Con to get your emailApp doesn't actually do anything.Version: 6.7

Boring!Nothing new to see here that other cheaper or free apos provide ...... YAWN!.Version: 10.91

I need my money backThere is not even a single useful filter on this app which I can’t find on the free apps on the store. I tried to cancel the subscription during free trial but there was no option to do that in the app once you allow it to go ahead with trial period. Kindly refund me my 20 pounds..Version: 12.0

They just want your moneyThe free filters are rubbish, nothing you can't do without Snapseed or the native iOS editing tools. Don't bother..Version: 5.6

Bad app - negative feedbackAll the negative reviews worry me but I still tried it to judge it for myself, app is terrible and just leading in every way to buy the app spam. I recognise the lay out also for other apps that got seriously bad ratings and were limited on features. I’ll carry on using snapseed it’s non exploitive and free..Version: 9.6

CarbonI bought this entire app and on my phone it still tells me to buy b&W and photo light room and other thing. I deleted and reinstalled it but it just came saying I did not this!!!!.Version: 11.11

Locked out of purchasesI bought into a series of paid filters for this app (black & white and duotone) a few years back and was enjoying them for photo projects. But when I went to use them today I was prompted to join a 20 dollar a year membership to access the filters i had long ago paid for. I never received an email about the change so I won’t be using it anymore (was a nice ap while it worked… sorry to see it and my initial payment go).Version: 12.0

TrashPure shi.t $5.99 for this and $5.99 for that and they give you filters that you can get with a camera roll.Version: 8.91

Can’t do anythingIf you want anything even remotely different from the built in iOS photo filters, there are massive unavoidable paywalls. Ironically, if they’d given me a price up front, I would have paid..Version: 9.92

Very annoyingIn my opinion this is a click bait app. Essentially ‘locks up’ with need to buy to go anywhere, one accepts the purpose is to make money but I prefer it to be by encouragement from seeing possibilities and wanting to go further not by being frustrated with a frozen screen and needing to quit altogether..Version: 11.09

Well made app... but utterly expensive. The B & W filters are excellent and offer a professional result. Other filters are mostly gadgets... which make the app overpriced..Version: 6.7

Terribly overpriced - better apps out thereYou’re hostler better off with a number of more sophisticated apps, most of them free. The in app purchase for the £20 premium filters is a joke. Most of the garish colour filters are unusable curve adjustments or slightly tweaked variations on B/W filters as infinity’s. Quantity over quality is the story here. I feel completely duped into buying something that I might use once. But probably not. Also, can’t get a refund. Awful. Edit - as soon as I published this review I got an email from Ritvik - the app author, with a “How to make great photos” survey, promising a free hidden bonus if I just answer his questions. The questions are all leading questions that point towards him being able to tell me that it’s not his app - it’s my photography skills! Great way to get my hackles up. Not only is this app and developer a total rip off, now I have to deal with spam too. Apple - how do I complain about this and get a refund? We’re talking nearly £24 here....Version: 6.7

Buggy!Cancel and next but have ellipsis: they read ca...el. And n...t..Version: 5.3

Simplistic and pushy marketingI’m a retired professional with decades of experience. Carbon has a glorious UI. Very seductive. I’ve grown lazy and the idea of using presets as a jumping of point on IOS is attractive. Rather like Nik Collection Silver Efex Pro……an idea and then change it and turn it into your own creation. Hard to know with Carbon…..looks like yet another press the button and apply someone else’s work to yours. Hard to tell with Carbon with it’s intrusive aggressive marketing. Doesn't seem to be any serious editing capability. Too hard to work past all the self congratulatory promos. I’d pay serious money for a decent app , but I can get far better results from Snapseed, Lightroom and a few other IOS apps. Five stars for slick high pressure marketing. Two stars because I’m in a good mood. Marketed differently, and with editing capability, this may be really good. As it is:”all that glitters us not gold”. Now, where is that delete app button..Version: 12.0

