Simrad: Companion for Boaters for Negative User Reviews

Glitch?Love this app, but first time running it on my iPhone 13 and I just get a white screen when I open it… won’t go any further. Help?.Version: 2.0.30

Worked then hangedIt could have been a great complement and app to my EVO 3S, but now it does not work at all and hanged on a premium subscription screen and can’t get it away despite restarting app. So buggy and I would not trust it for navigation in case it hangs….Version: 2.0.3

2.0.x version a huge step backwards (and bad support)I used to love this app. I used to recommend it to my friends as an important navigation aid. My Go7 has some navigation, but it won’t auto route. I bought this app because of the ease to navigate to a waypoint. It used to be this easy. Go to waypoints, pick a waypoint, select Goto and then boom you had an autoroute in deep channels from your location to where you want to go. For some reason that feature went away. Now, to get the same functionality you must create a route. That doesn’t sound bad, but these are the required steps. Go to waypoints, pick your waypoint, pick route to, swap order (app assumes you are leaving waypoint ???), pick current location for start point, save route, name the route, click done, navigate to routes menu, select route, finally click Goto and you can begin navigation. So what used to require 3 steps now requires 11 steps. ELEVEN!!! Product manager what were you thinking!? The developers response is fun and subtle play of words. I wish I was naive and willing to accept such misdirection. My review is based on the removal of the “Go to” feature. The auto-routing feature between waypoints works exactly as it always has. The “Go To” feature, which is to go to a waypoint from your current location is gone. I’ve reduced my rating to one star for not listening..Version: 2.0.32

Constant Instability handing off routesI have a iPhone 13 Pro Max. I use the Simrad app with a NSX 7 and 9. I have tried syncing the phone to both units where the phone is the hot spot and the chart plotter is the hotpot. It works slightly better with the chart plotter as the hotspot but constantly locks up the app when handing off routes. I will be left with a white screen. This just happened again and now I can’t even log into my Simrad app as I’m getting a “corrupted JSON received from my API” message. I do all the planning on my phone, in hopes to hand the route off to the boat, and it never works. Right now I can’t log into the app to even see my work. Frustrated to say the least..Version: 2.1.8

Good, but flaky…Best chart maps on the market, by far…however app crashes when synchronising with plotter in boat. When it does synch, it duplicates 3-4 fold the waypoints, which need to be deleted manually. I prefer over Garmin for chart detail, but disappointed by the surprisingly flaky tech. The auto-routing function is superb, and almost compensates for poor tech..Version: 2.2.1

UnreliableApp was working seamlessly for a few days but now stopped working. I. Addition there is no way to speak or email someone in customer support for the App other than to write a review. The problem is that the App will no longer let me login. I get a Corrupted JSON error message saying that my email is is not good or something along those lines and nothing I do can fix it..Version: 2.1.8

App is extremely glitchyI did not expect this level of poor performance from Simrad. Very disappointed. Using the app with all of its problems makes me want to throw my phone through into the ocean. The back button doesn’t work, the top of the app screen doesn’t align with iPhone properly, crashes completely at random while you are doing something. not sure how this app made it past quality control. Wish I could have my money back. I have the Simrad nss evo3 and the experience is 10 times more enjoyable if you forget about using your phones Simrad app for anything.Version: 2.1.8

Hasn’t worked in over a week?!?!?Painful app.Version: 2.1.8

App won’t let you purchase subscription.Tried to purchase the yearly subscription, when it goes to certify the purchase with Simrad it can’t. Apple shows the subscription and will charge even though you can’t get the app to recognise the purchase..Version: 2.1.8

Keeps failingI am so disappointed in this app. It keeps dropping out with the white screen of death, the interface is very clucky. I have both subscriptions to navionics and simrad and apps are worlds apart, I find myself using navionics most of the time….Version: 2.1.3

Routing and synching just don’t workI’ve had this app for 3 years. I don’t know what you’ve done to it, but First, it doesn’t want to synchronize with the boat anymore. You press the Synchronize Now button on the boat….and nothing happens. (Yes, all the settings are correct) Second, it won’t autoroute. I get a “we cannot auto-route here” error every time. You can’t even try and adjust it yourself. Moreover, the search feature is completely broken. Typing in the name of a well-known Marina…it doesn’t recognize it. So, I try hitting the “Marinas” button in the nearby areas— it says “nothing matches your search criteria”. Note— there are 5 marinas showing on the map…!!! This makes no sense. What did you do to this app???? It used to work perfectly..Version: 2.1.8

Needs improvementThere are some good attributes to the app however, it needs more investment and improvement. It crashes a lot on all my devices, and is sluggish at times. Synchronization of waypoints is a disaster and rarely updates. I really wish Simrad would put a few dollars in this and make it far more useful and reliable. Even a two star right now is a courtesy simply because I do like my Simrad head unit..Version: 2.1.8

