✓ Interrupting ads—Updated response to developer response— I completely understand the need for ads to generate revenue for your work. I’m ok with that. The issue is that there is a reasonable way to do ads and then there’s the way you guys do it. Your way becomes so intrusive to the whole experience of the game that it distracts from any real fun the users may have. You guys went over the top with the ads. I play several games with ads and they don’t impact my enjoyment of the game. Your way of doing the ads almost feels like you are punishing those who don’t pay to remove them rather than rewarding those who do. I spent more time watching ads than actually playing your game. It should never be that way. I’m not the only one who feels this way. There are several other reviewers who felt your ads were too much and ruined their experience. I’ve seen fewer ads on a news station in a swing state near the end of an election year than in your game. —Original Review— Was cool until the ads started popping up. Then I deleted it. ✓ Don’t waste $ to “Remove Ads”I played for a short time with no shuffle issues. I would find all of the words, watch the video ad and move on to the next puzzle. Because I really enjoy this game, but was really tired of watching videos.... I paid the $2.99 to remove ads. Then the game changed! And I’m certain it was developed this way! Before I went ad free, I never “had” to shuffle, unless I chose to. Now that I have removed the ads, I am forced to to shuffle on every other game in order to find the remaining words. I must watch a 30 second video, restart the game or pay the coins. I want to use my coins on hints... not shuffling. There was “never” a “need” to shuffle before I removed the ads. ✓ Does not always recognise wordsI enjoy playing this game however it happens too often that your word ( same position same direction) is not recognised forcing you to shuffle, lose points or look at a boring ad Also there are excessive ads which keeps popping up even if they’re not supposed to It’s getting really annoying and I’m not sure if I’ll keep in doing it. ✓ Sold Out to AdvertisersThe purpose of this app is to find words among the letters. You find words vertically or horizontally, but not diagonally. You watch sit through a game app advertisement video before every game. Note that very often the letters must be shuffled because the order they are in does not create any words. To reshuffle the letters, you must either use your coins or watch a video. The video at the beginning of each game is usually longer than the game. Being required to watch multiple videos to finish a game means you will spend more time watching ads then you will finding the words. There are only a handful of advertisers, so you end up watching the same advertisement constantly. The designers of this app may or may not have noticed how ridiculously long most of the ads are. Some ads don’t even allow you to opt out of them before you start your game. You can press the ‘x’ to opt out over and over, yet it will not function. That’s a sneaky & nasty little programming maneuver by the advertisers. I long for the days when I could pay for a game app but, alas, this app designer has sold out to the advertisers. ✓ Suspicious / Dangerous Advertising SitesI have been playing this game for years and love it. However, recently my Norton anti-virus software has been warning me of dangerous sites that appear via the advertising. Today I have received an advert that is 100% Chinese and Norton has gone into overdrive regarding “Dangerous Site” warnings. I’ve had to abort the Daily Puzzle and stop playing. I’ll try once more tomorrow but if I get one more warning from my anti-virus protection I’m deleting the app. Shame!.Version: 2.6.7
✓ “No more words”??I love the whole game, without the ads of course. I had to remove them because they were so annoying and in front. One ad was at the bottom of the page, flashing. I couldn’t stand it and that commercial showed up EVERYTIME I opened the app. But what gets me the most— the fact that a game runs out of words and you have to watch a video or spend coins to shuffle the tiles.. WHY?! It’s not MY fault that I’m not finding words in the order that the game wants me to. And that’s not even how a real crossword puzzle works. There is NO excuse for having to restart the level or forcing someone to either spend coins or watch an ad just to shuffle the tiles because they didn’t find words in the ‘correct’ order you wanted them to. The shuffle should be free, period. ESPECIALLY when there’s “no more words”. Other than that, I like the game. I just really hate the fact I have to watch a video to shuffle the tiles just because I found another word before the others. ✓ Fun but way too many AdsThis game is fun and challenging, which I like. But, has way too many Ads, which pisses me off. May or may not keep because I’m increasingly getting sick of the Ads! Read your reply which isn’t exactly accurate as you suggest that I pay for no ads subscription, which in another post you state that some free features still come with ads with a no ads subscription. Also, your game has excessive ads. I do not pay for games so I expect ads, your game is excessive and shows your greed. If you want to address so many complaints on the ads, get rid of 50% of them. Some of your responses to your customers are not even on point making me wonder if your read the concern or if you are just deflecting without any intention of making your customers happy. ✓ Too many 2 page adsI like the game but... Two things: 1. I don’t object to a few ads. You aren’t doing this for nothing. I don’t even object to two page ads if I’m not forced to stay on the second page. But the ads are irritatingly frequent, and even more irritating is I can’t just exit out of the second page. I play these games to relax, not to be irritated. 