✓ Lots of bugs at this timeI have had one revel textbook in the past and it worked great and was really helpful. I just started my 14 day trial for my second textbook with revel and the highlighting features and text to speech audio is not working. It will only let me listen to the first page of a module and sometimes it wont let me highlight certain parts. I just switched over from my Ipad to my Samsung phone and the app is working just fine with no issues so I believe its just the apple version that needs to be fixed..Version: 8.10.283

✓ Poorly madeIf given the choice between this and a textbook, I would go with a textbook every time. It’s not a terrible app, but it is very poorly made. Free apps have a better interface, fewer glitches and go down less frequently. Since this is tied to education, maybe they should get some first year software design students to remake this app for extra credit. ✓ 3 1/2 It’s good but with issuesIt’s good to have this app, I can listen to chapters anywhere. But when it comes listening to the audiobook, it has problems. There are times when I’m trying to listen to a certain section (i.e. let’s say chapter 6), but the “narrator” would go waaaay back and start reading the first chapter. It doesn't matter if I click on the certain chapter I want to be read, the app will have a mind of its own. I have to close the app completely and do it again..Version: 4.1.134
✓ Good but has very bad tendenciesI like having my text book on my laptop/phone but what is the point if the highlight feature that was implemented only works at times.. I like to read the text, highlight the important stuff as I go, then go back to it and take notes when i finish that whole section. On numerous occasions I have came back my highlights/notes were not saved. I am double majoring, dont have a lot of time to have to go back to re read and highlight what I ALREADY did. please fix that. the few times the highlighting works it’s not up to it’s full potential, for ex. — I highlight stuff on the app/website but if I switch over from one to the other it & it isn’t there — I highlight on phone thru the app OR laptop highlight thru website, then switch to other device its not on THAT device if that makes sense. so I have to switch back to my device I original took notes on to see my work on that section. that also should be fixed. other than that, great..Version: 4.1.120
✓ Good App but some issuesThis is my second class using this app and while I love the ease of access, I’m a little disappointed by the lack of in-depth study materials, the trouble connecting the audio, and it says it is supposed to sync your progress but it never does and I have to go back and find my spot over and over again (when reading or listening to audio). ✓ Terrible and annoyingThe app is poorly organized and has very annoying tendencies. For instance, when I try to highlight a section of text, it for some reasons will automatically scroll to the very top of the page. I could stop it but when I released my finger it continued to scroll up. When it reaches the top of the page it just stays there. If I try to scroll down it will again scroll itself to the top by itself. I have to close the app to make it work again. I just need to highlight a simple definition but can’t, which makes my homework assignment take even longer. When I registered for a new course it refused to download. It would just show 0% and do nothing. Then it finally started to download after closing the app multiple times, but once it reached 100% it somehow went back to the little cloud icon and showed 0% again. It wouldn’t let me open the course either. I ended up just deleting the app and tried again and it finally worked. I’m a busy college student, I don’t have the time to try to get this stupid app to work properly so I can study and do my homework..Version: 4.1.127
✓ Helpful concept. Needs bug fixesI love the fact I can read my text book/study anytime however having constant issue of “server error: there is a problem connecting with the server. Please try again.” Which does count for me reading the pages,and I can’t answer questions in at the end of a document. Luckily I can still answer the quizzes fine, but the constant pop up of the error message is quiet annoying. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling, same problem..Version: 8.6.268
✓ Awful ExperienceAudio function would be great if I could choose what I’m listening to. The button don’t do anything at all if I’m not on the home page. Device sync is slow. Journal entry is broken, I cannot make any contributions because any word that is autocorrected causes the entire field to erase. Also happens when a word suggestion is selected. Dark mode is inconsistent, no font or sizing support, I can’t just read a full text. It’s just overall really restricting. This sucks because I’m forced to use this for my classes. ✓ Horrible appThis app is horrible, The reason being is because you can’t even take proper notes on it. It doesn’t highlight the right stuff or sometimes a certain color to stop in for the highlighting option and you can’t even change it I have to shut off my phone and turn it back on just for the app to work and this is on an iPhone 11 Pro Max iOS 14 like come on they can’t even make an app that works properly. Please fix this issue it’s so annoying when I’m just trying to finish my online school work. ✓ Good idea! Bad executionThe idea of having your readings, assignments and quizzes all in one spot is great to keep things simple and organized. However the app is not enjoyable to use. It is in general an annoying experience. Unfortunately you cannot split screen this app to take notes or put it in portrait mode. The night mode is difficult to use when wanting to make highlights as I find myself