DeepL Translate for Negative User Reviews

AutocorrectWould be better if they turned off the native language autocorrection. If I try to write a Dutch sentence it autocorrects all the words to random English ones as I type.Version: 2.8.1

Need to improve Chinese, Japanese and Korean translation.Need to improve Chinese, Japanese and Korean translation. App should allow users to thumb up or thumb down translation and manually correct error and send back for review..Version: 2.11

Latest Version Lost Critical FunctionalityThis app isn’t cheap. But I have found it worth the price tag as its translation abilities from English to Portuguese are the best I’ve experienced. I live in Portugal and am very dependent on this app. But, sometimes it misses the right words and gets it all wrong. I have found its dictionary function invaluable to double-check certain words, so I can be sure its right before I send a message. So I was absolutely SHOCKED when this functionality disappeared recently, making the app no better than any other app (most far less expensive) out there. I sent a message and was informed that the dictionary function indeed has been disabled for the phone app. Why? This functionality was so useful and to disable it makes no sense. Also, its not what I purchased. I now need to go to a different app to look up certain words, which is ridiculous given that DeepL clearly has the ability to offer this as a phone app. Many of us use translation apps on our phones, not desktops, so this is very very disappointing and makes me lose confidence that with a paid subscription DeepL won’t make other decisions that take functionality away. I won’t continue paying for this app as it’s considerably less robust than when I purchased it almost a year ago..Version: 3.0

Unable to connectThe app has ceased working recently on both my iPhone and iPad. I get the message “Sorry, our servers are not responding. Please make sure your device is connected to the internet.” All my other apps are functioning as normal and there is no problem with the internet connection. I have deleted and reinstalled the app but the problem remains. It is a shame because the DeepL translator was my favourite..Version: 2.7

Buggy after two weeks useI was thrilled to find an alternative to Google translate. I'm a heavy user working daily in two languages. At first I was impressed with the desktop version making my life much easier with two keystrokes. Unfortunately, and to my embarrassment, I began getting comments that the translation did not make sense. Once I began looking I found repeated phrases, words I did not write inserted and gibberish that makes the translation unusable. For now I'm back to Google translate using your app only to quickly reverse translate messages sent TO me. I can't trust your translation and don't have the knowledge or time to check every time I use it. I give you an accuracy rating of 3 out of 10 and a confidence level of 2 out of 10. In order for me to use your product, which I would like due to security concerns about Google, you need to achieve 8-9's out of 10. I'd like to hear what your plans are for achieving acceptable levels and when..Version: 2.8.1

Completely useless on an iPhone miniThis was a brilliant app that I used all the time until the latest incarnation of the app and iOS 15. On a iPhone mini the layout is so cluttered with icons for the various options that the translations themselves are impossible to read easily. What was a great simple display is now a cluttered jumbled mess..Version: 1.5

Useless for meDoes not have all the language, so it’s useless for me..Version: 2.5

Sound is very badI have this app and all seems good but the sound is so low and I have tried everything to make it louder. I’m not sure if the app or it’s my phone. Bit disappointed. Every other app on my phone, the volume is perfect..Version: 2.4

Autocorrect ruins foreign language translationsI have used DeepL before and it has very good translations compared to others like Google. Unfortunately when using reverse translations (i.e. German to English) the app still uses English autocorrect which makes it more difficult than it should be to write foreign words. Surely this should be an easy fix by detecting phone setup language or turning off autocorrect completely..Version: 1.6

UselessUseless on my iphone 13. Initially impressed, but soon go message free use ended and had to sign into Pro. Considered subscribing but no matter what I did in app or even website nothing but gibberish would come on screen. Another feedback comment stated needed major revamp needed for IoS. I agree..Version: 2.10

Where is Arabic?I love this app and use it frequently. However, when I first discovered DeepL, I used it mostly for Farsi but then, to my surprise, there was no longer an option for Farsi (Persian - as listed on the app). Also, I have since realised that Arabic - one of the most common languages in the world - does not exist! Why? 🤨.Version: 2.10

English to JapaneseJapanese to English after dating a Japanese woman for 19 months I give it a B+. Required me to ask her what she meant in some cases, and with some words and it did poorly with gender him and her or you and I and occasionally would lose it’s mind completely but mostly I could read as it was English. However, English to Japanese is a disaster and she refuses to read it at all. Even when I translate the same letter Japanese to English and then back to Japanese and back to English again without changing anything, the meaning is different, so many errors and without knowing what it says in Japanese, many misunderstandings take place. English to Japanese is absolutely horrible! What is happening? Why is it so bad when Japanese to English is rather good?.Version: 2.8.1

