Don’t touch it with a barge poleI wanted to try this VPN using the seven day trial, and I cancelled it after six days. Cancelled it seemed hugely more complex than necessary and I sent numerous messages and chats in their internal message system. Even then the first month was charged to my credit card. When I queried that, I was told the account was still live. I am still in the process of trying to extricate myself now. I would strongly recommend not giving them your data (especially your credit card!)..Version: 7.1.0

Processor hogI’ve run this on Windows & an iPad for some six months now, and have been unimpressed by the sluggishness and frequent drop-outs. I don’t go “under the hood” much, but recently had occasion to open Task Manager and noticed that pureVPN was not using the CPU but constantly running the GPU (via ntoskrnl) at 25-30%. Switched to another vpn provider and see 3% CPU, 6% GPU usage, sluggishness gone..Version: 8.14.3

Didn't workTried several times but would not recognise my password. However it was easily fixed by downloading VPN express and using their service. I'm sure many others out there work as well VPN express was just the first to pop up via an App Store search..Version: 1.3

Failure on all frontsHi Sam (at) purevpn (point) com I say this without malice or sarcasm; these days, when a product or service fails repeatedly, customers eventually give up - especially if they feel that they can afford to take the loss. In my case, for what I paid, there is still some utility in my Purevpn service. Can it be trusted behave as advertised? No. Should it be trusted to protect me? Absolutely not. Will I use it more than 5% of the time? Not if I want some battery left for the afternoon. But I still have some limited use for it. At this point, only one computer can sustain a longer-term connection without disconnecting every 15 minutes. On an iPhone 7 running 10.3.1, power consumption triples when connected to a purevpn server manually. (The app needed to be uninstalled, it was making matters worse.) On iPhone X, running iOS 11.1, the connection was useless over WiFi and disconnected regularly over 4G LTE - even after app removal and multiple differing servers tried. Both the app and your software completely up to date. When on WiFi, the protocols that needs a vpn most, the connection always breaks when the iOS device is put to sleep and sometimes, at random while awake. On the 7, the connection is somewhat reliable over 3G/ 4G but fails to reconnect to a known WiFi network upon return. iPhone hotspots do not use the vpn for some reason so that's useless. Also, simply enabling the vpn profile, (manually or through the app) even if not connecting, causes the iPhone's sync indicator it appear and spin endlessly (that, however does not appear to cause battery drain) So, between an unacceptably heavy battery drain, lack of a hotspot vpn, unsafe service reliability, failed WiFi connectivity and unexpected behaviour I cannot recommend your service to my portfolio of clients or to any of the people reading this review. But for a $69 lifetime subscription, I rescind my request for a refund..Version: 5.6.0

No connect on demand iOS vpn file setting.The servers and locations work fine with any protocols when the device is awake. Because there is no on demand vpn profile setting it goes to sleep and doesn’t wake back up. Once the phone is unlocked vpn stops working and no internet connection too. Needs a proper iPad appI have been using PureVPN for a while and like the service. This review and rating is based on the APP and not the service. They recently updated the app and stripped out a lot of features it used to have, including VPN Mode support and dropped support for some protocols. They emailed users to advise of this but only after the update launched. The also need a proper iPad version of the app that supports landscape viewing. I do recommend PurePVN as a service, but their app is not great..Version: 7.0.3

Real shameI have been using this app since December 2020 with no issues at all but after the last update I am no longer able to access many websites including iTunes from the iPad when selecting GB as my location. If I select the US or France it works ok. Support are saying that certain websites like major online retailers and certain UK banks are not supported anymore..Version: 8.14.0

Complete scammers. Shut down my Lifetime subscription after 5 years.I purchased a lifetime subscription through The Next Web. After five years my “lifetime” subscription was terminated. Poor and unreliable.Poor service. Very unreliable for streaming, barely ever working on iOS devices. The computer version works better, but consistently damages my network connection (which means I only get internet while connected to PureVPN. If I disconnect, the internet stops working). After taking my Mac to support, I found out it is a common problem with PureVPN, and that there are some command lines to use in Terminal in order to fix this (and I need to run them most times after I use VPN for any reason). Who wants their VPN service tied to your AppleID?!Got better AND worse - now FORCES another Apple iD connection. 2022 UPDATE - App developer response says contact support as more detail is needed. I have been going back and forth with PureVPN support for weeks now - and the issue continues to be either ignored, intentionally rephrased as so something else - and no me tionas to why PurrVPN now REQUIREs an AppleID? Maddening. 2022 UPDATE While PureVPN has gotten better, the iOS software now REQUIRES an extra link attached to an Apple ID to access the app. Yep, a VPN that now forces an Apple ID sign in. When concerns were shared about this nee requirement, support responds by suggesting customers create another Apple ID for this purpose. ——- 1) Requires manually connecting after device sleeps. ALWAYS have to manually connect. Huge PIA quickly. 2) Most tech support chats result in "delete and reinstall the app" or instructions to manually configure OpenVPN. Support is off-shore btw. 3) Too many taps to turn on or change locations. No Today shortcuts for example. 4) May not work with your cell provider ... and support does not know what to do to address..Version: 9.2.0

