✓ You make it so easy!I find Voice Dream Writer to be the most exciting app to help blind people and others with word processing. Voice Over users now must select text with a pinching inward and outward which is difficult at best. ✓ What a deceptively brilliant appI call this app deceptively brilliant, because it appears to be so simple and uncluttered, but it conceals so much power. It can be used as a simple note taker, but it can also function as a powerful word processor. Its support of Markdown makes it one of my handiest apps, so simple no nonsense to use. Its outline facility makes navigating complex documents a breeze. I like the way its spell checker works and the interesting and helpful features for finding the right words make the app a must-have for those for whom writing is an important task. ✓ High quality; if this is what you need, it works well!I just re-downloaded this app to have another look and see how the update of progressed. Much better now! It is a proof reading app, however, not particularly a "voice to text" app. That is what I was really aiming for. It does work quite well with the built in speech to text engine however. Feature request? How about a character count display? That way I could you use it for composing tweets with far fewer typos!!!? ###### Old review on version 1.0 ...ummm... Either I am being stupid (entirely possible) or this doesn't save the file you made... Which is one heck of a bug! The Voice Dream Reader is a superb app, one of the very best of any kind, but is Voice Dream Reader seems to have failed on this early release. It is reasonable in that it helps you to proof read as you type, but that I pretty much it. Also without having saving your files for you, well ... Less said the better. ✓ Began great, gotten even betterHaving used this app for quite a while, I can't think of writing any other way. The audible feedback lets you know how your writing will sound to someone else. Great voices do a more natural job than the built in iOS reading function. Editing features are what you really need for writing. It is easy to hand off the draft to other programs for page layout, adding graphics or other more sophisticated editing functions. Audible proof reading is so much more effective than visual proof reading, especially when it comes to hearing what your punctuation will sound like. Very responsive developers. ✓ Wonderful text editing appAs a blind person who does a fair amount of writing, it is very important that I be able to use my phone to do some of this writing. With voice dream writer, this is now more possible than it has ever been. As the description says, the native voiceover tactics for selecting blocks of text our touch and go at best. With this app, the ability to scan a document is much more available to us as blind users. The additional tools such as the dictionary also make this app absolutely wonderful. ✓ Absolutely excellent!I know this was probably developed for visually impaired and blind folks. I have to tell you that I used it extensively today – and I'm sighted individual. I used it today to complete a report with about a dozen pages. Very excellent. Accurate to a higher degree than anything else I've used. The iPhone's speech to text kind of jumps when you dictate. However the Voice Dream Writer writer, just like the Voice Dream Reader, is one of the best tools I've ever used. I really like it. There may be some tweaking to make slight improvements later. I know the developer will work on that. And the, I'm going to put in a plug for the Voice Dream Reader, a great way to read books and novels and even articles you download, while on the road..Version: 1.0.1
✓ Voice Dream Writer ReviewThis is a fabulous app that is easy to use yet has many of the powerful features one would expect in a word processor. The added ability to have text read aloud helps proofreading of documents because it seems easier to notice mistakes when the text is read aloud. My only suggestion is that it might be nice to be able to organize documents in folders. I find it easier to group my documents by category rather than have many files displayed on the same screen. I don't know how difficult this change would be for you, and if it's not possible, this is still a great app which I will continue to love and use daily!.Version: 1.1.2
✓ Dyslexics, dysgraphics, and those with poor spelling- this is the app for you!First off, this app does not offer the ability to add non iOS voices. See the developer's other app for that. Second: Fantastic customer service! Third: BEST SPELL CHECKING FEATURES OF ANY WRITING APP! It offers a list and speaks the words it offers as possible corrections. It also highlights all misspelled words. I have used a number of other writing apps, many with TTS. This one is a fantastic tool that will likely only get better with each update. Pros: Best spell checking features of any writing app I have ever used! It has a clean, crisp and intuitive interface that makes it a wonderful text editor. It supports some minimal markup to quickly format text as one writes. It highlights text, has spell checking features that other apps lack. Did I mention fantastic customer service! Cons: No additional non iOS voices available (yet?), lacks some other minor features that non TTS writing apps offer. Really, I would be picking nits if I offered a list of improvements. I recommend this app for anybody that wants a near minimalist writing app with good integration of Text-To-Speech (TTS). It has a great user interface. ✓ Well done!The automatic outliner, the dictionary/word finder and the proof reading put this in a class of its own. But it also has other features that recommend it. You can use simple markdown and export to word and rich text and customize the font size and audio characteristics. It also gives you an easy to use file manager. If you are visually impaired, the features added to enhance editing when using VoiceOver make navigating and selecting for cutting, copying and pasting much better than stock VoiceOver. There is room for improvement, but these developers have a history of improving their apps. (Check out Voice Dream Reader, an app I have used for years.).Version: 1.0.0