Best Translator, Need Some UpdatesDeepL is easily the best translator available on the market. My primary use is English <-> Japanese, and there are a few weird quirks that mean I can’t uninstall Google Translate just yet. 1. DeepL’s text-to-speech doesn’t use the speaker on iPhone, it uses the phone speaker, so it’s extremely hard to hear. Other competitors default to the loudspeaker, so Japanese folks in translating for don’t have to read everything. 2. No furigana/ romaji. For anyone who speaks English, Japanese Kanji is difficult or impossible to read, so if you need to actually say something out loud, you still have to use a competitor. 3. No offline translating. While AI translation is great, if I’m in an area with no signal and in some kind of emergency, I’m forced to use another app that doesn’t require a connection. It would great if DeepL had a less-accurate, offline mode as well as the online mode. Other than that DeepL is great and many Japanese people that I’ve used it with have praised it’s accuracy and how natural the Japanese sounds, though it does tend to choose the more formal options in all situations. Definitely a must have for any English speaker trying to navigate Japan without actually speaking the language yet..Version: 2.5

It’s alrightI’ve been enjoying the website for months now and it’s been very helpful. However, on this app there are no extra definitions, sentences or dictionary provided like the website. These things are essential for a more comprehensive understanding of the word. I would like to see this feature on the app, until then, I’ll stick to the website..Version: 1.6

Good translation app, but demands you’re logged into your email which is a privacy concern!Good translation app, but demands you’re logged into your email account, which is a major privacy concern to me. I feel like everything I translate is being recorded:(.Version: 24.2

DesignYour iOS design is very bad. You have to change it..Version: 2.10

Doesn’t have the one feature that makes the website so goodWhat makes the website version of DeepL so good is that when you’re translating a single word it gives you all the possible translations of that word, for example maybe in English one word is used as a noun, adjective, and verb, but in another language you would use three different words for those different parts of speech. On the website it tells you all of that info, with lots of detail, but unless I’m missing something the app just simply doesn’t have that functionality at all..Version: 3.0

Your windows 11 app is brokenPlease fix the Windows 11 app. I installed the dot net but but it keeps saying install dot net….Version: 2.9.1

TrashInstalled , iPhone 13 pro max, wouldn’t translate Japanese to English via camera option. Deleted Ok update , developer contact states they are working on the Japanese translation. Positive move and big ups to the developers taking time to check my review.Version: 1.7

Not very deepThe L stands for list of languages don’t download if you need Vietnamese translated.Version: 2.9.2

Scam that deletes reviews!!ATTENTION!! This scam software is trying to make you pay for a non existent service and deletes every negative review after a day!! You can't even translate a single word on the supposed 'free version' because your 'free translations' are somehow already used. You also won't be able to ever contact support with the free version because you need to have "pro version to contact support". That should already tell you enough because if the devs would care about their product they would also care about free-version users reporting issues. One of the biggest and most unhinged scams l've ever seen!!.Version: 24.1

Bad for German.Unfortunately the free version of the app is not useful for German. It will mostly chose the formal Sie form, which sounds ridiculous if you use it to help in written conversations with friends. Sometimes at random it will mix with the informal Du form, which can bring you in trouble using it for any work related conversations. It is usually possible to switch between these. This should really be improved or made more flexible for basic users who use it for German. Otherwise the app is great. But this is a big unfortunate minus..Version: 2.4

ClipboardApp is not bad, just can’t clear the clipboard once something has been added to it. The paste function remains on the app..Version: 24.2

The update took away features :(DeepL is a go to on my language learning. I’ve always liked you didn’t need to make an account to use the basic features. But with the new update it seems there are no long multiple options when typing a phrase? I always liked that because it helped me understand at the level I’m learning (vs it is only said this way) Really bummed if this moved to paid. The desktop still seems to do it so thinking it’s just a mobile thing….Version: 2.11

Wasn’t very accurateI typed “마이데몬을 좋아합니다“ just to check if it was accurate. This actually translates to “I like My Demon.” Yet, it said “I like My Daemon.” If I were to send this to a friend, it kinda would've taken them a time to understand what I met by “Daemon”..Version: 3.0

Glitch right from the startI just got this app and I keep getting the message that says it can't translate the text because the network is sending too many messages to the server. I don't know why this is happening I've tried rebooting etc. it's not happening with any of my other translators. Is this a glitch others are having?.Version: 2.7

Creepy! This app got instant access to my photos and camera without asking for my permission! Also, after downloading the app, I got an email from Apple saying that my "Apple ID was used to download DeepL Translate on a computer or device that had not previously been associated with that Apple ID." I don't usually get notified when I install free apps. I'm not sure what's going on but I uninstalled it 😕.Version: 24.2

