Affinity Designer 2 for iPad for Positive User Reviews

Fantastic iteration, phenomenal iPad experienceI have a small amount of graphic design experience so i feel rather out of my depth with this app... However it does what I need it to very well. The ipad layout is very clean and is deserving of every bit of praise apple has shown it by giving it awards. Worth the money!!.Version: 2.4

SaveeeeeBig fan, used v1 for like 3 years and used v2 for like a few months now. But there’s something it still lacks. Proper auto saving! I wish for there to be an automatic save after every single thing. Such as Google Docs, or Filmora (on iPad at least) other than that, I’ve gotten used to the UI but I do agree it is worse than v1’s. Still a VERY great app and very generous developers for such a low price!.Version: 2.0.4

Powerful drawing appI recently purchased a iPad Pro and downloaded this app as I had the original version on my Mac and was impressed with that. The version two of this app is fantastic and has a lot of great new features that I am only just beginning to scratch the surface of. So far, I have been very impressed with this app. It is a powerful drawing app with a whole host of features..Version: 2.0.2

Pro Level!Affinity Designer is the number 1 go to app for designing pro level material on the iPad. It make designing with the pencil actually doable. Say goodbye to the featureless apps that have you waiting to get back to your desktop!.Version: 2.4

A phenomenal graphic software at the best priceThis is the best graphic design tool hands down period! I used to be hung up on the other high priced product thinking the best got to cost an arm and a leg, not so! This product has brought back faith in the power of creation and giving access to the average individual exploring their creativity. The other guys go off the premise if you can’t pay you don’t play. Well this is a breath of fresh air, no subscription and no monthly fees because its a perpetual license and you get to play night and day, if you so choose. The technical prowess and the various tools leave nothing to be desired. These are primary tools comparable to the best of the other greedy guys plucking out the eyes and pocket books of the next evolving creative genius. This is certainly the way to go. Just try it, you will not believe your eyes and your ability to create..Version: 2.4

Well—I have Designer 2 and have tried to use it. But, I use Designer 1 for illustration work. it took me long enough to learn 1 and I just con’t get my head around 2. Before Designer I used Adobe Illustrator 10 that’s about 13 years old. You have some work to do to catch up with some of the features in that old Illustrator version. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve done some of my best work with Designer 1..Version: 2.1.1

Perfect solutionAll Affinity suite is one perfect solutions for any business and design needs. I hope Serif to develop and build more innovative solutions!.Version: 2.4

Great app, needs some smoothingAffinity designer has been a top vector tool on desktop. The V2 iPad update is not as fluid as the original one in how the interface is set up. Feels more like a desktop interface then the previous one which felt as if it were designed for a tablet. The results that can be created with this suite of software is amazing. Sometimes a bit of a step back (UI) can be good..Version: 2.3.1

Great software at great priceJust get it and you’ll be happy (unless you are adobe dependant at work).Version: 2.0.4

A Decade long user.Although some good functionality of v1 has been taken out that worked well, many more excellent new features are in this v2 version..Version: 2.0.2

BuenoBest vector app on iPad. Some bugs hold it back from being perfect..Version: 2.0.1

OutstandingAs a Photoshop user of many years since version one, and as a reviewer of other products, by the same company, I can unequivocally say that Affinity Designer goes toe to toe with any other vector drawing program. This app was executed almost perfectly for the iPad. I’ve been really enjoying being converted from a desktop to an iPad with respect to my illustration work. Affinity is an excellent company producing excellent products for an excellent price. I like buying the upgrades and I feel so much better not renting my Software..Version: 2.4.2

The best. The Affinity eco-system is excellent, incredible features, amazing value. Compared to the ‘competition’ it is the bargain of the century..Version: 2.4

More then worth the meezly amount they charge.I'm thrilled I have the ability to design without being locked into monthly fees. They also offer a comprehensive suit of apps that many artists now use...Version: 2.2.1

Affinity does it again.I’ve been using Affinity’s suite of tools on the iPad and macOS since they were in beta and they’ve not let me down yet. Designer 2 is a fast, robust tool that is a no-brainer for any creative looking to do serious work on an iPad. Highly recommended..Version: 2.4

