Affinity Photo 2 for iPad for Positive User Reviews

Affinity Photo is amazingHonestly have LOVED this software since i first got it on iPad and for photographers, its a FAR better option than PS. One off payment? That’s a freaking bargain, and the people whining about them asking for a SMALL payment for a software i use daily for yearrrssss that i don’t even have to Update to Version 2, version 1 is still fine so if they don’t want to pay again for the newer features that’s fine. But i think they’re more than worth it and even if they weren’t, Affinity has given us sooooo much for an absolute steal. The use of Apple Pencil whilst editing fine art portraits or doing very close up beauty retouching with frequency separation is amazing, and their process for Frequency Separation is WAAYYY easier than PS..Version: 2.0.2

Better than Photoshop-iPad, but can be improvedI find Affinity Photo-iPad is better than Photoshop-iPad. Easy and practical to use with nearly most of the tools and features are excellent to work with. I think the only downside to me as an illustrator is I find the paint brush tool doesn’t really work well. The desktop version might work better. For example if I purchase a specific brush set which comes in multiple platforms (procreate, affinity, photoshop and clip studio paint), somehow the brushes don’t really work well in affinity. They work well in procreate and photoshop equally, clip studio comes 2nd, and affinity at the very last. Most imported brushes I purchase always seemingly “off” and lose its setting especially texture and pressure. I also hope that in the next update there will be more perspective guide added, like 2 point perspective guide in Procreate. Thanks! :).Version: 2.3.1

Excellent photos editing programExcellent photos editing program with a fragile of cost. I would encourage artists or photographers to give it a go!.Version: 2.0.1

Top of its class for photo editingThe most cost effective photo editing software on the App Store and the Mac App Store V2 brings it to the next level I’ve been a user of the software from the V1 and upgraded to V2 as soon as it was available and with the universal license you get the best deal as it gives you the option to use on any of your devices I.e. Mac/windows/iPadOS.Version: 2.0.4

Will there be iOS 17 support for version 1 of Affinity Photo?I own both version 1 and version 2 of Affinity Photo for iPad, but -refer using version 1. As it stands I am stuck on iOS 16 until an update comes out for version 1 of Affinity Photo. Please let there be an update! Thanks.Version: 2.3.1

Brilliant, edit in 360!This app is incredible when compared to the cost of Adobe. It is possible to edit 360 images in 360! It does nearly everything photoshop does on desktop, on the ipad, for a one off cost. I am blown away, thanks to the developers, please keep up the good work!.Version: 2.1.1

Powerful and the right priceI got my new iPad and went to download v1 and found it missing. That wasn’t the promise when I purchased, but it has been like 7 years, I’m not heartbroken over it, it’s downright inexpensive for what it does. Initial experience. Step one, import raw = crash. Step 2, import same raw, works. So that’s the second unimpressive experience, but that’s not missing capability, that’s just an incoming update. I can verify that Lightroom modern apps on pc have been a crashy mess in the past year, this is not uncommon in my experience. One thing I will point out is that Lightroom recovered to my last editing step when I reopened, while affinity acted like it never heard of me or my image…something for the devs to think about in crash handling. The nondestructive raw editing is the most exciting feature for me. All I really do is cropping and Lightroom-like tasks, and this enables me to accomplish that, on iPad, quickly, while mobile, effectively, for little money, with added bonuses of photoshop capabilities, but without the very very sketchy Adobe subscription practices. Try cancelling an Adobe subscription and you’ll see what I mean, you might even have to pay to cancel…low class, won’t participate in that. Thanks Affinity..Version: 2.0.4

It’s greatI am so impressed with this program. I am sure I’ll never find anything l won’t be able to do in regards to my needs. I would have in preference had the styles from v1. I did use the frequently, wish there was some way to get them. Would recommend this program..Version: 2.0.3

Shockingly good tech supportI had to reinstall this app and had a problem which was resolved in just a few minutes by "Steven S" on their support desk. In this day and age of nonexistent tech support Serif and Steven should be commended on a job well done. As a user of both Affinity Photo for Mac and iPad I have no problem recommending their products..Version: 2.3.0

