✓ ZERO starsThis is by far the worst app I have ever used. I bought a VTech KidiZoom for my daughter. I liked the idea of her being able to text my husband and I from a kid friendly phone. Since VTech is such a large company, I anticipated a decent messaging app. I could not have been more wrong. When the app actually works it’s perfect for younger kids. But it RARELY works. There’s always error messages... it just says loading for an eternity and nothing happens. You’ll die of old age before this piece of garbage loads. Whoever designed this app needs to be beat with a stick and then fired... not even close VTech....Version: 1.16.3207
✓ This app is a failureUsually only sends and receives messages when my child and I both have the app opened on our phones, which is a problem because when are we really going to have both our apps opened at the same time when we’re not together. Real disappointed that this app failure is making me regret my $99 purchase. It needs to be resolved ASAP because this feature was sold to us parents and VTECh really just stole our money by not giving us a working app..Version: 1.12
✓ Oof.The app really misses the mark. First of all, it hasn’t even been optimized to the X, and we’re over a year here. The biggest issue is that my messages from my child won’t come through. The whole reason we bought this for our daughter, is because we both work off schedules and it has the tendency to be hard on her. So she loves to send us little messages when we’re at work at and get responses from us. But for the last 4 days now, none of the messages have been loading for myself, my wife, or my child’s grandfather. The whole reason we purchased this, and it doesn’t work. It’s lazy programming, and reflective of vtech’s values and the lack of pride they put into their products. They just wanted my money, and they got it..Version: 1.16.1107
✓ Doesn’t workI wasn’t even going to write a review, because it is just the same as everyone else’s issue. But maybe if enough people give this app a bad rating they will actually fix it?... am I placing too much faith in humanity? Not sure. I guess they got our money, so now they don’t really care. ✓ FIX THIS CRAPWe just spent $80 on your device and our primary reason was so our little one can communicate with us when one of us is out, and we can include her in family messages. The device works great but FIX THIS STUPID APP! It’s the primary reason we purchased your device and we can’t receive her messages even though we get a notification that she sent something! I’m reading the other reviews seeing basically everyone has had this problem. ✓ Not worth money if bugs not fixedSet this up and was okay still was figuring out how to work it then the next day try to open the app to add family and I can’t get in. Iv deleted the app and reloaded the app 3 times and still nothing. I’m not expecting it to be perfect but I’m expecting it to work for the price we pay. $100 for the phone, .50€ to prove I’m 18. ✓ Horrible UI & Service, Can’t Even Log InGot a new device for my son for Christmas. Opened it up and it required an update straight off. The update wouldn’t install so went back and forth with vtech support for several weeks until they sent me a thumb drive with the update on it. Once that installed, was able to get on device but the UI is horrible and had to call in for support again just to figure out how to add contacts. Now, me nor any other family member can log in to the app via our mobile devices - it just keeps spinning and spinning and won’t allow anyone to log in. Vtech support says they can’t help. Do not buy! Very disappointed, not to mention how much time and money wasted on this..Version: 1.07
✓ Severely DISAPPOINTED Customer!!!!!!DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!! This app is HORRIBLE!!! I will receive the push notifications when my child sends me a message but the app CRASHES EVERY TIME I try to open it. It’s very irritating and frustrating but I would be severely P!$$€D if this would be the only option for my child to contact me incase of an emergency. ✓ Not wowedThis has happened on so many occasions that I’ve lost count. I got the kiddibuzz for my son with high hopes that it could provide an educational tool along with a safe social connection to his family throughout the country in an effort to bridge the gap between now and when he is old enough for a cell phone. I am so very disappointed with the connection issues. We have a dependable WiFi and no consistency with his device. In addition this app is quite sparse with its reception and adequate connection to the device. I’ve been booted from my sign in yet again and am unable to sign back in OR reset a password. ✓ Don’t waste your moneyMy daughter got this thing for her son... I downloaded this app to my phone and I can’t even get passed the registration because it says my password does not match.. I have tried many many various combinations, numbers, letters and symbols, had someone stand over my shoulder to make sure that there were no mistakes and still says no match so still can’t get passed registration. ✓ Connectivity & Application IssuesI have registered and paid $0.50 for my child’s KidiConnect and have also downloaded the app for my iPhone 8+. As I attempted to also create a messaging User ID as a parent for the same account as my child, an error occurred. The idea that a my child is able to text me or contact me with an app of this sort without have the financial burden of a brand new regular cell phone & plan is commendable, however, If you are going to offer this product, then you should at least have support for it. ✓ CHRISTMAS RUINED FOR MY DAUGHTERBought this item because my we wanted to give our daughter the closest thing to a phone. This was supposedly a safe “phone” came to find out it is because it cant even be used. Had to reset password after password only to have phone say that the password is invalid. Cant add any members even though it says added. Their texts do not arrive to my childs phone. Not to mention you can only add people via email and not by phone number. PARENTS SAVE YOU THE TROUBLE OF DISAPPOINTMENT AND BUY YOUR CHILD A NEW PHONE AND SET UP PARENTAL CONTROLS ON