All right, I’m inIt’s taken me a long time to decide how I feel about Designer 2 after using the first version. The giant change between the two is that it is now a near-exact replica of the desktop app; they replaced dialog boxes with a UI system that suits the iPad better (it would have been a travesty if they hadn’t), and you still have to think a bit laterally to figure out where to find features. But that’s not new. What held me up for a long time was the Command Controller. That’s the thing that substitutes for the keyboard: command, control, option, shift keys. The desktop version can’t work without them, and neither can this. That means my habit of holding the iPad in one hand and drawing with the other keeps tripping and falling down. It’s most annoying when it _almost_ works, then hits a snag. So I regret the loss of some workarounds that they’ve removed, like the ability to select multiple layers by tapping one then sliding on the others. Constant annoyance: to get to Help, you have to exit the current document, find it on the main menu, then close it and go back to the document. Despite complaints, one huge accolade: this is an iPad app that does almost everything its desktop cousin does, and its cousin is first rate. I may be about to copy and paste this to Photo 2, as everything here applies identically there..Version: 2.4

All worth the moneyLike many, I was fed up with the constant money grab from Adobe. Using all Affinity apps for years and I can say more that I’m completely happy that these exists. It’s even better than you can hope. Thanks Serif Labs, you should be knighted for service to the creative community..Version: 2.4.1

Better UI than V1!I use Affinity Designer on my iPad all the time for my business and I was so glad to see tools I use often move to the top instead of behind a menu. Although, I see it’s also still available in the menu as well. I’ve just downloaded and played around with it, so I don’t know if there are bugs. I haven’t experienced any. P.S. Super excited to see Publisher available for iPad so I can keep all my workflow on iPad!.Version: 2.0.4

Great app but needs bug fixLove it but the app keep crashing every now and then. Please fix the bugs so I can work on my iPad Pro 12.9 (6th generation) as well. Thanks so much Affinity team 🙂.Version: 2.0.4

Way better than the rating it is currently getting.I am impressed! I was skeptical at first because of the 3.4 out of 5 stars rating. But I have to wonder if some of the older reviews from before the upgrade to 2.0, are in the mix here. Or perhaps the app was not as good as it is now, when it was release 6 months ago. I have been using Vectornator and Procreate together for several years now, both of which I love, but also had steep learning curves in the beginning, given that I am just a serious hobbiest and not a trained graphic designer. This app, seems to combine the best of both of those worlds into one app! If you are new to drawing and vector apps, then yes there will be a steep learning curve. But that is true of all these kinds of apps. This one is powerful and I played with it for several days on the free trial to see it’s potential. As soon as I realized it was far exceeding my expectations and the rating in the store, I purchased it. Also, I had a couple of questions and wrote to support. I received a timely and helpful response. To me, that shows engagement by the developer. There is nothing worse than spending money and later discovering the app was abandoned. This one is clearly being worked on and actively improved..Version: 2.0.4

Great alternative suite to a certain other suite. This software suite is excellent. It does lack some features that larger, longer established and much more costly software such as Adobe features BUT it’s still packed with excellent features itself. The user interface is excellent, I found it very easy to transition from Adobe to Affinity. The licensing is a brilliant value for money model and all Apps are available on Mac, PC and iPad under a single purchase. Designer and Publisher are my go to Apps but I occasionally use Photo too. Thoroughly recommended..Version: 2.4

Affinity Serif is Awesome! This is the answer to Adobe CC. Love the fact that they are non subscription. Hopefully that wont change with Canva obtaining them. I know they have long to go but your imagination and creativity make up for the missing features (and I’m sure they will be coming) Affinity Publisher/Designer/Photo are good apps on your desktop and iPads and now that they will be part of Canva, sky’s the limit!.Version: 2.4.2

Excellent productI was seeking an alternative to Adobe Illustrator because I don’t agree with the subscription model. Affinity Designer 2 has been worth the purchase and I now like it more than Illustrator. There is a steep learning curve with the user interface but all of my questions were quickly answered with YouTube tutorials. It makes sense once you understand the UI. The only issue I’m finding is that it can be finicky to select text with pencil or by hand but this is not just nitpicking. Thank you developers for designing a well thought out product..Version: 2.3.1

