App not user friendly at all.I am pretty computer savvy but this app is really bad. The app opens in a very small window in the middle of the screen on an iPad, as though it is a miniature phone, yet the control to get a larger picture is outside of the app window in the bottom corner of the screen. The app crashes often and I still haven’t discovered how to turn up the sound. Settings such as screen size make no difference and do not save. They just revert to the previous settings. A dreadful app. Needs rebuilding from scratch..Version: 1.99.621

Kills LTE connection after playback on certain providersHi all other iterations of the DMSS app work perfectly well however this one since three or four updates back will literally kill the data service on Spark & 2Degrees NZ cellular networks (also will do this if using a cellular broadband connection) its as if the provider is blocking the connection to the internet after the P2P connection is established between the nvr & device… calling is not affected but the data is killed! I have waited for 30 mins and tried to toggle the mobile connection but the only way to resolve the issue is to restart the mobile device to “break the connection” it doesn’t matter if I’m logged in on the app or not.. and live view works perfectly… it’s ONLY ON PLAYBACK.Version: 1.98.000

Fake reviewsThis app is loaded with fake reviews. Actually, I highly doubt this review will even get posted because it is not going to favor the developer. However, regardless if your NVR and iPhone/ipad is on the same network, you are required to go through a cloud service. In essence it is a relay system to communicate with your NVR. Why is this necessary if both devices are on the same network? If I use a web browser and connect directly to my NVR, no issues. Second, who or what sees my password when connecting to the cloud service, is it encrypted and is it stored there too? Why are other vital information needed to even use this app? Often times the app needs to be killed on my iPhone and restarted otherwise it hangs at 97% down loading. Mind you my network is a 10g back end so why does this happen? For best practices, all of my cameras are isolated on a separate VPN and have no web access. They can only access my NVR. This is to prevent rogue camera software from reporting to some bad place which you can see it doing so on the network trace. The app has a lot to be desired and the fake reviews of praise and customer service make you think that you are using the best software out there. Don’t be fooled, its a typical half baked product. You’d think working notifications are a must for a surveillance appBiggest flaw with this app is that tripwire notifications simply don’t work. That renders the app useless for anyone looking to manage security in real time. This is a known issue raised by many before me and yet as the months tick by, no fix has been deployed. If it doesn’t work, turn the feature off and accept you have work to do. Otherwise users are forced to troubleshoot forever until they realise the app is the problem. Waste of time. The overall layout of this app is also a dog’s breakfast and typical of novice app developers. Needs work. Recommendation: start over again and just copy Apple’s design thinking, don’t spend time in front of a whiteboard thinking you know better. I also registered with DMSS and created a user ID to sign in. Underwhelmed yet again. Don’t bother, there’s no benefit (eg: extra configurations, more features) in having an account. UPDATE: On home screen, I press Live but only one camera displays. So I add all my cameras back. I then leave the app. Return to app and press Live. All cameras lost again, need to be added back..Version: 1.99.411

Great app but would be amazing to have soundThe interface is pretty intuitive and pleasing. The one issue is that sound does not play from the cameras without the full channel being opened (as in to get sound you have to turn the two way talk fully open so your sound plays through the camera too). It would be great to have a separate phone microphone toggle and camera audio toggle..Version: 1.99.610

Horrible AppNormally I do not write reviews but this app is horrible. The original app was a lot better, less bugs and so much easier to play back footage. Every time I try to play back footage on this app I scan to the time I want to play and maybe it will play back my footage if it feels like it, many times it doesn’t load and if it does load it freezes after a few seconds. Then when I try to to a different time it won’t load footage and brings be back to 12:00 midnight. It so frustrating. Surely doesn’t help if we need to play back to look of somthing serious happened on camera..Version: 1.72.000

Buggy & not user friendlyUpdate: Latest update (as of Feb 15, 2023), has killed the playback function — not able to see any recordings. ——— I have to revert back to iDMSS as notifications for tripwire don’t work, nor I could find the settings. Same old unreliable reputations on Dahua range apps, but iDMSS has stabilized a bit. Further, it now requires two taps to view the live stream instead of just one tap in the iDMSS —— Update User experience not great. I continue to use iDMMS plus for live view, this app is better for playback only. It requires two taps to land on live view..Version: 1.99.400

