StoryGraph: Reading Tracker for Negative User Reviews

Glitches all the timeI’ve had the app for 2 days. It has glitched out on me more than it’s worked. Tried to import my goodreads library, didn’t work. Tried open the app, I get a blank screen. Refresh it? Blank screen. Delete the app and redownload? Blank screen. This is definitely not making me want to keep the app..Version: 1.10

Great app! but-Amazing in every way, only thing is, can you add ‘adventure’ as one of the genre options for the survey. its the genre i read most, and since it isnt in there, not a lot of the recommendations apeal to me. not too urgent but would be great! thanks 😊.Version: 1.3

Crashes once a dayThe app frequently crashes, even though I keep it up to date. Going to the website is much more reliable..Version: 1.2

BruhEach page takes about 3 minutes to load.Version: 1.10

It just opens the web appThe StoryGraph website itself is really good but this app is just a webview that opens the exact same web app that’s available in a browser, it’s not native. Except that now navigating between pages is clunky and slow, transitions and animations between screens are weird, the bottom menu is too close to the home bar and scrolls with content, and it just… doesn’t add any new features. Keeping 3 stars because again, the product is good, but you’ll literally have a better experience just opening it from Safari and adding it as a bookmark than downloading this.Version: 1.7

Good app but strange glitchDon’t really know what is happening I get a white screen and can’t access the app. I have tried resetting my phone and the app. Still a good app but don’t understand why I can’t access..Version: 1.10

Won’t load after latest updateI’m trying to get onto the app, it was working an hour ago but now all I’m getting is a black screen. I’ve tried turning my phone on and off, turning my wifi off etc but nothing is working. It did the same this time last night too. Usually this would be a 5 star app please fix it, I have reading updates to add..Version: 1.10

OkI really want to like the app, however it’s not very user friendly/ intuitive. I will keep trying and holding out hope lol.Version: 1.2

Better than good readsThis app is much better than good reads. However it no longer opens. I just get a white screen..Version: 1.10

UnusableAs others have said this app is completely unusable. Simple things like deleting an in-progress read are some how impossible? The tabs make no sense. The lay out of everything is not intuitive and there’s so much extra junk. We want to track and rate books! I don’t care to see books that were popular like 6mo-3yo ago on a random recommended page. I hope they fix the app because I’d love to fully move over from Goodreads as I have long standing beef with their bonkers app too, but it’s the better of the two as of now..Version: 1.3

App not openingI was recommended to download this app but for some reason when I downloaded it opens and it’s a white screen for forever. I can’t even setup an account or get started. It extremely frustrating..Version: 1.10

MehWas in love with the app for the 3 days it worked. Now it doesn’t launch. Just opens and sits on a grey screen forever. Thanks for the ideas for my own app though hahah.Version: 1.10

Latest version a step backI used to love the app but the latest update is a huge step backwards. The option to change the edition of a book you’re reading/have read seems to have disappeared so the only option is to mark the correct edition and then remove the incorrect, which skews all journal entries & stats. Nowhere near as user friendly and aesthetically appealing as previous updates.Version: 1.6

Great for stats but Slow!I love the stats aspect of the app and the fact I can make little updates as I read my book that are private and not seen by anyone so I can write what I want. But my major issue is that the website/app is slow regardless on if I use my laptop or phone. My preference is always phone because I don’t often go on a laptop. On the phone it takes a long time for the app to get up and running (I don’t have wifi issues or anything) and a lot of buttons are just unresponsive or take a long time to fully load. E.g. the add note feature and then actually posting that note. Can make it frustrating to use and it puts me off of actually going into the app.Version: 1.2

Amazing features but wonky UII’m begging for the developers of this app to please upgrade the UI or at least make it user friendlier. This app has been growing popular due to social media exposure and as much as I want to fully switch to here from the other older popular app, the glitchy UI and too complicated pages are a big turn off. The features are great don’t get me wrong, but the execution needs a lot of work..Version: 1.4

Very buggy app :(I really like StoryGraph but the app itself is so buggy. It can only save about one update per day so I frequently lose track of my progress. I usually have to repeat my actions on the app in order to get it to actually save. For instance, this morning I’ve had to add the same book to my ‘currently reading’ list twice because it didn’t work the first time. I then had to add my progress twice for the same reason. This or similar happens every single time I use the app. I also frequently get kicked out of the app. If it wasn’t for the infographics that StoryGraph offers and it’s better reviewing options, I would have given up and gone back to Goodreads by now..Version: 1.10

The app is good, but imports are difficultI am a fan of the app. I like how it focuses on the topics the reviewers put it under rather than ratings. I also like the stats feature it provides and how comprehensive it is. However, I imported my data from goodreads since I’d been using that app to track my reading for about 5 years. The dates when I read things is one of the most important things I keep track of, but the imported books do not say the correct dates for when I read things. Because of this, I can’t look at any of the stats for the books I imported data for. In 2020, I read over 100 books but the app says I read 1. This past year I read about 34 books and the stats only show data for the most recent ones I put in manually. Because of this, I don’t know how likely it is that I will consistently be using this app over goodreads..Version: 1.2