Overall great, love using it but occasional crashesI bought the first version a few years ago and bought v2 as soon as it was released (universal licence) as i loved using it and basically bought my ipad air 3 for it! V2 has added some great new features and is far better value than it’s more immediate competition. I love using it on my ipad, and mostly find the interface great to use and has plenty of features available. Whilst i have given it 5 stars, in reality i would give it 4.5 as I do occasionally get crashes, usually on more complex designs with effects applied. I do wonder if it’s due to lack of RAM on my ipad air 3 but it’s hard to know. It would certainly be nice if it could handle such things with more grace in any case..Version: 2.3.0

No words for it !!!!This app is incredible , there is no point explaining, you just have to have it , you need to experience it , if you are a graphics designer and you are very well acquired with the Adobe Illustrator and you can’t be arsed paying a monthly subscription, because let’s face it , you are a slave to the Adobe if you are paying for a subscription each month just to create something awesome or amazing , why spend your money each month , when all you have to do is pay once and that’s it , 10x faster , smoother , and easier to you use even for beginners , let’s face it not everyone on this planet has money to pay each month , but if you do buy this , and you have nothing to pay for at all , trust me this is the app to get , vector designs , logo designs , infinity zoom art , whatever floats your boat you can create it , as they say the sky is the limit !!!!!.Version: 2.0.3

Great App & DevSo glad that dev reads, replies and resolves bugs! 5 star review update. (Reg bug finally fixed) thanks!.Version: 2.0.4

The best vector editor for iPad, but has a lot of bugsThis program, along with the other Serif Labs products, really makes the iPad a valuable tool for graphic design, and are far ahead of similar apps in terms of features and functionality. Unfortunately, all three programs are riddled with little bugs. They’re not enough to make the programs unusable, but they can become extremely annoying. For example, when trying to use fonts installed from a font manager or Creative Cloud, Designer can’t display the font until you’ve applied it to a text field, then quit the program and logged back in. Many English language font titles are shown in Chinese characters in the text options palette. If it weren’t for problems like these, these programs would be 5/5..Version: 2.0.4

Good program but often frustrating to navigateSo many things are hidden in not very obvious menus. Would be nice if it had keyboard support since most of there tutorials don’t have an explication on how to use a function on ipad..Version: 2.2.1

Great app but missing recolouring artwork toolI love working on my iPad. The only thing I’m missing in affinity designer is the recolour artwork tool from illustrator. I find it very difficult to try different colour palettes. Please introduce a feature like recolour artwork tool in affinity designer soon..Version: 2.1

Great appI started learning with version 1, but got the app after it was updated, learning has been difficult because most of the tutorials I found were made in the previous version, many things changed or disappeared in the update, but it has been a great experience learning, ups and downs as the app crashes sometimes, but I trust as it updates the bugs are fixed.Version: 2.0.4

Ending Subscription-Based Apps! This app does almost everything I need for my graphic design business. It could use a PowerTrace (vectorization) option and an integrated repeating pattern feature, both of which I’d happily pay for as add-ons..Version: 2.1.1

Best image maker imoBeen using this regularly for the last year to make social media content, logos, and art for my self. Even great for digital painting..Version: 2.1.1

Very powerfulIt is an amazing and very fast and powerful app. It is something between Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and Figma. You can merge all your project files in one file. Instead of having too many files. You can work on a same file with desktop and iPad version. You can annotate on your file, adding some notes on your artworks. The UI can be much better..Version: 2.1.1

Brilliant appWish I had this found this app earlier, would have saved a ton of money..Version: 2.1.1

