Minimalist: Password Manager for Negative User Reviews

Price jacked upBeen wanting to switch from Bitwarden, happy to wait patiently for a sale. However while waiting the lifetime price has increased $40, absurd! So guess a sale will be the old price, brutal!.Version: 3.4

No more lifetime licenseReally glad I purchased the lifetime license before the developer got greedy and took it away. This is still a good password manager, but for $5/month there are quite a few more capable password managers out there for less money. Development also seems to have stalled somewhat, with the last update over 2 months ago, and quite a few requested features still missing (like a menubar app or browser extension). I'm still cautiously optimistic for its future, but I am far less enthusiastic about it than I was when I first tried it out..Version: 3.4.1

LovelyI’ve been looking for an alternative for 1password for a while and found this app. I put off purchasing the one time purchase of this app because I’ve lost count of the times an app has promised their one time fee is forever, until magically it isn’t honored and needs a subscription to continue. So I patiently waited for a sale of any kind, only to find on Black Friday the price went from $60 to $100. I have no choice but to purchase now because if a company can raise their prices on a holiday where everything is on sale, surely it’s only a matter of time before they raise the price again to $150 or higher. Edit: what a disingenuous piece of work the developer is. Literally less than a week after my review they removed the “lifetime purchase” feature, the timing is almost too coincidental to be anything other than spite. They removed a feature purely to spite one anonymous reviewer, is that the kind of company you want in charge of your passwords? The most laughable part is they also removed one of the preview photos of the app across all platforms saying how they understand people hate subscriptions and promise there’s always going to be the ability to lifetime purchase the app. I think I’ll just go back to msecure now, the subscription is cheaper and the developers aren’t snakes and actually understand the meaning of the word “integrity” that this dev is so proud of calling himself..Version: 3.4

ICloud and Mac FirstDone with relying on Dropbox to share vaults Done with constant nudges towards a subscription model Done with lock-in Done with 1Password and their venture capital founders leeching my wallet In with clean design In with iCloud sync In with a licence not a subscription For the first time in a long search I've found an Apple focussed solution with clarity and simplicity to the fore. Edit: downgraded to three stars with removal of one-time purchase..Version: 3.4.3

Now a Subscription Model / Incompatible with Older MacsI did the free trial of the app before committing to the $99 one-time purchase, which at the time was a proud pillar that the company was using to differentiate themselves. I was disappointed to discover that the app is not compatible with older Macs, so I decided to wait to purchase until getting a new Macbook since the site gave every indication that they were committed to offering a one-time purchase. Now I see that they’ve pivoted to a subscription model, one of the biggest things their marketing spoke out against just a couple months ago. Bummer! The search continues….Version: 3.4

Wanted to like thisI really need to quit 1Password — it's too expensive — so I had been eyeing this as a repalcement for a long time. Tonight I finally downloaded it and imported my 1Password data. Once it was in, I was extremely disappointed with the search—and without good search, this app is useless to me. Example 1: I typed "1pass" in the search field to verify that my entry for 1Password was imported. Nothing changed in the search list. I had to scroll down to the bottom (where it sorts numbers, after letters, for some reason) and verify it was there. Example 2: I often need to search all fields—a feature 1password has—but this app can't do that. Well, good luck finding stuff if your search doesn't work..Version: 3.1.2

Good start, needs additional featuresThis is definitely going in the right direction, especially with the system integration... too bad that integration doesn't extend to other browsers besides Safari (not everyone uses Safari). However, it really needs labels, categorization, or something to help organize things and displayed in a side bar. Alphabetical just doesn't work for large collections. Yes, there is the drop down, but that doesn't allow custom organization of items. Also, being that we have entered a world of Crypto, having a cryptocurrency template and category would be great. Other than that, keep up the good work..Version: 2.9.9

So promising but hampered by  limitationsI have tested this on iOS and macOS. In terms of design, this is 5⭐️: this is the password interface that  should provide. The decision to use only the AutoFill systrem and shun browser extensions is commendable: much faster and more secure. Unfortunately, it comes at the cost of certain key functionality, due to  and not the developer: inability to fill-in 2FA TOTP codes, inability to save new logins, inability to fill in credit card info. Still, this app has advantages over the native iCloud Keychain: better interface, as mentioned; ability to tie multiple sites to the same login ( Keychain actually creates separate entries! Arrrggh!); adding custom fields to records. One thing that is advertised but does not work is the TOTP auto-copy to clipboard: lacking both the ability to auto-fill TOTP (due to ) and autocopy (bug?) makes this app too cumbersome to use as a daily driver. Some day, I hope..Version: 2.9.9

CricketsMinimalist was fantastic, and then it just stopped allowing me to edit even though I have a yearly subscription. I’ve followed all of the instructions to restore my purchase, but nothing works and I get a message that the app has logged my issue and will fix in a future release. In the meantime, I’m stuck with passwords that I can’t edit. I also emailed the team and haven’t gotten a response. Love Minimalist’s commitment to privacy, but their lack of support — not so much..Version: 3.4.1