2. The hint and shuffle buttons are located exactly where my fingers either rest or drag on the buttons. I have no hints or shuffles left because of that - not because I can’t find words. Again, it’s irritating. ✓ Word TownJust started playing and enjoying it so far. A bit different from usual word games. Not sure about the coins as I don’t think I will be purchasing anything. Once it stops being free sorry but I am out. Been playing a bit longer now star rating has gone down from 4 to 2 because of the REALLY annoying adverts for other games between each level. Now I am out!! Shuffle needed much more often and if you choose ‘free’ you are told the game is not available so you have to pay. Sometimes have to do multiple shuffles in one game. ✓ More ads than playing timeI tried this game for a couple of days and found that I was immensely frustrated by the number of reasons the game found for me to have to watch an ad and by the unreasonable length of those ads as well as the mind-numbing lack of variety in said ads. I won the first dozen or so games in fairly rapid succession and was awarded some coins. Then the game suddenly began to require shuffles; I began to run out of words every game. I studied the playing board very carefully after this happened several times in a row, and I respectfully disagree with the developer’s contention that clearing words in the correct order will always allow you to solve the puzzle without a shuffle. Completely pointless since I can still see the words that need to be combined but the shuffle literally mixed the words up. ✓ Good game, way to many adsThe game is okay. Find words, like a word search, but without the words listed near the puzzle. Once you find them, it gives you category that they all fit in. It would be more interesting if they showed the words, and you had to guess what they had in common, the category. Why I gave the game 3 stars was the ads. Geez, you play for 10 seconds and then have an ad. That is too many. The creators would have more people staying on their app if they would allow for 5,7,8, or 10 levels pass before an add. Give the player some time to play the game. The ads are longer than the playtime. Apparently they can create games, but din’t know how to please their customers. ✓ Fun yet disappointing!Overall, a very entertaining game, but the high volume of ads surely takes away from the fun. The worst one is the “out of words” screen that pops up in every new puzzle that forces you to watch an ad or use 120 coins to reshuffle. 1st of all, I’m not out of words! Secondly, there is no “x” button to get rid of that screen?! There is always a reshuffle button at the bottom of the screen if you ever get stuck. So there is no need for “out of words” screen! ✓ No More Words..No More GameI like the game. Don’t like the ads. They are repetitive, too long and you really can’t “x” out of them because they just continue to play (tricky design maneuver, I’m sure). But I would tolerate them because I refuse to pay for no-ads. But I cannot tolerate having to pay, in one way or another, for a shuffle. I don’t want to watch another video or Pay coins. I found the words and shouldn’t be penalized that it wasn’t a specific order. When this happens more than once I close the game. Done. ✓ OMG Too Many AdsThere is an ad at the bottom of the screen 📺 & Ads after every level. If you answer the phone 📱, receive a text, check your signal, or internet connection another ad (not short ads but long ads close to a minute). If the app is idle for a couple of seconds another ad, not short ads but ads that last up to 60 seconds. Another problem is that you can’t ‘x’ out of the ad, the ad will go to either the App Store or to the website pertaining to the ad. Ads during game play also come up, an ad came up while selecting a word. Also the app becomes non responsive & have to close out of the app. No way to close out if the ad doesn’t play. The daily games are now broken down into five smaller games. With an ad before the game and after each level in the game, just another way to play more ads. Also if you mistakenly touch the ad at the bottom of the screen, the app will go to the page of the ad & when you press “done” another ad appears and you have to wait for the ad to finish before returning to the game. The view videos for points is placed too close to the ads located at the bottom of the screen & is just another way to force you to view more ads. Don’t like the new daily games, takes too long to complete the game. This app went from a good app to basically just a app full of ads, the ads are longer than the actual game..Version: 2.5.2
✓ Not sure how developers response, relates to my problemI found it highly annoying that I could not use the shuffle and clue features while fying in airplane mode. I thought I’d break up my 12 hr transatlantic flight by playing a few games, but nope! Requires an internet connection, to shuffle, or get hint, even when no moves are available. When I went back to check data usage of this app (when internet was available), I was appalled by the volume. Even though I’m a paid user, time for me to uninstall. ✓ Would give a 4 except for the ADS!I paid the $2.99 for the game to be “ad free”. While it’s true I no longer have an annoying wait for an ad to run between every game, I am still forced to watch ads or pay more money if I need to shuffle the letters. Annoying. But not half as annoying as the fact that there is absolutely NO WAY to turn the sound off of the annoying ads!! It’s infuriating. So forget trying to play the game in bed at night while another person tries to sleep next to you. There should be an option to turn ALL SOUND off the game so you can play silently. Most of the ads only have music so there is no needs for the sound to come on. Fair enough it’s a challenge and you can shuffle the words if you have coins or if you don’t..... you are FORCED!!! to watch