Very aggressive sellingAdvertised as free, this app only allows one or two free filters (pretty average quality) until it bombards you with requests to buy the full +$5 version. You literally cannot click on anything without being redirected to another page, and there is no option to refuse the upgrade, which is supposed to be a clever marketing scheme but really, is ridiculously noticeable and I would never give my money to someone who wants to “trick” it from me rather than show me their app is high quality. What a bunch of losers. Don’t get this app..Version: 10.7

Pointless, ExpensiveThis had the promise to be a really useful app, however the features are highly limited even on the paid for bundles. For example the ‘vignetting’ tool does not allow the use to chose the placing or shape of the centre, the ‘border’ tool eats into your image rather than build around it. The app offers a limited range of ‘cut and paste’ hashtags - perhaps useful for a beginner but anyone serious about using # to promote their work through Instagram would have this anyway. This seems to have been put together by a marketing team with little knowledge of modern editing app capability or a photographers requirements. Save you money. Use one if the free photo editors that are richer in functionality..Version: 8.7

Be real. $3.99 to add color? You got greedy. Instead of focusing on volume with low profit per download you went high out the gate. I paid the $3.99 because I gave you the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe Just maybe there would be something else. I downloaded on my iPad and now my phone. The worst part is the download on my phone is not recognizing my email as an existing user. 👎🏼 I have one suggestion. Would b great if you offered an erase option at least. This way I can erase the color off the photo on areas I feel will pop through the color more. Just a thought.Version: 5.6

Best B&W app? Hmm...Ok, I’m a keen photographer and always try various apps and software to edit photos. B&W being one of my favourite styles. Have to admit the bating to download the app is well thought out ‘Get all this for free’. Download the app only to find out that I have to buy extra features. And at £30+? No thanks! I’ve had a look at the feature you can purchase and there are many but you can get the same or better for free or at a fraction of the price! Eg: Snapseed! Far superior, flexible with editing and free! Well it was when I downloaded it. And since then I’ve had all updated and additional features added for free. I know this is a living for a lot of app developers, but don’t con people into spending money claiming to be the best app when it barely scratches the surface of what other apps can do for a lot less of a cost!!!.Version: 7.0

Don’t bother downloading or buys filtersWaste of money. Waste of space. The filters and overlays are pointless and very generic, barely customisable. The app is poorly designed. Additionally features are 100% not worth purchasing even for $1 let alone $60. Has to be one of the dumbest purchases I’ve ever made. I’ve seen basic editing apps perform better with more versatility then this rubbish “editing” app. Black and white filters are no where near what they appear to be. Do. Not. Be. Fooled..Version: 6.7

Yeah... nahThe advert looked great but the results are nothing that you can’t get using free apps and messing with the standard light filters in iOS. I’m sure the fully unlocked version will save some time but this is far from original. The biggest frustration is only giving free access to 4 B&W filters to sample, why not put a time limit on access or stick a big ugly watermark on free pics..Version: 11.09

An infuriating amount of pay wallsJust installed this app and attempted to trial it but I was met with an infuriating amount of paywalls and pop ups insisting that I buy packs and filters. Just attempting to edit a single photo I had to close 3 pop up windows and another one for every time I clicked a filter that was apparently a premium one. (Which you can’t tell until you click it) A classic example of a beautifully designed app completely ruined by the greed of trying to push up sells. In the end, I didn’t end up editing anything and uninstalled it. All that time and effort building this app and you totally lost me before I even used it. I’m not going to buy your $15 filter pack when you spam me with “buy this” pop ups. Sorry..Version: 8.7

HorribleYou won't be able to do anything except be prompted to pay over and over. It's a waste of space.Version: 7.0

Didn’t workDownloaded it, worked for a week or so, updated it, nothing worked. Loaded the home screen, but not a single button worked, couldn’t do anything but stare at the home screen. Tried restarting, updating, etc, etc. Deleted it..Version: 11.03