Early days but it seems quite usefulHave just started but I like what there is. A fairly simple interface considering the options, even if it’s not always that clear what will do what. The experimentation is very rewarding. Also, seems to work just fine on my rather old iPad mini 5, which I think is from 2020. So it isn’t all that vicious when it comes to requirements..Version: 2.4.2

This is my preferred editing appBoth on the iPad and on the desktop..Version: 2.0.4

Opened up my creativityTo be fair, I’ve never spent very much time in Photoshop-like applications on iOS or on PC, so I don’t have any kind of professional baseline. As a hobbyist that likes to have a good amount of control over my photos without having to come to terms with extremely complex and vague interfaces, I’ve had a really good time with Affinity Photo. A large part of my creativity gets sucked out of me when I’m presented with what I imagine a rocket control panel is. The majority of the interactive parts of the interface are presented in a way where I could figure out what they did, and for what I couldn’t figure out, the “help” button was really nice to have. Not everything was that obvious, such as the concept of live filters, or what flow, accumulation, or hardness actually meant, but using the application for a little while definitely helps you learn if you’re stubborn like me and you don’t want to read through a bunch of tutorials online. I also love the brushes I got in the integrated store, though I do wish some of them were a little less obtuse to install, since you can’t install everything through the integrated store. I haven’t had much bad luck when it comes to stability, thankfully. In the several weeks I’ve spent using Photo 2, I’ve had about 4 crashes, which the autosave thankfully saved me from. It was frustrating, but nothing unrecoverable. The UI tends to glitch out if you connect to an external display, or if you use Stage Manager, knobs tend to be oversized and some screen elements disappear completely. This all goes away with a restart, but it does take away from the experience. I’m using this application on an M2 iPad Pro, and I’m able to have tons of layers and effects on my photos at a time. My iPad does heat up during certain situations, such as adjusting colour curves, and certain brushes such as the clone brushes from the Glitch pack are a little laggy when using the hover feature of the Apple Pencil, but I’m honestly still getting over being amazed that software this powerful can even run on a mobile platform. I’m not a professional by any means, but Affinity Photo 2 sure makes me feel like one..Version: 2.2.0

Great on iPadI upgraded from V1 and was not disappointed. It handles all the tasks I need it to with ease. I have experienced a few bugs, but I’m confident that they will be sorted with the next update. I see some complaints about the price and the business model, but I would much rather pay one price, than a subscription..Version: 2.0.4

Some issuesI appreciate Affinity Photo for what it is. I’m glad such a powerful app is a once of purchase and resisting the trend of subscription apps. The only reason I’ve marked it 4 stars instead of 5 is that at times I’ve had some crashes when a few effects are used in tandem. This wouldnt be horrible except for the fact that the app fails to retain progress and Ive lost reasonable amounts of work. This in particularly is incredibly infuriating..Version: 2.0.3

Best option on iPad for substantial photo editingPS replacement as-is, but only real option on iPad if you want a non-subscription based photo editor. To be clear, I do not use any subscription based editors at all. The model is not viable for most users I think personally. And as such Affinity is the best package available..Version: 2.4.2

One of the top editing apps on the market! No words needed. Download and you all set. One of the best apps on the market..Version: 2.4

Awesome Affinity Suit of Apps get the job doneI’m really impressed with the Designer 2, Photo 2 and Publisher 2 products I purchased this week via the March 2024 30% discounted Affinity V2 Universal Licence. I’m only just scratching the surface ATM, yet I’m already achieving impressive results Laser Engraving by exporting to SVG or PNG vector files for Laser burning onto various items with stunning results… The biggest bonus is NO MONTHLY OR YEARLY FEES to use these Affinity V2 products on iPad, Mac and even Windows under the same single licence. It’s just one reasonably priced purchase, unlike most of the competitors these days, some of which don’t even work on the main three platforms… Do the math over 5 years too see the value here… I used a Serif product back in the 90’s which was way ahead of the competition back then in function and price. Recently I read about the full restart and change of focus by Serif for the Affinity range of products in the mid 10’s starting with Publisher, their first ever Mac product. Three brilliant products on three platforms has impressed me. Keep up the great work Serif, hopefully an Affinity Video or Web product is next… Cheers Stan.Version: 2.4

