Universalis for Positive User Reviews

One of my favorite apps for Lectio DivinaIt’s easy to use and intuitive. Just one request, would it be possible to incorporate the mass readings (First Reading and Second Reading) to Lectio Divina as well? I end up switching between the “Lectio Divina” tab and “Mass Readings” tab. Or maybe an “Expanded Lectio Divina” tab so people have an option between just the Gospel or Gospel plus Mass Readings when doing Lectio Divina. Thanks!.Version: 3.55

Great value in many waysOne of the best apps I’ve come across: well designed, super easy to use and very comprehensive. Saves having the Brevery at hand or a missal in church. Great value at only one reasonable charge. Wouldn’t be without it..Version: 3.110

Readings and Prayers always to handI use this app everyday to say my morning prayers and to follow the readings of the Holy Mass. It is much easier than carrying my heavy missal around with me and since I always take my mobile with me wherever I go, I’m never without prayers and readings of the day..Version: 3.110

Universalis provides a superior English breviaryThose who regret the American adoption of colloquial language in prayer will delight that there is now an inexpensive alternative online. Universalis provides a reverent usage of English for those who demand intelligence gent worship and prayer. All of this is provided not in a 4-volume bookset, but at a nominal cost. Universalis is an ongoing service that provides ongoing current information for subscribers. I, for one, am deeply grateful to our English brethren for this distinctive alternative!.Version: 3.96

Many ThanksThank you for this wonderful app. It is so very easy to use. Truly appreciate you for providing easy mobile access to the Divine Office, Daily and Sunday Mass readings and the many prayers . Was very helpful during my Cancer treatments, now my husband and I use it every time. Joan and Earl Pitre, Third Order OCDS..Version: 3.90

This app continues to impress me every dayI started using Universalis a few years ago ago for Morning Prayer. I love the speakers’s tone and reading speed. Once iOS 14 allowed developers to use widgets, this app immediately creates beautiful widgets that are color-coded based on the liturgical calendar. Additionally, I just discovered that they have a CarPlay app for easy access to prayers in the car. This app and it’s developed deserve more credit!.Version: 3.72

Good value, easy to useI’ve used the Universalis app for about four years. For travel, it’s easier than carrying the breviary, but the best thing is that all the Liturgy of the Hours and readings for Mass are easy to access. I also appreciate “About Today,” with its sketches of the saints of the day. Heavy on British ones, but after all, I believe this app originated in the UK. I can also check the calendar to verify which week of the psalter we’re in when it’s my turn to plan our convent liturgies. Well worth the cost, roughly a dollar US per month. Update, two years later. Still like to his app for all the reasons cited above. Still a good value..Version: 3.108

UnivisalisI love to take my Kindle to daily Mass which enables me to follow the reading and responses at the mass also to interchange if it is a local feast. I also like the Hours with morning prayers although I don’t use them throughout the day. It will be useful when the readings change next advent, I won’t have to replace my daily missal..Version: 3.112

Love this AppI use it frequently and really appreciate it- simple and intuitive- no bugs or issues- a blessing and a help! Thank you very much!.Version: 3.35

Mass readingsGreat reading guide to be able to follow the Priest in celebration of the Mass. Good source to get to know Saints of the day🙏.Version: 3.90

Love itLove it.Version: 3.108

GreetingsOnly by the Devine Grace of God I was saved by this site of Devine prayer. It’s only Devine Grace will fill your heart with the right food and water for your salvation home..Version: 3.116

Really good, just one problemI've been using the Catholic calendar app for a long time, but I've decided to get the Universalis app to get the mass readings and instructions. I'm not going to Mass at the moment for several reasons, but I have been before, and as I'm blind, I always found it hard to know when to stand, sit or kneel. I'm glad that it includes the calendar, and the audio prayers are great too. The only problem is sometimes when I try to change the hymn in the daily prayers, or the reading in the mass readings the app crashes. Please fix this..Version: 3.57

Daily peaceCouldn’t start and end my day without it. Absolute must for anyone seeking peace every day of the year.Version: 3.110

Fresh each dayNot only do we get the scripture readings of the day but often we are introduced to the inspirational lives of saints new to us. Add to that the commentaries and the comments from Martin - each day promises a spiritual surprise..Version: 3.110

OutstandingI’ve used this app extensively, and it’s outstanding in all aspects; presentation, content, functionality, design. I highly recommend it..Version: 3.37

Love UniversalisI have used Universalis for many years, and love it. The format is very easy to use. The extra features (e.g. the books included, the optional meditations, and more) are helpful. I also really like the occasional emails I get with updates and news and such. I love it!.Version: 3.93

ExcellentA lot of content, worth every penny. No crashed, text sizing and position sensing work well..Version: 0

Very useful appWorth the money as used every day. Handy if traveling too as Mass can display in English & eg French. The only niggle is that sometimes the readings can be worded slightly differently to the lectionary/breviary. But that’s quite rare..Version: 3.110

My daily companionUniversalis has been my daily companion for years. There have been times when I have drifted away but it always is there - in patiently awaiting my rediscovery. It is a place of peace in a busy, chaotic and sometimes frightening day. With it I can quietly get close to God knowing that millions of other people around the world are offering the same prayers to Our Lord at the same time. It brings me peace and closeness to my Creator..Version: 3.91

UniversalisThis app has enabled me to pray morning and evening prayer, keep up to date about the saints and do Lectio on a regular basis. I would not have managed that in book form it’s too complicated. Thank you thank you Catherine Mangham.Version: 3.92

Wonderful application ... presentation needs workThis application is great, and really I would give it 5 stars if not for the terrible implementation of the page-turning animation. Please, your application needs to look like it belongs on an iPad. Look at the animations in Calendar and iBooks. It actually looks like you are turning a page there, and not some pseudo-3D hinge effect. That said, the application makes praying the Liturgy of the Hours very simple. No need to fumble with a breviary, the liturgical calendar is at your fingertips, as is a great amount of information concerning the saints. Likewise, the new English translation of the order of Mass is very helpful. Overall, a good app ... just fix that page turning and it would be beautiful..Version: 1.68