having to re-select the text multiple times to get it correct. Several times, I save my drafted text only to find out it didn’t save at all and I have lost my text. ✓ Doesn’t save my notesThis app is cool to have if I want to do some homework on the go, and I definitely utilize the note-taking feature. But when I add a highlight and type in extra notes & tag the note for the highlighted phrase, it saves for the moment. When I add another highlight though or edit a previous one, it deletes the other notes I wrote and the tag for the previous highlighted phrase. ✓ Never worksThis app is constantly having problems. It’s a great concept and when it works it’s great but the problem is it never works. ✓ Time waste.Horrible customer service, they lie first of all, so if you're a student, just be ready to not have any access to necessities via app for a while. You'll lose studying time. Even though they have the biggest ideas of online access to courses and having technology and school meet in the middle, yet they make it so difficult to be a part of it. ✓ No ebook download and poor user experienceTalked to tech support and there is no download option for my ebooks. I can only access my ebooks through the app, so ridiculous!! If I want to access my ebooks, I have to keep the app in my devices all the time, and you guys get my data as well. You win!! Not only that ! ✓ Buggy and InconsistentCool idea in theory to have an app for textbook readings but needs a lot of bug fixes and attention to detail. Particularly bad in interactive sections (ex: matching games); my touchscreen input bugs all over the place, scrolling up and down inadvertently and inserting incorrect answers while also switching them around on me, making them borderline unusable. These are for real-life University marks, making the lack of user-friendliness extremely frustrating. Sometimes, the interactive section will not even load on its designated page, giving me 0% completion by the due date because I never saw the section in the first place. They have also been out of order with the text and marked out of 1. So even if you get 8/10 correct, you get a 0/1 for the task. The highlighting function also needs work. When attempting to select text to highlight, a pop-up menu will cover the rest of the text before I’m even done, so I can’t even see what I’m trying to select. Great idea for an app but frankly irresponsible and disappointing to have a product out which is so hard to use and has lost me real-life marks. ✓ Textbook disappearsI’ve only use Revel for 2 months and it drive me crazy, the textbooks disappear for 2 times although I paid for it just like everybody else. It’s been more than 3 days and I can’t use anything anymore, not just me, plenty of my classmates have the same issue too, my prof. even have to defer our assignment. ✓ Get it together...I have never been more frustrated trying to read a textbook. The app is more confusing to me than it is helpful. Chapters don’t have a drop down link to access the pages in between the chapters (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and so on) so I can never access what I need right off the bat. I love that I have an option to listen to the text while reading along, but paragraphs are being skipped and when I try to go back or restart the chapter, it malfunctions and the audio starts from the very beginning with an introduction of the textbook. Highlighted notes don’t seem to be saving either. If I skip to the next page and return to the previous one, all the texts I have highlighted disappear. Figures and interactive content rarely work as there are no tablet/mobile options no matter what size your device is. ✓ Needs improvementI love having my textbook and listening to it on the go but the control center for the audio functions poorly. It’s difficult to rewind and fast forward without physically opening the app. I would like a 5-10 second rewind or fast forward feature when you’re outside of the app. The app tends to get stuck when trying to select a new section to listen to so it’s a bit buggy. Another area in need of improvement is the highlighting and text feature. I have difficulty being able to easily click on my highlights and view my notes without tapping around a bit. And at times, it’s difficult changing the color of the highlight without having to reselect the whole text all over again. I have to play around with it to work properly. ✓ Incompatibility (iPad 9th-gen)The concept of this app is great, however it falls short because of its interface. I believe this app would benefit highly from a portrait-view mode instead of being stuck in landscape. (In fact, I thought the problems I was having with compatibility stemmed from a bug that didn’t allow me to switch to portrait mode.) In addition to making textbooks much easier to read, it would solve the problem of embedded files and review questions being squished to the point of being unreadable/inoperable. Review questions would be missing some of their answer choices, and the format just looked horrible; despite having so much space on the margins, the text just decided to squish in the center of the box, taking up a mere 20-30% area of the whole square. ✓ Pearson Revel does not support Self-LearningPearson Revel is a good concept, but one should not have to have a course in order to access the material that they paid for. If a teacher does not set up a course online but has the student buy the book with access, then the student should be able to still access the material without trouble. The fact that the teacher needs to set up a course online through Pearson just for the student to access material shows that they are greedy and do not have the best interests for students in mind. ✓ Partially WorksI love the concept of this app