Latest Version FIXEDI bought this app around November 2022 and at first really enjoyed it. However, when I started doing more things on it (more specifically, editing RAW photos from my iPhone) it turned out that it was very unstable and would oftentimes crash when doing the most basic things like adjusting color temperature. I stopped using the app because of the issues and waited for an update. IT FINALLY CAME! The latest version of the app has fixed all of the issues I was having and I can happily say that it continues to be my favorite photo editing app on iPad!!.Version: 2.0.4

Not really friendly for basic photo editing :(I’m a big fan of Affinity softwares. I even purchased all of them just to support the developers, though I only use Affinity Design. While this app is powerful, I find the interface for basic photo editing such as brightness adjustments, curves and color mixing is not really user-friendly. I wish it applied UI like Photomator or Lightroom for this section. Please keep on developing..Version: 2.1.1

My reviewBrilliant in every way. I have dementia and I swear using and working with this daily has an enormous affect of pleasure. I’d give all the stars available in every aspect..Version: 2.4

Doesn’t work on my Windows 11 computer but works like a charm on IPad ProI got Affinity Photo because I wanted to edit my photos with better effects and less destructive processes than was available to me using the free program G.I.M.P.. I like the quality of life updates and the work flow that in some areas is not just comparable to Adobe Photoshop but excels beyond the more limited interface of photoshop. I think that Affinity Photo is very competitive and listens to its user base. I think that Affinity is in some ways better and is going to continue to bring quality updates especially because it is a smaller company with something to prove. I really wish the program would work on my windows 11 computer. I was very happy when the license I bought for windows also allowed me to download and use the program on IPad Pro. I think this is a very quality program and a very conscious and progressive company that I hope continues to support and listen to their users..Version: 2.4.2

Good, if only it would stop crashingI got this on its launch day. It was good at first, but then I started to experience frequent crashes when doing normal things like resizing saving and prospective changes and lighting on my iPad 8th generation. Also, sometimes I just can’t find certain tools, but I know the name of it so all I would like is a search bar so you can search for tools. It would make things a lot quicker if you know what you’re searching for.Version: 2.0.3

Outstanding alternativePowerful and awesomely fully featured at an amazingly affordable price. I really appreciate also the effort Affinity puts into producing video tutorials for teaching and inspiration. A fantastic piece of software!.Version: 2.0.4

Powerful & easyPlenty tools Goodbye Adobe!.Version: 2.0.4

Good app suite. Great new license with supportingLove the new universal license for V2 of the serif affinity apps. Photo still lacks a few features I miss from Adobe, raw batch processing aka lightroom top of my wish list. But a good suite of apps with fair pricing simple not bloatware..Version: 2.0.2

ExcellentI’m no expert but really enjoying this program. Every day I learn something new and with lots of tutorials within Serif and YouTube sky’s the limit. It’s well priced and runs well on a medium priced laptop with no issues..Version: 2.4.1

Great — don't listen to the other reviewsI noticed this app had only 3 stars at honestly, I don't know how. This is a professional grade image editing software, and while it has quite a bit of a learning curve in many regions, that's not necessarily a bad thing. For all of my time using Affinity Photo 1 and 2, I've loved every second of it. All of my best logos and designs have all been made using Affinity Photo, so if you need an alternative to whatever Adobe thinks they at, I highly recommend Affinity Photo, and Affinity's other apps. - PF.Version: 2.2.1

Awesome Application! After latest update, I am no longer able to see “DPI” controls during image resize. It only shows vertical and horizontal measurements; dpi is gone. How do I show that one again? iPad Pro 12.9 ~ iPadOS 17.Version: 2.2.1

Really really good! There’s not much to say except that this is as good as any other app out there including the “industry standards.” And there’s no subscription. Why everyone isn’t using it is a mystery..Version: 2.3.0