Refund never happened!Be careful! Once you tried their service if you are not happy they will not let you leave and charge you again and again. Seriously flawedVPN should be straightforward, auto connect and you are good to go. Kill switch gives all the security you need. PureVPN is the opposite, you have to manually set on demand. Customer service is abysmal - don’t buyI bought this service to try it as it was advertised as having a ‘No Risk’ 30 day refund policy if not satisfied. In the event I was not satisfied that it met my needs and expectations and requested cancellation and refund within 1 week of purchase. I am now into my 6th email to the company and am no nearer either cancellation or refund. Every email being answered with various delaying questions, options ( including that I should deal with Apple rather than them). Sold Lifetime Plan - Now Won’t Honor ItA few years ago, they sold a “lifetime” offer on Stacksocial and I bought it. It also seems like their throughputs are slowing somewhat so it may be best to just take this as a lesson learned and find another VPN provider. But watch out. Need improvementI been using purevpn for over too years now, and I’ve seen slow changes to the product. However, I’m still not please with the product ideas of overwhelming the customer with too many features that’re ineffective to the users experience. What I and other customers need is the consolidation of those many features into a single intuitive experience. Im-Pure VPN1. The connection to VPN isn’t automatic after the internet turns on on any device, phone or laptop. One has to manually turn it on every time. 2. Ok on MacBook but Extremely unstable on iPhoneAlthough pretty stable on my MacBook for streaming etc, on my iPhone it’s awful. Firstly avoid the “always on” setting in the app. It locked me out of my phone for a day with a password prompt box which wouldn’t take my password and I couldn’t dismiss. Secondly the connection to the vpn drops randomly and sometimes with no error displayed, often in the middle of performing exactly the kind of activity (email etc) that I want protected when using public WiFi. The help desk are quite responsive but I’ve now tried all the different protocols/manual setup and it’s unstable as anything. If it’s typical on other iPhones (running the very latest iOS) then i wouldn’t recommend it as fit for purpose on a smartphone.Version: 7.0.2

DreadfulAppears modifications to the app without a formal upgrade is playing havoc with this VPN! IT SCREWS UP most of what I use it for. 30/70 some positives mostly negativesIPHONE Been stuck with this app for 6months as I got a subscription. When viewing something like a video or any high bandwith content it will automatically cuts off. As far as I'm aware this is automatic to save bandwith on there side. Totally useless!I used purevpn for years with no issues. Last year (circa Sept 2019) I wasn’t able to login regardless of what I have tried. I thought my subscription must’ve expired so I paid for another 3 years. I was able to login... yet a few days later when I logged into my account I realized that I had two active accounts!! The first one did not expire and now the second one was added. I didn’t bother following up, but now the app is totally useless!! Doesn’t workIf you’re living outside of China and want to use the China servers, stay away from this VPN company. IT DOES NOT WORK. They advertise to use their China servers to access certain contents only allowed in China but none of their servers work. Cumbersome and unhelpfulI’ve been subscribed through apple, but in order to receive service they demand I send them a copy of my apple receipt every month. The receipt doesn’t get mailed to me until several days after the payment is made, so there are three or four days a month I cannot use the service. I’ve also had problems with down servers and generally being unable to connect. Customer service is fast to reply, but unhelpful in resolving these issues. Terrible customer serviceI would not recommend using this VPN or doing business with this company. Not only does the VPN considerably slow your internet connection, they also have some of the worst customer device I have ever experienced. I cancelled my subscription during the course of my free trial but was still charged for renewal. Multiple attempts to get this rightAt first it was disconnecting almost every 20-30 minutes . After deleting the configuration it had installed the first time I download this app and deleting the one I had Manually installed in my iPhone settings before I got the app . I then re down loaded the app and allowed it permission to everything it asked and do it on a fresh setting . It finally worked for about 11 hours before it stop connecting and then I had to disconnect and reconnect again But it worked for a while no problems . So that better then before where it would disconnect every 20-30 minutes . The thing is that if you loose signal . It will disconnect and be a pain to reconnect so be carful with that and sometimes the server just goes down and you have to re install and you’ll notice it will be on a new server when you do . I give it a 3 . It works but it doesn’t do a good job continuing to work after it looses connection for whatever reason. I have to close , and play with it till I it comes back . Inconsistent and disappointing.I really wanted to love this service. Most of the time, though, my favorite sites and services become unavailable and unreachable. (App Store/iTunes for example) Totally defeats the purpose of having a VPN as you have to disconnect it to even get to the pages and services you want to visit/use. Cheap and you get what you pay forThe absolute worst vpn I have ever used, it’s hard to connect or stay connected. It takes a long time to connect and that’s if you ever get connected. I used it for many different things but it was absolute nightmare and cause me to lose money from not connecting. And the customer service is just as bad as the connection service. Not the best, at all.This PureVPN app don’t have an Internet Kill switch. It drops out often, really bad news for when you’re doing internet banking etc. It lacks many many other features too. An Issue in Mainland China, Pls Fix ASAP.When connected, PureVPN provides an internet is crisp and sharp, which I like. However, there is a SEVERE problem: when I try to connect after disconnecting, the “fetching current location” function hardly works (i.e. keeps loading or error ) and in the connection attempt afterwards, my current IP remains what I had connected to last time. So say if my last connected server is Hong Kong, when I start to connect on another occasion with the fetching current location process going awry, the interface indicates I’m connecting from Hong Kong to somewhere I chose. Which is absurd and ridiculous. I do not know if it is only the interface or the way the software is actually assuming. But I am sure that the connecting attempts invariably fail when the fetching process is unsuccessful. I would need to wait for the fetching process to recover somehow to be able to get connected..Version: 5.7.0

