Short on content. It’s good. I was practicing more with this app than with any other method ... because I was enjoying it. The ramp up in difficulty is steep (as mentioned by others) but I found by playing through a few times I learned the song the. Could concentrate on the thing being taught for that lesson. The absolutely must be a way of easily pausing, rewinding and adjusting the speed, though. If I’m trying to learn the piece, I need to be able to look through it at my own pace. Dragging left right would be ideal I think? I did the trial with every intention of signing up, but unless I’m missing something, I’ve pretty much finished the content! Sure I could do with going back and practicing stuff I didn’t Do too well at, but there really doesn’t seem to be that much content, and so I haven’t signed up for the 12 months. So I really really hope there is more content coming, or more content that I missed, as I’d sign up in a jiffy if there was. For context I be been playing guitar for years, but just strumming really ... I knew the 5th position pentatonic but didn’t know that that was what it was called until about a year ago. So I guess beginners would have 12 months worth. I just wish I had..Version: 2.92

Hard to see notesPlayers accuracy could be much higher if the notes were easier to see and identify. Lots of unused black space in the background. Numbers are in a very small font and no way to increase size. Numbers are only outlined with color. Usability could be improved significantly. Not that easy to tell if not was played correctly - flashes on the far left and quickly disappears. Could be a really good app if Gibson developers watched a few beginners actually play the app to see where they struggle.Version: 2.92

Updated, now won’t work at allAfter installing the required update, the app no longer works. Rebooted device, nothing. Update: got a response from “Daniel”. His support solution is that I buy a newer device so I can use an app that was running perfectly just days ago!! Btw I have an iPad Air 2, so although it’s not a spring chicken, it’s hardly a dinosaur. Have had zero issues on it with any other app. DO NOT use download this app until they have some real solutions to the problem..Version: 2.75

TunerMy tuner stopped working. No longer picks up sound..Version: 2.92

Other reviews totally wrong?Look, this app claims to teach you guitar. Sure, you’re going to learn the bare minimum of each topic. You’re going to learn about 5 of the 12 chords you should know in order to play basic music. They only teach you five. Every other app will teach you all of them because it is the most basic guitar skill, but not this one. Then, they’re going to throw you into more advanced topics and teach you part of that skill, just like how they only taught us part of the basic chords. Then even more advanced concepts without giving us a full grasp on any of the basic skills you need to play guitar. Extremely disappointing AND EXPENSIVE!!!.Version: 3.02

Great potential but too many bugsReally love this app, which is why I am so frustrated that it doesn’t work very well. Some great potential but hasn’t improved over the best part of a year that I have been using it. I even bought a new iPad Pro just to check that wasn’t the problem. Frequently doesn’t detect the note particularly on the high e. Sound quite often goes glitchy and requires an app restart. Progress chart doesn’t let you click where you need to sometimes. But a great learning tool if you persevere through all the bugs. Don’t think I will be renewing next year though..Version: 3.15

Was good to begin with . . . Now crashes since last updateWas working through the app and enjoying it. But since yesterday’s update, the app now crashes just after the initial loading screen. Please fix!.Version: 2.75

Help??Every time I open the app it closes immediately.Version: 3.07

Needs to improveThese are the things that will change my love for this app. 1. It takes forever to load a song, why not keep the song in memory? Most of us will be playing the same song again and again until we master it. 2. Say I am stuck in a part of a song, would be nice to easily identify that part and loop that part only without reloading the song again and again. My time is better spent learning guitar not waiting for this app. Yousician solves these two nicely..Version: 2.994

Too much to quickAfter a few lessons in the basics There a point where it’s too hard and confusing to much at once you need it spaced out.Version: 2.1

Can’t get past introThe intro plays through. I play along. The mic is working. But the app won’t let me go to the first lesson. It just keep routing back to the intro. Very un-Gibson..Version: 2.90

Don’t pick monthly for a free trial, you’ll be chargedFeel this app is being shady already only 2 minutes in, difference between yearly and monthly is staggering, a free 7 day trial should be exactly that, whatever plan, it’s misleading, most people are gonna pick monthly to be cautious but then it bills you without warning you, if you want the free trial pick yearly and cancel straight away, you should still get the 7 days, I don’t know because I WAS CHARGED!!!! I haven’t tried the app properly yet but already p*ssed off, it’s expensive, has issues just like Gibson guitars, when’s the Epiphone app coming out?...Version: 4.0.2

