Focusrite Control for Negative User Reviews

Like the previous review…Not very Mac friendly and would not get past “Select Device” in the app setup. Now using Logic Remote as a substitute but would really prefer the Focusrite product..Version: 1.0.10

Just plain doesn't workPlease make an update? I've got it to work once, that's it. All of my software is up to date and on same WiFi network..Version: 1.0.10

Doesn’t work anymore. The app hasn’t worked in months. These updates and the advice from their technicians also didn’t work..Version: 1.0.5

UNRELIABLEThis app is very unreliable and support info does not address the issue. Sometimes my iPad finds the device, but MOST of the time it does not..Version: 1.0.9

Not Working with Scarlett 4i4 (Gen 3)Doesn’t seem to work with the new Gen 3 Scarlett 4i4 I just bought..Version: 1.0.5

No Support for iPad? Seriously???I have never written a review for any app, good or bad. But imagine my bitter surprise when I figured out that Focusrite Control on an iPad can’t control a Scarlett 8i6 plugged into that iPad!!! Seriously? To do a simple thing like turn off direct monitoring, I had to plug the Scarlett into the MacBook (which also makes me wonder what the Monitor volume knob on the Scarlett is for). Why on earth an existing iOS app CAN’T control a Scarlett plugged into the iPad, when the MacOS version of Control CAN control a Scarlett plugged into the MacBook is just sheer laziness on the part of Focusrite. I see it so often: Inde devs perform miraculous updates to their apps on a regular basis, while corporate devs release half-baked apps and never fix their most glaring obvious flaws. So disappointed..Version: 1.0.10

Why no work?It can't find my 18i6 even when it is directly connected to the iPad via USB Camera Kit!.Version: 1.0.3

Can’t connect to deviceDoesn’t work.Version: 1.0.10

Not proper iOS control..so am I right, your focusrite is connected to you desktop and then you just remotely control that. I want to be able to control my focusrite from my iPad. No I mean just on the iPad, no pc/Mac involved. Currently have to take focusrite to a workstation, set it up then I can use it with iPad? Surely we could have an app that properly controls the device without needing APC at all? Please? May have to buy an alternative device..Version: 1.0.10

Cant connectCant connect to my scarlett 18i8 first generation. Fix please.Version: 1.0.10

Completely UnreliableUnfortunately, the app will rarely connect with the Mac version to control the Scarlett 6i6 on the iPhone or iPad; and when it does, lists ghost versions of my Interface on the iPad, one showing up even when the device is powered down, but not actually showing any activity or having any control over it, this selection cannot be deleted, even if the app is deleted and re-installed; the other showing up when the device is powered up, working correctly, but with the exact same name as the non-functional selection. Grrrrrr. It has worked, a couple of times, showing its potential. Focusrite Control for Mac should be added to the App Store, as this software pairing is in obvious need for persistent, focused, and automatic updating..Version: 1.0.5

Oh my God! This is THE most pointless app ever! This does *not* give you the means to adjust your current generation Scarlett's Direct Monitoring, Air, Pad, INST, or input routing options without connecting it to a Desktop PC/Mac and running the Focusrite control panel. Believe it or not, it's just an iOS based remote control for the *desktop* control panel. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Want to use your Scarlett on the road, in your hotel, etc.? Better bring your entire desktop rig with you, if you plan on making changes to *any* of the aforementioned controls. This wouldn't be an issue, if Focusrite hadn't REMOVED ALL OF THE PHYSICAL CONTROLS on their newest generation of Scarlett interfaces. But, yeah. I mean, you can't make this stuff up. 👎🏻.Version: 1.0.10

Focusrite disconnectLatest Mac and focusrite versions and though the Mac sees the hardware the connection lasts no longer than a couple of seconds. Very disappointing!.Version: 1.0.1

Can’t even use it.I bought the Clarett 8pre X mainly for the use of this app. And I can’t even use it now. I open the app on iPad mini, iPad or iPhone 8 and the app just shuts down all with the latest OSX. It’s been over a year since the last update. Come on!!!.Version: 1.0.1

So far no good does not workSet this up w a clarrett 8pre I have a MacBook Pro with a dual OS Sierra and Mavericks. Latest version FC control setup 2.3 on each OS. Dedicated WiFi with security dissabled. Latest FC iOS on two devices tried. IPad w iOS 9 and IPhone 5 with latest iOS 11. Firewall setting disabled on MacBook. Everything links up and then FC control pops up on the iOS for 3 seconds and then vanished. I have tried just about everything. This is a deal breaker for me as I bought this unit to control mixes in 4x rooms in my studio. My router? Literally 2ft away attennas pointed at the Mac! I am almost just about over this BS I have been in Pro Audio 25x years and this is just glitchy and does not work. 6 hours of wasted time you would think I was wiring my entire studio. 👎🏻.Version: 1.0.1

Would be nice if we could choose the inputs we want to monitorNice app...but I am frustrated that if I want to select a specific input to monitor, I can’t do that in this app. I have to do that on the Mac app. If you could give us the ability to select inputs from within the iOS/iPadOS app...or even load snapshots or presets...this could be a 5 star app..Version: 1.0.10