Amazing concept. Unworkable UI & Buggy.Whilst the concept is otherworldly and a beautiful way to visualise your reading journey. The UI is far from optimised and fiddily. Not an apple app expectation. On top of this basic functionality like creating unique lists is hidden behind a tag function, searching searching books is far from intuitive, clicking certain paths get you stuck on a loading screen. The app crashes or does not load at times, and finally contact us sporadically won’t let you in to request assistance. The app requires a redesign and complete UI overall, has any user feedback been requested? Do the developers ask, how can we make this optimal? What’s the simple path / customer ask? I fear not and sadly rate this 1 star. Really hope the UI and bugs are resolved would love to come back and sign up for premium for this wonderful concept..Version: 1.8

So Glitchy, Lots of Books MissingI REALLY tried so hard to like this app, and still pushing through because I don’t want to use Amazon’s GoodReads but oh god is this app frustrating. Firstly it’s incredibly glitchy & slow, non-intuitive and logs me out sometimes. Secondly, so many of the books I read are missing and I need to add them manually. It might be because I’m based in the UK and some of the books I read are quite niche and new but it’s still a shame. Really hoping the developers will do a whole rethink when it comes to the design/UX because it’s completely non-intuitive and frustrating.Version: 1.2

Good, but not greatI s w e a r . . . If I misclick the add/edit tag button ONE MORE TIME, I am going to LOSE IT. That is, by far, my #1 gripe with this app… closely followed by an absence of a batch edit feature for adding/removing books in bulk from piles and tags. Or an ability to refine recommendations based on tags or the star ratings of read books. Or a “filter by pile” (include/exclude tbr, read, dnf) feature. Or a “stats per star rating” feature, instead of “ratings per book type.” Or a review filtering feature that sorts by star rating, post date, or popularity. Or a “pin tag to top of tag bank” feature. Or a highlight-importing feature. Or an ability to view public tags on a user’s profile and follow/collaborate on them. Or more extensive privacy settings. Or a “recommend to a friend feature” that appears on a friend’s profile and—okay, so maybe I have more than a few suggestions. I’ll stop. I’ll stop..Version: 1.7

Great concept, execution needs some attentionI love the idea of viewing the aggregated data around my reading habits, and in principle was excited to find an alternative to goodreads to track and plan my books. In truth, the platform has the workings of something great, but there are some technical shortfalls that are keeping it from succeding at the highest level. Opening the app to a dead page with no control but to force close, sticky nav, search and dropdown menus, and slow general performance is what i’m seeing my end. Might not be the same for all, and i’m still invested, just keen to see the back of those issues.Version: 1.10

Better than Goodreads- but still room for improvement! Some things I would love to see: - A spot on the top of my profile that showcases my top 5 reads of all time. - The ability to make lists/ folders. - A quicker view of overall rating when browsing, rather than having to click on the title. - I find the interface all a bit BIG.. text size, etc. Would love to see it slimmed down to look a bit more sophisticated and sleek. Basically… Letterboxd but for books..Version: 1.10

Won’t openAll day now my StoryGraph app won’t open. It’s just a blank white screen. I’ve deleted and reinstalled and reset my phone… nothing is working..Version: 1.10

Lots of functionality, but somewhat clunky UII tried this app because I wanted something that would show more data on pages read. I found that this app indeed has the functionality I was looking for. The support staff showed me that you can create a yearly goal based on number of books, number of pages read or number of minutes listened. There are also useful graphs to help visualize those stats over time. My favorite feature is that they show a random sample of books in your want to read pile. This helps to renew interest in books I might have added months ago. I think my biggest complaint about this app though is the interaction is a bit clunky and the visual design needs some work. The overall feel of the app is cluttered and busy. It would be much better if they could simplify it a bit..Version: 1.3

Needs workGoing to need a lot of work to adequately compete with goodreads. The stats are great, but that’s about the only improvement. The interface is confusing, and certain pages can only be accessed by several unintuitive clickthroughs. The look of the whole thing just feels outdated as well. The fact that everything, including going “back” to a page, scrolls from the right is just weird. There are lots of covers, page info, and correct editions missing from this database, and searching editions by ISBN has yet to actually work correctly for me. Importing from goodreads made a mess of all of my information; thankfully I don’t have a large library so it only took an hour or so to manually update all of the books that inexplicably were marked as being audiobooks. (The edition noted on goodreads appears to have been fully disregarded in some cases). The reading tracking also needs work. It automatically marks ALL pages as being read on the final day of reading unless you manually track throughout. And it has to be *throughout* because there seems to be no way to back date entries, it will only allow me to add one “journal entry” per day, even if I update it to be for a day last week..Version: 1.2