WonderfulI feel compelled to write this review as since this is a first release of Version 2, there seem to have been bugs for people which have understandably ruffled feathers. I have an M1 iPad Pro and have had no such issues so far, and adore Affinity software generally- it’s versatility and speed are unsurpassed. To those who are having issues, I have faith that Serif will fix the bugs that may be popping up with people- they have in the past. It’s fairly normal for new software and they do listen and take criticism on board. £9.99 is not expensive considering this is a FULLY FEATURED photo editing app in line with the likes of Photoshop, which incidentally one has to pay for on a monthly basis..Version: 2.0.3

Excellent appIPad ui takes some learning but overall an excellent experience..Version: 2.0.4

This is the most stable & the most complete version of affinity photoIn the last version you made some minor fixes that really really help affinity photo on iPad shine more than ever. I use this app more than 6 or 8 hours per day for more than 3 years; this version is the best photo editor app on the world for iPad..Version: 2.1.1

SUPERBBrilliant software and, for the universal licence and the current 40% discount until 25th January 2023, exceptionally good value for money. At so little cost, all three apps, of the very highest quality, on all three platforms, with no annual fee. Serif software and Apple Store somehow made a proper mess of the registration/activation process but that is being or has now been fixed. Buy this now, while the discount is still available!.Version: 2.0.3

Outstanding AppI use the Affinity apps every day on my Mac and iPad. They are truly fantastic. Powerful and reasonably priced. It literally does 98-99% of what Adobe can do. It’s baffling to me why people would leave anything but glowing reviews. I switched from Adobe and outrageous subscription costs in 2020, and I remember wondering if I was making a mistake, but I have only been happy with Affinity. Kudos to the creators. Thank you for a flipping awesome app!.Version: 2.2.1

Powerful, but too much for my brain!I was really annoyed when I paid for this App, when the purchase wasn’t recognised — making the app unusable — and the Apple Store refused to refund, citing their ‘Terms’, but failing to provide any more information. So, Apple Store 0/10 A day later, the app loaded without difficulty and, ironically, an Affinity Customer Services Rep replied to my email enquiry with apologies — and a host of useful information. Affinity 10/10 The app is incredibly powerful, but as an old geezer, I struggle to get to grips with it. I’m sure the Affinity web site has a host of useful advice, but I’m afraid I’ve stuck with what I know for now. For those with the requisite knowledge (or patience) a novel and powerful image processing app..Version: 2.1.1

The main reason I got an iPadI’ve been using affinity photo since the original version years ago. It is a fantastic photoshop alternative, especially without a subscription plan. I’ve used it on windows tablets, but the interface was always made for a mouse, and not set up for a stylus. I tried a friends iPad, and even though he didn’t have a pencil, editing with fingers alone on the iPad is such a smoother experience on the iPad than on windows. It won me over. Even though I was never an Apple fan by any means, I edit enough to make the switch worth it. Only problem I’ve encountered is the sharpening creates strong black lines and artifacts in the iPad version that never show up in the windows version..Version: 2.1.1

Great appVery powerfull.Version: 2.0.4

Absolutely powerful and intuitiveI love Affinity and now version 2 (with noticeably improved items such as displacement map). I notice some persons giving it low scores because they are comparing the interface to photoshop and saying it is too different; they had gotten used to using Adobe for quite some time. If taken on it’s own, Affinity is actually quite intuitive. It isn’t necessarily fair to compare the two. Just as if someone had gotten used to another interface and switched to Adobe they would find it quite a bit of a learning curve. I see persons taking off stars because they had to pay for v2. For years Affinity v1 has given free updates and changes. Now that they have revamped significantly, it isn’t unreasonable to pay for that (an amount that still works out to less than a third of a year’s subscription of Adobe). Keep in mind that v1 still exists. What I find most impressive is have a fully functional and exceptionally powerful photo editing tool for iPad, not a pared/stripped down version. Great job Affinity!.Version: 2.0.4

Updated features without subscriptionI have upgraded Affinity Photo version 1 to 2 without the subscription or cut down version compared to Adobe. Huge upgrade for iPad uses using iPadOS 16. A lot of editing tools that is much easier to used with less effort compared to version 1 of Photo. I would like to see in future update to have more A.I features like selecting particular object or enhancing photo..Version: 2.0.1

