Mercury Weather for Negative User Reviews

Love the UI, missing some useful dataI really like the simple visualizations and the widgets (lock screen, Home Screen, and watch). The one thing I need to know is the volume of rain by hour. In a place like seattle that matters much more than rain %. Ideally you could include both!.Version: 1.5.4

Radar? Was all set to buy lifetime but.. no radar? That’s a must have..Version: 2.1.15

It's okayYou can't do much unless you front up the $$ and it doesn't show BOM alerts like the current extreme heat we're having in SEQ. The Apple weather app does do this so keep your money in your pocket, I wish I had..Version: 2.1.13

Great interface, missing featuresReally like how everything is presented. Would make this my go to app, but two high things missing. No Doppler radar to see storms. Generalizes locations. I love along the lake in Chicago. Even though I put in the neighborhood I live in, it uses the standard Chicago report from O'Hare, which is regularly 10 degrees hotter. Other apps give temps in my area..Version: 1.9.16

Am I missing something? No access to widgets after subscribing to premium?.Version: 2.1

Featured features require subscriptionAlmost all the app features shown in the previews require the premium subscription. I have zero problems with developers asking for money for their time. I’ve paid for plenty. But promoting an app with features either on screenshots or listed in the description with no mention of the Pro requirement is dishonest. Just use the new Apple weather app, has more detail than this, works in iPad, and no sneaky subscription..Version: 1.1.3

Imitation is the sincerest form of flatteryI wanted to give a small, young indie team a shot, but I ended up disappointed. The app tries really hard to be a new Weatherline (RIP), but it does it poorly: It’s more chaotic and less readable. It doesn’t offer any customization which results in scrolling and scrolling and scrolling - a poor use of screen space. It’s got a very in your face design, which is not going to be everyone’s cup of tea (I’m not a fan), so the lack of themes or any adjustability hurts Mercury a lot. Also, the price. It costs just slightly less than Carrot, but it doesn’t offer any additional data sources. If you’re relying only on WeatherKit, you should price your product accordingly. But really, you should just offer more providers. It definitely takes guts to take on the already good stock weather app and phenomenal Carrot. I respect that. Having said that, I don’t think Mercury will be successful. It’s just too far behind and I don’t think it will ever be able to catch up. As a huge fan of Shark Tank and an *anonymous* AppStore reviewer I can’t help myself: you should take this app behind a barn, shoot it and then burn it. I can see you’re talented devs, but I doubt this weather app is the best use of your talent..Version: 1.2.1

Great on iOS but buggy on WatchOSI subscribed to the app based on a Daring Fireball review. The iOS app is great. I like everything about it. My issue is the the WatchOS implementation is buggy. The complication does not consistently load and the complication picker on the Watch app has a placeholder for the app name. There doesn’t seem to be a way to directly interact with the developer so I am writing a review to see how I can get this resolved..Version: 1.1.4

Premium features aren’t available when subscribedI paid for the premium features (widgets, multiple locations etc), but the features do not come available. I’ve force quit the app and restarted to no avail..Version: 1.9.1

SimpleThis is a nice, simple app with very few features that doesn’t collect your data, and it’s well designed too. I was happy with it until the monthly price hiked up from $2.49 a month to $3.99 a month without announcement. I was going to purchase the lifetime license until I saw that skyrocketed too. If you’re okay with the price, this app is great. I’m sad to say that due to the price increase, I’m going to stop using it..Version: 2.1.9

Customize widgets pleaseHi, can we remove the "Feels like.." in the widget? Or add another widget option that would not have that? It would be soooo nice if you could remove that "feels like ..." and maybe put the font a bit bigger so it's easier to read for 50+ year old people :) Thanks for the great app! Please add more widget options.Version: 1.2.2

Looks nice, but….Not accurate AT ALL for NZ, AU etc. These paid weather apps really need to stop selling in markets where their data is not accurate or available. A lot of the time people are swayed by “reviews” of US based influencers, but there is no mention in the app details that the data is not applicable to many regions..Version: 1.1.6

Needs workI bought this on John Gruber’s recommendation and because I, like many others, miss the dearly departed Weather Line app. This one is ok but still very much a work in progress. The main thing I bought this for was to get a widget on my home screen with a graph showing the weather for the next few days. The widget on this app is clunky, only updates once in a long while, and is frequently blank, showing no temperatures or dates. It’s not cutting it. The app itself is…fine. But I expected more..Version: 1.3.1

Widgets don’t update unless you open the appUseless don’t pay for the subscription this app looks like is still in development. The widgets are behind refreshing weather data. Rainfall and snowfall data not available for all locations. Be careful what you pay for..Version: 2.1.5

Inaccurate weather forecastsI can’t trust this app to plan outside activities in my region. Even current weather is often wrong, it’s a useless app..Version: 2.1.5

Great interface, but…Great interface however these two issues would stop me recommending: doesn’t remember multiple locations after adding & widgets on Home Screen display a blank window..Version: 2.0.1