VERY BAD!I was left profoundly disappointed when I downloaded this app. I found it very slow and I think that someone needs a lot of time to understand how it works. Even creating a book challenge takes time to understand how to do it. When I searched a book, it took me a lot of time as it did not load. I am so sorry that this app did not turn out to be what I thought it would be. It is quite obvious that I will stick to Goodreads.Version: 1.2

Bugs Galore!I saw this new reading app being suggested on TikTok so I thought to check it out. I downloaded the app and began to create an account and decided to also import my info from Goodreads. It stated that it may take some time and I’ll receive an email once complete. While waiting, I took their book recommendation survey and was really enjoying it and getting exciting to play around on the app. I got an email saying the import was done as well. Once I finished the survey, the app got stuck on a loading page. It wouldn’t change and so I force closed the app. I went to re-open the app and the loading screen was still their even after I force closed it. I waited and eventually it opened back up to the homescreen but it logged me out. I tried logging back in, but an error popped up saying that the page isn’t working. As a new user, this puts me off and I cannot say whether I’ll continue to use or even attempt to navigate this app as it isn’t working at all. Please fix it!.Version: 1.1

Missing some key featuresIt's ok as a book tracking app. The interface is sleek and minimalist unlike goodreads. I would love using the app even more if it were a bit more user friendly. Like having a link to your friends list from your profile. Instead you have to access your app through the community tab which isn't really intuitive. It would be nice to be able to add your friends to buddy reads by tapping a button beside their name. The only way you can currently add new users to buddy reads is through the buddy read page. The font size and buttons throughout the app also feel too small. It really should be bigger to accommodate those with vision problems and make it more accessible. Also it makes no sense as to why you have to scroll down to the bottom to view the book rating. It should be at the top right beside the title. That would be more user friendly. This last one's a bonus that would take it to the next level but I would love to see a feature that allows you to link your kindle account and automatically track your reading progress..Version: 1.7

White screen?Downloaded and opened to nothing but a white screen. Redownloaded several times same issue..Version: 1.10

Too many glitchesI absolutely loved this app but now it glitches all the time. It’s so bad I can’t even properly use app anymore :(.Version: 1.10

So many issues. This app was not easy to use for me. i made an account with no issues but when i try to go back into the app later, it signs me out! i put in the correct password because i have it saved and it says wrong password so… i have to go reset my password. no, no, there’s a problem with resetting my password, i try to reset it again and it works! yay! i’m logged in! great :) next day, go back into the app… logged out again for absolutely no reason and have the same problems AGAIN..Version: 1.1

So promising but needs a lot of workI think story graph has a lot of potential but for me, it’s still quite difficult to use. I would recommend for them to improve their UX design; make it easier to find/follow or explore other users. I think they could do with overall better design of the app as well. Their suggestions for other books are spot on. I do find it difficult to navigate how to review the books you’ve read and track your progress. I do hope they improve the design and interface and make it easier to interact with, I could see it working so much better if so!.Version: 1.1

Broken since last update??I love using this app but in the last few days it has completely crashed for me. When I try using the browser version it says it is unavailable due to maintenance, so I don’t know if it is also due to this, but the loading times in the app have been a few minutes for each click, and today it won’t load at all. This is disappointing because I wanted to log my daily reading for january’s challenge. Please let me know if this is an ongoing issue or just something wrong with my phone! I have tried deleting and reinstalling the app but it is still not loading. Thank you!!.Version: 1.10

Cluttered, unintuitiveButtons unresponsive, cluttered interface that’s difficult to navigate. Used it for a total of 10 minutes before realizing it was essentially a static web pag..Version: 1.3

Sooo much potential… but a few things:There's a ton of potential to be better than Goodreads (especially aesthetically), but it's a little ways off for me to stop using GR altogether and pay for plus. 1) Most importantly, kindle integrates with GR - that's gonna be hard to beat, as I primarily read via kindle. I know this will never happen, but it’s a HUGE perk of GR. 2) I want to see the cover of the book I'm currently reading on the home page - it feels a little less immersive when I just see the text. 3) I'd rather have my "up next" books on the home page rather than random selections from my TBR. (Also I'd love to see smaller covers so we can see more than just two without scrolling) 4) The book ratings need to be more visible. Not only do you have to click on a book to see the rating, you then have to scroll all the way down to the bottom. If you want this to be a true GR alternative, make the book ratings more accessible. 5) Please give me a Home Screen widget! (Make it a plus feature even) being able to see the book I’m reading and update progress from my home page would be so nice. 6) too much negative space in the app. Everything needs condensed a little bit so you can see more on one “page,” without scrolling..Version: 1.7
