Denver Post Digital e-Edition for Negative User Reviews

Good but can be betterI’ve been a reader since April ‘20 after moving here from the Midwest. Although the app makes reading the paper easier I think it could be programmed for even easier reading. I suggest the program give access to the full article if the reader selects an article whose story is split between pages and the reader selects the latter portion of the article to expand and read. Currently the app only displays the latter portion of the article. I’d also suggest moving the article photos to the top of the article when the art or story is opened in the app..Version: 3.2.59

Worse to worstSince upgrade, when I open the app it requires sign in which - eventually, after a lot of spinning/loading time - takes me to the new “customer” web page where I enter my credentials and then instead of going back to the app automatically, like before, I have to tap the “digital products” tab and select Replica. But it just opens the web version of the replica edition with all the clutter and obnoxious layout. I haven’t been able to actually use the replica edition APP since the upgrade. To the Vulture owners of the Denver Post: if you are intentionally trying to run the newspaper into the ground by driving online subscribers away, then kudos to you. I hate this digital experience now, and have already been SO disappointed by the changes at the Post since you took ownership. Since I already have a subscription to the New York Times (I’m a Denver native, so don’t think I’m a transplanted snob), why should I even continue subscribing to your paper when so much of the content is coming from the NYT? I’d appreciate a response but don’t expect one since this app has had about a 1 star rating forever..Version: 2.8.5

Please move the control panelI do enjoy reading the Denver Post on my iPad because I refuse to pay the high cost of a seven day a week paper delivery. The only thing I can complain about is the fact that all the controls are on the right hand side of my screen and that is very easy to touch by mistake. So while reading an article suddenly I will get a magazine advertisement that I don’t want and have to delete it. I think that these controls should be at the top of the screen so that you don’t accidentally touch them while you are reading an article. These buttons are hypersensitive and will be set off accidentally very easily. But overall, it is a good way to read the paper if you don’t want to pay the exorbitant price of the monthly printed issues..Version: 3.2.59

QuirkyI like it but since the makeover there are some issues. The ‘next page’ button doesn’t always work and swiping to turn the page is funky, too. It requires major dragging of the page, sometimes requiring two hands. Also the page jump (where you click on the page where the article continues) doesn’t seem to work. It sends me to page 1 every time..Version: 3.2.59

It’s not terrible when it worksWhen this app works, it provides a nice, convenient way to read the Post on my tablet. Unfortunately, it seems to fail about once a month, at which time I cannot log in. I have a couple of other things I’d like to see fixed before I raise my rating. 1) It is pretty easy to download issues for offline reading and I love that. But then how do I delete a downloaded issue after reading it? There’s no obvious method other than removing the app and all its data, then reinstalling the app? There’s no way that was the intended design spec. 2) when you attempt to contact app developer support from Apple’s App Store, the link is not valid! Please give this app the attention it deserves and fix these piddling easy things!.Version: 2.8.5

Lost features, barely functional, bafflingly badWhat used to be a barely acceptable app became unusable with the late November update. The web version however has improved greatly, highly recommended on the iPad for landscape… other than hyper sensitive article view. In this update archive issues are woefully hidden. Full screen portrait mode is lost to some terrible layout with large, unnecessary, and non-removable header and footer bars. The needless loss of screen real estate on the iPad is unfathomable in 2022. How could this have seemed like a good idea to anyone? Search only works on previously downloaded issues? Why bother with search at all? “Only search issues I’ve downloaded and read” is a great *option* in a search interface but as a stand-alone it is a sad excuse for a feature. This is either unannounced and forced public alpha testing or simply incompetence from developers new to the platform and completely unfamiliar with newspaper content consumption. Hint: Interface elements no longer need to appear onscreen full time at the expense of content..Version: 4.0.0

Upgrade was a downgradeThe pages don’t advance well and, when you want to jump to continue reading an article, more often than not, it jumps you back to page 1. It’s too quirky. For as much as I pay for a yearly subscription, it should work far better. Go back to the old platform. Update: still pretty bad. The latest quirk is advancing to the next page only to find images but no text. Still having problems with page advancement. Update to my update: thanks to another reviewer, I learned the “classic” e-edition version was still available. I switched back and have no issues..Version: 3.2.59

