Focus Matrix – Task Manager for Negative User Reviews

Good task organiser but could be much betterYou cannot fault this app for simplicity in use and design. There are a couple of quirks that are annoying. When you are entering a text on an iPad you have to press return before you can do anything else, such as ad a due date, note etc. Why have I given only 3 stars? That is because the tasks only have a due date whereas I am looking for a task manager that has start and due date with progress shown. Another reason is the lack of documentation: for example, there is an inbox but I have no idea why it is there nor how it should be used. I have contacted their support email address and it took two days before I received a reply and their response was not sympathetic but the attitude was more like someone talking to a young child.Version: 1.5

Still issues with completing tasksPurchased the Focus Matrix and BeFocused pack and although both are really awesome at sorting and handling tasks there seems to be an issue with the syncing of completed tasks. Tasks that I have mark completed seem to keep popping back as tasks that still need to be done even though i have marked complete and tasks I create seem to not save. I really hope they fix this cause I was just talking with my company to have these apps on our all our work phones as its remote work and these types of apps are crucial in staying on top of things. But these issues must be ironed out before moving forward. Really hope it happens thanks.Version: 1.5

App does not sync with my Mac appI payed for the full version of the app so that it can sync on my Mac and my phone but it has only done it once. As far as the premise of the app, I am happy. It helps me to organize all the buzz in my head and helps so much with anxiety. I struggle with executive function, and the app really helps with that. But the fact that it won’t sync is really frustrating as I do most of my planning on my app and need to be able to check on my lists when im not home..Version: 1.6.1

Intrusive Data HarvestingThis could be a good market leading app but the developer needs the users details even for full fee paying pro users for functionality which could easily and be delivered via iCloud or Google, while respecting their privacy. Really seriously! Somebody tell the developer we are in 2021. I have already requested Apple for a refund for all the apps bought from this developer!! First I thought: Wow this is a good app with no monthly trap fees and then I discovered it requires data through a registration. Upon reading the privacy statement, the name and other details are all harvested. Clearly the users are the product and they are paying for that privilege. Sorry Guys..Version: 1.4.1

Product is good but desktop sync is missingDesktop sync feature is not in this app, which is the biggest drawback of this product..Version: 1.6

Excellent App by far- needs web based integrationUpdate - have been using the app for awhile. Great standalone functionality (as I mentioned previously) but I rarely find it useful anymore without Web- based integration for Windows because of all the manual entry. I don’t recommend this for users using Windows unless they resolve this. I’ve tried many apps to manage tasks using the Eisenhower method and this is the best app by far. The user interface and functionality of due dates and calendar integration is excellent, many others fall short on the ability to move around and reorder tasks as needed. The only feature I hope gets developed is the ability to use this on a Web interface and sync to my phone. Managing and entering all the data on my phone is not ideal, especially when most of my work is done on a Windows based laptop for work..Version: 1.1

Not so flexible and room for improvementI like the idea but the interface is a bit clunky. Day to day, I got a little frustrated that I could not work out how to list task in date order. The sync with calendar is a handy feature but would prefer this with an 'all day' feature so my calendar is not clogged up with tasks at all times of the day and night. Overall, a clever idea but needs some refinements..Version: 1.1

Good, butAs a stand alone tool it can help create some focus, although its not an immediate fix (its only over time that you learn to work in such a way that creates less urgent tasks). I love the idea of an easy to use “eisenhower” matrix, although purchased it to link with the excellent “BeFocued”app. Synching with that app produces some very strange sequences of tasks, which gets really annoying when trying to work for the day using “BeFocused”..Version: 1.3.4

Crashes with Pro versionConsistently crashing 15 seconds after opening Very disappointed to have spent money on an app that does not function.Version: 1.3.3

Almost perfectI will be giving this app a 5 star when the following changes are made. I have the suit by xWave; focus matrix, be focused and now their habits app. The pomodoro timer is very helpful especially with the assistance by the focus matrix having both is awesome. There are a few must have fixes though: the integration with iCal is SO helpful. It would be nice to be able to select a different calendar for each task as well as having the ability to set times to work on said task. Essentially, having the iCal settings available while setting the event up would be out of this world. Tags need a complete overhaul. They’re very necessary but the current set up doesn’t seem to work... Split fullscreen on iPad and mac is a must (please fix). Please allow Focus Matrix and Daily habits to sync. Look out for this developer, they’re doing some of the best work out there. If you are in need of organizing your life buy all their apps, before they’re way out of your price range. The matrix is very helpful and keeps me extremely focused. Definitely going to give this a five stars after these changes..Version: 1.1

Can’t close the nag screenHas potential but really annoying as you can’t close the nag screen to upgrade. You need to force kill the app and restart it..Version: 1.3.3

Easy to use, all that's neededFirst day of using for heaps done! Great app!.Version: 1.1

