✓ Updating my review but for some reason can’t edit itFor some reason I have to write a second review as I can’t update my previous review. I just want to say I initially gave this 4 stars as I was having an issue running multiple instances and got in contact with the developer with my problem and he got back to me with what had been the problem and patched it. Superb support from a top tier iOS music developer. Always loved their apps and seeing how quickly it was sorted i am a happy chappy. I can 100% recommend this app even if you own all ElliottGarage’s previous drum apps. Forget about my previous review. This is an awesome app. It has now replaced all my other drum apps as my go to when on the go I am hoping this review replaces my previous one as this deserves the 5 out of 5 rating it’s got. ✓ Great overall but export of waves files needs updatedSo far I’ve really enjoyed this app. It works great as a plug-in inside GarageBand. I wanted to try exported the wave files and importing them into garage band but they don’t match up with the other tracks. Tried it numerous times but still won’t work properly. ✓ Clean, efficient, powerful, but I want more.Let me start off with the fact that this is a great plugin. It will fulfill most people’s needs. I just want a little more tweak-ability for my own personal uses. I am new to iOS music production, but I have spent a couple years engineering/producing on desktop in more traditional studio & DAW environments. Things that I would love to see implemented in this app are complete flexibly over the swing from 0-100% instead of just in 25% intervals. Sometimes you just need that 79% swing if you know what I’m sayin. To go along with that, I would love for there to be an option to toggle the quantization on and off. Since it automatically quantizes to whatever grid subdivision you have set it’s hard to make a sloppy Dilla style beat with good feel right now. So either the ability to toggle quantization on and off, or more options in the subdivisions, such as maybe quintuplets (1/20th notes, 5 notes per click) or other odd note groupings would allow for more sloppy and angular sounding grooves. Again this app is great, especially since it has AUv3 multi-out. Those are just some things that I’d like to see in a drum machine..Version: 1.22

✓ Yes you DO need this drum app!I was a little on the fence whether i really needed another drum app since i pretty much own them all already... But i am very glad i got this one as well. Playing with it for about five minutes already confirmed that i made the right move. ✓ Fix Ableton Live Project exportI like this app a lot; however, the Ableton Live export does not seem to work properly. When exported and loaded up into Ableton, the samples are blank wav files. If this could be fixed ASAP it would help greatly. Also it would be nice if this app could use more than 16 sounds slots and 16 patterns. ✓ The absolute BEST drum Auv3 on iOS/macOSThis is the best drum app/auv3 available for iOS and macOS. It is the perfect and finishing complement to Drambo. On top of that, you get Ableton Live 11 Lite with this! So you literally have all you need between this and Drambo! A full drum machine Auv3, a full modular Groovebox, and then a full DAW. So what if its limited to 1 bar progression?* Just make another track or loop or section or whatever host your using. Anyone from audiobus complaining about EG Pulse one bar sequencer is literally a hater or another developer because I’ve tried and tested and asked all I could, and it literally took me 4 years to find this app. I can assuredly tell you if you are looking for an AUV3, this is the one you’ve been looking for. There are kits for every genre of music, and you can use the sequencer in any host to do anything you need. This is EVERYTHING i was looking for, because the kits are great, it runs smoothly, stable and very low memory. Do not hesitate to buy this if you are looking for a drum auv3. If you are looking for an acoustic drum auv3 app, this is the only and best option out there. I wish i found this 3 years ago! *Don’t listen to anything from audiobus forums that puts down an app, because they usually have no basis for what they allege and they are usually serving another developer’s agenda. There are very, very few acoustic and electronic drum machines out there. In fact, I doubt there are less than 3 (not counting apps that have drums like Cubasis or Korg Gadget). This is the hands down best, clear cut winner for Auv3 and Ableton Link IAA apps. Drumperfect Pro is absolute trash, despite the high praise (reminds me of Auria Pro and WaveMachine Labs selling out to a non-coders rendering it useless since 2019). Lumbeat and Drum Session were good apps, but they are just IAA, which is outdated and obsolete, and they need to make them AUV3 to compete. I also heard all developers sold out during covid, like WaveMachine Labs. When developers sell their companies, they should disclose that so people know they aren’t buying the same product anymore, and wont get the same customer support..Version: 1.36