Simply SparseNo rain forecast no map so can’t select specific location No radar No hourly wind, wind is important to anyone living on a coast Using Apple Weather so I can find any advantage over free native Weather.Version: 1.9.16

Subscription ProblemI was charged for an annual subscription for my iPad even though I had a lifetime subscription for my iPhone. I have cancelled my subscriptions and deleted the app from both devices..Version: 2.1.5

Strange Upgrade PerksFeature no. 2 of the Pro pack is “Remove our slightly annoying banner from your weather overview”? It’s flagrant and also funny, but… idk. Makes me feel weird. Especially when the app uses the same data source as the stock weather app. Also, the comments talk about how beautiful it is, but I find the broken up line graph to be hard to look at. I wish it was a smooth line with the numbers listed at the top of the column or something. Small nitpicks… but we’re comparing a paid app to the free built in weather app (which uses the same exact data) The trip forecast seems like a nice feature, and I’ve even wanted something like this to exist before, but I only find myself wanting that once or twice a year.Version: 2.0.1

Having to force quit app to change locationSeems the app can’t keep pace with where I’m located and shows the wrong place and weather..Version: 2.1

Missing key featuresThe ability for it to intelligently source weather data from different sources is a great idea, but Apple weather data is the only data used for my location by the app. Overall I like mercury, but find myself wanting to change the hourly forecast chart so I can see things like precipitation or wind which are things I can do with a few taps with the apple weather app..Version: 1.9.10

Issues with showing DemoGreat looking app when the widgets work. The widgets are showing demo and sometimes not loading ( they appear to not realized the full app is unlocked ) I’m a premium subscriber. A bit disappointing..Version: 1.1.3

Looks great; kinda buggyI like the design and limited features. The weather items in the app are mostly what I use in my other weather app. Overall opinion: lots of attention to detail in the design; less in the functioning of the app. I'm using v1.1.4. Main issues: It's slow to update weather in the app and in widgets/complications. App doesn't use background app refresh (not showing in my list). App is now forgetting that I have a subscription and switched all my widgets to demo mode; had to open the app settings to verify subscription; then widgets switched back. Watch app's name appears as a variable/key instead of app name in the complications lists (never seen that before). I had to reinstall the watch app for the complications to work. Also, my subscription shows as "Clear" instead of "Mercury"; who is Clear? I'd totally use this app if the polish applied to the design was applied to how it functions..Version: 1.1.4

Looks nice but less functionalThe visuals here are good and the data presentation. But why they make it impossible to easily switch between cities? You have to be in a sort of pop up pane to see another city rather than the regular view. We should be able to swipe between cities we have saved in the main view like many other weather apps.Version: 1.1.4

Great app but too expensive.I really love the app but I’m giving it 3 stars for the opportunistic price. If it was £9.99 then it’d still be a bit pricey (it’s a weather app - It’s low in the app food chain for me, sorry) but I could go with it. But it’s not, it’s £9.99 A YEAR. Suddenly that’s too much. “But that allows us to keep developing it” is the usual siren of the developer when called out on the nefarious subscription trend, which we all know relies heavily on people forgetting to, or being too lazy to turn the sub option off. But, what improvements each year are going to be worth £9.99 in a weather app? Doesn’t it do everything so well already? What else does it need? Your first tenner gets you the app - Bit rich, but OK. Maybe the next gets you some tweaks, and perhaps a bit of a visual redesign now and again - That sounds like poor value to me. Money for old rope. 5 years in and you’ve done £50 on a weather app; let that sink in. It’s not changing the weather (obviously) - It’s just using an existing weather service to present you the weather prediction in a pleasing way. In fact, IIRC, it uses Apple weather for its info, which is…..free. I don’t blame the dev jumping on the subscription bandwagon - If you can make a load of money why not? I’m just not up for being part of it. So I’m sticking with the free version of this app. If it were £10 one time or £2 a year or something I’d not be the salty bloke in the reviews manging on about the price, but it’s not, so I am. I actually wanna pay the dev for this app because I use it, but certainly not £10 every year. If it had one of those one time donate “buy me a coffee” things, I’d send a fiver with no qualms - It’s worth it. Great app, great interface, nice and clear, easy to use, thoughtfully laid out with a cool wavy graph style that makes it easy to read quickly, but just overpriced at a tenner a year in a market deluged in weather apps, where at least 2 decent ones (Apple’s own and BBC Weather) will cost you zero..Version: 2.1.5

UselessPlease put some scales on the charts: without them they are pretty meaningless..Version: 1.7.8

So soThe look is amazing, seems straightforward to use. I’m not seeing how it is worth spending money on it as it isn’t as thorough as apple weather. There is no radar either 👎🏻. Hopefully this will be a feature coming soon, because as of now I’d like to delete the app and try and get my money back..Version: 1.9.16
