards 10 for face cards. 15 for aces unless used as a 1 in a 123 build..Version: 1.4.1

Online connection neededThis app won’t load without an active internet connection. So you can just google the rules needed instead of using this app. The app functions as a decent interface but still don’t understand why it isn't useable in a completely offline environment..Version: 2.1

TOO LOUDIt's a reading app. Doesn't need any sound effects; at least let them be muted.Version: 1.3

Don't stop my music!!I was playing music over AirPlay and tried to use his app. It took over the audio and stopped my music..Version: 1.3

HorribleBad app..... It could use A LOT pf work!!!!! The card says it has 75 different Games....But.... No it has none!!!!😡😡😡😡😡😡.Version: 1.3

Pretty goodIts an okay app for learning how to play more card types of games, but you might have to read it over a few time to understand what the rules are.Version: 1.3

Address the cheatingIt is ridiculous to have a leader board when many of those on the leader board cheat by quitting when they know they will lose..Version: 2.1

UpdatePlease update for iOS 11 compatibility.Version: 1.3

Worthless offlineMust be ongrid to use.Version: 2.1