Nice Upgrade I am pleased that I purchased V2This is a nice upgrade. I was able to find all the functionality I wanted fairly easily without too much hassle. In fact I quite like the way some of the more frequently used commands are available as a top menu bar now. V1 had the bottom tool bar although this is a massive step in the right direction to have intelligent context menu buttons to this level and it enables you to access stuff like, front to back layering, flipping, aligning, manipulating shapes and selecting directly from the top tool bar, so that’s quite cool. This also changes depending on which tool you have selected, for example if you have node selected and tap on a node you get the node tools like the trash can to delete etc. there are also some nice samples included. It is also refreshing to see the developers listening to feedback, the UI highlight colours are all fixed now, so it is now easy to see what is selected in the menus, thanks for fixing that it was driving me nuts. At first I wasn’t going to purchase v2 as I have v1 on all platforms and can still do what I need to, however, designing in V2 is much more smooth and structured for practical common sense workflow, productiveness, productivity and performance. I even purchased Affinity Publisher V1 on Mac & PC with absolutely no intention of using it. I just purchased it as I wanted the whole suite and to support the development of the next iteration of this amazing software and of course the reasonable price point was also a factor plus I knew I would use it one day and it would be there when I needed it and now V2 of Publisher is on iPad OS. That’s just awesome as now I won’t even need to get my Mac out when I go to use Publisher V2 as this comes as part of the universal license, as does everything else, all apps on all platforms, no subscription, simply amazing. Plus seeing the devs jump straight in to fix stuff is awesome and I loved v1 and what Affinity stand for (in my eyes they develop reasonably priced non subscription based high quality graphic design software that is within the reach of even indie devs like me). The software is amazing and after having a think I am glad I invested heavily in v1 and it makes me quite proud to think that I contributed at least something to the development of v2 by supporting v1 and if this is the result it is pretty amazing to be fair. I don’t even have to get my MacBook Pro out anymore if I don’t want to. I can happily do all the drawing/editing/sketching/tracing I need to with my iPad (2019) and my Apple Pencil (recommended but not essential unless you will be drawing or manipulating vectors). To be able to throw together some line art for my daughter’s product labels or stitch together some screenshots or trace a dragons facial expressions directly from my iPad anywhere and export directly to any format still blows my mind when I stop and think about it. Manipulating vectors, crazy magnification levels and Serif/Affinity are a British company so it’s nice to be able to support devs this side of the pond, plus as I have already mentioned this is definitely an upgrade. I think I can also see why Affinity have chosen the Universal License. Is it maybe so when v3 comes out they will know who has what and then they will be able to price their next update accordingly and be able to offer upgrade prices? If this is the case then I would definitely recommend upgrading now so you don’t get left behind. Heads Up Though People… There is not long left now before the sale ends on the Jan 25th. So jump on that trial version if you have not tried this software, you get 30 days which is definitely enough for evaluation purposes so you can see how cool this suite of Apps really is. I would recommend that you have at least some kind of experience with vector design software in the past as Affinity Designer is professional graphic design software and not for the faint hearted. That said Affinity have some excellent tutorials to get you started, so don’t be intimidated or discouraged when you first open the App, there are plenty of videos out there to help you out and some great samples included too, opening one of those and playing with the tools will get you comfortable with the UI, and remember if you did buy V1 you don’t have to upgrade Affinity are not forcing you and V1 will still be getting OS and security updates so it is your own choice. Also you don’t have to buy a universal license you can just buy the iPad version of an App, just the Mac version or just the PC version. At the end of the day it is up to you. Do not listen to others, don’t be a sheep try it yourself before you decide or pass judgement! Also if you have only just stumbled across this software and you didn’t even know there was a previous Version (v1), then you are in for a treat. Finally just to mention Affinity will be offering a new free bundle of content exclusively for registered V1 customers upgrading to V2 as an extra thank you for your support which will come via email as a voucher code. So this is exciting news. Maybe we will get some brushes, textures, overlays or templates. We will have to wait and see. Although I am sure whatever goodies are provided will be useful and high quality. Oh and hats off to Affinity for extending the sale and allowing me and many others more time during this Christmas period to gather some needed coin..Version: 2.0.3

I don’t get the bad reviews. The app is fantastic!I just decided to go ahead and upgrade from v1 and am finding this version MUCH easier to navigate! I don't know how many of the new tools I’ll end up using, but for me, the streamlined ui justifies the cost on its own. And if OPTIONALLY buying a new version of the software means Affinity can keep developing it, while still not switching to a subscription model, count me in. ❤️.Version: 2.3.1