Start your day enlivened by the word of GodThis app is quickly becoming a necessity for those in the Catholic Church who follow daily prayer of the church For those who find it difficult to navigate their way around the daily office it is a Godsend Right before you all in one place is the text flowing without need for several ribbons turning back and forth This is the same for mass with the east choice of the Saint or the Ferris or other solemnity available in one touch of a button This app is highly recommended for clergy religious and laity alike!.Version: 3.91

Excellent for daily prayerAll readings for Mass and the prayer of the church easily accessible. Helpful commentaries on the Mass readings and useful summary of the life of the Saint of the day I recommend to all the families who join our catechetical programmes.Version: 3.108

You have helped me to stay faithful to JesusThank you so much for creating this app and making it so easy to stay true to the Prayer of the Church. God bless you all Mike W Yorkshire U.K..Version: 3.108

An Old FriendI use this app multiple times a day, it is quickly becoming the go to reference for those who say the Divine Office. The app is reliable, and does not need an internet connection. Better than the web page because you get the more beautiful psalms. Very responsive support..Version: 3.90

The bestI love Universalis… you just have to open the app and you are on the right page … no stress … the beauty of praying with others. (= the universal Cchurch !).Version: 3.115

A great aid to prayerI originally got this to follow pretty well every word at mass and now regularly use the daily office as well. I think that it is indispensable and I thoroughly recommend it..Version: 3.110

Superb app ...In every respect. But it doesn’t look like the new feature regarding the Today screen showing the Saint of the day works..Version: 2.11

Fantastic appIt’s has become part of my life..Version: 3.92

Such a great app!In addition to the Liturgy of the Hours with its many options for saints, feasts, optional prayers etc., just a great prayer companion and source of information. So many extras - don’t go a day without using several times. Easy to navigate, beautiful artwork, excellent source for daily prayer..Version: 3.108

Quality applicationThis is an unpretentious and comprehensive application which assists with daily devotional prayer. It provides a clear guide to the liturgical readings and it even helps in my duties as sacristan in my parish. As well as that it offers access to some excellent books from some of the greatest Catholic writers and theologians. This app truly is the work of someone with a great devotion to Our Lord and his Church on earth. I’ve worked in software development for many years and Universalis really does pass muster for accuracy along with simplicity of design. Can’t praise it highly enough..Version: 3.92

Great accessibility and variety of choiceI have been using Universalis for over 10 years and find it to be a user friendly and liturgically observant app. I had used it on mid-Mediterranean ships and in the air before claiming any i-cloud! The accessible info on any date, past and future, is amazing. Five stars and then some. Benedicamus Dominum!.Version: 3.105

Divine OfficeExcellent, being able to read the Divine Office in large print is a joy and the having the Office spoken when I can’t get down to the Choir is a joy..Version: 3.109

StructureGives my day a structure for prayer , at the beginning and end of the day . Reading about a particular saint or feast also enriches and encourages . Helpful too with the rosary and it’s illustrations for each mystery . All in all feels like carrying around my mobile chapel I can enter whoever I wish . Probably the most helpful resource for my interior life . Thank you again ..Version: 3.90

Very good appI have used this app for some years and it has been so fulfilling by keeping me right with the celebrations of the Catholic Church..Version: 3.95

Gratitude in Rural NSW, AustraliaBecause we live outside a rural town in the fertile NW Plains, I need to travel a fair amount for various reasons. Just to know I’ve got access to the daily readings on my phone is incredibly re-assuring, not to mention I can dip in to the Office. A special thanks too for the reflections on the Word. They are wonderful. May the Lord continue to bless you. Sincerely Nora Carrigan.Version: 3.110

Almost perfectI love this app. It has almost everything I can think of to make it possible to follow Mass, to pray, to read.... The things I would love to have are: access to the continued readings when using the proper readings of the saint of the day or the optional readings for a common Mass (this is what is done where I go to Mass) also to have drop down menus to choose from a selection of proper readings instead of having to scroll through all the options (e.g. all the possible readings for Our Lady on Saturday) to get to the ones chosen by the priest, and to be able to select from votive Masses (e.g. votive of the Eucharist is said a lot on Thursdays where I go to Mass). I love reading about all those venerable English martyrs... great examples for us today. Thanks, Universalis!.Version: 2.92

UniversalisUniversalis has helped me in my prayer life. I can pray the hours, meditate on the readings and reflect on the Saints of the day. It is good to have all in one place on my iPhone and iPad. I also use the spoken office when I am travelling in the car. I find it so helpful..Version: 3.110

The developers are very responsiveThe app is always getting improvements and I really appreciate that. One more request: when the prayers are being read, have the Watch app open the now playing app so that the volume etc. can be controlled. Right now the Watch app opens Universalis to the scripture readings of the day which is not at all useful since you are praying the hours..Version: 3.81

Be lost without Universalis!I’m a deacon and I use this app every day, it is vital for my own faith journey and I can’t recommend it highly enough!! Tony.Version: 3.110

Keep goingThe app helps me in my ministry to keep going with my prayers even when I fell like not doing it. God bless..Version: 3.110

ExcellentA little pricey but well worth the $30 it costs. To be able to access the entire Divine Office from your iPhone without internet access is fantastic. I now use it over the paper version because I can carry it with me wherever I go and also have the whole thing presented sequentially without having to flip from one part of a book to another. Thank you!.Version: 1.50

A great app only gets betterThe Divine Office on iPhone & iPad gets better. Nothing more convenient than this app short of carrying the full 3 volume edition by Collins around daily. Except this goes one further and the new version allows one to pray the office in Latin (which is a welcome addition for those of us who wish to do so). One final addition would be good is that if some psalm tones could be added as well. But this is a minor thing amidst an app that does so much..Version: 1.93

A good thingI use Universalis as a substitute for the breviary it has a number of benefits It’s always accurate It has the extra readings in the morning prayer It a good substitute if a book is missing during a public celebration I requested some time ago that it should include the week that we are in: eg week 24 as that makes it easy to work out what psalm week we are in Be good to see that Cheers F.Version: 3.90

IndispensableUniversalis has been a daily part of my prayer life for a long time now. It is indispensable. Having the Divine Office and many other resources in one app on my iPad is well worth the small subscription cost. Reading Compline before bed helps me get a good night’s sleep, too..Version: 3.91

Does what it says and does it well.... However....$33 is insane for this app! I think this is one of the most expensive app on iTunes..Version: 0

QualificationShould be 4.7 starts. Perfection would be if on opening an Hour it went to its first page, so I don’t have to wind back to find it..Version: 3.90