What a sad appDoes anyone at the Post care that this app fails continually. For those of us that don’t get the physical paper, what are we paying for when the replica won’t open 1) because of faulty sign in process that requires rebooting 2) days when the latest daily addition won’t download and 3) now a message that says my internet connection isn’t working RETRY. Yet every other news app I have I can connect to. I would love a reliable source for local news. Unfortunately, the owners of the Post don’t seem to share that goal. What exactly am I paying for?.Version: 2.8.5

Hate the new updateThe prior version was great. You could access old editions. Navigation and reading was easy on the iPad. I liked being able to click on an article and read the text version in the right side column. Puzzles were fun to do on the iPad. Just click on the puzzle, you’re given an option to “mark up” and you can do all the puzzles on the app using the Apple Pencil. Version 4.0 KILLED all of that. No prior editions, no ability to do puzzles from the app (or even download them), navigation is cumbersome. Horrible update, makes me want to cancel my subscription..Version: 4.0.0

Crashes constantlyUpdate: This app has gotten better, but I’ll leave my original one star review as a reminder to DP to keep working on it and improving the app. Why is it so hard for the Denver Post to provide a newspaper app that actually works? It seems to have a functionality issue at least once per week, and I keep having to delete the app and reload it. Today I did that, and it still keeps giving me yesterday’s newspaper. This is a very unreliable app. It often crashes then asks me to log in again, but when I try to log in it won’t let me. I love reading the morning newspaper, but I guess I’ll have to start watching the morning news on television. Ugggggghh!!!.Version: 3.5.00

Not very goodWho ever write the app never checked to see if it worked. You cannot read the Sunday comics; because they are on 2 pages they split and only show part so you can’t see the last part. Not good for reading on Sunday. The prior version had a way of seeing 2 pages at the same time. Also takes forever to load; I guess they don’t have the bandwidth for lots of people downloading at the same time. Who would expect everyone to try to download at the same time in the morning?.Version: 4.0.0

Scrolling and letter problemsThe new version of the Denver Post is more reliable and faster opening. However, scrolling can be slow and problematic because the page sometimes it does not scroll unless you go back to the top of the page and scroll back down. Also, letters are sometimes lower case when they should be upper case and the beginning of the first sentence of a paragraph will occasionally be placed someplace else so you have to find it..Version: 3.2.49

Hello-anyone listening? This is still the worst app on iPad. Today the app started serving up the replica edition of the newspaper inside a web browser interface. So now we get to deal with more ads that slide into view. Watch where you touch, you can get into a loop selecting text, opening a pop-up window with just the article, which you then close only to open it again the next time you touch the screen. The UI also asks for login credentials every time you open the app and it works worse than before (hard to believe). Hope someone reads this review, chances are good since you can’t read the paper with the app.Version: 2.8.5

Latest upgrade NOT an improvement!I have been using the DP Replica app for a long time, and learned to love the digital features - especially the ability to use markup and an Apple Pencil to complete the daily puzzles. It saved me from having to print them out every day. I really don’t want to have to go back to the old days of printing. I tried to copy and paste the Sudoku into another app (Pencil), and it’s very clunky and sometimes “copy” isn’t even an option at all. I really miss the previous iteration..Version: 4.0.0

Can’ t believe how cumbersome it is to navigate thru this. When I sit down to read the paper I’m hoping to be thinking about the content not going from screen to screen tho finish an article. I’ve subscribed to a few papers online including The Albuquerque Journal and currently USA Today. The USA Today app is just plain wonderful to use. Yes USAT has the resources to develop an app that the DP may not have, but I can’t figure out why the publisher wasted their meager resources (money) on this one. In spite of my belief that local newspapers are essential to our democracy I am losing my patience with the paper I have been reading for 6 decades..Version: 3.2.49

Please, Rate Minus Five!Getting better! I improved the rating... Old review: I wish we could rate in minus figures! This app is the worst one I have ever used: makes me sign in at random times, crashes when trying to sign in, does not have the most current issue(s) available when I sign in and does not keep track of my last page when switching from it to the Home screen and another app then back. What a freaking joke!.Version: 3.2.49