I love the app, but the lag keeps throwing me offIPhone 13 Pro with iOS 16.1.2 The app is great, but the lag that happens every time I earn a star (and sometimes other seemingly random times) really throws me off. I’m only on the “Two Frets” section and loving the app, but the lag happens every time on every song I play. I’m going to keep using the app, but unsure if I will continue after my trial ends. Right now the lag isn’t a big deal as I’m just starting, but I know once more advanced techniques are introduced the lag will really throw me off. Please work on a fix for this as I love the layout and the way the app works and would like to stick with this app rather than another similar app..Version: 3.15

Your chord and string bend recognition needs more workI been using your app for awhile, at first I used the chord recognition issues as an opportunity to refine my finger placement to get all strings to ring out perfect. I’m beating my head against the wall as it can’t be done...acoustic or electric thru a clean amp makes zero difference, I tune using the built in tuner...it’s frustrating at the very least. So, cut my losses on your open chord progression process and started the lead guitarist1 and soloing, you have no direction on what to bend string to...semitone or whole? Tried various bends to try and dial in the correct bend, no luck, either says “bend not heard” or something like that or wrong note. I don’t know where your issues lie, at least Yousician has a way to try and calibrate the microphone. I won’t be renewing my subscription if it doesn’t improve, for the beginning student, the frustration is high enough without these glitches already.Version: 2.752

New update crashesUpdate crashes on iPad Air. Not good..Version: 2.75

No landscape mode in menus. This is an app that would be very useful on tablets. No landscape mode so useless on a tablet. Updated: Dev mentioned content is in landscape mode, which I’m giving a temporary 3 star rating as navigating on a tablet with keys is very cumbersome. Main menus should also support landscape mode. Too many devs don’t build apps that properly support landscape mode, but this app is particularly more useful on tablets than phones. Will adjust rating as I spend more time with app, however I feel I cannot rate any app 4 or 5 start if it is a tablet suitable app and does not include all elements available in landscape mode. Most major apps work fine in landscape mode. Also, I think Gibson is making a mistake for not making all content free. The more training material made available to players, the more they will be promoting guitar playing, in many ways has been declining, especially electric. Just look at a lot of modern music. How much features guitar? Giving more free content will help market and sell guitars, which all manufacturers can benefit from..Version: 2.90

Please respondThe app is stuck on the loading screen.Version: 3.11

Need to try more songs but so far it’s a mixed bagThe app is pretty and has a nice interface. I have played Rocksmith since 2014 and have been begging for a iPad app that could compete. Yousician didn’t, fender play didn’t, and from what I can tell Gibson isn’t looking so good either. The issue with not paying the license for the songs is the unlistenable covers they use for backtracks. And the bad thing here is that the app doesn’t require a chord, but does require headphones and since it doesn’t emulate your guitar you cannot hear what your playing.. the notes have a horrible tone guitar emulation playing but it’s not an emulation of your own playing, but what should be played. I tried 30 seconds to Mars and the Chorus killed me. The singer on the backtrack could not hit the notes in the chorus and I had to stop it was so distracting..Version: 2.993

Has PotentialOverall I find the song selection better than Yousician, but their note recognition isn’t to par yet. I can play Yousician for hours with only a few moments where it misses a note I’ve played, but Amped is lucky to get 4 out of 5 at times. I’m still using it because regardless of what Amped thinks I’m playing, I know I’m playing correctly and the practice is fun. Improve your recognition, add more songs to library, and this is a great app..Version: 2.710

No that greatI understand that people give this good reviews because a lot of people want to like but the app is not that great. 1st off you can get a perfect score with out playing any frets the app does not mark it as missed. Secondly I have to pick the guitar really hard for the app to pick up the sound and the app sometimes marks an incorrect fret as correct so you’ll probably pick up bad habits. Need more work and polishing then it’ll be good..Version: 2.993

Headphones !!!Sure this is a great app but I have an iPhone 8 that has no headphone socket and you cannot use Bluetooth headphones so can’t even get past the plug in headphones part so is useless to me. Such a shame it looks so good.Version: 2.722