THEM. THIS PRODUCTS ARE A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME. ✓ Horrible!!!!!I totally thought I had a great idea to avoid getting my 9 and 7 year olds a real phone- it was great for the one month the app worked and they were able to text us. Both my husband and I can no longer access the app because an error message keeps popping up. A huge waste of $160 for the two devices. Huge disappointment VTech! I expected better, Shame on me. ✓ V tech BuzzGot one for my grand daughter for Christmas, very disappointed. The equipment seemed to work fine, we used for a week and this hasn’t had any connection since due to maintenance. My granddaughter thinks we turned her “phone” off as she can’t message us anymore. Sad that your last update had disabled her ability to communicate with us. ✓ Makes me sadI was finally able to connect with my nieces using this, and now for the past few weeks, maybe even a month now, it just keeps crashing. It won’t open and won’t work at all and I can’t message with my nieces. This makes me sad, because I was really looking forward to having a way to communicate with them directly and this does not work on my phone as well as on their devices. To the people who created this, PLEASE fix these issues. I check everyday to see if the app will open and it just keeps crashing. ✓ Never consistent!My daughter uses this to communicate with her father who’s in the military and it is her only way of constant contact with him. The first day she got it, it worked like a charm and I’ve never seen her so happy to finally be able to send and receive messages and cute photos and voice messages with her father. That lasted about two days and now it will work maybe once in a blue moon. Some days she’ll be able to send stuff but not receive. Other days she won’t be able to do anything and we’ll have to delete it and reload it. I’ve never seen her so devastated thinking it’s because her daddy doesn’t love her anymore. ✓ Worst App EVERThis app does not work. It’s only function is to disappoint little kids. My daughter was so excited to be able to text us, but she can’t. Every time we try to sign in it says oops error. This company needs to recall its product or fix the app, otherwise I see a lawsuit in their future. ✓ App is unusable, returning Vtech Kidibuzz to storeIt’s literally impossible to sign up for an account for this app. Making the “messaging” feature of the Kidibuzz phone useless. After struggling forever to try and setup an account password (yes I met all their guidelines of lowercase, capital, and numbers. I finally got it to go through, just to tell me it could not let me log in and I’d have to reset my password. Tried using their “reset password” link and it never sent me an email to reset the password. It’s impossible for me to setup, and I was hoping I could get the grand parents on. If I can’t do it, they certainly won’t be able to. Luckily, I’m trying all this before actually giving the new unopened device to my daughter. So I’ll save her the heartache and return it to the store without her even seeing it. Save her the disappointment and me the headache. ✓ Dumb!Seriously if you are building an app for kids to be able to communicate with others, then make an app that is reliable! We got this for my daughter for Christmas it has been 24 hours and this app has crashed 13 times!!!! And half of the messages don’t send or receive. ✓ Not User FriendlyThis is one of the worst apps I’ve used recently, unfortunately. My daughter was super excited to set this up, but it is very unintuitive and not user friendly. We can’t even figure out hot to link her to my parent account, even after it charged me to prove my age. So at this point we’ve spent over an hour trying to figure this out with no progress. ✓ Can no longer use the app?I bought this for my daughter who badly wanted the idea of having her “own phone” it was complicated to set up. Having everyone who wanted to message her download an app (that no longer works and is “under maintenance” not even 24 hours later is a hassle. The “phone” itself is a pain to learn about I’m a wizard when it comes to technology but this is complicated and has way to many side apps just to get to one app. The idea of the games on the phone and leap frog is a great way of learning but if I wanted a tablet I could have simply bought one. ✓ Poor PerformanceMy daughter got a kidibuzz for Christmas thinking she was going to be able to text and communicate with mom and dad. To our disappointment this is only possible after adult registration of the device for $.50 (rude) and downloading the app, not to mention the requirement for multiple adults to download the app to at minimum send painted pictures back and forth. No but 1 week later the app totally crashed right before my husband left town, completely defeating the purpose of having a “cell phone” for a 6 yr old. ✓ Total crapThe problem is that the key thing the kids want to use is the KidiConnect application and it is total crap. Constantly asking for authorization and then won’t authorize. Give it some time and it starts working again for a while. We have two of them since I have twins and there has been probably 1 hour where both of these things have worked. ✓ Functional and Security Flaws - Beware of your child’s safetyThis app has both functional and security issues. In attempting to login to the app, the app status wheel just spins and then after several minutes fails. This happened on multiple iPhones of different generations. Strangely, even though the app failed to log me in, whenever my child sent a message from the vtech kids phone to ‘parent’ I received iOS notifications that a message from the named child had been received. Yet, when clicking on the banner notification it takes me to the login, which of course, continues to fail. We submitted a ticket to support, and their response was “we do not have troubleshooting for this type of issue at this time”. We purchased two of the vtech kids phones at ~$80 ea. and this is the support we received. I’m normally not the type to publicly express my opinion, but I want to make sure others don’t have to go through this frustration..Version: 1.06