✓ Great app, easy work flow, no brain no pain!This is a great app , the user interface is awesome ...and so well ergonomically designed you barely have to read a manual. I love the fact that you can chop up longer samples in 4, 8, or 16 slices and adjust the slice markers so you don’t get clicks and pops. I was able to chop up some drum beats and layer individual drum hits on top of the rearranged loops FAST, that bass drum will funk you up Boyee !!! I prefer this app over Beat maker 3 , Korg gadget 2 and iMPC pro 2! EXCELLENT POGRAMMING!!! It would be nice if in the future an option is added to Copy the entire play mix or single patterns to the “iOS general pasteboard” and have an "open with" option too so pastin and using audio in other apps would be easier and quicker..Version: 1.14
✓ Thanks for this great AU Drum Machine!There are some really good drum machine apps on iOS, but E.G. Pulse is one of the first to go AU, meaning it stays in just the state that it’s in when you save the host project, so coming back to it you can pick up right where you left off. Also meaning that you can use multiple instances. I love the ease of creating kits using drag and drop from the files app! The only additional thing I could really wish for is multiple layer and round-robin sample modes. Also, as with all the E.G. apps, for some reason the volume is always low compared to other apps. Not that it’s that big a deal to turn the master fader up, but it always puzzles me, so I’m mentioning it here. Neither of these is enough to drop a star though, since it should be more than 5 stars already!.Version: 1.04
✓ An excellent drum machineThat’s a lot to love here, multi bus out, simple to use gui, and very good sound quality. Putting your own samples in is a breeze. There are a couple of areas that need some attention such as drawing automation can be a bit laggy and glitchy. Beat offset seems to add beats, maybe I’m using it wrong. Developer is super responsive and helpful so I’m confident small bugs will be ironed out..Version: 1.19
✓ My favourite AUv3 drum app so farWhat I initially thought was quite a simple app, has really surprised me by its depth and usefulness. The AUv3 sections of many drum apps are often quite cut down, seem like after thoughts, or are quite specific in their purpose. This app however, is what I believe a modern AUv3 should include. In AUM, with its multiple AUv3 outputs and the newly (as of last update) mixer output selectors, make this app pretty much the best in class for effecting multiple drum sounds or samples with other fx apps. Expanded, this could even be one of the best sample players on iOS that does not fall into the layer sample player arena. I would very much recommend this app for the scenarios I’ve mentioned above. This is the first app I’ve bought from this dev. Thanks for adding the toggle for MPV pad positioning, this is very helpful..Version: 1.18

