PocketGuitar - Virtual Guitar in Your Pocket for Positive User Reviews

Best app ever! For those who are saying they can't play any songs arnt trying hard enough! Sounds better than my acoustic but worse than my ukulele. Which may I add also sounds better than my acoustic. Perhaps an update for a capo? Or be able to save custom tunings? All in all great app!.Version: 0

Anti boredom remedy for guitaristsIm nearly 20 years old and ive been playing guitar and keyboards since i was 6. Ive always been a harsh critic towards "instrument emulating" things like the guitar hero/rock band games now dont get me wrong i think those games and other things in that sorta nature are cool but the drawback with those is they practically take minimal skill. Long story short my best friend had this app on his iPod and I was instantly hooked and blown away with the realism of this app and when I got my iPod touch for Xmas, it was one of the very first apps I put on mine. I do must say tho if I were you I'd have some degree of playing experience.Version: 0

I had a lot of funBut an update is due... Lots of bugs.. Sometimes the settings I'd stuck even restarting the app. Only solution is to restsrt the phone. Fret scrolling is overdue... But for a dollar, it was more like a donation service. The effects are actually not bad at all. And you also get the other instruments. UPDATED: sweet update. Scrolling is a little tricky but it's actually pretty good. I think the buttons that popup should be a lot larger though (for scrolling). I think a good balance would be to have the settings, scrolling and effects buttons at the top, and 3 scrolling bookmarks at the bottom..Version: 0

Definitely worth itAny new instrument takes time to figure out. This is fiddly for big fingers, but if you use the ukele setting and so have only 4 strings you get more room. you can learn how to use your fingers to get the notes you want. The hammer function means you can play it like a Xylophone and with practice you can get more out of this instrument than it's designers intended. Retune the strings, experiment, plug it into an amp... unbelievable value for 59p..Version: 0

Works beautifullyDoes what it promises, and does it well. It works better than I expected a guitar app would. Well worth the money..Version: 0

Pocket GuitarFor the price this is a great app. I can already play Sweet child o Mine, Simpsons theme, Enter Sandman. You need to try and find riffs that can be played within 4 frets. Most guitarist should be able to play something..Version: 0

Great great great5 stars this is the 2nd app I ever bought yea a real guitar is better. Yea it's hard to play at first but like anything else the more you play the easier it gets. I can play songs on it pretty good. Yea they don't sound spectacular and your fingers dont fit right but considering that it is on a small cell phone screen I think they did the best they could with what they had to work with. To all the people thinking about buying this I would defenetly recomend it. Lots of fun good job guys. PS.....I don't know if you guys are still doing updates on this but it would be great if you added a acustic guitar. Thanks.Version: 0

This is a Great App for Musicians. As a bass player of 22 years, this is one of the most useful apps that I have on my phone. I purchased this app late one night when I jumped out of bed with a song idea in my head. Instead of digging out my bass this time, I went to the app store via my iPhone and found this app. Within minutes, I had the instrument switched to the bass, tuned to drop D (for this idea) and had picked out the melody that I was hearing in my head. I made some quick notes, and brought them to rehearsal the following week. I've also recently used the app in conjunction with the iPod on the phone to learn some tunes, and work with scratch studio tracks when I can't get to my bass making my practice time much more productive. It's certainly not a replacement for an actual instrument, and some additional features (a 6 string bass, and some basic recording functionality to name a few) would be nice - but for $0.99 this is a great buy! Kudos to the developer!.Version: 0

WowThank you very great app! Note that it CAN bar chords! just swipe your finger accros many notes and hold it!.Version: 0

Great, worth the money, buy it.Awsome, love it, great, worth the money, buy it..Version: 0

New update is great!I just got the update and I must say, the new features are awesome!.Version: 0

A total bargainThis is one of the coolest apps on here, you can really play tunes although it is quite hard to do chords but then again if u knew how to play chords then surely you would have a real guitar! Great for on the bus strumming!! And you get a lot of stuff for only 59p bargain, TOP app!!!!.Version: 0

AwesomeLove it! I can play so many songs on this it's rad , but you should have a distortion pedal for more sound effects.Version: 0

AmazingThis app does everything it says it does, works great never crashes awesome to show people how awesome your iPhone is. It's not really practicle to jam out on if that's what you were thinking but it's fairly easy to play most single noted songs or intros (like metallica's one and enter sandman) sometimes when holding strings it drops them so it makes it hard to play chords. And could use an option to change fret position. All in all a very fun app definately a 5 star app anyone that says otherwise is silly. Price is right, does everything it says I'm not sure if they were expecting to play full blown guitar or not but cmon it's a phone app. Anyways well worth the small ammount of money so buy it..Version: 0

