TEACHERS | TalkingPoints for Negative User Reviews

App is okay, do not like the word count limitAs a teacher, this app is pretty easy to use and a good way to keep in contact with parents. Although the one thing I do not like at all is the word count limit per message/announcement is only 600 words. I sometimes have to send multiple announcements to parents instead of just one, and if I schedule the announcements they sometimes will send to parents out of order. I try to keep messages and announcements short and simple, but sometimes there is a lot of information to send out, and my parents do not appreciate getting multiple messages. I’d love it if there was a bigger word count than just 600 words..Version: 8.102.8

More characters pleasePlease extend the character amount past 320. It is really hard to get a lot of information out to parents when I can’t type more than 320 characters. I love everything else about the app (I would like more languages though) but the character limit kills me every time.Version: 6.9.3

Communicate Instantly in Many Languages!I adore this app as a way to connect with my families. The community where I teach is almost entirely made up of new immigrants, so this is the best way to have timely communication with parents or guardians. Unfortunately it is not approved by my board due to the privacy policy at TalkingPoints. They store data and do not share with the user what they do with the data. I, sadly, will not be using it next year, but also understand my board’s position on using the app. I don’t want my families (or myself!) mines for data..Version: 6.9.3

Please update! Need this app for the school year!I’m a special Ed teacher and I work with highly vulnerable populations. I use this app on my phone to stay in touch with parents throughout the day. It’s been struggling to load properly for days and is in desperate need of an update! I can use the web version just fine so I know it’s the app in need of bug fixes. Please update ASAP!.Version: 8.102.8

Struggles to loadI love this app. However it can be very frustrating and slow. It takes a long time to load sometimes and after using it for only 3 weeks I’ve already had parents complain about not being able to send a message because the site/app won’t load. It’s really my only complaint, so maybe other things about it are great!.Version: 8.102.8

Great, but Needs Some TweaksI really love that this app can translate for parents. That’s so important. But I’m constantly having to rewrite my messages and posts in order to fit into the character max. It would be so nice to be able to control the length of my posts! I also would appreciate an “attach link” button so that I don’t have to use up valuable character space when sending links to parents. Just my two cents!.Version: 7.7.2

Worst communication appThe app fails to load in low service areas like a school with concrete block walls- the main location I need to communicate with parents. I wish it came to teachers as a text so that I could reply quickly, instead of going to the app that fails to load. Even opening the website on a computer fails to load. I do not recommend schools/teachers use this app. My phone is not on school wifi, the computer is on school wifi- neither work well!.Version: 8.96.103

Hard to get through with customer serviceI want to start off with how convenient this app has been! I love that parents can “text” me without giving my personal number out. Parents seem to love this option. But if there is ever an issue with your account, it’s impossible to get ahold of a customer service representative in a timely manner. It should not take a week or more to get a response or to recover a password/account. I wish they were more proactive with helping resolve account issues..Version: 8.1.6

It’s OkIt’s good for it’s intended use, but still lots of inconvenience. For one, teachers can’t change phone numbers within talking points if a parent changes their contact. Also, I’m constantly having to re-log in every time I try to enter the app which is a big inconvenience. I think if they could fix these issues, I would def rate it higher..Version: 7.2.35

ClunkyIf I get an alert that I have a message, it’s TEN taps and two fingerprints before I can see the message. These are not state secrets people they messages about third graders doing homework. Also, the language to send messages is confusing, for example I think “send all” means just all the contacts for that student..Version: 7.5.0

Great Service; App Needs TweakingThis app is great for communicating with parents across all languages. But, there are a few shortcomings with the user experience: (a) there is no way to mass delete messages (I.e. student enrollment notifications and parent messages) so it is hard to keep a clean inbox; (b) when using an Apple Keyboard, the app doesn’t support landscape mode; (c) intermittently the Student/Parent profile screen do not display; and (d) the compose message screen could be made more intuitive and easier to begin an individual message. Great service, but I think improvements are needed with the app functionality!.Version: 6.8.16

Notification chasingThe notification telling me I have an unread message is mysterious. For example, it’ll have a 3, but only one message will have a dot by it. I then have to start randomly clicking through messages that I have already read to sync it. I am constantly worried that I am missing a message somewhere. This isn’t a new issue, but last school year only one of my kiddos’ teachers were using it. This year, the whole district is using it making what was an inconvenience into something truly irritating..Version: 8.78.0

Frustrating and unreliableThis is my third year using the app as a teacher. While it has a great idea at its core and started as a decent service, the latest version is a disaster. This year it has virtually become unusable. It randomly logs you out without a possibility to log back in, asking for email verification, which never comes through! Customer service has to resolve it. However, if you are not in eastern time zone, they are unavailable most of your work time. Communication with families is crucial and time sensitive. Talking Points does not provide a satisfactory experience for teacher-family communication. Very regrettable!.Version: 8.103.2

Not sending picturesNo pictures are sending. Very frustrating. The message part is going through but not the pictures..Version: 8.58.2

Great for some things... horrible for others.Even after “bug fixes” I am still getting notifications of unread messages that do not exist. Also, I scheduled a message, noticed a typo, and there was no way to edit it without hitting cancel and retyping it as a new message. It wouldn’t even let me copy it. One last thing, they should let us know what phone number is used for us to send the SMS messages. If a parent wants to send us a message, but doesn’t have the app, it is impossible for us to give them directions to initiate contact with us. It seems a little off. It is great app for keeping contact relevant to your classes, but, honestly it lacks some basic functionality..Version: 7.9.0

Ok App - Improvements NeededThe app used to be ok but glitchy. To be fair, the website is pretty slow too. The concept is amazing but 1. often times messages come to me from parents out of order 2. I’m the building ESL teacher and we have over 200 families so it’s frustrating that I can’t send the information to everyone I need to. 3. I used to be able to bypass this by having two accounts (teacher email and personal) but now I need to verify it and cannot. It feels like the 200 limit is on the low slide because there have been years I have had 180 students. Some of our elective teachers have far more. My district would never shell out money for the paid version making this app more hassle than it’s worth now..Version: 8.103.2