Great Concept but Poor DeliveryThere's a lot going for this app. It comes with four filters, eight textures and a border create tool to try gor free. Additionally, this app includes basic tools for adjusting sharpness, brightness, contrast etc. Easy enough interface. BUT * Lacks the ability to fine tune the filter e.g. Adjust the opacity of the filter * Photos on ones device can only be selected from the camera roll i.e. No favourite or album selection * The app is too pushy with presenting their premium filter packages for sale. E.g. If one happens to click on one of their premium filters (which are NOT clearly marked) one is forced to view three additional screens before one can return to editing * Did I mention the software is buggy? Within 10 minutes of use the program froze and had to be restarted..Version: 9.6

DeletedThis app just nags the crap out of you til you hit okay to buy the filters..Version: 9.6

Designed to make you buy extrasBase App has nothing really useful about it. Once you are lured to download it, there’s constant offers to buy this and that...wish Apple to ban these kind of Apps..Version: 9.92

MmmmyesSurprised/disappointed that there aren't many free features, but it's still a unique and necessary app :).Version: 4.2

QuoteYour Anon quote is by Canadian photojournalist Ted Grant.Version: 5.3

The filters are good but there are 3 main problemsI went for it and bought the full upgrade but they really missed a few important items that would make the whole app more user friendly. 1) you can’t select the folder in your albums you want to search the the photo in. This means if you are looking for an old folder you have to scroll forever and most likely the app will crash before you can find said older photo. 2) when you test out a filter you can’t zoom in. Only being able to see a small version of a photo without being able to zoom in on individuals faces is a pretty big issue to me. 3) it’s very hard to compare filters. With there being so many, it would be better if you could select 3-5 possibilities for each photo so you can more easily narrow things down. There are probably much better black and white photo filters than this and Sadly I didn’t realize the app’s limitations till after I had paid for it..Version: 10.7

Already Bought??Having purchased the full app previously why am I now unable to access what I’ve already paid for? Poor show..Version: 12.0

Mediocre and ObnoxiousDownloaded this and then deleted it within about 5 minutes. The available free filters are perfectly standard B/W filters, nothing much different from what you’ll find in your phone or VSCO. You will be bombarded with requests to send you push notifications (no, believe it or not, no one needs a photo editing app sending them push notifications). You’ll also run into paid options really quickly and they don’t just tell you that you can’t use them, they pretty much forve you into a Buy Premium screen thats super slow to load. Just get VSCO..Version: 10.1

Buy this, buy that. No thank youCan't do anything on this app without them asking you to pay or sign up for one thing or another. Such a shame because the app looks ok but including 4 filters and asking you to pay for anything else is a joke. Either get people to pay upfront or make a majority of the app free. Deceiving ads that make you think there are a tonne of features when that's not the truth (unless you cough up the money)..Version: 5.3

Terrible!Literally none of the free features work..Version: 7.1

Junk appJust 3 free filters and they are less than ordinary... and now they got my email because I choose to sign up for a "free editing tutorial"... what a waste of time.Version: 5.3

I don’t like the updateI love this app and have created very many great looking black and white images using it. I would say control options is what sets this apart from the other apps in its class. However this last big update some of the best things about this app have changed. The warm control now actually changes the color of the image from a cool berg blue color to a warm sepia color. Before the image would stay black and white but the tone would change without the actual color changing which allowed me to get some very interesting tones out of the image. The hue control used to be the same way now it changes the actual hue of the photo which won’t make any difference unless you make it warmer or cooler. Those were the 2 main features that set this app apart from the others for me and now it’s just not as useful or as fun for me to use. I wish developers would change this back or give the user the option to do so. Other than this I would have rated it 5 stars.Version: 9.96

DisappointingGot suckered by the slick presentation. Filters are not great with very little to no ability to adjust. I want a refund..Version: 7.1

