✓ Great AppThis app is great for making black and white pictures pop. A lot of apps only focus on color and high definition filters but forget about the black and white filters. This is the only app that has only focused on the black and white photos. This app can make a photo more stunning without any color than most apps can with a full range of colors. ✓ In-app purchaseI recently downloaded this app and then purchased the full suite of filters and textures which the app said were half price at that time. But I was charged the full price. ✓ Just what I was looking for.For a while now I have been trying different editing apps and what I bought was doing me just fine until one day I came across carbon...I instantly fell in love. I love black and white photos and this is just what I needed for what I do. In addition they just came with the desk top version. I wish I didn’t have to pay for mobile and desk top but that’s neither here nor there I have them both now and I have no complaints. ✓ Great appWas very apprehensive about downloading this app. Downloaded and didn’t use for weeks because I didn’t want to pay for it. Ended up shelling out the money, and it was well worth it. ✓ Love it but....I love this app, my favorite type of photography is B&W. This really increases workflow. I have a problem though after I add texture and click next, it rotates my photo from portrait to landscape. I cannot figure out how to keep this from happening. It squished the photo as it does this. As a professional photographer I will probably never use more than 3-4 filters, in fact, I’m using only two. I need a workflow and there’s none in the Carbon app. I should be able to save preferences and save time instead of browsing through a hundred filters (at least they do have memorable names and they’re good). ✓ Greatly improved appI had taken a look at this app a year or so ago and was disappointed with the filters and the price I paid for the full pack. I must now reverse that opinion and review. The developer has done an AMAZING job of revamping all the filters to a very high quality. As it is now Autumn in my area I resort to primarily B&W photography so re-downloaded Carbon. I’ve made some beautiful edits with it. One of the filters rendered a picture of some leaves in my area with terrific creamy tones. I got many likes on EyeEm for it. It is definitely an app you want in your editing arsenal. Keep up the great effort to keep this app top-notch!.Version: 9.4

There are many presets and although I usually stick with a couple of my favourites there is something for everyone. It would be great to be able to sort my favourites to a certain location as they all seem to be at the far end of the scale. ✓ Wonderful appThe B&W filters are great but I obtained this app to add a border and 3D canvas to my photo after seeing someone else’s images on FB. With a border and canvas, my photograph looks like a work of art! The other feature I really like is the ready lists of hashtags to copy into my Instagram post. The message on the hashtag page says that all I need to do is shake my iPhone to communicate a new hashtag category. This does not work with my iPhone 7 Plus. ✓ Great app & great customer/app supportOne night while using the app I accidentally downloaded/purchased all the filters & textures because of the in-app purchase feature & finger print scanner on iphones (which has since been turned off to avoid that from happening again). I landed in a bit of a panic because I figured if I messaged Livintis they'd probably respond that there was nothing they could do because I'm an idiot. BOY. WAS. I. WRONG. I got an immediate response from the creator of the app apologizing for the mixup & asking me to send him proof of purchase & my paypal info so he can send a refund. While I hadn't actually been charged yet it took a few days for me to send that info to him. Once I sent it my refund was immediate! I couldn't believe how understanding he was of the situation when he could've responded "sorry you're an idiot I can't help you" & leave it at that but he totally understood & helped me out. While I don't have all the fancy filters, using the filters the free pack offers I'll still continue to use the app because I like what it has to offer & because of how Livintis handled everything. Sometimes the filters bring out shades that I didn't think were possible without color. Yes, some of the other apps have some more nuanced controls, but the one click b&w filters in this one offer such a variety that it makes creating a black and white photograph super easy. One thing I wish we could do is save favorite filters and also be able to go back directly to the camera roll if we chose the wrong image instead of going to the start. I must say that it does its job: provide you with black-and-white filters. However, you only have access to the first four filters before you have to pay. If you pay, you get the rest of the filters, textures, and whatnot. The free filters aren’t that much different from the filters in your default photos app. So if you only want to stick with the free filters, you’re better off with your regular photos app. But if you’re willing to pay, the filters look amazing, and it’s