Still doesn’t work through a VPN connection.It only works while connected to the home network, if I connect to my network through a VPN on the phone (there’s no way you should need to open the nave direct to the internet!) then it fails to work. The old iDMSS pro works perfectly..Version: 1.90.000

HeeeeelpI used the old version of the app with no problems and got an alert to upgrade to this version at the start of the week. I’ve upgraded and do prefer it but it only works if I’m at home on my own WiFi. Using my phones 4g signal produces an error and using friends WiFi produces the same error. I’ve never had this problem with the previous app. It’s probably a 10 second settings fix but I wouldn’t know where to start. The error is a login timeout..Version: 1.31.000

Aggravating AppUnless you are well versed in computer language, then this is an app to be avoided. It installs okay but setting it up takes a miracle. If you do get it to work don’t celebrate quite yet because it stops working with the “connection failed” notification. When going to the help section you will discover hard, if not impossible, to read instructions. Had my system installers out to replace an outdated main unit and even they had to contact the company to get this all working. Bottom line here is that if you only need a security system for home use, then consider a ring doorbell or other easier to use system..Version: 1.96.002

I dont understand the good reviewsThis is a UK review. Whever we go in the UK, do i try and load these cameras on my iphone 13 and its just garbage. The push notifications are great and seem to work well, but buy the time the cameras have loaded the person/thing that triggered them is well gone. The amount of times its gets to 97% and fail. Its so annoying. Whilst at home the cameras are good quality, but the app is garbage. They have recently decided to take off the push notification which camera the push has come from. I dont understand why in a product meeting someone would say “hey you know this feature that lets people know which camera the push came from - lets remove that, that will make it better” In summary, cameras are good, the app is garbage. I wish i never spent 1.3k on the whole setup. Before anyone tries to blame the internet connection, these are setup with ethernet to router on an fttp setup. The doorbell from another well known company that might ring a bell, works perfect, loads all the time everytime fast and that just uses wifi..Version: 1.99.503

Notifications suddenly stoppedAll was working until a few days ago notifications suddenly stopped , settings not touched, just stopped receiving notifications , deleted app , installed again , setup as before still nothing. Live streaming ok , nvr settings all ok .iphone settings checked and double checked. Btw we have two iPhones and both cannot receive notifications This also happen with iDMSS plus , we both did the upgrade to DMSS and now after a few weeks same thing Now we have no notifications we have learnt that the system is only as good as the app Please fix.Version: 1.61.000

Motion detector failureI put this system at my company which operates from 6 AM to 4:30 PM. The entire reason I got the system was for night time so that I could monitor and get notification if anyone was on my property. In order to set up the evening and night time motion detector you have to go camera by camera through multiple steps just to turn it on and go through the same steps to turn it off the next morning. Otherwise my phone will blow up the entire time my plant is up and running during the day with constant notifications. If anyone wants a system with motion detectors I would absolutely recommend buying somebody else’s system. This was a total failure and I regret! There are cheap systems on the market that you can do this with a switch of a button or you can program the system to do it automatically. Do your homework and spend your money with someone else!.Version: 1.95.000

Good except for issues with playbackNothing has changed since this review. If there are any improvements to the tool I will review again but until then, my comments remain the same. 1) The tool is easy to use apart from the playback where it is extremely difficult to find the active movement over the course of the day unless you know the approx time you are looking for. I have tried every option but none of them are as good as the previous version where you could jump from one active point to another. 2) I also have an issue with playing live or video on my iPhone from anywhere outside of my own home. 3) The colours used to indicate active and inactive for the threshold alarm are not easy to understand. Grey = active and blue = inactive. I would suggest green = active and grey = inactive..Version: 1.99.621