Works great until it doesn’tI paid for the version to have it on multiple devices. It was working fine for months, but then it stopped syncing across the devices. I had to restore it by deleting it, and adding it back on. The option to restore from a local server or not was confusing. I contacted Support, but their answer wasn’t clear. So I took screenshots from all my devices and just chose one on my own. I put back the missing tasks and it worked fine for a few more weeks, but the problem came back. I’ve just transferred my tasks to Apple notes and I’ve been working off that. I don’t want to deal with this issue again. Too bad, because I liked using this matrix and having the system in place..Version: 1.6.1

Room for improvementThis is pretty much great and intuitive to use. Key improvements would be: - a web-based app, Chrome app or Win10 desktop app so that those of us who don’t use a Mac could work on our desktops; - ability to nest tasks within a project - the tags function is sort of useful for that, but you can’t add additional info like an overall completion date or notes about the project to a tag; - ability to drag-and-drop tasks between panes, rather than editing. That’s it for now! Cheers!.Version: 1.3.1

WARNING! You might lose important tasksI was finding the app to be very useful until I logged into my laptop and didn’t see the task I was going to focus on. It was still visible on my iPhone and had not been completed. Then it vanished. No warning. It had not been marked complete. There is no folder for deleted items. Poof. Gone. I grabbed a screen shot of my iPhone before the task vanished because I’ve lost tasks with this app before. This is a critical flaw..Version: 1.5

MacStill disappointed in Mac version. Does not integrate with anything. Mobile version works seamlessly. Don't waste money on desktop will not sync wit Focus Pro. Waste. Full disclosure. Thank you for the response. Unfortunately after purchasing the Mac Version when I try to launch in Focus pro it says 'there is no internet connection'. Does not launch nor does it sync with other devices. Disappointed. This was the reason I purchased the desktop version that has now become useless. I have to add separately in my phone to launch in Focus pro after purchasing all upgrades..Version: 1.1

Unable to create account for syncingPurchased app on both Mac book pro and iPhone. Works fine on MacBook (not yet played with on iPhone) but main issue is I am unable to set up an account for syncing purposes. Tried setting up account on both MacBook and iPhone and it says it’s not possible. Hopefully developer will respond with a quick fix..Version: 1.3.4

Good app, but missing features I wantThis is good Eisenhower matrix app. But there are three improvements I wish it had: 1. the ability to choose if you want a long task title to be cut off or to wrap around to next line 2. The ability to add repeating tasks, like daily exercising or taking a pill. I want to be able to complete it and have it repeat the next day. And if I don’t complete it, it should show me how many days overdue it is 3. Also, I would like to quickly make task with default settings in place. For example I want to simply click on the empty space below a task and begin typing. I find it to be a mildly inconvenient to have to press the plus sign and then go through all the details every time I want to create a task.Version: 1.3.4

FrustratingThe app is useful but free use is very limited. My main frustration is that you can't export your list as csv, only as PDF. They make you pay for any useful features. Most apps would have csv export as a basic service so not sure how the app owners can justify this!.Version: 1.6.1

Upgrade not workingBasic app is ok. However upgrade isnt working properly. I emailed customer care and no response. Don't waste your money!.Version: 1.0.1

Crashes every time it launches. It's good that it works with Mac, "just" another $6.99 or so. But the iOS app crashes all the time. I have to restart the app a couple times before I can actually use it. Please fix PLEASE FIX THE IOS APP!!! PLEASE FIX THE IOS APP!!! PLEASE FIX THE IOS APP!!! PLEASE FIX THE IOS APP!!! PLEASE FIX THE IOS APP!!! PLEASE FIX THE IOS APP!!! PLEASE FIX THE IOS APP!!! PLEASE FIX THE IOS APP!!!.Version: 1.1

Not sure of process/can’t find helpWhen I complete a task, it appears I have to delete it rather than marking it as finished. I haven’t found anything in the app that allows me to look up help or contact the developer. Maybe these things are not a big deal for people, but I like to look back and see what I’ve done, maybe on a list or report. Also, I think of deleting as for things I no longer want or need to do..Version: 1.4.1

Misleading IAPThis app popped up a prompt that said something like “upgrade to pro for free”, so I pressed it as ads are annoying. Lucky I read the next thing that popped up, which was the Apple Store IAP prompt, which was asking me to confirm a $4.49 purchase. Not cool..Version: 1.1

Conceptually good. Some very serious flawsReally good app on laptop and helps productivity. Good be so much better !! First issue: have to pay for the app separately on Mac and on iPhone if you want them to sync. Is this a joke? Second issue: was happy to pay for the app separately as I felt the sync on both was worth it. Oh no wait it doesn’t actually sync properly ? I don’t know if there is a way to set time of updates but as it stands it doesn’t update properly. When I make an edit on Mac it doesn’t change on phone. Then when I use the phone app it immediately changes everything on Mac to the old format on form. Very very horrific quality of sync considering you have to pay (not once but twice!!) will be contacting focus matrix for either a refund or for them to fix this issue.Version: 1.5