So/soThis app is ok. The basics are good, however when you start to progress in the courses, the songs get way too fast, especially for a beginner.( for example in “licks”) Seriously, I’m not Slash dudes!.Version: 3.11

Another expensive subscription appLike a plague the App Store is full of apps turning into subscription only rather than a decent price, it’s a packaged app of old content turned into a half decent learning interface but it’s so expensive it’s simply not worth it. #greedydevelopers...Version: 2.992

Great for a beginner. But not many songs to choose to learn after learning basicsI am very new to the guitar and after purchasing the membership I went to look for some songs that I’d wanted to learn to play and, to my dismay, there was not a single song that I’d wanted to learn. There were a songs that I knew of course but It was saddening to see the lack of songs in the app after spending my money on a membership.Version: 3.0

Crashes & Charged me after I cancelledI was enjoying this app somewhat but it kept crashing on me so I cancelled my subscription two days into my “free trial”. A week later it charged my credit card anyways. Don’t even load it unless you want the hassle of trying to get charges reversed on your credit card..Version: 3.07

CrashesThe new update still crashes.Version: 2.751

“Yousician” repackagedWell, I was very excited that Gibson came up with an app that would help me take my playing to the next level. Imagine my surprise when I started using it, and realized it was just “Yousician” minus the bouncing ball. All the same lessons, the same attempts to upsell you, and the same time limits as the old “Yousician” app. And for those of you who say I’m a hater, I LOVE Gibson guitars, and own a few. I even opened the Yousician app and played them side by side. The narrator even sounds like the same guy. Not worth it, and very disappointing given all the hype..Version: 2.992

Much better options out thereHaving used this app for 6 months or so, I gave up about 3 months ago once I reached the licks and chord changes section. Nothing I could do would make the note detection work effectively, and having tried three different guitars, all tuned via the app, an iPhone, iPad and different headphones, still gave the same issues of either wrong notes or “Can’t Hear You!” Contacted the developers and was told that this would be corrected in the new version, which took another 10 weeks to appear. However - it’s even worse. Now won’t load on the iPad, and note detection, even for open strings, is just awful. Should have signed up to Yousician instead. Would have given a 1-star rating if it wasn’t for some of the use I had out of it. Now stuck with another 6 months of a subscription that isn’t going to get used..Version: 2.82

Pretty significant technical problemsI really like your song selection and the interface is simple but elegant! That said, there’s pretty terrible lag whenever I slow down a song. Practicing even at 50% is almost impracticable. Practice at the slowest speed is basically impossible. The app also crashes not infrequently. Finally, for some reason, notes are not being picked up by my mic. I do have new headphones and they’re not terrible. I hope you address these issues soon. At the very least, I hope you make this app accessible on my Mac. If you fix these issues, you might even be a better app than Yousician. Good luck!.Version: 2.710

2.5/5 its ok but room for improvementI received a 1 year subscription in august for my birthday and have been using the app since then to learn how to play guitar as a first time newbie. I am left handed, my guitar is an acoustic. And here are a few thoughts about this app, its lesson structure and quality, learning tools, audio pick-up for acoustics, and song selection for beginners. The lesson structure and quality is good, and the gamification of learning helps to make it fun. Including some left handed content would be nice. Also giving some exercises to help with stretching your fingers, locating the correct strumming cord, practicing scales would be a nice add on. The learning tools are just ok. I would like to be able to access the metronome within the actual lessons, practice sessions, and songs, and not just from the Home Screen. Also, there is still a significant amount of leg when you slow the songs down. Additionally the looping feature can be a bit finally at times. I use the app on my iPad Pro and with either my bose headphones with a mic or a speaker with a mic located close to and in front of my guitar. The app doesn’t always do a great job picking up the audio from my acoustic parlor guitar. Although my guitar is a smaller size it does give out a large sound. The audio pick-up does work better on my headphone than the dedicated speaker mic. However, I can’t help but wish there would be better audio pickup using a speaker with mic so that I can hear my guitar more. If there are solutions for this I would be interested to hear them. The Song Selection is ok…. A first glance there looks to be a good selection, but when you break it down to skill level you choices get smaller. I’m still working with beginner level songs and learning cords. So I can’t really speak beyond that. But at the beginner level it feels limited. I have submitted lots of recommendations but haven’t seen one come through yet and it doesn’t seem like new songs are added on a regular schedule or timeframe, but rather occasionally. Actually, I noticed today two new songs added, just not in the beginner level. Many of the songs at the beginner level are not songs that I either know or ones that peak my interest. And this is a big motivational factor for me. I’m finding myself looking outside the app for lessons on beginner songs that peak my interest. But then I’m not making my way through the lessons to advance to the next level and getting the value out of the paid subscriptions. That all said, the structure and quality of the lessons are good and I would give a 2.5 if could. I think they deserve a 50% for having a good foundation that they can easily improve on. But I think the other half is missing, especially the metronome and song selection. If I see improvements before my subscription comes due I will update my review and rating..Version: 2.998