and severely appreciate the effort that was expended into creating it. However, I have encountered the same issue consistently: I cannot download my book so I can listen to the audio without WiFi. I’ll press the “download button,” and it will say it’s been downloaded, but I still can’t listen to the audio unless connected to the internet. I have very limited data and work full time, so I rely heavily on the idea of listening to my textbooks on the drive to and from my job, but I can’t get the app to work. ✓ Audio NarrationWorst app I have used in a while. Every single time I try to listen to the audio narration of a chapter/section in the book. I have to frequently go look for the next section and press the button for the next section every 2 minutes. Why can’t they do the same thing like audible which goes from one section to the next without you having to look for the next section and press play? If someone for instance is driving and trying to listen to the audio version (bluetooth wise in their car) that is absolutely a distraction and a waste of time since you cannot concentrate as efficiently as possible without having to press for the next section. ✓ Good start, but needs fine-tuningI have had no overwhelming issues with the app, audio and reading both seem to work. However, to get this app to something I'd actually find useful, there are a few quality of life things that need to be fixed. (1) Highlighting - when highlighting text the pop up that lets you choose a color is poorly placed. More often than not, it pops up directly over what I intend to highlight. A better solution would be to have it always appear above my initial selection. (2) Notes export - when exporting notes, Revel truncates the note after around 150 characters. Anything after that does not get exported, which often makes note export to PDF useless. Removing the truncation from note export will make it a feature that can actually be used. (3) Sync across devices either takes too long or simply doesn’t work. Fixing this to operate like other digital textbook platforms would put this top of class..Version: 8.1.251
✓ Works okay but desktop version is just too superiorI’ve had to use Pearson+ before using Pearson Revel, and I don’t know why this is but, when you play audio from a section of a textbook, it only has audio for that FIRST section and doesn’t have audio for the subsequent sections. So, even though I have “7 pages” of content to read in a section, only the 1st “page” has audio, the next 6 don’t; it just repeats the first section over again. Why? HOWEVER, if you’re using Pearson Revel on a computer/desktop, you can play audio for all the sections like you’d expect. ADDITIONALLY, the computer/desktop version of Revel has more audio speed settings to choose from (I prefer 1.25x speed and the mobile app for some reason doesn’t have that). This app just makes me wish Revel and + were compatible back and forth. Pearson+’s app doesn’t have any of these QOL issues..Version: 8.10.283

✓ Disaster. HopelessI have ADHD and paid for my academic book in Revel because of that. It’s a big headache. Whenever I pause the reading it goes on underneath and I have to waste lots of time and energy to find the line in voice. Especially when I have test it’s really annoying. Every chapter the reader is changed and they have different method and speed for reading. It’s not good. I can’t read the book myself and I’m in pain. ✓ Some update ruined everythingWhen I first got this app everything they offered worked fantastically. That doesn’t mean I really liked the app, it just worked the way they said it should. I was going to rate it after I finished my course but then about a couple weeks in my app completely stopped working. Before I would read my book and play my audio when I could in my car from my phone. Now I can’t read my book or play audio from my phone. The only way I can read my book is on my iPad which is obviously not as mobile as my phone so I feel this is really hindering my ability to thrive in my class. ✓ By far the worst product or app I’ve ever owned.This app has not worked for me. Continually lets me log in but says my subscription has expired less than a week of ownership (less than their textbook free trials) I’ve called their support multiple times sometimes waiting more than a week to hear from them on progress while checking multiple times daily. I’ve wasted HOURS holding and waiting for a resolution. I’m not exaggerating I have time stamps, screenshots, and emails to prove it. ✓ Isn’t perfect, but does the trickI use the Revel app on my iPad Pro, and although it allows me to read my university textbooks, there are some glitches and missing features that sometimes get on my nerves when studying, such as: - Lack of split screen functionality (which I use with OneNote often when taking notes from my texts). This especially is a big source of frustration for me. - The highlighting feature is a little buggy—if you don’t highlight your text properly the first time, the option to highlight goes away and you have to start over. - Some of the extra practice questions and interactive figures just don’t appear and aren’t able to be used. ✓ Keep deciding it’s not going to workNot only every time you write something in a text box in my book it shifts down so you can’t even see what you are writing and can’t see the question, but also it sometimes decides when it’s going to let you into the quizzes and tests. ✓ A Frustrating IssueAlthough this app is fantastic on many levels, there is one particular bug that I wish would be worked out as soon as possible. I have an iPad Pro, and with it I like to take hand written notes while simultaneously viewing the work. iPad Pro offers the ability to open two windows at a time. The REVEL app does not allow you to use this feature to its fullest extent, as it does not shrink/fit into a workable window when working side by side with a note taking application. If you could remedy that, I would give it a full 5 stars. Seeing, however, that this is seriously hindering my note taking ability, it is to frustrating not to knock it down a couple stars, since it is an educational app. Fix this, and I will change it to 5 stars..Version: 2.0.084