Expensive, and full of shady up-sellingSorry, but the constant interruptive and urgent Up-selling is not just annoying, it borders on "dark design". Considering the price of outstanding apps like Darkroom, this is not well priced. The app might look slick, but the filters are nothing you can't find in apps that cost a fraction of the price. Unless the half priced discount for full access is dodgy psychological marketing, then you can buy the professional class Affinity apps for less than "full access". A shame really, the app looked promising..Version: 9.7

Can’t even use properly! All I can access is about 10 different black and white filters and you have to pay for everything else! Very disappointing.Version: 12.2

Unethical business, paid for filters taken awayI’ve been using this app for around 2 years with their black and white collection. I paid for this collection of filters and was happy. Today, I went to use them and it asked me to pay for a subscription to use what I’ve already paid for. I tried to report the problem in the app and nothing would go through. I’m upset, I’m being gouged, and what I paid for isn’t working, and I can’t reach any customer service. Not only should this app refund me, this could be a legal matter. Especially if it effects others who are in this scenario..Version: 12.0

Unhappy customerPurchased the carbon full access, false advertising, unhappy with the package and would like to get a refund. Application keeps coming up with errors, says not all features are paid for, would like to know how to get refund as very unhappy with the application..Version: 9.5

A love and hateSo I must begin by admiring the filters. I am a professional photographer and rarely do images hit my phone without being rendered complete. But with this app I found myself exploring new options for my finished images as black and white photos. And I was impressed. And I’m glad to spend the money to purchase all the add-ons... but like all apps, when I test, I test for many things... including compression. This was most frustrating. I found that if I take a 14mb image, this app would compress it down to 450kb when saved. If I chose to save through direct airdrop, the image. Would still compress but would net out at 850kb. Either way, I would much rather be in control of the compression output, over the app dictating this. For how much I loved the filters, I would consider this app a total waste of time and money unless your goal is to share pixelated images to the world. So, I have a hard time giving a better rating until the compression issue is fixed. But I love the simplicity and filters of the app otherwise. I look forward to changing my review, this is can be a good app, but currently it is not even a consumer-friendly app in a modern high def world..Version: 8.91

ObnoxiousLooks like a cool app but was so turned off by the hyper aggressive selling I uninstalled immediately..Version: 10.1

Not free! Don't download unless you want to payI downloaded this yesterday, it was advertised as free. I haven't even opened the app yet and today I have been charged 3.99. I don't like this one bit. How can I get a refund for something I haven't even asked for.... Apple this is bad..Version: 8.2

WeirdColor filters aren’t really usable. B&w filters are pretty good but for me the dealbreaker is that the types of grain all add a hue to the photos. Pictures ends up purple or green..Version: 12.2

Why is this 'free'?You get basic photo editing plus 5 filters and some overlays when this app advertises how amazing the cinematic features and filters look and for an app marketed as premium black and white photo editing, you'd think they'd atleast give the black and white filters for free and charge for colours. Why not just charge an upfront fee or provide more base features? Can't even open the app without being bugged to buy a 60$ bundle. Either make the app paid or put more effort into actually making it a free app. It's a cheap attempt to go against VSCO and other apps instead of being honest.Version: 5.3

Don’t waste your moneyFilters are mediocre, the developers are pushing you to buy the full pack and save 50%, constantly. Very poor user experience and slightly different contrast patterns that if you are smart enough, you can adjust yourself in any photo editor. I want my money back..Version: 7.2

Clearly not free XDOnce you use this stupid app it asks you to sign up or have no access to any features and if you refuse to do so the app is USELESS. How ever if you sign up it asks you to pay! Now that's not very nice 😜.Version: 5.3

UselessYou can only use three presets in free version, you can’t even preview the paid ones. App crashed immediately when I tried to use the editing tools. Deleted..Version: 9.92

CrapGlitchy, the interface is not nice, its not clear + they could add a little more in the free version. I dont like the fact that i signed up for something (its the first thing that pops up when u open the app), and then i couldnt even test it out really, cause everything u tap is not available in the free version, so u cant get the hang of the app.Version: 5.3