Good…butThis is a great feature of the Focusrite - very helpful. But… the one thing I want to see the most - is the most limited. There are VU meters for Output and Monitor - but not for Input. I can’t call three coloured blocks clear Input monitoring. My suggestion, stack the input blocks to one side (of a landscape iPad screen), and put clear Input monitoring meters on the other side (so they are arranged side-by-side). Thanks for the app!.Version: 1.0.10

I’m torn. The app is amazing. The system is GREAT! But it only connects randomly. I talked to the costumer service and they are extremely kind... but the app needs an update. Whoever developed it for you guys needs to address connectivity. It is very frustrating because is an amazing idea/tool..Version: 1.0.5

UselessWhenever you actually want to use your phone to adjust anything this thing never works..Version: 1.0.10

Just doesn’t workWindows 10 and a Scarlett 18i20 2nd gen, nothing. Went through troubleshooting, everything set as it should be, no luck. You’d figure with all the new developments FR has had lately, they would have updated the app in the last year. Very disappointed..Version: 1.0.1

GarbageHorribly inadequate. This is what Focusrite offers as means for controlling their audio interfaces. No support for IOS IPad platform. Terrible support.Version: 1.0.9

Looks niceWould be nice if it actually worked on 18i20..Version: 1.0.10

Please update the app so it works on IOSHi. I have the Scarlet 4i4. Connected to an iPad Pro with GarageBand. The app wont recognise my device despite doing all the recommended trouble shooting. Please fix this guys as I cant be the only one with this problem..Version: 1.0.10

CrashesI can’t get into the app nor can I connect the scarlett solo to my iPad without it crashing I’m on an IPad 11 pro with a usb c to usb c cable. Could I have a bit of help please and thank you!.Version: 1.0.10

Always crashingCrash 10 seconds after start..Version: 1.0.1

Won’t connectDoesn’t matter which WiFi I use. It won’t connect. Useless..Version: 1.0.10

Doesn’t connect iPhone XWhat’s the point of this app when you can’t connect? iPhone X, MacBook Pro on 10.12.5, Focusrite Control 2.1.8.Version: 1.0.1

Doesn’t work at all.Running latest iOS on iPhone 8 and latest macOS and latest Control version with a brand new 18i20 2nd gen. Once selecting the device on the app, it says Waiting for Approval for about two seconds then crashes..Version: 1.0.1

IPad app not compatible with iPadUnbelievable fail. Cannot even find Focusrite that is plugged into it. Deleting..Version: 1.0.10

Oooooo, digital!Oooooooo, digital control when you want analog. The face of my Focusrite has a dedicated, labeled ,physical control on the face of it. Why? Have a digital version ? You can’t use the software without purchasing the physical controls of the interface. But here, they’ve made the controls digital. That’s right ! It’s true there’s no further set of controls in the app over the physical controls but they could have. They might? , Someday? Never. This app is the perfect place to put plugins for reverb at the very least. This would have allowed Jamkazamers , Podcasters, would be YouTube video makers or live streamers to have a tiny bit of reverb easy and on the go without diving into any DAW crappola. Focusrite has a free plugin package able to be accessed through your DAW /recording software only and it’s easily accessed in 32 EASY steps. It involves licensing , isn’t that great ? So seamless , so musical , so inspiring. That’s why no one ever has problems using digital recording equipment..Version: 1.0.5

Bugs…The thing is not working properly. It won’t keep any right pan setting on the custom mix page, as soon as you exit the page and come back, all right pan are back to center. The main software (on the mac) will stop seeing the interface if the computer goes to sleep, you need to restart the whole thing if you want to control the interface again… very annoying.Version: 1.0.10

Ruined by lack of features and near constant crashingUnfortunately the app is currently incredibly unstable when using on a 2021 iPad Pro with my Clarett 8Pre Thunderbolt connected to a 2018 MacBook Pro. Everything is running on the latest firmware versions available, which for that unit is Focusrite Control 3.6.0.1822. When it doesn’t crash, a lot of the functionality of the desktop app isn’t available anyway. Custom output names for instance don’t show up, and there’s no option to rename them within the app itself. In theory a great app, in reality completely unusable at this point in time..Version: 1.0.10

Needs attentionUsed to work flawlessly on my iPad and iPhone. Now doesn’t connect to interface at all. Tried focusrite support about 12 months ago and was just sent around in circles..Version: 1.0.10

Laptop needed! Can I control directly from iPad otherwise what’s the point can just use laptop but would rather not thank you!.Version: 1.0.10

Disappointingly fragile and slowThe 8pre is a great piece of kit but this app is unusable in live environment when switching needs to be reliable and instant..Version: 1.0.10

Don’t expect this to work anymoreOn iOS 14 it doesn’t work at all, instantly crashes when you try to open it. Don’t bother downloading it..Version: 1.0.10