UniversalisI really appreciate this app! I am able to read the Lectio Divina and the reading daily before mass. It helps me be prepared for the reading and I am more attentive to the homily. I really love the spiritual readings! They are timeless and beautiful. The office of the readings is very convenient even if I am unable to read them all in one day..Version: 3.108

What a BlessingMy husband & I absolutely love to have these readings each morning. It is quite educational for me, a new convert to the Catholic Church. We have hours of enlightening discussions which is founded in the word of God. It’s Intricacy of Providence weaving countless threads into a eternal tapestry of glory. Thank you for these grace filled moments from God. Love the App..Version: 3.97

Much better than iBreviaryUnlike early editions from years ago, all the antiphons and prayers seem to be exactly according to the official breviary. This app has completely downloaded all the prayers and options, so you don’t need a regular Wi-Fi connection to pray the office. My only annoyance is that the drop-down menu to switch between hours (e.g. from vespers to compline) is in the same place as the iOS switch windows dropdown, which makes it easy to hit the wrong button. That’s rather annoying, but my only complaint..Version: 3.110

One disappointmentI love using Universalis , however I really cannot use the exclusive language which occurs at times in the final prayers of intercession. Please include sisters with brothers, and daughters with sons..Version: 3.109

WonderfulIt is so wonderful to have a complete Sunday and Weekday Missal…and so much more…readily available on a Smartphone. No matter where I am in the world, I can read the Mass to myself, or follow it in churches in countries where I don’t speak the language. I cannot think how I would manage without it. It is wonderful and such good value for money..Version: 3.91

UniversalisI do enjoy this app so much and I use it everyday and have done for the last ten years. Keep up the good work. Monica.Version: 3.91

The best !Easy to use and an everyday companion.Version: 3.95

Excellent!I use this app everyday to follow along at Holy Mass (Mass of St. Paul VI). The additional features, e.g. saints of the day, spiritual reading, and scriptural commentary, are wonderful to keep me attentive during mental prayer. While I do not regularly pray the Divine Office, it is a blessing to have it available within the same app. The layout of the entire app is beautiful and conducive to prayer. While there is little I can suggest to make this app even more useful, I would say that the widgets could use a facelift, and readings and prayers for the Mass in the Extraordinary Form (Mass of St. John XXIII) would be a much appreciated addition. All in all, I’m grateful I purchased this app over ten years ago!.Version: 3.109

Tremendous value! This app is a tremendous value. It pulls together all the readings necessary to properly pray the Liturgy of the Hours. I started with a book many years ago. I figured out the order of things, but this app makes it so much easier, especially when alerting you that an irregular feast will be celebrated today..Version: 3.108

IndispensableThis is THE app for active Catholics. I use the books too, but the app is always at hand. One has to be aware of potential text differences (due to copyright restrictions) if praying in a group, but these are gradually disappearing with each update. This app is now so widely used, I have several times heard the breviary referred to as “Universalis”. 😂.Version: 3.71

Daily helpThis is so helpful. Whether traveling, rushed mornings or simply feeling inept, this tool makes the daily hours too easy to not do. And the images for the rosary are so beautiful I even open them to contemplate during group rosaries. Thank you for this positive use of technology!.Version: 3.91

Wonderful AppI have been using Universalis for 8 years for morning and evening prayer. Previously I used the 4 volume Liturgy of the Hours. Universalis makes everything so much easier! Whether you’ve been praying the office for years or are totally new to it, this is the way to go..Version: 3.110

Easy to useA great easy way to pray the Divine Office. The psalms don't always match up with the print version of the Breviary and some texts vary, so it is not suitable for community prayer, but it is great for personal use. The introduction of the daily missal, which integrates the common and proper parts of the Mass including the lectionary into a single booklet that you can just read from start to finish is a great edition and convenient tool for a priest on the move..Version: 1.76

I CAN’T BELIEVE ONE WOULD GIVE LESS 5I can’t believe one would give it less that 5 stars. When I give reviews I make sure that I’m being very honest because I do not want to deceive others and prevent them from getting the true benefits of the product. I’ve used this for over 10 years and shared it with priests. We used it in Jerusalem, Corinth, etc where there’s no internet. The freebie version requires internet. This one, you pay once and you can use anytime. And share it with your spouse or family if you have family sharing cell phones. I recommend it to my prayer community. It’s awesome and useful..Version: 3.30

Excellent resourceAs a practicing Catholic and Religious Education teacher this app is an excellent resource. Well worth the cost..Version: 3.102

Love it, but...Love this app and use it almost daily. My only complaint is that when I attempt to get it to play to audio recording of morning prayer in the Liturgy of the Hours, it kicks me out of the app. Which is disappointing. Also can the other Hours, such as Evening Prayer get an audio option? I think that would be great!.Version: 2.58

Love this app. Makes praying the Liturgy doableThis app makes praying the Liturgy of the Hours very easy. I am very pleased with this app. I’ve been using it for for a few years now. I have the 4 book set and also Christian prayer but I find myself using the app over the books (and I love books!). I like that I can easily copy verses that move me so I can sen them to my loved ones. I really like the ability to see the Readings for the Mass each day and also the anniversary cards are a great bonus feature..Version: 3.96

What a joy to useThis has been a game changer for me in terms of opening up the Liturgy of the Hours to me as a lay person. I tried to learn how to do it with all the ribbons in a print version…but I just didn’t have enough brain space available to pull it off. Universalis has made it all easy so I can focus on the actual prayer. It’s such a relief. Also, I just paid once and I’m always up to date. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase..Version: 3.102

Universalis - indispensable for practising CatholicsOperates without the need for internet connection, the app gives the U.K. standard translations for Mass, the Office, plus useful information on the Saints and historical context. I find the occasional 'moralising' a little annoying, but that’s me - prefer to operate my own conscience..Version: 3.108

UniversalisWith my Liturgy of the Hours prayer book this Universalis is a helpful guide to me when there are special feast days and just to follow along with the book. I don’t know what I would do without it..Version: 3.90

Absolutely wonderfulI have waited a long time for an application like this in English and then to get one so perfectly designed. it includes daily readings as well as the hours, what more could you want..Version: 0