Getting to grips with V2Ok, I’m not a digital artist nor do I heavily process images. However this package for iPad has been useful for rescuing or enhancing photographs that may have just lacked a certain “something”. With V2 purchased today I’m still feeling my way round the new UI but early experiments are good. I think it’s still probably the best package at the best price on the market today..Version: 2.0.1

Resizing is nutsWhen resizing the aspect ratio lock doesn’t work and the sliders are just mad. I feel this new version is just overly complicated to use..Version: 2.0.2

Version 2 is excellent value, well worth buyingI loved V1 features. So much power on iPad at little cost. Version 2 is a complete rework addressing many niggling ui issues from V1 and adding more features. Yes, it still got a few early release niggles but once these are ironed out it will be hard to beat for price/feature/value. When all 3 apps are purchased you get Studio Link working for free which is brilliant. And a universal licence option covering all apps, all platforms, also 40% off. Well done Serif! I read the complainers saying they should get a free update to the new ‘model’. Lol, try that with your next 'outright' vehicle purchase. I'm sure they won’t offer a 40% discount on next years 'new' model..Version: 2.0.1

Image editing as good as desktopI think for the price this is an excellent app for image and photo editing. It even has features from the desktop version that are amazing for a mobile app, like focus and hdr stacking. The only issue I've had is that if you set equirectangular view, then go into the tone mapping workspace, it only adjusts a rectangle within the whole image! Apart from that the important thing to know is you have to go into settings to enable undo and redo buttons! But overall well worth five stars :-).Version: 2.2.1

I don’t understand the low ratings, might be Adobe bot$This app offers everything PS has to offer without the headache of a subscription.Version: 2.1.1

Perfect! The entire affinity V2 suite for iPad is perfect. The pricing is reasonable and there are so many useful features. This is literally the best!.Version: 2.0.3

Superb.I’ve been using this app since it’s release, version 1, on my 3rd generation iPad Pro. No complaints at all. Superb software. Supremely reliable. It’s my go-to photography app..Version: 2.3.1

It REALLY GOODI have looking for a really good cheap photo shop and this one is awesome!!!.Version: 2.0.3

Great but not perfectGreat app. Full featured and great to have on my iPad in addition to my Mac. Does what I need so far. Don’t really have any major complaints. I just hope the app continues to evolve in the right direction..Version: 2.2.1

Superb Photoshop Killer and cheap…A real full featured editor fast and so cheap. 1 payment own for life, stacking panoramas, HDR, RAW editor… and a lovely interface… My go to…..Version: 2.3.1

Great product but it needs one more featureI have been using photoshop for years. For a number of reasons I am no longer happy with adobe. Affinity is an excellent program, superior to Photoshop in a number of features. However a very important feature for me is Auto Selection and the ability for a subject to selected automatically which Affinity does not have. I still purchased this product in the hope that this feature will be included soon. To me it is an invaluable addition to Affinity and given all the wonderful features the program already has I’m surprised that it hasn’t been included. Once this happens then the Affinity program will make adobe photoshop far less attractive..Version: 2.0.2

Better option than Photoshop (You hear that Adobe??)Already loving this as it even allows you to do a one time purchase to keep the software as is. Super convenient. Way more robust than photoshop lol.Version: 2.1.1

FantasticI used version one for many many many years on the iPad,Windows and the Mac Updates often and the program never got stale I was kinda feeling guilty for having the software for so long over the years with the one payment. And was just one payment. Not like many others that you have to pay a monthly subscription and never owning the software. Version 2 , just love it…. Many new options Love the new menu system , Powerful option, and well worth the upgrade..Version: 2.0.1