Doesn’t actually control InterfaceThe app only acts as a remote for the control app running on your computer. I assumed this app would let me use my iOS device to turn on direct monitoring as my computer wasn’t connected at the moment. Apparently not, though. As such I’m not really sure what the point of this app is unless you have a absolutely huge studio that walking across it would really be worse than this app. Update: the app is actually less useful than I thought when I wrote the above a few months ago. Even if a computer is on and connected and Focusrite control is open, all the app can do is change output levels. It can’t even change between custom mix presets, which is about the only thing I ever want to do with the Focusrite software.Version: 1.0.10

Shame it needs a computerPlease could you add support for configuring a Scarlett connected to the iPad? An increasing number of us are using iPads with software like AUM, Cubasis, or BeatMaker3 as our entire audio production studio. We shouldn’t need a laptop just to reconfigure our audio interface..Version: 1.0.5

Token AppThis is a joke. I can’t recall snapshots. Can’t control the op level of linked channels. Can’t adjust the input gains. Can’t really do balls. The only thing I might use is the talkback button to get control down by my hands. Otherwise does no good at all..Version: 1.0.10

Won’t even openKeeps crashing. How is this useful?.Version: 1.0.10

UnbelievableThat such a great product line can have such horrible iOS apps and NO SUPPORT for the Scarlett line for iPads???? Fix this or sell you company to someone that actually supports music makers!!.Version: 1.0.10

Newest update crashes appThey added monitor controls for the 18i20 and they used to work fine. Even before that it worked as expected but the newest update now crashes app when selecting the monitor control portion of the app. Too bad almost made me want to keep this interface. Looks like I’ll dust off the old motu avb interfaces and get them racked again. This thing is trash anyway. Was just convenient to have in my upstairs server rack. Thumbs down. Oh and I’ve used this 18i20 for the past 2 years without issues..Version: 1.0.9

Need helpI loaded the app on my iPhone. App can’t find iPhone 5s. Go to internet Help download software but I had to save in files. Now how can I download file to app..Version: 1.0.3

Do not downloadMeters sometimes have a mind of their own, for me they shoot to max volume randomly and unexpectedly. it happened while i was in the other room and blew one of my monitors. i have a brand new phone with no other issues. i highly advise against using this app.Version: 1.0.10

Nice but loses connection when iPhone goes to sleepIf there is a workaround to keep it connected when your iPhone goes to sleep it would be perfect. I see that the developer responses say to go to the website and contact support. I did that about three weeks ago with no reply, so I’m hoping this review will catch somebody’s attention. I noticed another review made the same comment here..Version: 1.0.5

Good app, add USB supportIPad pros now have USB ports and you can use your Focusrite interface with them. All I use for recording is my iPad so I would like to control my Focusrite interface directly with my iPad. Can you add support to detect and communicate with interfaces over USB?.Version: 1.0.5

WIFI onlyThought this could work over USB but it seems like it’s Wifi only. Would have been really handy to load it from my iPad that I always have connected to my 18i8..Version: 1.0.10

No Gain AdjustmentI’m new to the Focusrite interface world but my buddy had a Scarlett, so I thought I’d upgrade and try a Clarett. Downloaded the app... Problems. Constantly reconnecting. Not sure why...just won’t stay logged onto my device. Also...no gain adjustment feature. The while point of having it is to be away from the my interface...so having gain adjustment linked to the app would be perfect. Similar to Apogees. All in all not my fave..Version: 1.0.10

Disappointing lack of support for Scarlett 4i4I recently bought a Scarlett 4i4 3rd gen to run as a midi & audio interface with Cubasis 3 and a few physical synths & samplers. Unfortunately it’s locked in a mode where midi isn’t transmitted and this app doesn’t function correctly on a gen 7 iPad using IOS 13.7 and the Apple camera connector. If this app worked & allowed me to enable midi in & out I would consider rating it 5 stars..Version: 1.0.10

Scarlett 4i4Seriously the manual on how to connect and use this app with desktop/Mac varies from version of app/program and which device you have, plus what iOS device you have... have spent an hour trying to set it up following instructions on the focusrite website, and have been unable to link up with iPad Pro from desktop. Using iOS GarageBand... 10 min to set up... no hassle at all....Version: 1.0.9

Absolutely unusable, constantly loses connectionI am stunned at just how unstable this app is. It takes roughly a full minute to make a connection to the Focusrite Control application running on your computer. Once it finally connects, it maintains a connection for anywhere from 15 seconds to two minutes, and then loses connection again. I’ve done all the troubleshooting steps, opening ports on my firewall, restarted routers & reconnected… nothing helps. It’s really a shame because remote control of external mixes was one of the selling points for the Focusrite hardware I just got. I don’t have any such problems with Avid’s Pro Tools control app, which maintains a rock solid connection at all times. So I know it’s possible….Version: 1.0.10

Does nothing for meI don’t have a mac, only an iPad Air 2. I installed this iOS app and it will not find or pair with my Scarlett ii2 3rd gen and I can’t get any sound out of it! The Scarlett sees both the mic and instrument inputs as does hardware input and output on AUM. I’ve been fighting this for many hours and I’m totally frustrated! I’ve searched the focusrite website and find NO solutions. Feeling like it was a mistake to buy the Scarlett to begin with. Maybe Behringer has a unit that will work?.Version: 1.0.9