MaryEvery day I read through: the daily Mass readings, the happenings of the day and Spiritual reading. I then delve into other parts depending on my time available. My knowledge of the saints and the Doctors of the church has greatly grown and as a result my walk with Our Lord and personal relationship is growing deeper. Understanding Jesus’s messages of how to love our neighbours is so much clearer..Version: 3.110

Membership not workingI have already purchased lifetime membership 4 years ago with you, but you have blocked my phone saying I need to purchase it again is this correct . Why would this happen . Confused.Version: 3.69

Excellent and clean appIf you are looking for an app for the Mass and the divine office, there is nothing better. They do an excellent job of finding the particular calendars of each region and bishops conference so it is rarely if ever wrong. The presentation is clean and simple, not confusing at all..Version: 3.115

Extremely helpfulThe ordinary printed Breviary is expensive. It needs to be carried around with you always. It means turning many pages and much searching at times. Whereas the digital Breviary can be downloaded onto your iPhone. It is set to always change when necessary. You can go forwards or backwards with ease. You can set it to the various different dioceses and countries. You can also set the most readable font size. There are so many possibilities…..and all for a reasonable small price..Version: 3.91

Amazing during the pandemicThank you for making this app. It is so helpful as I try to pray and live a liturgical life during these times when churches are still closed here in Ontario, Canada. God bless you..Version: 3.42

Was once faithful to the Magisterium but no longerIn today’s commentary on the Gospel, I came across this little gem: “To fail to appreciate the other great religions of the world is an act not of homage to the Christian God but of failure to appreciate the divine omniscience and omnipotence.” There is only one true religion in the world and all others are in opposition to it. If we allow them even one foothold in the battle that Christ has called us to engage in, then we have lost the entire war and will be responsible for the loss of countless millions of souls. I for one have decided that Universalis no longer teaches orthodoxy and will therefore go elsewhere for my Divine Office..Version: 3.49

A very portable BreviaryAs an Oblate, I use ‘Benedictine Daily Prayer: a Short Breviary’ which whilst compact, is still some 1200 pages and requires a large pocket or bag. This App is fabulous for praying the Offices on the move, and at work. In addition, I particularly value the Lectio Divina. For me, it doesn’t replace my Breviary, but highly recommended for when one’s daily work prevents having it. I pray that God will bless you richly as you encounter Him through the Offices. Ora et Labora. Pax!.Version: 3.34

GratefulI’m 78 now & in my prayer life through the day this is very helpful God Bless Robyn.Version: 3.108

Excellent value for daily dedicated prayer routine thank youExcellent value, thank you to the developers, for my daily dedicated prayer routine. Excellent for Catholics and any person looking to develop a good valued prayer life and spiritual life, routine around their busy daily work life or just on my day off at home. I was in the seminary for a while. I find I am still able to continue with a regular prayer routine around my day. Having the hours simultaneously on the audio tracks is an excellent tool for me. The audio tracks are so excellent, as I am able to regularly listen to the tracks playing on my way to work. Or even quick quiet moments on my work breaks. Very Helpful for Relaxing and calming down in a short meditational moment, on my morning commute to work. Reflecting the last psalm phrases or even re- listen to those words, in those often moments that I’m tempted to become annoyed or frustrated with challenges like traffic jams, lights and railway crossing hold ups. I find I can use these moments to ponder or even re listen to, and see it as a moment for prayer and focus on the lord, time to practice my patience, and trust in Jesus, as I am going about my daily challenges. I can even listen to the angelus or rosaries or mass readings of the day. Has changed my life and I’m more focused on the Lord and Mary’s requests for regular prayers, from her appearances at Medjugorje..Version: 3.116

I love the “comprehensiveness” of UniversalisThis is, hands down, my favorite app - all the way to the monthly e-mails I get letting me know of any updates and changes. Thank you to all who obviously work so hard to make this happen and that you make the readings so pleasant to listen to. Lately I’ve been praying the Liturgy of the Hours with Universalis rather than with the “American” version I’ve used for years and it’s SO beautiful! Thank you all again! (P.S. This is probably one of maybe three times I’ve ever given a five-star rating for any app ever!) May God bless you as you spread the light of Christ- Mary M.Version: 3.115

Really love and value this appAll the daily liturgy and Divine Office at your fingertips. Easy to use. Choice of languages extremely useful. Very good value for money..Version: 3.110

Useful and neededI have used Universalis services for a number of years on different formats and I am glad that the company has made them available for the iPhone/iTouch platform. This is a program for those who need it and we will gratefully pay what is demanded. Just for the record, the printed format expands through a set of five books, $40 each in most editorials. You calculate. I have used it for the past two weeks and I am not disappointed. I had no crashes even though I found browsing through long text a bit slow. Today I downloaded a new update that seems to address this and other minor glitches that are typical of v. 1.00. I haven't tested yet. I respect the individuals who wrote some of the negative (no technical) reviews, but not their opinions. Because they write from the ignorance of someone who does not know what this program does for those of us who need it. There's no place in iTunes' reviews for such misleading rigidity. Kudos for Universalis. I look forward for future updates and revisions..Version: 0

Ever evolving essential Catholic appThis app is a fundamental part of my life. The Divine Office (now with optional audio on subscription) no longer needs three big fat books, and multiple bookmarks, checking for local celebrations, remembering which week it is. “About today” gives information about saints of the day, including the less well known, but not necessarily less worthy. (I suspect that many of us couldn’t actually explain the roll-calls in the First Eucharistic Prayer!) Recent updates are including the variations of religious orders - anyone who has found themselves perplexed on a retreat with Carmelites etc, will appreciate this feature. I originally paid £9.99 for Universalis, which saved the expense of acquiring new Missals (Sunday and Weekday) when the clunky new translations came into use. At first, there were a few disapproving looks when I followed Mass on my iPhone in church, being someone who finds the written word holds my focus more strongly, but now wise worshippers are adopting Universalis widely. Even if a pew Sunday Missal is available, it still has small print size, and lacks flexibility across dioceses and countries..Version: 3.02

Transformed my prayer lifeI always wanted to engage morning and evening prayer using the catholic liturgical calendar and liturgy of the hours. I had some success, but felt there should be a better way. The Universalis app is almost too good to be true. First of all, the app is world-class and offers a beautiful, super intuitive user interface. Furthermore, it meets the challenge to create a Breviary that is accurate, comprehensive and provides customization for each person or group to make their own decisions within the structure of the Liturgy of the Hours. My time in prayer has exploded from perhaps 15 minutes per day (on most days) to about an hour a day because of this app…and I never miss a day. It has inspired me so much that I have goals for growing my time in prayer each day further. Thank you for this life-giving app!.Version: 3.94

