✓ I have a few things to sayFirst of all, I want to begin this by making it clear that I LOVED this game. It is a very interesting concept for a game, ESPECIALLY a horror game. Now, with that said, for the first...3/5 of the game, it was a great horror game, with just enough of a vague story to allow the player to draw his/her own conclusions. But after said point, it became more of a puzzle game. The monsters disappeared, and were replaced by annoying moving walls. It lost both the story and the horror feel. However, it does have many interesting components, such as throwing rocks and clapping to control the sound waves. The realism of the gameplay is also very interesting...how in such a dark place, all you have is the help of sound. Nothing is certain in this game. And I LOVE it. I totally recommend this to anyone, but it only gets four stars because it disappointed me with the puzzle genre part. If this game starts out as a horror and advertises as a horror, then keep it a horror all the way through. You don't see Amnesia: The Dark Descent turning into Candy Crush halfway through, do you? ✓ Woah...Ok, this is a horror game, but it’s disappointingly not that scary, but who cares? This game is absolutely amazing. It uses a great mechanic, has great sound, and is very, VERY hard at times. Really, the only thing that’s scary is the enemies. They sometimes come out of nowhere and and that causes you to panic and accidentally run right into them. Also, the death sound effect. Holy crap, the death sound effect. I usually watch game plays, but Dark Echo is so amazingly made that even a scaredy act like me like it! So there I was, bored and browsing for good games when I saw that this was the App of The Week. I usually just get the app of the week because they are free. So I bought it and saw that it was a horror game. I was immediately like NOPE.. But then when I tried it, it was just so unique and so.. Suspenseful that I instantly loved it! I went to chapter 12 in one sitting. The game starts off easy, and gets difficult as it goes. In a nutshell, what you have to do is use your sense of sound and get out a dark room. There are red lines and yellow and white lines (so far) the red lines are bad, the yellow lines are like switches or leavers or something and the white lines are the sound you made. There is also this ball shaped red thing that follows you if it 'hears you'. This game is just so fabulously made and just so so amazing that I even wrote this loooong review for it xD ~Nikki 💕.Version: 1.2
✓ A Horror Game That Leaves You ThinkingDark Echo is unlike any horror game I have ever witnessed. It isn't concluded by logic, it's formed by imagination and impulse. (Spoilers ahead in what I say next). When you enter that final door, everything flashes white. You hear birds chirping around you. Your character slows to a halt, and then the game ends. It leaves you shaking down to the bone and in tears. 'What happened?' You may wonder. It's up to you to decide that. In my mind, I pictured the guy escaping. He slows down to a halt until suddenly collapsing down onto his knees, sobbing his heart out. Where was he? Who was he...? This was my theory until I reopened the app to see it continued in white and black now. In my head and possibly in his, I see the sounds of birds chirping as an illusion. Just before he gets slain by that nearby red monster, realization hits him in the face that it's just starting all over again. No matter what the poor guy does, he's always stuck in this never ending madness. In conclusion, I just want to say thank you. Thank you for creating such a brilliant and innovative game. I have a small complaint though. As of right now, the game will not stop CRASHING. I cannot even open the app. I really do not want to delete the app because I was 1 level away from completing the Light realm. At first it crashed when I decided to go replay the first two episodes of the dark realm, and now it refuses to let me open the game. I would really really appreciate if you tried to fix this for me. Maybe other people are having the same problem? I just want to finish the game.. --AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS-- The game continues to forcefully crash. I don't know why. The most horrific part is that I was on the last level and can't seem to even open it at all. It's really bad. I hope you somehow manage to fix this. --AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS-- Got so hopeful that the game would work again due to recent updates, but it proceeded to crash. I’m not very obliged to the idea of deleting the app and reinstalling since I was one level away from completing the Light realm as you know. I constantly tap on the game just to see it would magically work, but it does not. Very disappointing. I really hope you get around to fixing this problem. Until then, I’ll keep on tapping the app each day in hopes that it’ll work. My condolences if I’m bothering you too much, I’m sure you’re very busy. ✓ The good, The bad, and The uglyGood: -very frightful when you first enter the game in the dark -uses a stealth mechanic that feels unique to other IOS stealth games. (Throwing rocks, walking slowly, and creating distractions.) -Sound is amazing -enemies are shockingly scary when you run into them. Bad: -The rock is hard to throw in tight situations when trying to escape enemies "sight" -story needs some backstory. (Ex: a good backstory would be how you even GOT there or what is chasing you. Some people might argue that a mysterious backstory makes the game scarier though (Fear of the Unknown)). Ugly: Spoilers: -After you beat level 40 you go into what I like to call: NG+.... In this mode there are a couple changes. Instead of you being in a dark room, you are in a pure white room and you can only see with darkness. Also the enemies are a lot faster and may provide more stress. The only problem with this idea is that all the levels are the same :/. Every level but just a re skin to white. What I got was an innovative blend of horror and strategy. Never before in my life have I played a game so simple and yet so scary. I generally tend to despise horror games, but for this game I have a lot of respect. The graphics and sound are amazing, as is the gameplay. Basically, you are trapped inside of a room and must find the way out using the sound waves from your footsteps and what those waves bounce off of. As the levels advance, you face death and, even worse, are hunted. In conclusion, I would like to state that this is probably the best mix of horror and strategy I've ever seen, and I am completely memorized by the features and gameplay. ✓ Can I have my nerves back?I’m on the ‘Labyrinth’ level My headphones turned up full. Each footstep echos in my head. Each time I let a large location echo go off it sounds like a whip crack in my headphones at full volume. My breathing sounds really loud as I lie in bed in my room with nothing but the strange white red and yellow lines bouncing over the screen, trying to show me where not to go. The strange sound of the ‘red means dead’ blobby lines on the screen making the atmosphere even more suspenseful. The fact that this is all you get on the screen makes for a really great game. Some levels you walk quite purposefully, others more stealth is required. Same with the echos sent out. Really there’s no such thing as run in this game. It’s more walk very quickly in the opposite direction to the moving red thing on the screen. You will die at some point. On some levels this might happen more than once. This can be quite disconcerting as you only make footsteps. So hearing your character cry as he dies gets to you. At least it got to me. This is one game I would definitely say needs headphones. At first I tried without then put them on. Having them gets you more immersed in the game. It’s well worth putting the time in for this game. I’m glad I picked it up..Version: 1.3.3

✓ Simply terrifying 😲I don't bother with many games on my phone, but I do love unique games like this, which are built for a small touch screen. I've tried all manner of games with virtual joysticks etc. But this kind of game wouldn't be possible with touch screens. It is fairly simple to get the hang of, with a few tricky levels here and there, but what makes it so immersive is the atmospheric sound and the suspense of pretty much being blind in the dark. The object of the game is to create echoes (represented by white lines) that allow you to "see" the room. Just like a bat, your foot print character is blind and using sonar... Now for the scary. Level 3 is the first to have red lines (danger) in it. Just avoid those and you'll be fine. Level 4, however, has evil moving red groups of lines that follow and chase you. The visual gets you focused... But then the sounds kick in. It sounds like a hunter from Left for Dead. Creepy, scary, and no fun to hear in the dark while curled up in bed. Five stars guys! ✓ A true horror game.On the App Store, the "Horror" genre is simply 'Get jumpscared 24/7' to make it scary. It's annoying and lazy. However, THIS game took horror back to where it should be, and put it's roots back into the soil it grew from. In Dark Echo, there is nothing. No graphics, no realisation of what's either ahead or behind, and most importantly: no jumpscares! You are blind to the world, and you are being hunted by something that wants you dead. That something, is nothing but lines. You don't know what it is, or why it's there. You don't know why you're anywhere near them in the first place, and you don't even know where the heck (or who the heck) you are! This brings forth the part that makes the game truly horrifying: Your imagination is the graphics, the plot and the game itself, which (Spoiler alert), will never end. ✓ Suggestions for new features.Ok, I love this game, but it’s sometimes glitchy and always annoying. I’m just salty because it’s hard, but seriously one time I threw a rock and lead all of the monsters into one corner, and when I lead all of the back, one of them teleported or something. There was still one there when they clearly all left. (I counted) It’s a great concept, but maybe a level maker would be cool. I understand if you can’t implement my ideas, but I just think it would make the game a little bit more interesting. I’m stuck on level XXXIII and it’s glitchy as heck. All you have are your wits and hope as you travel through dark rooms. It may not seem like the enemies are scary as all you are up against are red lines but when you die you hear a gruesome grinding sound that makes you wonder just what is your enemy. The gameplay is so unique as well as you are completely blind with only your footsteps to guide you. There is also the risk factor in every level after the enemy is introduced of whether you should try to grasp your surroundings or slowly creep and hope not to be noticed. You just don’t get much more creative than this. But seriously, fix the dad gum rock mechanic! It’s quite unresponsive, it just feels weird to have to draw a line off to the side, and don’t even talk to me about trying to throw one while in the water while not budging enough to blow your cover.