Used to be great but no longer worksThis app used to work very well but randomly stopped connecting about three months ago and the help section has not been any use in getting it going again. Instructions such as “check that the port and IP are correct” are fine if you know how to do this, but for an non-expert mean nothing. Zoom function has bugI tried new app on two different phones. Zoom has set to too close to view and can’t zoom out to normal zoom out as I can do on old app. Zoom in and out function is stuffed up. I re-installed new app today on 24th April 21 but same issue with new updated version as well. I emailed support but no reply. Unreliable software!!Since upgrading to the latest software, I can no longer connect my cameras. Have tried everything. Even the original installer is perplexed as to why they no longer connect. I’m sick of failed to connect messages. Before this I had issues connecting all the cameras. Sometimes they all connected, other times they didn’t. It seems with each update, you lose some functionality. And playback was frustrating! Clearly you can see many reviews from customers that repeat the same issue. Notifications and other features don’t workThe system is ok but there seems to be so much issues that needed me to call the company that installed the cams- the feeds were not coming like not detecting motions or notifications not working. Some I was able to fix it myself but it’s a headache and security issue each time the company asks for my login credentials which I feel is privacy risk. Each time something is disabled ( not sure who is making these changes behind or someone has access) not good if I have to do forensic on it. PlaybackOnly had the cameras and app for less than a day. Cameras are great, find the app very easy to use. Like the features of motion detection and alarms etc, however the playback function work up until there is a motion detection then cuts off completely saying connection failure, what’s the actual point of having cameras if you can’t see the reason the motion detection alarm has been triggered. Not very intuitiveIt feels like the user interface lags behind the hardware - it’s not as easy to use as it could be. I’m having some occasional issues with the consistency of the movements of the cameras versus the controls on the phone. Video stream is good, the app needs workThe quality of the video is amazing, however the app has a problem, while trying to play playback it constantly refreshes and says connection error, there is no error from the internet on my side, if you scroll through the playback it will play a few seconds of the video and then it turns blue saying connection error if there is an update that can fix this it would be amazing, note I am using an iPhone 12 and it’s not the phone causing the issues on the app.Version: 1.96.000

Constant “connection timeout” during playbackFrom a Dahua user: Watching live mode doesn’t seem to be an issue but anytime I get a notification to watch a playback based on my cameras smart motion, it plays maybe 10 seconds or less of the recorded motion, and then stops, and says “connection time out”. In the world of “wired cameras”, this app does not work even remotely close to being user friendly, as that of a wireless camera. Dahua’s tech support has been useless on this topic. My iOS is running the latest version, My NVR’s firmware is updated, and I’m running the apps latest version of DMSS. Still the same issue over and over!.Version: 1.99.503

PlaybackThe playback on this app is horrendous. Playback worked flawlessly 1 month ago but since a recent update when I try and playback footage of just 1 camera in the app it constantly skips, sometimes skips ahead as much as 30 seconds. Also when trying to live play 8 cameras half of them now “Fail to connect” until you force close the app and re open it. Almost pointless trying to playback footage using the app..Version: 1.99.710

UNRELIABLEEverything you touch on here crashes the app, so in times when you desperately need to access the security cameras/footage it will fail you 9 times out of 10. Spent 4k on a security system run by an app made by a potatoe. Merry Christmas 👍.Version: 1.96.001

The App is adequate, some functionality could be improvedI find the app works quite well. I have come across a function that in my opinion could be enhanced. I use the system to monitor several cameras and receive notifications as and when motion is detected. I would like the opportunity to use the notification time schedule option on individual cameras rather than on the total number of cameras. This would help to reduce the amount of notifications where there is high traffic during certain periods of the day..Version: 1.99.503

Disappointing to say the leastReally disappointing. Playback doesn’t work. When I first installed the duhua camera system the app was very slow with the playback function and now since the update it doesn’t work at all. I have tried countless solutions and nothing seems to be working. It completely defeats the purpose of having a security system when you can’t even see the intrusion alerts at real time. After researching online seems I’m not the only one having this issue. Really wish I knew about this before installing this security system. Extremely disappointed. I will wait until another update but if nothing is fixed unfortunately I will be looking into installing another security system with an app that actually works with no lagging. Not up to the jobThis is not fit to use for a CCTV system. The main reason most people will want to be able to view their cameras on a mobile phone or tablet is to see what is happening when away from home and/or after receiving notification of an event. This app does not allow this. You can’t view any ‘event’ footage until about 10 mins after the event occurred. It will allow you to search for ‘smart’ events such as a tripwire , intrusion activation etc but it will not play the clip until about 10-15 mins after the event occurred! What is the point of a surveillance system if you cannot view events whilst away from home until after the potential burglar etc has been and gone?.Version: 1.99.202