Beautiful, easy-to-use appUniversalis is bar none the best app in which to pray the Liturgy of the Hours. It is beautifully customizable- font size, background color, and choice of language, or even a parallel language (a great way to learn your prayers in Latin, French, and others). The display is gorgeous; the interface is a graceful delight to use. I appreciate too the option of reading from the Jérusalem Bible. There are options also to have the prayers read aloud, and Compline ends the day with beautiful chant, if you wish. I.Version: 3.91

ThanksThanks.Version: 3.71

Great app to keep up with daily readings.Like the app, and I haven't used it much since I get daily emails. But one thing I find annoying is the inability to open the settings page with any sort of ease and not being able to scroll between pages, because the page flip just doesn't cut it, feels too unnatural..Version: 2.10

Universalis additionsI use your app every day, it brings a convenience to my interior life which gives me no excuse! I love the longer readings at the end of the readings at mass section, and the Spiritual readings is a good addition. I realise you could go on and on expanding but what about a Benediction section and one for Common Prayers?.Version: 3.108

Essential part of the practice of my faithAs a Catholic, and more specifically as a lector, I find Universalis to be an essential part of my daily practice of the faith. From the About Today section through the Litany of the Hours to the daily readings at Mass, Universalis is the basis of my prayer life..Version: 3.102

Divine OfficeUniversalis has for a long time been one of the best Catholic apps for the iPhone. Having the Divine Office on a device, all totally available offline, is so useful and helps me keep in touch with my daily prayers. The app is regularly updated with new features, some chargeable (you don’t have to subscribe, it doesn’t impede usage at all) some not. Overall a mainstay app on my iPhone home screen, and will be for years to come I hope..Version: 3.00

Lectio Divina, Mass Readings, Compline…This has been the best app I’ve ever used for my prayer life. I’ve tried Hallow, but this app is much better to my liking. I also use it for mass readings during the week because misalletes usually don’t contain the full reading during the week day. The only issue I have is that I tried canceling the Mass Readings app that is also distributed by Universalis. Unfortunately they won’t let me cancel the Mass Readings app without also cancelling the Mass Readings function on my Universalis app. Now I’m getting charged for both apps. Hopefully somebody form customer service can contact me to help me get this resolved..Version: 3.96

Essential Catholic Prayer ResourceA brilliant resource - the whole of the Divine Office, the Sunday Missal and Weekday Missal, the Liturgical Calendar and so much more organised into a most accessible form. To be carried with you wherever you are, and prayed whenever you get the opportunity. A real blessing..Version: 3.91

God bless you, Universalis!! 😇I had been using the Divine Office and now deciding their Hymns to be like a cookie cutter…same authors/music and other generic qualities that I’ve noticed over time. Now I’ve paid for Universalis, and never happier I be now!! It’s more than worth the price. These folks have gone the extra mile with ease of operation, as well as the marvelous user friendly options. The best part…I don’t need to activate the web to use this. Simply FANTASTIC!! I wish to thank ALL the folks who’ve made this app possible for all of us.💫 THANK YOU!!!.Version: 3.100

ReviewIt has everything I need and much much more. I really appreciate the commentaries on the readings. Who is writing them? Well done and that you for this app..Version: 3.110

UniversalisPerfect, I love it, thanks.Version: 3.115

Matthew NewmanWonderful faith enhancing would love the whole Bible to be incorporated even with extra cost.Version: 3.108

Love itTotally reliable and easy to use. Love the reflections too. Wonderful to have ease of access to the daily readings and follow them in mass too..Version: 3.91

MrIt’s very useful for me.Version: 3.112

A happy customerExcellent application well done!!! Just one problem I am experiencing after the last update the calendar is completely empty, please help as at is a pain to work out the date on an empty sheet and also missing the feasts and saints memorials. Please hurry!!!.Version: 1.84

The absolutely best app!I’ve been using Universalis for years. I love it and it keeps getting better. I use it every day. In recent years my husband has developed dementia. The spoken version adds a whole new dimension for us. We now pray spoken morning prayer together and he uses it to pray the Rosary most days. I couldn’t be without it..Version: 3.38

UniversalisThis web site a wonderful resource with a great depth of interest information and inspiring texts. It is easy to use..Version: 3.108

Thank youThis app is just what I needed. A voice that is clear and pleasant to listen to..Version: 3.82

The best app I haveThe best app I have on my phone, really enjoy the Marian hymns for the compline too..Version: 2.57

Great app!!I use it all the time. All that's missing would be the responsorial psalm for the mass and the antiphon for each of the prayer psalms in the divine office and it would be set..Version: 0

Almost perfectI have tried several missal apps and finally the translation is word for word even the psalms in this app but it really depends where you live. I live in the Caribbean. However, the negative is that the font size is way too small and there is no ability to change the size..Version: 2.10

Useful ResourceThank you for this spiritual online resource which is useful and easily available to me whenever I need it either at Mass or anytime. I wonder if it is available offline too - just in case a network is unavailable. God bless you..Version: 3.96

OutstandingThis is an exceptionally good app. Everything seems to have been thought of and instead of just rattling something out, care and attention has been given to its creation. I have a daily missal but it weights a ton whereas this missal hides away in my iPhone. Strongly recommend..Version: 3.102

HymnsThe site is most useful but the selection of hymns is poor. During seasons such as Lent and Advent the same hymns are used day after day. Some are long and use archaic language. Since I pray the Office of Readings and Morning Prayer one after the other - as I suppose other people also do - the same hymn is used for both hours. There is a very rich hymnody in the English language, both older and newer, so I believe that the choice of hymns should reflect that tradition. Thank you..Version: 3.108

Recommend to allUse every day and so easy. Could not go back to a book but why is there such a poverty of hymns. Lent and Advent especially I am fed up with the same hymns day after day and the only option is the same in Latin! I am often using it in community with others who have the breviary and too often the hymns are not the same even when an alternative is given it is not the one in the book. Would give it a 5 * if the hymns were better. Sometimes for feast days and memorials, it is the same hymn when alternatives are available..Version: 3.110