ads which I think there are plenty in the game anyway (after every level) and please don’t insult my intelligence by saying you have to do them in the correct order that is complete BS! ✓ Gameplay does not match advert.......Why can gameplay not match the advert that originally temps you into downloading the game???? This game is a perfect example......advert showed a list of words scrolling down the screen and you had to find the words as they pass.....does the game play match this advert??? OF COURSE IT DOESN’T Why can’t a developer/seller be honest with their customers? Would it hurt to see the ACTUAL gameplay in the advert, once in a while. Of course it wouldn’t!! ✓ Would have been 4 except for:Screen freezes up when the “out of words” screen appears. The watch ad option twirls around and cannot be accessed. If I choose restart, the same thing happens when I again am out of words. Of course the pay to scramble option always works, but will run out of coins fast that way. And—of course there are way too many ads that are way too long. Having to wait a few seconds isn’t too bad, but 25+ is ridiculous. The game is very fun & challenging, but I will not pay, so if I cannot choose the option to watch an ad, I will not pay. Another pet peeve: I have sound turned off so can play when my husband is sleeping, yet the ads all come on with sound. What good is that?! And so annoying. I also feel that watching ads in order to get coins is ok but if the game requires too many coins to move it forward then decreasing the amount of coins needed is what is necessary. While I found the game enjoyable, having to watch several ads in order to get enough coins to make the game progress was too much. A game should only take a few minutes to progress to the next part of the city, but due to the number of ads I had to watch, it was taking about a half hour to progress to the next part of the city. ✓ New animations - latest update USER EXPERIENCE NOT IMPROVEDUpdate on the 15 April has included some new animations. They are a bit too quick and confusing. The “floating” effect round the edge of the screen when (I think) you get two words in a row is disconcerting, seems to serve no purpose, and edges at my vision when I have a headache threatening to make it worse. I wouldn’t have minded if you speeded up the whole transition between one game and another, and the shuffles, but the way the shuffles then sit, then rearrange themselves in a shaking “flash dance” movement is absolutely awful. Again it is hurting my migraine sensitive head to look at this. I play this for the word play (which on occasions can be strange and very American, it fails to take into account the rest of the World, for example today one of the themes was Dodgeball - really a purely American sport ( it is not widely played in England or Australia) so a lot of guessing was done which spoils the fun and defeats the point of the game), and mostly find it very enjoyable and relaxing. ✓ It’s cute?It’s got all the pieces of a very nice time-eating game. Pretty pictures, the obligatory coin system, sounds that make you feel like you accomplished something and the option to get rid of adds for a simple fee. However, it would be a lot nicer if two things were fixed. One, after you complete a level an add plays, no biggie there, but I can vaguely hear an ending sequence to the level playing under the add, maybe put a pause on that till the add is done or something?? And two: the app still crashes about every 1-5 minutes. One time I had the sound turned up and as the app crashed I heard this weird noise that sounded like an old box television on the static channel. But following the change this week where to complete the daily challenge you have to now do a number of smaller puzzles each followed by an advert. ✓ Too many adsI Removed the game within hours of downloading it to my phone. Every word search required shuffling the puzzle’s letters - to line up as words. Each shuffle sends you to a pop-up with option to use 120 coins or “remove free”. It is not “free” because I spent 30-60 seconds on each word watching ads to download the same three games repeatedly - so it has a time loss factor cost. If you close the ad you lose the new shuffle that arranges the letters into recognizable words. Time is valuable, relaxing while playing a game should not require watching 30 seconds - one minute for almost every shuffle of letters to shift into place. Sometimes I had to do 4 shuffles to completely get letters in word form, for one word. Depending on the number of words in a particular word search you can spend 3-5 minutes solving a short 5-8 word search puzzle. If the purpose is for users to buy coins, or what ever, after downloading, be up front on the App download - say so! My recommendation is do not waste your time downloading this game if you are not interested in wasting more time waiting and watching dis-interesting ads, repeatedly, encouraging you to download more of the same type time-wasting games, or paying to remove ads. I would give this app 5 stars but for one thing: A ridiculous amount of ads. I realize free games need ads to support them and I don’t begrudge that. This app, however, sets new records on ad quantity. Ads to start a game, ads to go to new level, but most annoyingly, ads to reshuffle letters when no words can be made. It’s either that or spend the “coins” you earn by completing levels. Once you get to advanced levels this happens nearly every game! ✓ Unavoidable Pop Up and Way to Many AdsEven if you pay to remove the ads, you receive an “out of words” pop up which requires either 100 coins, watching a 60+ second ad or restarting the game. If you restart the game, the same pop up appears unless you find words in a different sequence. This pop up is now appearing multiple times in a single game so using coins only works for awhile. This is a real distraction