Issues with app after updateAfter updating the app few weeks ago, i’ve noticed issues with live audio being delayed and out of sync with the live view. It seems to work fine on the same phone having the older version installed. Second issue is when watching live cctv with audio - when switching between different cameras unmuted, the audio does not play automatically like before so I have to mute and unmute to hear the audio. It was not like this on previous versions. I have emailed the developers a number of times to fix the issue but I have not had any response! Please fix these bugs and stability issues!!!The new layout for the app is awesome. Playback works much better on this app.. When it works. I have a very hard time getting the app to stay open longer than 3-5 seconds without it crashing. As an installer I have quite a few devices on my app. I don't know if that's the issue or if it's just not a stable app. It's very frustrating trying to show customers how to use an app when it crashes 3 times during the process of showing them. Tripwire Notifications Stopped WorkingTripwire notifications stopped working two weeks ago. Have tried resetting recorder, turned notifications off & on both on DMSS app & iPhone, uninstalled and reinstalled the DMSS app on iPhone however still no tripwire notifications. A bit frustrating to not know real time any tripwire movements. Defeats one of the purposes of having a CCTV..Version: 1.99.303

DMSS Notifications and camera viewing away from wifi doesn’t work.Since downloading the APP update the system doesn’t work through mobile data but rather wifi only. So much for monitoring your cameras away from home. You have to be home and use wifi to see the cameras operating. How stupid and annoying is that. I keep getting signed outI used to be able to login to multiple devices at same time, 2-3. Now I can only sign in to one device at a time. If I leave home I have to sign in on my phone, at home if I sign in on my tablet my phone is signed out. Also a problem if another household member signs in, I get signed out. Really TerribleThe App is supposed to work seamlessly with the Dahua MVR - it didn’t. It was recording trip wire breaches then kept reporting loss of connection. When you try to review the trip wire captured video, it showed 00:00:00 to 00:00:00 or 40 seconds of video. In either case it didn’t allow you to view the recording. Then when the app is paired with the latest NVR firmware release it stops working with the trip wires and goes out of sync timebase wise. I had to revert back to the iDMSS version to make it work, but the cloud based aspects of that app won’t authenticate me . What a right mess..Version: 1.98.002

Utterly useless and frustrating!We spent a lot of money installing this system. Works well using the same home WiFi but when you try to access on your phone when you are away it just doesn’t work. We even tried to connect using friends’ WiFi but nothing!!!! What is the point of this. Playback issuesI don’t really play much with this app but in the last few days I wanted to check something on the videos and the experience have been frustrating. The playback keep stopping after few minutes with message “connection failed”. Straigh after the playback stop, if I quit the app and open it again it gives me only half day available to view in playback. I wait a bit more and I can select the full day but again, after few minutes of playback it drops again with connection failed. It gave me also a different message that I cand really remember, somenthing about not enough memory I think. Really frustrating.Version: 1.93.001