My favourite appComplete Catholic app that allows me to have everything in my pocket. Enjoying the Apple CarPlay component for those long drives. A must have app..Version: 3.26

Makers it so easyIt isn’t easy to find your way around the breviary and often needs 3 markers. But Universalis finds everything you need and arranged it for you in one place. Plus adds features like “About today”. Spiritual reading, etc. Plus a daily missal and all for a tiny price. Our whole prayer group is converted. A real blessing..Version: 3.110

My reviewUniversalis, Pray As You Go, Sacred Space and Living Space, and Discerning Hearts have kept me in line; on line. Universalis, yesterday I learned from ‘you’ that it was St. Benedict’s feast. In me pocket was his medal! Serendipitously, I was afforded Mass. I especially appreciate the style of the narrative. I often pray this site to calm and assure myself. I have to, sometimes. - Patrick RN.Version: 3.90

Brilliant applicationBeing able to have the complete liturgy of the hours anywhere one goes is absolutely fantastic (including no Internet required). Easy to use while on the bus, at work, in town etc. Extremely well laid out I actually use this version over the paper version even while saying the hours at home. A brilliant application, couldn't rate it more highly..Version: 0

Lovely apps with a few small quirksThis app is an indispensable part of my routine as a Priest. The only fault I can find is that within the order of Mass not all the rubrics are there. I also dislike being charged more to have audio when I’ve already paid a lot just to have full use of the application. I find it odd that there is not the option to choose Fransiscan as an option for religious order..Version: 3.102

Universalis - a way of lifeI have been using Universalis for a long time & love that it is being constantly updated, both liturgically & sensitively. As a Permanent Deacon I am grateful that it has covered the whole prayer of the Church (replacing the need to hunt through 3 volumes of The Office, not to mention both Sunday & Weekday Missals). I generally turn first to ‘About Today’ & have learnt so much about the saints of the Church, which otherwise one would not learn of. Commentaries by Dom Henry Wansborough & access to books about the Catholic faith are a source of inspiration & encouragement to take up ‘sacred reading’. By the grace of God, my wife is able to join me in reciting Morning, Evening & Compline prayer, & I love the Scriptural Rosary. May the Lord continue to bless Martin Kochanski & his team, and May many people be brought to a loving & close relationship with the Lord Jesus through your work..Version: 3.108

Wonderful prayer aidJust started using Universalis and enjoying the format which is very user friendly. Minimal learning curve, large selection of liturgy and services, read or audio for many of them. Liturgy of hours, mass and rosary are what I’ve used so far. Many other options! Grateful!.Version: 3.102

Superior app for the Mass readings in Liturgy of the HoursThis app is far superior to any others for both the readings of the Mass, and the Liturgy of the Hours. It is accessible whether or not one has access to the Internet. The new addition of the spiritual reading is very helpful. I also like the Lectio. I utilize nearly every section. Thank you for your continuous updates and improvements. I have been using this app for over six years..Version: 3.25

Wonderful start to the morningThis is a great app for anyone whether he/she is a religious or a lay person like me. It makes a nice start to the morning, is easy to us and has good reference materials as well. I enjoyed that one minute reflection on the Creed and would love more one minute reflections. Thanks for what you do with this app!.Version: 3.90

Essential Divine OfficeIf you pray the Divine Office, the Universalis app provides you with the exact text that is in the volumes, but without the weight and complexity of learning how to find your way through the books. Not only that, but as we are blessed with new Blesseds and Saints, it quickly updates with their correct readings. If you are a member of a religious order, you can set it to show your own particular memorials and saints. If you wish, you can choose to pray the Office for the dead. There is literally everything in here that you would get in the books, and in fact more. For a one time purchase you will get years of updates and additions. I highly recommend it..Version: 3.96

Simply Indispensable! An app that every catholic should have as well as those interested in catholic liturgy. I use it at least once every day and usually more often. App, Website, Mac & PC, they have it all. It was the first catholic app I purchased and it is still my favourite..Version: 1.98

EaseBecause my routine changes frequently, I like that there are audio options for most categories. I can maintain devotions no matter where I am which is wonderful not only spiritually but practically as I am often in locations beyond WiFi and cell phone signal. The readers are human and intentional. Mostly, though, I just read. There are long versions and short options for many categories. It has been simple to adjust the print size so that I can read and pray without my glasses. My young daughter loves singing Salve Regina at the end of playing the rosary. She loves praying the Angelus, too, partly because of this app. I think it’s because she can hear the voices of children praying with the adults in the audio versions. The app updates regularly and I have not experienced glitches within the app..Version: 3.110

Right praiseI have found Universalis a wonderful help in giving God right praise. It gives me a great structure on which to build my prayer life. It unites me with so many around the world praying to God. Thank you Universalis.Version: 3.115

Universalis transformed my prayer lifeThank you for Universalis. It has inspired me in my prayer life. I use it everyday throughout the year for mass here and abroad, and for the Devine Offices. I am so attached to it now, I wouldn’t know what to do without it. I can use it anywhere in the world..Version: 3.107

Wonderful resourceThanks to the developer for such a useful and clever app. Used daily, updated regularly, Universalis is worth every penny..Version: 3.92

Appreciate accent marks optionThis is a very impressive app. Something I recently became aware of is the option to show the accent marks that appear in the Singing Version of the Grail psalms. It means the psalms can be the same as they appear in the Divine Office, which Is a great help for me in singing them..Version: 2.82

Excellent App, with lots of useful featuresAt its heart this provides a very helpful reference for daily prayers and mass attendance, always providing the right readings to fit the calendar. Worth exploring the extensive additional features which include having an alternative language for the order of mass, making it much easier to follow mass when travelling abroad..Version: 3.69

MagnificentThe full version is fully what is required. It is the perfect app for preparation and ministry. I've even sent in a suggestion to webmaster and I was heard. Thanks to all those who have put this together..Version: 1.79

EssentialThis is a great app. The developers are always looking at adding things. I’ve tried similar apps but this one, hands down is the best. I use this app at least twice a day, as do all of my friends and family. This has become essential to my day and my ministries. This is up there with the most used apps I own and use. Thank you, thank you..Version: 3.90

Need Psalms addedThis is a great application. I would give it 5 stars if the Psalms for the daily Readings at Mass were added. That way the application would be completely self contained..Version: 0