As well as built in sounds, you can drag/import your own and mix and apply each sound within EG Pulse as an AuV3 instrument, separate from the DAW e.g. GarageBand. This is so useful because you can have one DAW track for many custom sounds+samples without wasting other tracks. You can even record other GarageBand instruments and AUv3s into it within GarageBand. You can edit, normalise, mix, change pitch, change speed and apply FX to each sound individually. The developer was even kind enough to fix a bug I contacted him about and I'm very happy with this version which works perfectly. This app is essential for making music of any genre..Version: 1.36
✓ Update: Better every time I use it. ‘PianoForte’ drum pads!The pads do a pianoforte trick - soft to forceful, depending on how high on the individual drum pad you tap/strike it. This is a revelation, I don’t know why I didn’t notice it. It’s kind of obvious as a technique, and is genius for that reason. As someone much better at music than myself told me, louder and softer is the most basic and fundamental variation you can introduce to a performance. So a more recent usage of EG Pulse, shows lovely touches I thought best to mention: the pads. You can enlarge these so there’s fewer of them, but in either size, you can use ‘settings’ to make the gain/volume of each drum hit vary the higher up the particular drum pad you strike it (it’s called ‘vary volume by y-axis’ or similar, in ‘settings’). In ‘settings’ you can also set the view to be some other type of fascia, but I tend to leave it on ‘MPC’, I presume it is fashioned after the iconic sampler box. Samples: I bought the lot I think. There’s EG 808, and a lot of ‘EG’ versions of similar drumbox type units. I think I will be using this a bit more now, it just takes me a while to get oriented with an app and to get into it. But you can use your own samples. TIP: You’ll set ‘host sync’ inside GarageBand using EG Pulse as an AUv3, and it’s BPM will not budge…just hit the GB ‘play’ arrow briefly and off again, and the EG Pulse bpm will latch on reflecting the host rate. Older stuff I said: So I tried the other 3 or 4 drum apps on my ipad pro 2 and either IAA or AUv3 made no odds, it was sometimes they would work, others not. I am not a power user of drums, I want to input a decent drum track and it needs to sync to the host eg Cubasis 3 at the moment. EG Pulse does, the AUv3 operates solidly and reliably. I have other drum apps that have lovely percussion from exotic faraway places etc, but they don’t work inside of eg Cubasis 3. The early days of iOS are gone, when people marvelled that an app sounded like the real thing - now we may well use iOS as the major DAW platform - I do - and as always in tech, interconnectivity becomes a prerequisite as the market matures. EG Pulse therefore, has been created to be what is needed now, not like the older drum apps I see lauded, which are little stranded islands. If you want to incorporate drums into a song, you at least need to connect with a recording app, if not be fully AU compatible. Cannot comment on super-detailed aspects, but it works with the DAW I need it to sync to at the moment, and the drums sound clear and it has built-in patterns, which is my preference. There’s a little row of the Cubasis icons for flipping into Cubasis, as well as the ‘go’ arrow and a ‘record’ dot. These basic transport controls, you need accessible, and so my use case may be simple, but this drums app delivers..Version: 1.36

✓ Great work flow but needs a lot more workUpdate: Thanks to the new update the samples crackle less at 180 BPM. How ever there is a limit. If I am using about only kit sounds I’m good. I go beyond 4-8 then then crackle happens all over again. One thing that helps is it looks like pulse can be used as a midi controller? If I’m right about that, thenI can just midi connect to a different drum machine that will have the sounds I want but now with a better controller. ___________________________________________________________________ The biggest pro about Pulse is the quantize snap option for the grid mode. If you are looking to cook great beats in a snap by going to the grid and using just using only 1/8 or 1/16 or what ever, it so easy because you are never going to hit a note out side of your snap selection. Such a SIMPLE concept. I wish every beat machine had from Electribe Wave to Patterning to Beatmaker 3. The snap feature is the best thing for live beat makers on iOS. It’s like scale mode for beats. That being said, I’m wondering if Eliot Garage primarily makes beats at 100 bpm or below for their own music projects, because, Pulse, “snap crackles and pops” its samples at 126 bpm and above. It was really hard to listen to. I’m on an iPad Pro 10.5 (which I have put the fastest beats through it) using only the kits and samples that are included with the app. This was quite disappointing because I am working on beats hitting 186-200+ BPM. There are some great sounds here in the soundtrack EDM banks that would be perfect for PsyCore and HardCore but the audio engine of Pulse just can’t handle it. I’m hanging on to the app for about 15 days in hopes for an update that will fix this problem. If not then I’ll have to send it back. It’s a real shame. Great beatmaking interface. Awesome Samples, and a terrific workflow but if it’s clipping Sound of Izraels 505 Techno kit at 136 BPM, what’s the point?.Version: 1.06

Ableton added this and I find it helps when I have a ton of kits.”***** I’ve owned many hardware grooveboxes, Maschine, MPC’s, ableton Push, Elektron gear and tons of drum synths from Battery to Guru etc etc. Having multiple instances of EG Pulse in AUM controlled by a MiDI drum pad might be as fun and productive as any combo of above. The ability to also not use a controller and have this on phone in my pocket as well is just nuts. So fun, flexible and an absolute deal.