promising. Update: been using this app for a while and I'd say it's become a standard part of my workflow. It's missing some stuff but overall I'm happy with it. No other apps have the diversity of black and white filters that carbon has and this is the key reason I keep coming back. Suggestions for the developers is to add in percentages for the sliders, increase output resolution options, allow us to save editing sequences and also to bulk edit photos. Good stuff so far. Looking forward to the updates! Update 2: I have another suggestion for you guys. One thing that I noticed was that sometimes, the hashtag feature won't let me post all the tags, the post will just be cancelled, and so I have to manually delete a couple before it will work. ✓ Love the way you can achieve a multidimensional true B/WI’ve used many black and white effects and it was obvious to me that the red, blue and green in using a basic black and white could highlight or lowlight. I know what makes a good black and white I.e. contrast, shadows etc. What I learned on CARBON was depth. What I mean by this is you have a landscape image that has water trees sky etc. in dimensions and defining the different layers from the back to the front or vice versa in the original image. CARBON creates an image that is so multidimensional with my preselected undertones on the APP making this image for me a true black and white and every shade of gray in between and not by turning off RGB and going to grayscale on other editing pages. I want a real absence of color in my WHITE looking through the leaves, a branch, the reflection, light, contrast, and shadows that if a tiny bird was on a branch in the distance you can see it in various grays and then the final mixture of all colors that make BLACK. I use this to convey a nostalgic feeling to some and others make them into jaw-dropping clarity in b&w. If you already have the app from before the subscription method started, or recovered it from your old phone pre change, you need to delete it first and “Get” the app from AppStore again to successfully restore you purchases. If you attempt to restore purchase on the old app (which is somehow a different app) you won’t get it because it’s restored on the new app, and keeps telling you “something went wrong”. Customer service beats all hands down. I had a question and it answered quickly and completely. Then I needed some more advice and each time I had a reply in a matter of hours. The developers get 5 stars just for that. They truly want to make sure the customer is happy. The in app purchase is a one time fee. Not some crazy subscription like most apps. ✓ Good Filters But Too Many PromptsYou would expect these days that apps just conform to some sort of basic intuitive workflow but this one seems to have more instances where you get annoyed by pop-ups or have to click on extra menus or go through extra screens to achieve what you want even if it’s just a simply turn a Photo into black-and-white and save it to your camera roll… too many prompts and questions. filters look really cool but I wish the export was in higher quality..Version: 13.6
✓ Photos By Phelps!!I enjoy using this program sometimes after I’ve edited the images and I’ve emailed it off to The model. I’ll decide maybe I should do something else with the image to help it stand out above the rest and I’ll use this app to be able to create some very sharp, professional, looking black-and-white images. This program comes with many different black-and-white stylings to choose and figure out, which one really helps your image to look professionally converted into a black-and-white image instead of it just being a straight neutral transfer you can think about if you want the red or the blues or the yellow to be your base tone and then what other things should shift around it. ✓ Love this app!I have used this app for a long time and loved all it has to offer, it’s so much more than just the black and white!! The amount of filters and the fact you can adjust their opacity is terrific. With textures and overlays it’s well worth buying all the options. I love the borders feature and how easily you can customise a border. Woke up to an update yesterday with the bonus of a new Canvas feature, which I believe is in testing mode at the moment - the great news is it works and is terrific! I post photos to Instagram and if it is not a square shot I like to put it on a background canvas and this new update allows you to create that in a huge array of colours and with the option to give a 3D effect. ✓ Carbon is my favorite B&W filter appI use 20+ photo editing apps. Carbon is my go to app if I want b&w filters. The filters are easy to use. The output looks very professional. Lot of my photo subjects are from India with varying skin tones and varying color clothes. Carbon provides fantastic output. People love my bw carbon converted image over the color images I get from them. Good job keep developing more great features — One thing I want to see. When i am editing pictures, I like the way it looks with shadow and framing. I would love to be able to safe a high resolution picture with shadows etc At present i snap the image of the screen and use the photo. The resolution is lost.