Great but…It’s a great translator especially for a web novel I’m reading that’s originally in Japanese however when I go to copy and paste the text from Japanese to English I get some lines of text that don’t translate correctly in any way shape or form. They say random things like “to get the most out of your time visit our website” or “if you don’t know how to contact us, contact us through our website”. But when I copy and paste those same lines separately in a new deepL tab I get the correct translation. What is this and how to fix?.Version: 1.2

Great AppGreat App, however the dictionary is no longer on the app. What happened? Please restore this feature! It’s an imperative tool to figuring out which word to select from the alternative options. I would have given 5 stars but losing this feature is a huge loss for me..Version: 3.0

Absolutely no use . Does not work consistently. Very disappointed. Why is this app never working. So far has only translated a sentence. If you try to write a paragraph it says the server is sending it too many messages. I have 5G satellite navigation. A good network and I am the only person using it in my household. The network is working at optimum for everything else but not this app. I would pay to have the prime version if this version worked. I do not understand the other reviews after my experience. Can anyone recommend a good app for translation. I do not mind if it is expensive if it works. Customer service is uncontactable so of no help whatsoever ..Version: 2.6

WhyI was using your website to write my essay and tell me why every time I write ECOLOGICAL it rewrites it as ECONOMIC? There is no suggestion to correct the word, it just rewrites it. And there are more words than this one, so that the whole meaning of the sentences changes…. Its sooo annoying… I write from Russian to English.Version: 3.0

Submitting bug reports costs money?Bug report - iPhone 13 Pro - iOS 15.7.1 If I type in a foreign word to translate, and it’s similar enough to an English word that autocorrect suggests it, the ability to press the x to ignore the suggestion is broken. The suggestion tooltip can’t be closed, and upon pressing the space bar immediately replaces the typed word, effectively breaking the app’s primary functionality if any word you want to translate vaguely resembles an English one. The only way around this I’ve found is to type the foreign language text elsewhere and copy/paste it into the app. Apparently the ability to submit a bug report or contact the developer at all is a feature exclusive to paid subscriptions, so I am forced to do it here to hopefully get their attention. I like the app and will update my rating to reflect my overall satisfaction if the dev acknowledges this..Version: 2.13

Getting worse and now limitsSeems to not recognise French words without the accent or translate words within a sentence if one is misspelt. Seems quite recent, and to add that there seems to be a limit (I didn’t see before), then is just not as good as it used to be sadly.Version: 2.11

Deepl App has not been working in New Zealand, what is going on?We have been using Deepl since last year and we love it! I would give 5 star but the app stopped working since yesterday (in New Zealand) and it is still not working today, I am not sure why and I can not find a contact email on your website. Could you please look into this? Thank you..Version: 2.7

Incorrect pronunciationI don't understand why when I want to hear how words sound in Ukrainian, they are pronounced in Russian. This misleads people who use translators that both languages have the same stress and pronunciation, which is not true. So it would be nice if you could change the pronunciation in the Ukrainian translation to the correct one..Version: 2.11

TerriblePlease just try to translate “How are you” or “ How are you doing” to Chinese, You would doubt that you are 20 years in the past..Version: 2.7

Be very carefulI use to think this app was the bee’s knees to translate French and German but since I have learned the language, I realise how bad it is and how it can change the context of what you are writing. Be very careful using this app..Version: 2.8.1

Made me sign-in and immediately blocked the screen for other appsOK. Great translation program, but started giving me constant pop-ups demanding that I create an account. Since the translation is good, I did so; gave my email and signed in. IMMEDIATELY, I could not remove the predictive typing bar from the bottom of the screen, which blocks the buttons of another application I require, rendering it unusable. I cannot use either app without being able to click-away the predictive typing bar. I have therefore logged out and I will have to stay out unless and until the problem is fixed, whereupon I would renew my subscription and revise this review..Version: 2.11

No dictionary featureThis app was good and worked well, but with the removal of the dictionary function you might as well use google translate. The dictionary function is needed to better understanding!.Version: 3.0

Used to be my favorite translatorI don’t understand what you did to the translator in the recent updates, but suddenly it’s not working as well as it did before. What happened to alternate translations? It used to provide a few alternatives. No more. Also, it doesn’t seem to comprehend context and grammar anymore. Example, if in Italian I want to say something with the Imperative, the translator only gives the Present. I never had this problem before. Please fix these things, especially the feature that gives multiple options for alternative words and translations..Version: 2.11

Good app but missing featuresLove Deepl, I agree that it is usually better than the other translation software available. The app is easy to use but is missing the features from its website, you cannot see definitions or see other translation options which is the reason for the 3 star rating..Version: 1.1