Completely uselessUnless you pay for it..Version: 2.993

DisappointingFirst disappointment is that the app forces you to use headphones. Whether you want it or not you have to connect headphones, otherwise the app won’t allow you to progress at all. Second disappointment, once you connect them you will realise you don’t actually hear your own guitar in the headphones but some other one generated by the app! Really? I have bought a guitar and an amp and I want to learn hearing them not some artificial sound. Also I want to hear how am I producing sound, is it clean or is it not, but with the headphones on I can’t!!! Final disappointment, the app in general feels more like a musical game then an actual educational app, as you have to keep strumming according to the keep constantly moving animation. You can learn more from free YT videos (Justin for example) so I don’t see any reason why to pay for that app..Version: 2.92

Make it easier to tryYou download the app and it makes you purchase a years worth before it allows you to try the free 14 day trail. Basically you have to be sure to cancel or you get charged. How about after 14 days if I like the app I will then decide to continue. Better yet just do a monthly so I can try it out without spending so much like Fender does, which is where I’m going now. Guess I’ll be taking Fender lessons on my new Epiphone inspired by Gibson guitar. You need to make it easy to stay within the brand..Version: 3.07

Not enough free play timeIt’s a very good and useful app, but I’m not able to get over halfway through a daily session before it tells me that I have to pay $15 a month to play anymore. I’m worried that I won’t get the skills that I need if I can only do half of what is recommended. I’m not paying for unlimited and I don’t know if it’s worth it. If you’re willing to spend money, this is a great app. If not I’m with you and we need to find something else..Version: 2.9994

Not an iPad App!This App only runs in portrait mode, so it’s not a true iPad App, and just a blown up iPhone App. Since I always use my iPad in landscape mode (and that’s how my case supports it) I would never use this App on the iPad when playing guitar. This is unfortunate because the iPad presents a large screen to view the material, and the case allows a convenient, ‘no hands’ orientation to play and watch. Deleted, might review the iPhone version differently, but won’t be as convenient as a proper iPad version with landscape would be..Version: 2.89

Good but priceyYes won’t lie, I love the app but the cost is very expensive compared to the likes of Fender play (got for half price £30) and Justin guitar (free) with people on Furlough, pandemic etc it would be better to have a realistic price. Shame but will be going back to fender and Justin. Also one other thing is the use of headphones, I have them so not an issue, however you can’t hear you own guitar so defeats the oboist of learning..Version: 2.99

Great app but missing crucial featuresI really like this app and even more than Yousician. I feel like the microphone sync is way more accurate than Yousician’s but the huge downfall to this app it has no slow down feature to play songs at a slower pace like Yousician can and no ability to rewind in songs also in like Yousician can. If these two features were added I would give Amped 5 stars..Version: 2.5.1

Why the silent startup video?Good app. Occasional crash which would be ok if I didn’t have to watch a 10 second long video every time the app launches. Please can we skip the video🙏.Version: 3.03

Note detectionEnjoyed the app to start with, Now it struggles to hear me play and constantly says I’m not playing the right chord (I am) very frustrating as I can’t get the stars I should, due to bad note detection.Version: 2.76

Tuning Issues/Chord correctionI am extremely new to learning how to play a guitar, I have no prior experience nor knowledge. My main issue is learning how to tune my guitar. When I use the tuner assistance within the app, all of the chords are incorrectly displayed on the tuner page. When I strike e (the smallest string) the chord B shows up. I am unsure as to why this is happening, It’s not my sound quality because I’m in a relatively quiet area. (Sorry for any incorrect guitar grammar, like I said, I am very new.).Version: 3.17