Almost, but not quite! Some of the scripture readings don’t correspond with the translation used in the printed English Divine Office books, they’re obviously the same reference but not the same version. This means if you’re using the App to pray alongside others who use the book, things don’t match, and makes it awkward if you’re the reader for example. Sometimes the antiphons don’t match the book, too. Also, an option to view the 1962 Calendar would be nice. That doesn’t necessarily mean we need the 1962 office available too, clearly that would be a massive undertaking and other good apps are available for that, but the calendar helps for those of us who attend both ‘forms’ of the Roman Rite..Version: 3.01

A Great BlessingThank you for Universalis. It has been a great help in my walk with The Lord. What a great time savings to have so much wonderful content so well organized and even narrated for when one cannot sit down, all at the ready. The smartphone and internet are redeemed, at least in part..Version: 3.90

EffortlessLove the app as it saves me presetting my book and making any errors when deciding which readings are the order of the day. For someone saying the office on their own, without assistance, it takes away any doubts as to whether you are participating correctly..Version: 3.91

Outstanding ResourceI have been using this App for years and it is a delight to use. It cuts down on having to carry a large breviary around. It makes the Office easy for those unfamiliar with what can often be a complicated ritual. I highly recommend it..Version: 2.60

Love UniversalisIt is easy to use. I can quickly get to the daily Mass readings. I can choose which version. Also if the lecture is doing an alternate reDing I can easily switch. I also know ahead of time if there are alternative readings. Great for when I am a lecture. I have a notification for the 12:00 prayers. And it brings me right to my prayers. Also new that I came be reminded of my loved ones date of death and read something that I have written about them..Version: 2.99

Very helpfulUniversalis is helpful. It provides The Office, which used to be book markers and moving these, now is all set up in an orderly manner which helps in making it the great prayer it is. Hence 5 stars.Version: 3.91

PortableUniversalis is easy to use, handy for local feasts as can be set both Nationally and to a local diocese . Much easier to use on holiday rather than carry breviary and again has mass , readings available so worth having on each device.Version: 3.92

Thank you for this wonderful app that has helped me so muchThank you, I have been able to learn how to say some of the divine office. Thanks to this wonderful app. I love that it is available in various languages..Version: 3.100

Great App! The Developers Listen!!!Curios about LOTH, just starting, every once in a while (myself), or every day prayer… This app is a must if you use electronic format! I have the notifications set up in the background (just in case I make time to pray)… it works! The readings grab you, scriptures draw you in, and before you know it… you’re participating in the ongoing liturgy. I recommend you read through the ‘Help and Tips’ section under information. There are so many options to personalize the way you use this app… I may have missed something, but after reading all the comments, it appears the developers have worked through all the comments (requests and critiques) to meet the needs of the users. Great app! So thankful! Praise be to the Lord Jesus!.Version: 3.88

SIMPLE YET THOROUGH SCRIPTURE THROUGHOUT EACH DAYThe app is beautiful in its simplicity, structure, adherence to the correct literary wordings, and thoroughness of readings and instructional stories. I start each day reading About Today, inspiring stories about the saints. I then read Readings at Mass, that are correct scripture readings for Mass each day of the year. Then I read the Office. In this way I gain knowledge and understanding of God’s desire for us to be obedient to His commandments, how He abhors wickedness and rewards righteousness with kindness and mercy. It helps me to focus each day on doing God’s will. Before falling asleep each day, I try to read the Compline, apologizing to God for any offense I may have committed, thanking Him for all the graces given during the day, and asking Him to keep me safe and near to Him forever..Version: 3.96

Best electronic breviary on the marketUniversalis is getting better and better with every update, and it's worth more than the asking price. I have taken out an annual subscription for features I don’t even use, just so I can support the developers. The basic app’s multi-language support, multi-calendar support, copyrighted translations, and its highly personalized lives of the saints (especially the English martyrs) are stand outs..Version: 3.91

App won't update on iPadGreat app! It is used daily but the latest update March 15, 2016...won't update...the updating process for this app only, stalls after showing a complete download icon (blue circle around pause button). Please fix.Version: 2.32

Superb, useful, essential! This really improves your spiritual journey - making prayer more regular and essential texts more conveniently available. The app provides everything you need to say or attend Mass or Divine Office. Frees you from heavy volumes while travelling or when sitting on the seashore to pray! Abroad you can hold the Mass in English in your hand. The developers are adding improvements all the time - sung Compline, hourly prayer thoughts, personal memorial cards etc etc. Considering the vast amount of material to be tamed this app is superb, easy to use, and trouble free..Version: 3.25

Great app for faithful daily prayer and liturgy.Calendar is especially helpful. You can reference and get to liturgical days forward and backwards, Text, format and fonts make it easy to read. The “page turning” feature, much like turning the pages of a book, is a nice touch..Version: 3.110

JoyfulThere are days when I cannot attend Mass. To know that I can at least spiritually join in the liturgy of Mass being celebrated somewhere in the world is a joy for which I am grateful. This online presentation of the Divine Office is exquisite. There is so much to praise but the simple act of turning the pages is still a thrill. Thank you and God bless you..Version: 3.112

Amazing app.I love the Universalis app. It’s like having a breviary in your pocket! It’s very convenient as you can read the liturgy of the hours anywhere you are. It’s perfect for me because I am visually impaired, and as a result, it’s hard for me to read a traditional breviary, but I have no trouble reading with the Universalis app since I can adjust the font size. I would not be able to pray the liturgy of the hours without this app. I am so thankful that I downloaded this app. It’s worth every penny. It has helped my prayer life and faith life tremendously. Thank you to the developers, and may God bless you all..Version: 3.80

Great Bible AppThis app has all the bells and whistles, literally. All the daily readings you need, all the saint days, Catholic Art resources, audio if you want it. Awesome! Highly recommended!.Version: 3.100

Daily essentialA fillip to devotions.Version: 3.95

Liturgical Living Made EasierMy wife and I recently have decided to have our family homeschool and live liturgically. And this app makes everything unbelievably easier for me as the leader of the house. The saints of the day is really really interesting. Having all this integrated into our shared iCal is amazing for our family. Oh and Latin! 🥰 keep up the great work!.Version: 3.72