Poor Quality App and ServiceThis app blocks my internet access completely when I use it. As soon as I disable the PureVPN app my internet access returns. So called service support are absolutely useless and could not fix the issue despite wasting 90 minutes of my time. PureVPN will not refund me for the faulty app. I have since started using PRIVATEvpn which is Swedish and unlike Chinese PureVPN I no longer have to worry if my data is secretly being hacked. PrivateVPN cost me $65 Australian or $45 US for 2 years. Private VPN uses military grade encryption and does not keep logs or records. My advice is DO NOT USE PURE VPN..Version: 7.0.3

Unbelievably slow speedsI can’t believe I put up with this junk app for the last 3 years!! Unfortunately I was lured into a 5 year subscription and was foolish enough to sign up for the offer without trying it first. Ever since the first day, I noticed that my speed was ridiculously slow and downloads took for ever. A 100mb file would take 20-25 minutes to download and I have rarely seen speeds above 1 Mbps on Speedtest apps. Fortunately I don’t use VPN much, maybe once or twice per month so I bit the bullet since I had already paid for the next 5 years. Despite my many emails and complaints, their customer service only suggestion was to try a different server. Of course that was no help since I have tried most of the servers with no luck. Last week I decided enough was enough and signed up with another app, and boy did I feel the difference!! The new app was more expensive, but is lightning fast. Literally 100 times faster. In the past on Speedtest my speed was 0.88Mbs, but with the new app it would hit 100Mbps. So yes I am annoyed. What a waste of 3 years. Rubbish speeds and trying everything they can to get out of refundingI’m not someone who usually writes reviews for minor issues, however Purevpn needs to be called out on its product and customer service. Speeds using a local server dropped to around 1/6 of what I would usually get. I’ve also issues with device management from work which means Purevpn is a no go. Despite offering a 31 day money back guarantee, I’ve been asked to submit proof of the speed issue (I did), told they could try and fix that (which doesn’t solve my work issue) and offered a years free extension to the 5 years I already don’t want. Disconnects without noticeYou cannot trust it. Bottom line: be extremely careful. There is no notification that VPN is disconnected. You have to check it constantly. Be very careful when using. You cannot assume that it is connected. Check it manually every time you unlock your device or switch applications. Get in habit of: unlock device, switch to pure vpn, connect if disconnected (it is usually disconnected), switch to app you want to use. If you let your device lock, repeat the process. Longtime CustomerI bought this VPN years ago and recently renewed. Has many quirks and stopped working on one of my computers. Tried customer service on several occasions to repair and service, only way is to “chat online”. Being they are from China (strike one) communications is not ideal. VPN on iPhones won’t stay connected. Finally had enough bought a new vpn service and wow everything works with no hang ups. Cancelled the remaining three years of service only to be told “sorry” don’t qualify for a refund. That works like a dream, its fast and stays connected 24/7 and every computer, portable device, satellite box and TV in my house is connected to it. Can't login using iPad appHaving issues accessing on iPad following recent change to login protocols, laughingly intended to "make things easier" for the end user. After a (very) long chat session with Tech Support it turns out there's a bug which prevents users logging in if their PureVPN account is set up using the same email as their AppleID. There's a manual workaround using iPad settings but surely this isn't a difficult problem to resolve. So get your fingers out before we start cancelling our subscriptions!.Version: 8.17.6

6 months on and still unable to loginDownloaded PureVPN 6 months ago and purchased a year’s plan. The service worked for around 8 weeks then suddenly I wasn’t able to login via the app. I was getting an error message saying that my login details or password was wrong and customer support told me the same. Bait and switchIn June 2017 I purchased thos app. In the 9 months I've had it, it has worked 3 times. Only once without having to contact their tech support to redo something in the settings. They stated they haven't received payment from Apple since August 2017. Which isn't true. I was charged nonetheless every month since June 2017 with apparently no service since Sept 2017. I have proof I had been charged and proof of payment made. They told me I had to take it up with Apple. Apple only refunded two months back to me. Beware of this company. If you purchase the app there is no guarantee they will honor the agreement with Apple and you the consumer. I am skeptical of any subscriptions made via the app store at this point.