✓ First impressions, this app is awesome!I’ve been using Voice Dream Writer for approximately twenty four hours now. It’s been awesome. I am gaining more confidence while typing. The app further underlines how much of a scam braille note takers like the BrailleNote touch + are. This appp has everything from smart navigation, keyboard shortcuts, and even a word finder. The word finder in particular is, i think, astounding. i haven’t found anything so usefull in any other app i tried. . Therre are some features i wish they had though. For example, i wish there was an option for the program to read the letters i type instead of the word. Also the formatting options are proving difficult. The heading option took me about nine tries to master. Other than that i think this app is fantastic value for money..Version: 1.7.2
✓ A Writer's Best FriendI have it--just purchased Voice Dream Writer. So far, my favorite part is the automatically generated outline structure; I believe this will prove invaluable for me. Mr. Winston Chen may've outdone himself. I also like the meaning search. Just giving everyone my initial impressions, this is wonderful. Voice sharing with Voice Dream Reader is a selling point, as the voices are so important for me. It's the variation, imagining what a character might sound like using the voices library ( so, more voices please). I'm hoping Mr. Chen will add more. Dialogue comes alive with quality voices, helping a writer to create authentic, original characters--a writer's best friend. ✓ Great App!Have been using this app for a while now, can honestly say it has helped me greatly. I largely use this app for lengthy communication pieces and does the job well. Areas of improvement, would like to see more development work with google docs, fixing syncing of iCloud files and google apps. Biggest problem for me is being app to chop and change between my iPhone and PC. Would like to see either a web extension on the pc (chrome), linking to third party apps like 'quick bullet', or even deeper integration with google apps. Great app guys!.Version: 1.2.1

✓ Thank you for updating and bug squishing!This app is a must have for anyone writing a book 📖 or writing anything to be read. I as many love to have what i wrote, read aloud back to me and have options for the program to point out grammar and spaces or not. It is like an assistant there with you. I wrote my first book with use of this app I was worried they would not keep updated and improve and get those 🐜 bugs. But As of this review they have made to updates and look to stay on it. When i down load apps, I always check when the last update was. This demonstrates if they care about there app. More then 6 mo to a year i do not download as this reflects on support and you may be left hanging. It provides a way to see an outline of the headings, which allows you to navigate the document by tapping on a heading, and to *re-organize the entire document by dragging-and-dropping the headings*. Moving a level 1 heading moves all of its sub-headings as well, so this feature is quite useful..Version: 1.7.2

He loves the Look Up and Outline sections, which include very nifty features. ✓ I love it!As a visually impaired writer (as in I need to read braille) this app definitely fits all my needs. I can now correct spelling errors easier than ever before, not to mention formatting is also a breeze. Finally, someone who understands we blind people like italics too! And if I decide that hey, I want to stop typing for a bit and listen to what I have so far (cause some things seem good when you're typing them and on paper but when you hear them aloud not so much) I can! Kind of wish you can make it not say the stars for bold and italics but that's a very minor complaint. You can also jump to headings, but I personally prefer writing each scene of the novel indevijually and then importing them into Scrivener (the most popular wordprocessor for writers if you didn't know) which works great! It converts the markdown into RTF formatting quite seemlessly, except for the headings those still show the #s. But once again since I don't really use them that's yet another minor complaint. It's also a bit dificult for me to use the text selection feature with voiceover but that's also fine because I prefer to use the roter for that and move the cursor with my braille display. Speaking of the braille display, the app also works quite good with it as well. I can type and read along with the text to speech; making the words come alive. To sum things up, i really enjoy using it. It works very good with voiceover and my braille display. Even though the only thing I've written with it so far is embarrassing fanfiction but that's not the app's fault at all. I purchased it with the bundle and don't regret it at all. Once these stories are done I can guarantee they will be going straight into Voicedream Reader which I will do a review on soon. But for now it's late and I should probably get ready for bed soon. ✓ Invaluable!As a Ph.D. student, professor, and author, I have found the Voice Dream Writer app to be an incredible, user-friendly resource. The built-in Thesaurus is, by far, one of the best of its kind. Since the first iPad release, I’ve been using Voice Dream’s reading app, some ten years now. This equates to roughly 950+ PDF eBooks (and a few ePub) read (while listening). This study and reading method has provided me close to 100% recall of each book I’ve imported into Voice Dream. All through grammar school and high school, I struggled with reading and composition. If I only had the Voice Dream Reader and Writer during these years, my grades would have been far different, and I may not have been “grounded” quite as much. As a suggestion, if this app also had some basic word processing features, it would replace Microsoft Word for 90% of my writing projects..Version: 1.7.4

✓ AmazingIf you are dyslexic get this app . You won’t be disappointed it’s worth every penny and more . It doesn’t take long to get the hang of it and has cut down my having to go over my work by 90% . As a dyslexic if I had this app wen I was at school I might have actually been able to achieve something academic in my life. I have used voice dream ever since it came out and have relied on it for righting documents , wen they brought out this new app it was like a dream come tru , it seems to be helping me to correct some of my dyslexic tendencies. This has never happened with any other computer program or person for that matter ,it enables me to internalize my problem and focus on it properly , while doing work at the same time . ✓ Super editor for blind userI'm using the ap with an iPad and Logitec blue tooth keyboard cover. I've tried several editors but most have their shortcomings. This one is rather special as the developer has already written one of the best aps to date for Voiceover accessibility. It has useful features such as as dictionary look up, spell checking and proof reading. Since purchase, it has become my default editor. Obviously it will improve as the developer has a history of updates. I haven't encountered the not saving issue mentioned by an earlier reviewer..Version: 1.0.1