Deepl - Another gov. company run by a bunch of rats- Translations are incorrect too often. - Doesn't work on my iPhone anymore. Says I’m not connected to the internet, which just isn’t true. I’ve deleted and reinstalled, and still says the same thing. My guess is that they are just phasing out certain iOS’s. - Used to be able to translate 5,000 characters for free, then they changed to 3k, and now all of a sudden this scum company lets you translate 1500.... which I’m sure is just to force you get you to pay for a subscription. Next you’re only gonna be able to translate a paragraph for free. Rats.. - Just like every other money hungry company, you can pay monthly to have a subscription (surprise surprise), but never able to just buy a service outright. So add that onto every other app/service you’re paying for monthly/yearly. People, thanks to companies like this your now guaranteed to be working for the rest of your life. It’s just dumb. Every testimonial they show you praising deepl is from the biggest satanic companies on the planet. So what does that say about DeepL..Version: 2.9

Where has the European Portuguese voice gone?Hi been using this app successfully. Love it. But just recently, the voice for oral translation is only giving me Brazilian Portuguese!!! I can’t seem to change it to European. Deepl on my computer works fine!! but no longer on my iPhone!! HELP! I need European Portuguese not Brazilian!!! Hopeful of your help!!.Version: 2.8.1

LackingApparently this is meant to be more accurate than google translate but unfortunately this app doesn’t have the option to save words or phrases to favourites, it’s a function I rely on, shame as I would’ve stuck with it if it did. The audio is spoken by a male voice though which is more preferable than Google’s female voice. Can you add this to the app I wonder DeepL?.Version: 1.3

Increasing instabilityWhen it works it’s good. I used to love this app but over the last few months have seen it’s reliability drop significantly. It often logs me off from my account and back to the free service. When that happens it needs to be restarted. It is also frequently failing with an error. I can’t even raise a support ticket today as the login servers are broken. The interaction with the latest Apple software also needs to be addressed. Being prompted every time about whether to allow pasting into the DeepL application is a big deterrent to regular use..Version: 2.1

No transliterationThis app is a little better than some other translators but there are no transliteration which makes it REALLY difficult to read languages that aren’t using the English alphabet. I usually use this for Japanese and Korean but if I can’t read the translations then it’s useless. Especially with regard to Kanji in Japanese. Add transliteration and this app will be top tier!.Version: 2.8.1

Good translations, robotic voiceI find this app useful for English-Polish translations but it can be frustrating to use There are two minor issues. First, the website allows you to tap on a word in the Polish translation and select a different word. You can see how the sentence changes using an alternate translation. I wish this app had a similar feature. Two, tapping on the speaker icon gives the pronunciation in the most robotic voice I’ve ever heard. The voice isn’t clear and there is no way to change the speed. I also can’t find a way to select male or female voice. Update: many things have improved but DeepL still has an occasional „clinker” of a translation. This seems to occur because the translation is word-for-word and not phrase-for-phrase. There seems to be no way to report this. My favorite: „Nie bój żaba” which DeepL translates as „Don’t be afraid of the frog.” The full phrase is „Don’t worry.” or „Have no fear.” (no frog).Version: 3.0

Good but…….DeepL has a lot of good features like the camera, copy and paste and a lot more ,but it doesn’t have that many languages😭. please add as many more languages as you can. Like Arabic and Serbian. That’s the only languages I know of that are not on the list ,but there are certainly more..Version: 2.8.1

Need to fixIt’s started to work very bad after updating..Version: 2.12

Low connectionIt won’t download the results soon low connection.Version: 2.2

No Chinese traditionalThere’s no Chinese traditional?!.Version: 2.7

Ne fonctionne pasL’app ne fonctionne pas sur mon OS. Erreur 412. Impossible de traduire votre texte. J’ai désinstallé et retenté l’installation..Version: 2.6

Awesome translations butFantastic results. Unfortunately you can’t set the font size or choose to display the translation in full screen like Microsoft translator. This makes it very difficult to show the translation in a store or to older people..Version: 2.6

Weird translationsI use the french translation for grammar because i read and speak french. And more often i have had completely wrong translations that have nothing to do with what i wrote. The website works way better … the app is horrible.Version: 2.11

There is no ArabicWhere is the Arabic language?.Version: 2.10

Great app on computer. The app is lacking functionality!I love and use Deepl all the time when I’m doing work on my computer. However, using it on my phone leaves me wanting! It lacks the functionality of choosing between formal and informal communication and I don’t have the capacity to change isolated words in the translation as I do with the computer app. Give them 6 months to a year and this thing should be developed into a robust translation tool! Could you guys also add Ukrainian, Arabic and Persian? That would help everyone in Europe out tremendously!.Version: 1.7

Was great now awfulHas been great and solid until last week and now the microphone and speaker function only work on your first phrase or word. Then you must clean and close the app to get them back. Keep getting unavailable also..Version: 2.5