Syncing is terribleI seldom write reviews but decided to do this one because this app is so bad that it constantly froze whenever I tried to provide the feedback it asked me to give. Below is what I tried repeatedly to tell Simrad but couldn’t. Oh, the positive? The navigation and charting (C map not Simrad) is excellent. I have 2 x networked evo 3s and the Simrad app. The sync between them is appalling. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When my plotter syncs to the cloud it is totally hit and miss whether my phone and ipad will update. The ipad and phone routinely have different data even though both are logged into my account. Sometimes a device won't update for months. Worse, most of the time the plotter won't recognise either mobile device for a non cloud sync. I switched from Navionics because C map shaded relief is better. However, syncing is more important and Navionics worked perfectly. The Simrad app doesn't even have a sync now button. When it does sync I end up with multiple waypoints with slightly different names. Premium price for a product which is worse than beta level. If it is not fixed I'm going back to Navionics..Version: 2.1.8

Lots of features not enough tutorials or supportI really love all the features in the Simrad, but they’re not very intuitive and there’s very few detail videos on how to get basic things done like going from point a to point B. Also, there’s nobody you can call to walk you through things, unless you really know about navigation apps before buying this device, you should get educated on your own.Version: 2.1.8

Can’t log inCan’t even log in says error.Version: 2.1.8

Back button doesn’t work!!!Please fix back button, I’ve rebooted app 20 times, app should be decent after this is fixed..Version: 2.1.1

Rubbish expensive appFails to load weather and wind. Makes it hopeless as a marine app. They never fix it. Now I understand the app data has been hacked!.Version: 2.2.1

App has zero supportThis new simrad app is ruined! Half the time it crashes the other half of the time it does not know where you are and the dock to dock navigation constantly keeps stopping. Cannot download offline maps even though I paid for a premium subscription. When you try to contact support through app nothing happens. I tried to contact simrad and they say they do not support the app contact developer!!! Click on developer help I. App Store takes you to a broken link. Download maps still does not work with latest update 2.0.5 also app still crashes and no marker showing where you are… contact support not working still you should give us a refund for a broken app!!!!!!.Version: 2.0.5

Needs Watch supportI use this app mostly for screen mirroring and controlling my Simrad GO9X and that functionality seems to work just fine. The ability to look and plan a trip prior to getting on the boat is nice. What the app is really lacking is Watch support. It would be killer if it displayed one or two items like speed and depth on the watch. Then having a shallow water alarm on the watch would be absolutely amazing. Hopefully the devs can add something like that soon..Version: 2.0.15

It’s GPS, Navigation, and weather … ONLYIt’s all the same features in my SeaRay app, but the Sea Ray app is better. If this sync’s with all my trip data already saved on my Simrad instead of being separate and also downloaded all my engine data/maintenance info, then it would be worth it. Right now it is redundant..Version: 2.1.8

AverageCan’t sync enough marks. Sometimes everything is lost and needs reloading. Great potential but not great at present.Version: 1.0.19

May 2021 update is terribleI have been using this app and was happy with it. The recent date has removed height and depth settings from auto routing and now only has a death filter that does not work properly - it’s dangerous because it doesn’t actually shade the deaths it says it will in all areas of the map. I subscribed to the premium because many free features were removed such as AIS but cannot even download off-line maps because it says my subscription is outside of the area. App now also frequently crashes and says the map is loading for long periods, where it didn’t before the update. Overall the update has totally broken this app it’s not useful for boating anymore..Version: 2.0.3

Not ready for productionI tried to submit this information to Simrad and ‘an error occurred’ (go figure?) Does not work unless you have cel phone data. Even though I have downloaded all charts I require the app loses them and I cannot access until I once again have a cel phone or wifi signal. Satellite view does not work without data…ever! This feature is not downloadable. While running the only options you have for tracking are with your vessel in the middle of the screen or a static screen with your vessel leaving view. Where is the follow ahead feature so I can see what’s in front of the vessel? This plus many more issues that would take to long to post here mean that this app is a piece of junk that was not ready to be put into service but now they have my 60 bucks and I am stuck with it!.Version: 2.0.25

Missing FeaturesThe App is ok. Shows the channel and depth well enough. I find the go to useless as it goes as the crow flies and not in channels or at taking depth into consideration? What’s the use of entering my draft? Also, I’m surprised at the inability of uploading pictures tied to Places! I like to take pictures of docking possibilities or other key attributes. No go. I also think that the app can be more configurable as to show weather over top..Version: 2.1.0

Worthless AppI’ve been a paid subscriber for 3 years because I have a Simrad chartplotter and wanted to make it seamless for map charting functions. Unfortunately after working with many techs after hours of onhold time, they were completely worthless in assisting me with synching. Now the service has completely shut down while I’m on the water trying to complete a trip back from the lower keys. Shame on me for wanting to believe in their technology..Version: 2.1.8

Problematic AppSadly, the app is not functioning as it should be. Especially when operating side by side to one of simrad’s chart-plotters. Complete disaster, premium subscription paid too and still nothing. It’s basically a 60% dysfunctional app which Simrad HAS to pick up their game on as eventually we all will look into changing Hardware too let alone the app… developers - start coding, project managers - start utilising your overtime!! Thank you all.Version: 2.1.10