Favorites are now hidden in latest update!!Home Screen should be for CAMERAS! This is literally the only reason this app exists. Why did you move the favorites to some hidden menu that I need to click 4 times to get to??? This should be front and center when you open the app. Not even an option to add favorites to Home Screen?!! Why!! Don’t make me tap 5 times to open the live camera views it is so inconvenient for the user! At least the previous version gave you favorites on the first page when the app is opened. Stops sending notificationsRandomly, I will stop getting notifications on my phone. I still get them on my iPad, but I have to delete the app and reload and then set up every camera again. Then sometimes only some cameras send notifications, and the others don’t. The whole point is for me to know when someone is on my property. If you are thinking about installing a security system that uses this app (Dahua cameras, for example), please don’t. PS, if you look at recent reviews, this app would be rated about a 1.5. Tripwire notifications not workingLike many other users, our tripwire notifications suddenly stopped working and nothing I’ve tried has fixed this issue. If you want to know, in real time, that someone has come to your front door or you’ve had a package delivered, there’s no way to get that notification which is really frustrating. AngryWhy do apps constantly “fix” things that do NOT need fixing. Up until three days ago I was receiving all the notifications I wanted to receive. Now suddenly “local device” has appeared on my Home Screen and I get no notifications. I can not find where to change it. Support is in Chinese. Change it back! Meh..This is app is ok but its not ok to the point where i would recommend it to someone. Recently i bought a £500 Camera System/an XVR System and the sound on these camera’s...😱 they are absolutely terrible, it can hear noises very loud from far away (e.g a car sounds like an airplane landing) but can’t hear conversations right underneath it but you can hear the neighbourhood around, incredibly strange. Who wants to hear the rest of the neighbourhood where the point of CCTV is to protect your property and surroundings, if i had the money i would definitely bin it and buy a new one, also every few seconds I put it on live it always says “connection failed”. Really poor appMy company has fitted nearly 1000 Dahua systems in the last couple years and the general feedback from my customers is that the cameras are great however the app is really bad and ruins the system. It’s clunky, not user friendly or easy to use and just doesn’t work a lot of the time. The recent problem is notifications not going straight to the app on the new iPhones or Samsung 21. I have Sadly started to lose all confidence in the product which is a shame as the picture quality is great it’s just the app that really lets it down badly. My advice to Dahua would be to look at the app for concept pro and copy that. It’s so so much better for the customer to use. I would argue that the reliability and functionality of the app for the customer these days is more important than the picture quality. Our account manager told me at the start that Dahua spend around 430 million pounds per year on R & D, please please Dahua surely you can invest some of that money to have a much slicker app for your customers???? After 3 years of installing Dahua I am now seriously considering switching to concept pro or going back to Hikvision purely on the basis that I know our customers will prefer their app..Version: 1.99.401

App doesn’t sent notifications after updating a week agoI have updated the app a week ago as the latest update notification came up in App Store iOS. Since I have updated to latest version the app stopped sending motion detection notifications in the DMSS app and on my I phone. I have check all the relevant notifications settings in DMSS app and my I phone settings. I have also reinstalled the app however no luck at all. It’s really frustrating I’m trying everything to get this notification working. Hope developers of this app be able to assist to fix this issue..Version: 1.99.302

Playback function is unstableInstalled this app having happily used iDMSSLite for a couple of years without major issues. This so-called upgrade seems to be a downgrade in functionality. I have spent literally hours trying to playback an hour from 2 nights ago. After about 10 minutes playback, the start time defaults back to zero and fights to not be re-set. Developers need to ensure that every function of an App works before throwing it out to the public!.Version: 1.91.002

Issues with tripwire featureThere is a problem with the tripwire feature. We are not the only ones I hear with this problem. The problem is that during the time frame, the trip wires are set, it doesn’t matter whether anyone is crossing the tripwire, just that they are within ANY range of a camera. This creates false alerts unnecessarily, which is burdensome to the recipient who receives texts constantly because of it. it doesn’t matter whether the trip wires are set for human, vehicle, or both, it happens regardless..Version: 1.99.411

Useless appFor months now the app doesn’t work, we went through many lengths to figure out why and still no resolution. Main system in the home works fine but the app on my IPhone and the app on my husbands Samsung galaxy no longer work. We can’t watch any playbacks, can’t watch in “live time” as an error occurs always saying “connection failed” but still works perfectly fine on the main system. Had a security system installed that is useless when you can’t watch the security notifications when out of the house. Playback DysfunctionalPlayback doesn’t function correctly. There are a number of issues with this feature. 1. Cannot select a date range. 2 Cannot select a start and finish time, only option is date.3. In selecting a date with Record Type set to All, error message pops up “No video clip is found”. When using the NVR/desktop directly, footage is available. 4. Human Motion alarm/detection has been enabled on both the NVR and within the app. Notifications received within the app however, when selecting the notification message the clip cannot be played. There’s an error message in top left of frame “no record”. When reverting to “Playback”, and selecting Record Type to ALL or Motion: Human there’s no clip available within the app however, there’s footage on the NVR. This doesn’t provide any comfort on the reliability or seriousness of a potential threat to property when away from the home. Expect Better!.Version: 1.96.001