✓ HAVING DIFFICULTY SINCE UPDATESince I ran the update, that I was forced to, the app has not run the same. It will not proceed to the next module with out exited and scrolling through previously read modules. On the first quiz I took, the program glitched and told me I had the wrong answer. ✓ Incredibly disappointing and inefficient for studying.Split view is unsupported, so if I want to take any notes on my course textbook, I have to constantly flip between apps. The in-app highlighting feature is useless, you have to select the text, tap it, then select highlight. In the long run, you spend more time trying to highlight something rather than quickly reading and annotating course material. It also doesn’t correctly highlight with the color you select 90% of the time. Switching color modes also does not work 90% of the time. I am utterly disappointed that the required text for my course is on this app. It is so buggy and useless and probably the biggest hindrance to learning. ✓ Update was a step backwardsThe intention of the update where the read aloud option goes uninterrupted may seem more convenient but in fact it was the opposite. It may be convenient if you have the time to sit down and read entire chapters but if you are like me and like to read small sections at a time whether it be during a lunch break at work or in between classes, this new feature makes it extremely inconvenient to navigate back to the section at a future time. It makes it so you have to fast forward through the entire section to pick up where you left off rather than just press play at the top of the page. Another issue is the playback speed resets back to default 1x after every page which is extremely frustrating. ✓ Read aloud is frustratingLove the option that I can listen to my text book during my commutes, but the app always locks up/freezes and logs me out (but is somehow still playing) and I can’t pause it when I reach my destination. I then have to close the whole app and find later where I was at. Not sure if this is a bug? It would also be nice to have an option to bookmark where I left off listening, or have it automatically remember - it takes so much time having to find my way where I was, especially because it doesn’t ever allow me to start the audio where I want it to begin. ✓ This app is infuriating.What’s the point of an offline download if it makes you download the entire textbook before you can begin reading? Not to mention that the download process takes FOREVER. The entire reason I branched out to use this app was because it’s near impossible to read on a mobile phone through google. There are too many issues; another one being that the highlight feature doesn’t work, the book audio is glitchy and laggy, and overall the app is just slow. I was already reluctant to deal with an online version of the textbook just because the publisher of my book lied to my professor, saying that there aren’t any physical copies of the book. ✓ Really frustrated at the latest updateThe latest update changed the UI a bit making it hard to listen to the audio for a section. I need to back out completely from the chapter and section I am on to access the audio folder, for which I then need to scroll all the way to the section I am on while it plays the introduction of the course. The previous UI allowed me to click on the audio in the top bar where it automatically played the readings of the part I was on. ✓ Not great for auditory learnersThe app does not keep a bookmark for auditory learners. Any time I have to exit the app to take a phone call or something, I have to start listening from the top of the section. ✓ Text to speech spottyI’m really intelligent, but I’m also dyslexic which means that the text-to-speech feature is VITALLY important. The feature works within the main chapter introductions but is not functional in the chapter subheadings, for example 1.1 Key Features in the Dynamic Child. However the feature is available in the desktop version, but that doesn’t help when you aren’t in front of your desk computer or laptop. It’s annoying also that somehow the app has disabled the cut/paste feature because I could use my phones text to speech feature that way. But alas, that isn’t a possibility. ✓ Horrible updateWhile I like the convenience of having my mandatory e-textbook available to read on my ipad, the update after ios 11 has definitely been a step back. I have to keep logging in... no not with my touch id, actually log in like I do online. There isn’t even a choice to keep me signed in. I can take the smallest break during a chapter by just checking my email, but when I go back to the revel app, I have to log in yet again, AND they don’t save my spot, so I have to go back to the table of contents to find the chapter I was on and then relocate the page I was taking notes on. ✓ Works ok. But not great 🙁This app is ok but does not work as fluidly as other apps like Apple books. I also think it would benefit from supporting the Apple Pencil so you could more easily highlight books in the app. The audio book integration is not great because the skip forward and backward buttons take over the whole screen if you make the slightest swipe up which is very annoying. It is also easy to mess up the audio playback when going through the book and when you do the audio restarts at the beginning of the section.