Autorouting is dangerous for beginnersOkish app for syncing but autorouting app does not take into account any nav beacons, sand bars or safety buoys in general so beware if you are looking for an alternative to navionics.Version: 2.1.10

Offline maps don’t workIt says that the area I am trying to download is too far outside my offline area. I never was given an option to choose an “offline area”. Had I been given the option, the area I would have chosen is the area I am trying to download. No answer from customer support..Version: 2.0.4

Buggy - Crashes a lotBuggy, crashes a lot. Especially with anything to do with tracks, saving tracks, recalling tracks. The update process with NSO evo2 is not clear nor easy and also requires SD card as well... Overall the chart plotter is great on iPad, but the app crashes are a 2-star at best. Using on iPad Pro 12.9”.Version: 1.0.31

App not workingBought a sounder and was excited about using the app only to download it and find it unusable. Cannot find any information as to when it will be up and running?.Version: 2.1.8

FrustratingThe app does not configure well to the iPhone. It is a task simply to get the Back or Save functions to work. Every time I use it, I have to exit out and reopen the app, because I’m stuck. Ironically, I downloaded it because the Simrad screens on the boat are a nightmare to use. Sadly, this is slightly better..Version: 2.1.8

No supportI’m writing this review sitting on my boat. I have all my data on my phone and I’m trying to port it to another unit. I register the device in the app and it says it successfully paired my device and the device is no where to be found. Try getting in touch with simrad and you can’t - you fill out a questionnaire and they will call me in a day or two when I’m 400 miles away from the boat. I run a boat club and garmin is way easier to get ahold of if you need help right away..Version: 2.1.4

Used to love this appLast summer is subscribed to the Simrad premium version and it gave me online navigation. I guess in the off-season some updates were made that got rid of that feature because it now only allows me to create offline routes. This is really inconvenient when trying to get to my saved places. I called Simrad and the tech made some calls and advised me with the paid app it still has this feature. Well my subscription doesn’t expire until August and apparently I’m on an old subscription plan which “may” be causing this issue. Im still waiting on a call back from Simrad to advise on how I can utilize this feature again. Please help..Version: 2.0.28

FrozenDon’t subscribe. It worked fine on free mode. I subscribed and started using the extra features etc. The developer did an update and completely froze my screen with a congratulatory message and some free offer I can’t see because the message is way to big for the screen. I can’t close it to access the app. This happened a couple weeks ago and I’m done my vacation now. No way to contact Simrad or notify them at all and I’ve wasted so much time on this app and I’ve only had it a month. Took my money though and no way to request a refund. I thought this company was better than this but I feel scammed as they have taken my money and I have no access to the app because of an update they did..Version: 2.0.6

Seems to be fixed2nd Update now that I’ve used their products for more than a year, the app and my NSX unit are fantastic. However, customer service is atrocious. It is shocking that their owners, Brunswick, would allow this to continue. On a scale of 1 to 10, customer service gets zero. Update, seems to be working fine now. when it works, it’s a great app. Previously—-Finally got a message from CMap (which is the underlying mapping app). They said there had been a data leak and they’re working on it. Just took a long time for them to get this information out. Original message App doesn’t work any longer, I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling. Cannot login. One communication a week ago on the website saying they were problems. No further communication even though I’m a premium subscriber, they have my email etc. Called customer services and was told I was 12th in line. All they had to do is send out an email and follow up with an update every few days. Nothing wrong with a plotting feature on the boat, it’s just the iPhone app fell into a dark hole and doesn’t work..Version: 2.1.10

Doesn’t work crashes and locks. UpFreezes frequently, doesn’t support the “floating island” or resolutions of new iPhone models so you frequently get stuck on pages and have to force close the app because navigational buttons to take you to next or previous page are unresponsive because of their location. App is so riddled with bugs I can’t even use the built in form to submit bug or feature requests as submit button does nothing….Version: 2.1.9

Auto routing no longer worksLike others with the supposed “legacy subscription” auto route used to work. However, even when I’m logged in with a restored subscription, it does the crows (fly) you route over land. I see there are other similar reviews with comments from the developer, stating that may be the user is not logged into the correct account. No, we are all logged in with our Chris accounts and this issue is a real thing..Version: 2.1.8

CanceledI purchased the app again, as I purchased an NSX 3009 for my boat. With the app, I’m trying to set home port, the app says to move map to the marker in the center of the screen, at your home harbor. There is no marker in center of screen on my iPhone 13 Pro, nor on my new iPad. What is the deal??? Support on your website just runs you around in circles. Glad I canceled subscription before free trial ended. I contacted support several times, finally I received a reply, asked me to forward a screenshot, I did at least 4 times, no reply since. Satellite imagery is a joke. Too bad, as I was looking forward to purchasing their hardware for my boat..Version: 2.1.4

Just a white screenNothing there. Now I have to stop the free trial. What a waste of time..Version: 2.1.0