Everything an Intermediate User Would Want, But App Needs Stability ImprovementsAs the title suggests, this app is everything a intermediate graphic designer would want. You get the most popular features and functionality to create graphic content for social media or any other platform. I do not think Adobe Photoshop is as good as this app in terms of features/ price. Plus, you can get the desktop version alongside the iPad versions. Overall, this app lets you be an truly mobile content creator. However, there are semi-serious stability issues with the app. It crashes a bit too often. Make sure to save your work locally on your iPad and hit CTRL S at crucial moments. It is very easy to lose your work, as there is no proper file versioning system. Moreover, the app crashes sometimes when there is a lot of resource-intensive operations (like filters and brushes). Furthermore, I am not a fan of the selection feature, as it is very unintuitive with how objects should be selected when they are grouped. You end up double tapping a lot of objects, and sometimes it become too annoying. In addition, snapping becomes weird when you are trying to snap object in one group to an object in another group. It would be perfect if this app had snapping capability of FIGMA. Then it would be OP. In summary, buy this app if you know you need it. Just save your work in a regular fashion. Note to developers: keep making the app better. I really want this app to become the best version of itself..Version: 2.1.1

TerrificIf you look through the negative reviews you’ll notice that they are largely from people who don’t know they can still use V1 or who found a bug that has subsequently been addressed by the developer. The developer should have a way to delete these outdated ratings. Affinity offers a much better alternative than the subscription systems. Its products are powerful, easy to learn, and continuously updated at no expense. I’ve been a user since the original version was launched, and have continually been impressed by the company. The ease of interactivity between the three apps is the way apps should be built..Version: 2.3.0

Like I said, I’m inIt’s taken me a long time to decide how I feel about Photo 2 after using the first version. The giant change between the two is that it is now a near-exact replica of the desktop app; they replaced dialog boxes with a UI system that suits the iPad better (it would have been a travesty if they hadn’t), and you still have to think a bit laterally to figure out where to find features. But that’s not new. What held me up for a long time was the Command Controller. That’s the thing that substitutes for the keyboard: command, control, option, shift keys. The desktop version can’t work without them, and neither can this. That means my habit of holding the iPad in one hand and drawing with the other keeps tripping and falling down. It’s most annoying when it _almost_ works, then hits a snag. So I regret the loss of some workarounds that they’ve removed, like the ability to select multiple layers by tapping one then sliding on the others. Constant annoyance: to get to Help, you have to exit the current document, find it on the main menu, then close it and go back to the document. Despite complaints, one huge accolade: this is an iPad app that does almost everything its desktop cousin does, and its cousin is first rate. This is a copy-and-paste of what I just said about Designer 2, since all of it—including, or especially the accolade—apply equally..Version: 2.4

Screw Adobe!Anyway, I’m glad they’re competing with Adobe. My only complaint so far is Affinity’s version of feathering is NOT useful. Shrink & feather are not the same thing but they are in Affinity Photo. For $10 this is fantastic!.Version: 2.2.1

Most recent update saved the dayThank you to the dev team for your updates. App is working exactly as expected and I’m loving it..Version: 2.0.4

Most features in an iOS image manipulation appSerif is the first to introduce the power of their software on mobile and offer an experience that feels mobile-friendly when I need, and desktop-workflow capable when I want. Procreate is great for working with drawing and painting tools but for precision graphic, illustration and image-manipulation work, Affinity Photo gives me what I need but on my iPad. Bitmap work in Photo and vector work in Designer is a beautiful friendship. Publisher on my iPad has been great for making catalogs without switching to my laptop..Version: 2.0.4

M1 Ipad App crashes when selecting "merge down"I’m using Photo to draw my vector graphics; I think the app is fantastic the way i use it for drawing high DPI clip art. I noticed today that i couldn’t merge a layer down to the one below. As soon as i tried to the app would crash freezing the whole interface. Happened on an M1 12.9 in AP2. Thanks for a great app and for fixing this issue. I can’t wait til you create a bitmap trace tool inside of Designer so i can make my vectors in one place. I won’t have to head over to Inkscape. Keep crushing it over there at Serif! I love the Affinity2 suite.Version: 2.0.4

Love the app but can’t use itThis app is great when it works but I can’t open it today - it is just stuck loading license configuration. I’ve tried all sorts of things and sometimes it allows me to open it after one of these ‘fixes’ but then it freezes and after shutting it down it just gets stuck on the loading screen again. Pulling my hair out! Unfortunately this is not an isolated incident which is what has prompted this review. I am trying to enter a competition this morning which I have just found out about but it is the last day for the early bird discount - after which I wont be able to enter at all. Thanks Affinity..Version: 2.3.0