Save your moneyNot worth it at all, horrible filters.Version: 5.6

Support non-existentI downloaded the app and bought the full product within the 30 minutes they offered the discount. When I opened the app the only the basics where there. I tried numerous times to restore my purchases and even though it said it was successful they were not there. I reported the problem twice and have received no response. I will ask apple to refund my purchase..Version: 5.3

Snapseed does far more for lessSave yourself some money with snapseed instead, it's free and you'll save yourself the hassle of being constantly harassed to pay for features..Version: 9.92

ReviewCool app. Too expensive...Version: 9.92

Too much spam and click baitEvery time I click anything I just got some crap pop up in my face. The app wants permission for this Ana that or wants money for this or that which I can do free in lots of other apps. Simply put it’s not worth it. Lots of other full fledge editors more worthy Of your monies.Version: 11.11

Kidding me?It looks promising but it's quickly clear very little is free - so why does AppStore say it's free? You're into invitations to buy more filters with shameless speed. The makers must hope we're stupid. Lots of better apps are free and my opinion of instagram is now low since instagram led me to it..Version: 5.6

Good App, Poor Customer ServiceWhilst Carbon excels in providing black and white tones, it’s customer service is rubbish and leaves you seeing red. 3 times I have reported that the family share element is not working, primarily brought this app for my daughter and she still can’t use it. For each time they have failed to resopond to help me rectify this I’ll repeat the message... poor customer service, poor customer service & poor customer service..Version: 11.09

Yo babes! Let me use it firstDear Carbon, please let me use your app before you ask me to read it in the App Store. All I did was download it, open it, and prepare to explore it. But first thing, I am greeted with a screen asking me if I love the app! And asking me to review it! It would be really smart of you to wait to do this until people have actually had a chance to look at the app and see whether or not they like it, if it works, if it’s something that expands their creativity, or inspires them. I have the intention of looking at this app and possibly playing with it even though on the same screen I had a screaming add to buy more things without even knowing what I was looking at. I still haven’t looked at the app because it just seems so ridiculous to ask me for a review before I even got past the very first screen which didn’t show me anything except ask me for review and try to sell me stuff that I thought it would be smart to just let everyone know that this is what they should expect. So there is the review you asked for. Sheesh..Version: 10.1

Get me excited, please.I think the term ‘pay-wall’ is misused a lot. Many apps offer you a great service and then offer an enhancement on that same service, at a price. I’m cool with that as I understand money needs to flow to create an experience we’ve learned to love. This is NOT the above, this is a true pay-wall... Every second click in this app costs me money and the endless baiting game of ‘click, disappointment, back. Click, disappointment, back...’ is infuriating as I’m trying to enjoy a serving that at least starts me on a journey of creativity. I’m no stranger to enhancing my own experience in-game or post-shoot, but this is one crazy pay-wall I’m just not prepared to invest in before enjoying even a basic experience. Two stars from me, even if the second star is only me hanging onto the hope hidden inside false promise from the developers..Version: 11.09

Nothing my iPhone doesn't already do.I was excited about this app for B&W photography...until I downloaded and tried it. There is nothing this app can produce that I haven't already done using the regular "edit" features on my iPhone. The ads are gorgeous, what I really downloaded was a beautiful and intrusive commercial instead of a photo editor. Why must there be two pages of the same ads to swipe away, instead of a preview before I buy? Those extras are corny anyway, and can be easily created on any other pic editor for free. Don't waste time, money, or space on your device bothering with this...portfolio..Version: 8.5

Nope.Needs a serious rethink. Great concept. But make it paid from the start. Don’t blackmail people for their email. instantly put me at odds, and didn’t feel at home after this. overpriced filters, that if we’re honest can be found on other apps. I am more than willing to pay for stylish, useful post processing apps, but this needs a complete relaunch. what a shame..Version: 6.7