Sadly no good review from me!We have paid for a system and told to get this app. It is the worst app. I used to get notifications and no longer do and also on the two occasions I have needed footage the recording jumped and we missed what we desperately needed. If you want to find footage on this app, and you slide the time scale along it keeps going back to the start. It’s so super frustrating and absolutely useless. I have gone between IDMSS & IDMSS plus and they are both just as bad. Im sick of trying to solve this and talking directly to the Dahua experts and they only say to get this app it’s the best…well developers walk the walk that everyone is selling this to be and fix it!.Version: 1.99.421

Notifications don’t work as they shouldBought these cameras to have a strong sense of security. Notifications are set to detect human movements. Am getting notifications when an insect flies too close to the camera. Absolutely useless because an insect is not capable of break and enter (and steal). Intercom cannot be operated from a phone. Pointless because I was told these devices could be operated remotely but now I just leave everything open and switch all notifications off. I’m sick of being woken up at 3am because an insect flew too close to the cameras. Absolute joke.Version: 1.99.400

App is flakyAgree with the recent reviews, there are problems with the latest version of the app. It lost contact with the camera system. I was advised to reset that (the old switch off and on again advice), did it and now it’s only a partial connection. I have live view but no other features. All the camera settings have been renamed. No play back of recorded footage. Just painful, and I’m questioning whether it’s any use as a security device. Still under warranty so I’ll be calling on that..Version: 1.99.000

Could be so much betterI am an installer and usually use hikvision with the Hik connect app. After suffering many issues with the new hikvision software decided to give Dahua’s products a whirl. I find the dvr’s gui better and a lot quicker but the DMSS app is not as good as the Hik connect. 1 of the main problems for me is that the push notifications do not save on the phone until you physically press the push notification. Whereas the Hik connect will store the pictures on your phone regardless. Another annoying thing is not having the ability to input a specific time. You have to start at midnight all the time. If your customer has poor internet this can be troubling. Would be nice to be able to do an event search as well for all line crossing and intrusion events. Please rectify these issues or unfortunately I will have to switch back to hikvision. As the app is everything these days..Version: 1.81.001

Needs UI testing and improvementWe recently had this installed for our front gate. It seems the designers of the app need to do more user interface testing as it’s very clunky…reasons below: - Like previous comments, the app takes ages to refresh to current video footage outside. - The buzzer notification is often hard to hear on my phone…it would be good to have options on the buzzer sound. - I can’t seem to download the app on my Apple Watch which is annoying as I just bought one so that I would be able to answer whilst working in the garden. - If I want to add different pass codes for different visitors, it’s not easy. I have to go into a back end URL. - when you press the lock/unlock button, a button for 2 locks appears…Lock 1 and Lock 2. I only have one lock. It would be good if I could remove/hide lock 2 as I don’t need it. - in general the user functionality is terrible and confusing. I’m sure there’s other functions that I might want to use or explore but it’s not straight forward so I’ve given up..Version: 1.95.001

Improvement suggestions- have a unique sound in the app for when intrusion detection occurs - the developers would benefit from looking at how great the google ring software is - suppress alerts option ie turn off alerts for a certain time frame - when motion detection occurs let the event automatically appear in the app rather than having to click on each notification on the phone, in order to see the event in the app. - allow recording of more than 20 seconds when intrusion detection appears that looks like a bug Found the app to randomly crash also Not such a bad app but could do with the above minor tweaks Good luck The latest update has broken the app The messages section no longer displays any AI activity and when the event appears on apple ios and you try to view the footage it says ‘no record’ Please get this fixed!!!.Version: 1.61.001