Great app but v2.0 crashes a lot.As always, this is an excellent drawing software however, v2.0 crashed a lot. Bug fixes are required..Version: 2.0.1

Excellent and affordableAbsolutely fabulous app. After deciding there was no way I would pay adobe’s rip off prices for illustrator, I tried all of the available vector apps and this one beat them all hands down. Really hoping Canva doesn’t not change the pricing or the software too much…. Really is an excellent app 👍.Version: 2.4.1

Love this app but missing my favorite featureWould rate this app a 5 if they wouldn’t of taken away my favorite feature of live scrolling thru fonts and seeing what the word i was typing would look like by just arrowing down on each font. Now u have to actually select each one and then when u go back its back to letter A not even where u left off. Very time consuming when looking for fonts. Other than that everything has worked very good and like the upgrades. PLEASE add the easy scrolling of fonts back.Version: 2.0.4

Brilliant amazing app and softwareI use affinity most days and I still keep finding more useful features. Affinity is well priced and with tutorials and customer service it make all the app/software affordable and one of the best..Version: 2.4

External MonitorThis app is great. I love how it is a one time purchase rather than a subscription, while still having great and detailed features. The only wish I have for it is that it could have the main UI in 16x9 on an external monitor. Great app!!.Version: 2.4.2

Buggy Update on v.2.3.1As much as I love Affinity Designer 2, the latest update has been crashing a lot. Furthermore, the updates aren't very frequent. Edit: Reloaded files from iCloud and crashes stopped..Version: 2.3.1

Making the switch 🥳After vectormator/linearity curve added a subscription model, i was looking for another vector design option for ipad. affinity designer popped up, so i've been trying the 7 day trial and i have been loving it!! 😍 i'm definitely more of an amateur designer, but as an artist i prefer the flexibility of proper vector software over something like canva or adobe express. the slightly less touch-first ui (compared to procreate and linearity) definitely takes some getting used to, but it's a very powerful and flexible app so i really don't mind. definitely recommend!! 😁.Version: 2.4.2

BrilliantAffinity Designer V2 is a massive improvement over V1. There is a learning curve to two if you came from one, and you may find some of the user interface a little jarring. But overall, it’s a massive improvement. Looking forward to seeing how this grows in the coming years..Version: 2.2.0

Brilliant app, just brilliant…Designer has always been good but V2 is just so much better. New improved user interface is much easier to view and use. Many new features too. Who would have thought you could get all this on an iPad!.Version: 2.0.1

Amazing appJust a slight adjustment from Mac app to iPad and you are good to go on the go. I love that I can work on my iPad which I almost always bring with me. Seamless! The whole Affinity suite is priceless! Easily 5 stars..Version: 2.4

There’s a problem with the top bar buttons in Affinity Designer for iPadIn my 2018 iPad Pro 12.9”, the top buttons displayed while editing nodes (to close a path) are extremely hard to tap on (with finger or pencil) as it’s in the same location as the … for the iPadOS multitasking (window management) functionality. Please fix ASAP. Current version: Affinity Designer 2.0.1..Version: 2.0.1

I can’t say no to this…..I’ve learned so many things and tutorials in this editing game,I did see lag if you try to put a word on the same thicker word, but I just wanted to tell you that I love this game 🫶🏾.Version: 2.2.1

I use it everydayAll the features of V1 but better, took a little to get used to but would never go back to V1. Interface is easy to use and manage..Version: 2.0.4

Been using since VER.1I’ve been using Affinity for years and I can’t recommend it enough. Perfect for Vector beginners and pros alike.Version: 2.4

Affinity Designer is awesomeThis is my absolute favorite app, and I’ve been using it for over a year. The only thing that would make this app better would be developing/adding a TRACE tool. And no, there is no app out there that has an easy to use comprehensive good trace feature..Version: 2.4

So far so goodThe more I use it the more I appreciate the work & thoughts behind this app. I don’t even use Affinity Photo & Illustrator anymore because luckily everything that I need to design poster, tshirt, thumbnail, etc, are already here. I don’t know how people would crash the app. I still use my 10.5 ipad pro and everything has been smooth sailing..Version: 2.0.4