Pay to Play AppVery buggy (it crashed during the first two images that I tried to edit and it's very slow) and there are only 3 free filters. It's well branded but there are far better and more robust editing and filter apps..Version: 5.6

Mostly Good’ish, Lacks Luster. Most of the B&W filters are a redundancy after the first 12. App does not allow you to zoom in on your photo. App does not support landscape users. Overall the app provides some nice editing features (bokeh, dust & grain, fog-which is way to heavy, two-color which is also really heavy & fake looking) & edited photos transfer well without compression. IMO it’s a $5 app. CLOUD DOWNLOADS OFTEN DO NOT POPULATE INTO THE APP! This often requires shutting the app out and trying again..Version: 12.0

Snapseed is betterSpent all of 5 minutes playing with the settings and free presets. It’s ok but that’s it! To unlock its full potential you have to dig deep! Snapseed is far more powerful and has everything this app offers but for free! I wouldn’t recommend Carbon as a black and white editor!.Version: 11.09

App sucksBest part of this app is the hashtags for instagram, the rest is junk. The filters don’t offer anything eye-popping. Don’t waste your $$..Version: 9.0

Absolutely useless.I don't even want to give it one star. 3 grayscale filters and that's your lot. Anything else you need to pay. "The best free" it said. Don't make me laugh. Also if you pay me, I will change it to 5 stars, because that's what I think happened with that one person who gave you 5.Version: 5.6

Waste of timeWell the 5 star ratings are clearly from the creators of this App. I downloaded the App, tried to upload a picture and the App crashed. Restarted tried using one of their portraits and it worked but you then have to pay £3.99 for each filter .... thanks for wasting 5 mins of my life..Version: 5.6

Sad to seeAnother app gone to subscription. Not much good to a pensioner on a limited budget deleted app..Version: 12.0

Lovely filters, buggy, limited to 2000px exportThe filters are indeed amazing. Lots of creative potential. Howeve, the app is buggy - it doesn’t preserve landscape or portrait alignments, and only saves/exports to 2000px. It also crashes from time to time. Since the iPhone is 4000px (3000x4000) and DSLR’s and mirrorless systems offer 6000px and much higher, I’d like to see native resolution preserved upon export..Version: 6.0

Useless as free, options over pricedI downloaded the free version to have a play and see what the app was like. After looking at a couple of presets I get told they’re not included in the free version. You get pushed a few screens forward to see over priced add-ons, so then have to press back 2 or 3 times before you can try another filter..Version: 8.7

Don’t botherThis app is a joke. Sure it looks sleek, but Snapseed is easier to use and has a better user interface. Its hard to use and is super clunky. Annoying pop ups demanding cash are the nail in its coffin..Version: 9.5

MystaaCare to tell me how I remove this garbage from my iPhone X.Version: 7.2

Bad AppCrashed when I first ran it. When I did get it to run, the B/W filters were bland boring. Basically just 3 filters each with slight exposure changes from the other 2. Immediately deleted the app..Version: 8.2

Okay, but overpricedCarbon has some nice options and it’s fun to play with, although I wish you could add favourites to the B&W filters as scrolling through so many and trying to make a comparison of a few is tedious (compared to Hipstamatic). However I won’t be renewing my subscription as, since this seems to be becoming the default purchasing model, I have to make choices and it is very expensive for what it offers. If you must subscribe, try for a month and then decide if it’s worth it. I went for a year as I love B&W photography and I regret it..Version: 11.11

Carbon became a crapIt used to be my favourite editing app. I PAID to unlock package like the 56 B&W filters. And now they change their business model to give access to that content through a subscription service. Meaning that I lost access to content I already PAID for. And what about complaining to the owners? IMPOSSIBLE. The form has a bug issue and you always get a message OOOPS SOMETHING WENT WRONG when you press the send button. Such a disappointment. Don't make the same mistake. Don't download that crap..Version: 12.0