Great idea. Lots of problems.I like the setup of the app much better than similar game style guitar learning apps and the song selection and leveling are both great. This app is fun and I usually end up getting really pulled in once a begin a session. There are a few technical issues that make the app really frustrating though, and I don’t see myself continuing past the free trial unless they are addressed. First off, there are major issues with note detection. I’ve used several different guitars and headsets and even played pretty loudly through an amp. I’m in a quiet room and it keeps missing notes. I’ve taken my headphones off and picked through individual strings. The other major issue is lag when slowing down songs. It’s not just the first time. It happens on a redo even if I just played the song. Finally, I’d like to see a bit more fine tuning with slowing down song sections and the ability to quickly choose certain sections without having to move the slider around and guess. There is a lot of potential here and I really hope to see what future updates bring..Version: 2.74

0-100 real quickUsed the free version for a few days and then decided to buy the premium. First few days were fun and challenging but the lesson jumped in difficulty really really fast. The lessons teach e and B in fret ranges of 1-12 but the next lesson after that literally jumped to using frets 15- 19 but going from fret 2 to 19 with almost no pause. Not sure why the app decided to jump in difficulty so fast. I would look at a different app that will increase the difficulty of lesson gradually instead of a giant leap..Version: 2.998

Only guitars! As I’m learning ukulele thought it might cover that too. But strictly for guitars. Looks very good though!.Version: 2.5.1

Not readySeems like it could be an interesting "Guitar Hero" approach. I tried the initial lessons without a subscription. Every time you hit a streak of notes, the graphics lag (but the audio is uninterrupted) while it processes the cool image it's trying to show. Since you're relying on the steady flow of the notes to gauge the rhythm, this makes it pretty much useless (at least on my iPhone 12 Pro). Thought I might have better luck on my M1 MacBook Pro... it won't even recognize that I have headphones connected. It's a no from me..Version: 3.13

High latency on ipad pro…Really disapointed.Version: 3.05

Not really a star since I really can’t use this app.I have MRI hearing aids which are connected to my iPhone XS Max. I would have to disconnect them in order to use headphones and reconnect them afterwards. Not hard to do, but an annoyance. Also, I would have to buy an adapter in order to use my headphones with my phone. We all know that Apple got rid of the headphone jack. Another extra expense in order to use the app. There are other good guitar apps out there to use. The developers need to look into these issues, especially if they want iOS users to use the app without extra cost..Version: 2.710

(Dis)ChordsI am withdrawing an earlier 1 star review because I evidently did not understand how to use the app! Having played on another app before I skipped to barre chords on Amped and did not take on board that you are expected to, for example, play normally unwanted and incorrect open strings eg EADGDbGb to play a partial Gb “chord” on the top 2 strings. The resulting sound is horrible if you have your (real) amp audible even though you are wearing headphones. Turn your amp down so that you cannot hear your amp direct but loud enough that Amped can. Amped removes the “bad” notes and replaces them with a much more pleasant sound. You are also expected to actually finger incorrect notes too, though eg EADGEbAb for Db. Sorry, but I don’t like this approach at all..Version: 2.725

Watch your wrist/hand position!I deleted this app after a week. My daughter and I both developed wrist pain and we feel it is due to using this app. At first it seemed helpful, but as the lessons wore on the video game aspect of it compelled us to stress out and try to get the note right at whatever cost to our technique. Three nights ago I thought I was having a good session but all of the sudden I had shooting pain in my fretting hand. I looked down and my wrist was in a terrible position that no instructor could endorse. Now I’m taking at least a week off to let it heal before I try to play again, very frustrating. Maybe some people don’t have this problem, especially those whose technique is already locked in and healthy. But from where I’m sitting I would recommend Fender Play or Guitar Tricks. This way you can go at a more controlled pace and not get sucked into “leveling up” in a video game when you should be keeping your hands in the correct positions. I expected more from Gibson. Maybe this is more cost effective for them than building out an entire curriculum with human instructors..Version: 2.92

Won’t loadSo far no good won’t load just says loading then kicks you out.Version: 2.5.1