ExcellentVery useful when out and about, though I always use my actually breviary when at all possible. Excellent having the Latin too..Version: 2.65

Excellent! No, really! This App is well worth it. A bargain! It’s fair to say that, discovering this app changed my life because it made accessible to me the Prayer of the Church, the Divine Office, the Liturgy of the Hours, Praying the Psalms, these Holy Poems and Canticles. I was never going to get the flipping around in a book, setting ribbons etc. I’m too distracted for that (ADHD!). I choose the dark format and page flipping, but you can have a white background and scrolling. Reciting these Holy Songs out loud makes me aware that all my sentiments, emotions, lamentations, grievances, works, joys and sorrows have a place in the life of prayer, and in the Church, as long as they are given context through the ancients who pleased God. They make accessible to me ALL of God’s emotions too, and help me understand Christ and the history of God’s relationship with man..Version: 3.91

Audio for the responsorial , Please.Kyan.Version: 3.91

Spiritual life assistanceUniversalis is a wonderful app to assist the spiritual life.Version: 3.118

LexioMy wife and I begin many days with morning prayer and lexio divina. Through the Holy Spirit they guide our morning reflections which prompt our daily intentions. Grateful for the ease with which this app blends scripture and letters of the saints for our prayer life. We likely would not do the same with a book version of the liturgy of the hours. This technology is a bright spot in these troubling times. Pray for humanity. Pray for families everywhere..Version: 3.110

TransformationalThe OG creator of this App has done more to promote the recitation of The Divine Office than any bishop could have hoped to do. Pope St Paul VI’s ardent wish that the Liturgy of the Hours be prayed by all of Christ’s Faithful is thus made real. Easy to navigate; a joy to use. Thank you..Version: 3.110

Amazing appIt’s great to have all these spiritual readings the mass readings and all these things and more that I don’t use or understand but amazing app many thanks.Version: 3.91

The best book for daily prayersGood day. I have been using this app for over 8years and I find it simple to read and understand for my daily prayers. Helps in spiritual growth and increases my faith in the Catholic Church. I would recommend this app for all people whether priest Nuns or lay person this is the best daily app..Version: 3.110

Who would have thought…Although definitely not the same as praying with the community it does the job in light of its portability. I’ve been using Universalis for a number of years. It’s been a great help in keeping me focused on taking a few moments during the day to stop and reflect. This app is especially helpful in that I can take it with me anywhere. There are those times where carrying a book around is impossible.Version: 3.110

4 out of 5Hope this version fixes the 'go to' star on the bottom of the calander. If you accidentally hit a month on the right side of the calendar the star on the bottom is supposed to bring you back to today's date, but it hasn't worked in the last few versions (it used to work) other than that its great although I don't know which bible version they are using at Mass because the wording is not the same and sometimes completely different. New American orJerusalem, must be another..Version: 1.88

PrayerI was introduced to this app by a friend and use it everyday.. I am a member of the neocatecumenal way and as part of the way, we prayer lauds every morning, including the two office of readings. My husband uses the bell tool to remind him to pray and if he doesn’t have time it just keeps him on the right track by reminding him to stay close to god. The app is really easy to navigate and a really cheap way to read The word of God..Version: 3.110

Good but do t like what has been done to the OfficeNot their fault but take Psalm 109 for example :who gives who the right to censor the word of God? “Their heads shall be shattered far and wide” That’s one example.Version: 3.96

Please add liturgical year.Love you app and options available. Although tempted, I do not open the app during Mass. For Sundays, I have perused the readings at home, but I have trouble in some churches where the books are arranged by liturgical year. Could you add that information (eg, 25th Sunday in ordinary time, year B)?.Version: 3.72

Thanks be to God for this appIt's the reason I wanted an iPhone. No, not kidding. The finest Divine Office, ibreviary app there is, not reliant on an Internet connection and fully searchable - go to any day of any year any time. Not biased to one country's calendar; select your country for more specific readings..Version: 0

Excellent app, frequently updated.I use this app regularly for weekday Mass and find it really excellent - I would be happy to use it for Sundays too, but at our church Mass books are provided and so is not strictly necessary..Version: 3.33

Thankyou!Well done guys. What an awesome addition to my iphone- not cheap, but so worth it. The only issue I have is hoping people realize I'm following the readings at Mass and not checking text messages!.Version: 0

Helpful and reverentI love it! Great content, easy to use and beautifully presented. The familiar breviary and Missal layout is wonderful. Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!.Version: 3.66

Daily devotionalHow blessed we are to have a this resource to support our faith and magnify our understanding of the Word. Thanks be to God..Version: 3.91

ImpressedThis app is very impressive. I appreciate having the Greek at least for the Gospel, as well as the Latin for Order of the Mass but would very much like to see it also for the collect, prayer over the gifts, preface, and post-Communion. The number of other languages for the Order of Mass was a pleasant surprise..Version: 1.89

Comprehensive and easy to useThis is an excellent resource. It has comprehensive content, including the scripture readings for each day’s Mass, information about the saints whose feast day falls on each day, prayers in common use, the daily spiritual readings in the Divine Office (or ‘Hours’), together with the full Divine Office for each ‘hour’ of each day. It is well laid-out and easy to navigate. And it has a beautiful look and feel, making it a pleasure to use. Finally, it is excellent value for money. Highly recommended..Version: 3.115

Great appI use this daily to pray the Office of the Readings and Compline..Version: 3.110

Beautiful addition to my prayer lifeChanging a widget doesn’t always make an app better. A selection of widgets in this case is preferable..Version: 3.54

Love UniversalisI love Universalis because it’s so easy to use. I love especially the Spiritual Readings and commentaries daily..Version: 3.108

A Backbone for PrayerWhen I am in desolation, I can always count on Universalis to lead me and keep me faithful to prayer even when the feelings aren’t there. And often I will receive a small consolation from the Lord through this practice. I especially appreciate the spiritual readings which I would otherwise not be aware of..Version: 3.110

Love it!I love this app and all that it provides. Well worth the price. Thanks for your great work!.Version: 3.105

Awesome.Fantastic reading options include ability to change don't sizes, typeface, brightness, and even switch to night mode. Navigation is easy and intuitive. I had to drop this to four stars because it’s sorely missing the NAB texts that we use in the US, making it hard to pray with others that use the physical books or other apps..Version: 3.01