✓ Maintenance for days is ridiculousWe got one of these for our daughter to show she can be responsible with a phone before we get her a real one. She was able to use it for 2 days and it has been in maintenance for three days now. It’s insane to have an app down for that long. ✓ Not awesomeYou’d think that a large, successful company, such as VTech, could afford to hire an app developer to create an app that wasn’t as awful as this one. Promoting the texting feature as a huge selling point for the kidibuzz, when the app used for this feature is so slow and full of bugs, is pretty disappointing. ✓ “Server down for maintenance”First it started on the kidibuzz saying “server down for maintenance” now it won’t work on anyone’s phone. It’s been down for 2 days! How long does maintenance take!?!? Honestly people listen to the reviews here don’t make my mistake in thinking they probably fixed all the issues by now because they didn’t and I don’t think they will. ✓ Works but it seems datedFirst and foremost you have to update the Kidizoom hardware itself or you’ll be extremely frustrated. It only updates when it’s fully charged so open it up and plug in right away and do the update when fully charged. Plan half a day for this process. I hope the developers keep updating because it seems limited and dated as far as functionality. I’d like to see more stickers and emojis in the future..Version: 1.07
✓ Terrible ApplicationI purchased three of the kiddibuzz devices @ $90 a clip. Too many functional issues with this application . The device is way too expensive for the application to fail. It’s hit or miss . It works sometimes but most often it does not work. It frustrates the child and older adults especially grandparents. The device itself is a great idea but when the application doesn’t work, that’s disgusting. When trying to use the kiddie connect app, 3 out of 4 Times it doesn’t work, either an error message appears or a message that your login failed. Shame on you VTech for charging a ginormous price that works with only one app that doesn’t work 75% of the time! I get notification my daughter sent me something and she be so excited but I click it and there is nothing there I have to play it off like thank u baby mommy loves it. ✓ VTech KidibuzzLet me just say that this is the biggest disappointment for not only me as a parent but for my six year old that thought she was getting a phone to be able to text me. I wouldn’t even give this app or this product one star but I had to choose an option. ✓ Barely FunctionalThis app... serves it’s purpose in letting me communicate with my kids, but it’s VERY buggy. Adding/Inviting other adults is very confusing and doesn’t make sense. I told the other adults which app to download and gave them my family email address so they could join “the family”. Then I had to invite them AGAIN through the app so they could send private messages to my kids. There also doesn’t seem to be any controls to REMOVE adults from “the family”... which is a huge safety risk. If someone in “the family” starts sending my kids bad messages, i’ll just have to take their KidiBuzz phones away, which isn’t fair to them! Most of the emojis don’t work. The picture quality is awful and they can’t be rotated. The voice messages are limited to just 10 seconds, which is really short. The response time for everything seems very slow. ✓ Servers go down for DAYSWe purchased the vtech kid phones just so my kids could message us. Here are the issues we have experienced in the past 10 days using this app with the vtech phones and our iPhones. 1. This app kept showing a loading spinning sign that took hours before we could sign up 2. I will send messages to my daughters phone and she doesn’t always get them. (Yes we are connected to WiFi so it isn’t user error) 3. The servers were down for 4 days- no communication from the app service- it would have been at least decent customer service if we would have received an email share they were going to be down or would be back up in x amount of days. After googling the issue it looks like they go down for weeks at a time. 4. Now my daughter can send messages but on the other end on our phone we just have the spinning thing and can not see her message..Version: 1.16.3207
✓ FrustratingLots of issues.. keeps loading for a long time then error messages pop up. Have a hard time trying to sign back in. Not been able to get others setup to use too so my little girl can send & receive messages. The link it sends them has lots of issues & errors too. So many things need to be fixed & updated. ✓ Shockingly awfulFor being a VTech app, this app is awful and I honestly expected better. I am constantly having the app shut down on me and don’t receive half of my daughters messages. I purchased this “phone” specifically for the text/voicemail function and it doesn’t work over 50% of the time. ✓ Terrible appSlow. Some random kid showed up in my list and I have no way to delete him. As we speak it’s inaccessible being “down for maintenance”. Even when it works they’ve disabled spell check so even sending a text is annoying. ✓ HorribleWorked perfectly for about a week. The only reason we purchase the kidibuzz 2 was for the messaging feature. What a joke. My 4 year old is highly disappointed and doesn’t understand why his device is telling him to get help from an adult when he clicks on his KidiConnect app. Every time the icon is clicked it says it’s under maintenance and to try back later. ✓ Waste of timeOver half of the messages my daughter sends to me or other family members are not received. We all get notifications that we have a message, open our app- then NOTHING. She’s frustrated, we are all frustrated. This is supposed to be family-friendly. It has been an absolute struggle. I wish it worked because the idea is so cute. The 1/5 times it works she loves it. ✓ App does not workMy daughter was thrilled to get this device for her birthday and have a way she can communicate with approved friends and family members. Worked great for the first two days. On the third day, the app started to crash for every one and now it says “error” with every attempt to log in. I’ve deleted and re-downloaded the app and I still get the error message.