ConThe app for iOS is good but do not fall into the trap as I did in thinking a one off cost allows you to sync with your mac. I’m downloaded the Mac version today only to find they want another £8.99. Rip off.Version: 1.5

Notifications don’t workThis would be a great app but the notifications don’t work. Also, the text seems to small and it feels uncomfortable to use..Version: 1.3.3

Not bad, could be betterBasic app, which does what it say on the tin. A few wishes: - calendar view in app - tally/countdown of tasks in each column - ability to add documents to tasks - colour allocation for tags - matching colour allocation for task which are transferred to the native calendar app rather than all appearing the same colour Many thanks..Version: 1.3.4

Cross-platform is not good.I purchased this to help organise myself. The main attraction is the promised cross-platform functionality. It works well on my MacBook. On my iPad and iPhone? Not so great. Sometimes the tasks created on the Macbook appear; sometimes they don't. I can't mark tasks as complete on the iPad or iPhone. I won't be renewing once my term is up..Version: 1.6.1

Has potential but I got carried away by the pretty coloursI purchased this app in the hope that it was simple and effective. Unfortunately I cannot seem to master even the basics of the app. It is not intuitive and it is difficult to even enter tasks. I cannot seem to set dates and syncing the app across my system doesn't work. I paid for both a Mac and iPad copy and would advise against it until some of its bugs are ironed out..Version: 1.0.1

Not great UI but promising conceptI paid the $4-5 for this app but for the most part its ok. The UI/UX is poor IMHO I have tried several times to "join" the database so I can sync but that screen just hangs and hangs and never opens up. Each task needs a bullet point or check point instead of deleting the whole task in each setting.Version: 1.0.1

Hung once and now is workingThe pro app hung on me when I first tried to create an account and sync to my other devices. But now it seems to be working. I’ll use it for a while before updating this review..Version: 1.1

Prepare to be Nickel & Dimed for everything!I upgraded to the pro version of Focus Matrix as it stated it could integrate with Be Focused right from Focus Matrix. What they don’t tell you is that you need to upgrade to Be Focused Pro in order for this feature to work! I would have no concerns if this was stated in the pro version description, however, it’s not. Now I am left wondering what was the purpose of upgrading to the pro version if the free version also didn’t integrate to Be Focused? This was a learning experience & I will not be purchasing any pro version with this app developer again until they include everything in the description..Version: 1.3.4

Disappointed, Not IntuituveI wanted to like this app. First, I was not thrilled when I realized that I would have to purchase this app separately on each device in order use the multiple device functionality. One should purchase the app once and be able to access it on all devices. I felt scammed. Next, once a task is completed, it stays in the category box albeit greyed out. Soon, my box was cluttered with completed tasks. The only way to remove the completed tasks were to delete them. And once deleted, they no longer showed in the report. What’s the point of a task manager/organizer with a cluttered in box. What’s the point of a report feature if you can’t see a report of your accomplishments? If this is not the way this app should function, then it is not intuitive. I spent time trying to solve these issues and could find no answers. And figuring out how this app works definitely falls into the “not important, not urgent” time wasting category. I wanted to like this app. I look forward to a serious revamp..Version: 1.3.3

Need to pay for each download across plateform, difficult to syncYou need to pay on computer AND phone to get them to sync. They claim iPad and iPhone will sync but it will not for me. Their tech support is not too helpful in helping to fix problems. I got a short answer making it obvious that they are not reading my question carefully. I like the app but not the support and someone else should execute it better. I wouldn’t buy again..Version: 1.3.3

Good yes but...Great app except somehow it bypasses the settings switch on my phone always bugging me to rate it. Having rated it once and still being bugged is really annoying especially bypassing setting to stop this happening. Having been asked to rate yet again the app got what it asked for. Because of the aggravation created by this ‘feature’ I have had to reduce my rating from 4 or 5 stars to 2..Version: 1.3.3

1 Flaw ruins appI loved this app but it’s very buggy making it unreliable. I’m very frustrated that after the 4th time ordering tasks by completion date, all dates were once again removed a HUGE flaw ruining this otherwise good app. I expected better from this developer but am left disappointed..Version: 1.5

Great, but TOTALLY UNRELIABLELike BeFocused Pro (former Pomodoro Pro), this is a great, but totally unreliable app, as its server doesn't work properly. If you updated your data today on your iPad with Wi-Fi off, for example, and then you open turn it on and open your iPhone app, it will "update" all your data on the iPad with all the old stuff from the iPhone. The same DAMN PROBLEM on BeFocused. I'm disappointed that such great apps are so unreliable! I've never seen any cloud that does that! This is bad programming skills. Please fix it, and I'll give it more stars..Version: 1.0