from game play and seems both unavoidable and more pervasive as you progress to the higher levels. I like the game. It’s a little more complex than others as it does not provide the genre unless you use a hint. I am currently at level 250. Like others I paid the $2.99 to eliminate the ads between games, but reshuffling still requires you to sit through a 30 second ad. That is too long and after 300 + levels it is ruining the enjoyment of what could be an exceptional game. I would understand if a player chooses to reshuffle, but when there are no words left without a reshuffle it should allow an immediate reshuffle. It was a good break to play this game without so many automatic ads. I may scale back now. I did like the rewards system before when we volunteered to watch ads. ✓ Fun but annoyingThis is a fun game but a bit annoying. I don’t like the fact that the clues are all boosters that you have to pay for. For example the category clue is something you have to use your coins as well shuffling the tiles. Also the ads are very intrusive and last the 30 seconds not just 10 like other games. Again you have to pay money to get rid of it. They do have the feature that you can watch an ad to get a free booster which is nice. Another thing I didn’t like was when you are stuck or don’t know your next move there’s no way to restart and there’s no way to know if you’re on right path. The dictionary needs to be updated. Words like “mete”, “hod”, and “tare” are not accepted as extra words, yet obscure words such as “carr”, and “mus” are accepted. And then there are words such as “ture”, which are not complete words at all, yet they are accepted as extra words. ✓ Fun - turned irritatingAllI get a free games. So I understand your desire to get a little money from the ads. But this games has the most ridiculous amount of ads I have ever seen! If it weren’t for the ads this ap would be a five star. Because of the ads, word scapes is much more fun to play. And I think you earn coins faster because I have plenty (at the moment) to buy hints. I did pay for ad removal on that game because the purchase also came with coins and some hints so it was a super good deal. I also play two dots which has an occasional optional pop up ad that gives you a help prize. And you know what, I usually watch them so I can get the prize. They don’t come up very often and you can choose not to do it. So it’s still fun. I will be deleting this game because of the ads. Maybe in the future you can update the ap using some or all of these ideas and let me know and I’ll give it another try. ✓ Don’t waste your timeI found this game in an advertisement in another game. THIS game is not at all how it was advertised in the OTHER game I was playing. It actually looked interesting in the ad of the OTHER game. Then there’s the matter of ads on THIS game... There aren’t any more annoying ads here than there are on another other game but I’m saying this because the game still has potential (even though the advertisement for it was a lie). ✓ More Ads Than Humans Should Tolerate!Of the dozens and dozens of game apps I have, the game play on this one is really at the top. It’s fun and challenging and I would have given it 5 stars...except for the horrible ads! I understand and support completely the value of advertising/commerce in gaming; however, this is excessive imo. I have no other app that has this level of ad activity. Starting a game, restarting a game, ending a game, winning a game...everything cues an ad. ✓ Good game, but.....For the most part this is a very good game. I love puzzles and this is my new favorite. The content and design are great. There are tons of ads, but since I refuse to pay anything to play games, you learn to deal with them. The ads do give you plenty of opportunities to earn free coins that you can use for hints and reshuffles. The only thing about the game that totally doesn’t make sense is that it doesn’t automatically give you the theme of the puzzle. Just another way for them to charge you coins. What is the reason for this? I’d like know. In one update they changed this to be automatic. It was great. Then in the next update they took it away. To me, this should be a given. However, the last few days I’m annoyed that it interrupts my game and forces me to shuffle or restart. This is a horrible feature! I paid to remove the ads, now when I’m “out of words” it makes me either “pay more money” or “watch a 30 second ad. ✓ Ads to Shuffle the Letters!? Bonus Words Awarded OnceI really loved this game until I started running into a problem. I’d find several words, then there would be no more potential word to find and I had to watch an ad or pay coins to shuffle the letters so I could continue. I think it’s very poor game design. It doesn’t happen every once in a while, but every other game I play or more! I don’t want to sit and watch ads all day or pay a triple the coins I get for completing a level to shuffle the letters. It’s also frustrating that once you find a bonus word, you can’t ever find it again and get credit for it. I usually don’t write reviews but am doing so in hopes of the possibility of helping others not fall into the trap of downloading this app. No game should be completely reliant on either your endless purchases or having to watch endless ads. I enjoyed the game itself but if you find yourself at an impasse, which can happen often (it’s part of the format), then you must purchase help or watch ads. In watching the ads you are also forced to listen as well even if you have turned sounds off in the app and in your settings, this app overrides all settings. Having sounds on through ridiculous ads is not just annoying but a complete intrusion of the individuals personal choices and rights. I’ve tried to stay with the game for several months thinking that it may evolve as you level up, it does not, it actually seems worse.