Heaps o' funIt's great when you need to figure something out or get something down that popped into your mind. Takes about an hour to get the swing if you play real guitars. Adjusting the positions is great if you have particularly large fingers like I do. It's fun to mess around with every now and then. Just wish my screen was as wide as a real neck. It's like playing a giant guitar. But that's not this apps fault. It's good..Version: 1.3

:DGreat app!! I just think it needs some updates. It would be awsome if you could add more effects like a flanger or a phaser and maybe a more realistic sounding distortion that could possibly have more drive for all the metalheads that get bored while on the go. I also wish that you could add 7 string guitars and 5 string basses for nu-metal fanatics. You might also want to consider adding a mandolin to go along with the uke in the small not guitar instrements. The ukelele is lonely. :( plus many of the others doing reviews want a song maker and I think that is I very good idea. Please consider my ideas and think over then. Pleasure doing buisiness with you.Version: 0

Worth the price! If you're into guitars I recommend this map !!!!!!! !!!!!!!.Version: 0

For all those who complain they are getting "no sound"......you're touching the wrong part of the fretboard - you have to strum over the black part at the bottom of the screen - if you strum over the neck the app just thinks you're fretting that string. Great app, brilliant fun, and the guy who says he's seen better free apps is a liar..Version: 0

Hmmm... Suggestion..I recently bought this application, this being my first application that I have ever purchased, and I was wondering if it would be possible to add a feature. The ability to either choose which fret you would like to start on on the fretboard or make a way to scroll along the fretboard while in play. The reason I am suggesting this is because when you adjust the fret sizes to allow more frets they become small and almost unplayable and not to mention the fact that you cant see some of the frets that you would like. If you could implement this feature the application would be perfect..Version: 0

Pretty much the most awesome thing since high fives! This is so fun it's stupid. The guitar plays so well and the options available make it the best sounding guitar for under 2 dollars. The only thing I would change would be the ability to capo the guitar. If this app was a lady I would marry it and raise half human/half guitar kids. Well I guess techincally half iphone kids... Either way, they wouldn't be able to shower being decended electical devices, but the point is that they're parents would love them, and in this digital world - that's all.Version: 0

FunHa, a lot of fun, and good sounds...I too made the mistake of having the sound switch turned off on the side (I'd thought it would override that), but once sorted was very impressed...and for 59p, you can't really lose..Version: 0

XlntCan't believe the miserable Gits who complain about paying. This is superb ! It's not a bloomin' guitar - that should be obvious, but you can still be quite creative in seconds if you understand basic guitar tuning- in fact you don't even need that if you are a bit creative. Well done. Now, get the piano done..Version: 0

This Rocks!Fantastic array of settings, excellent design. While there are limitations to how realistically you can play combinations of notes and chords, and how many frets can be held at once, it's a matter of learning the limits in order to make something sound good. messing around with simple compositions, distortion and delay on the electric guitar is where this app really shines. Combined with the accelerometer whammy bar, and a line out to your hi-fi = fun..Version: 0

Fully functional again! READ THIS.If you are having trouble strumming or placing 2 or more fingers on the strings and playing its probably because you have the zoom function enabled on your phone. You can tell if this is enabled by tapping on your screen twice quickly with 3 fingers. In order to use this app fully, go to your 'Settings' > 'General' > 'Accessibility'> then turn 'Zoom' off. Now that I figured this out, I'll be using this app all the time again!.Version: 1.4.1

Fun little app!Great fun! For those of you who complained about not knowing how to play and that being a drawback, just go online and learn some basic chords! I learnt how to pick some essential chords in less then 5 mins... Wish all apps were this good and fun!.Version: 0

BrilliantBrilliant application for on the move, yes it is hard to play and to use, and you cannot multiple frets at a time, but what do you expect from a phone? and dw about the "Whaaing" when you move it, you can literally disable and enable every feature you need..Version: 0

Pocket Guitar Is Fabulous But Needs 1 Thing For Use on iPadThis App has great features but it was designed for the iPhone and iPod Touch. When you use the App on an iPad the frets are located in the center of the large screen and you can't comfortably reach them by holding the iPad vertically and reaching up from under it as you would reach up from under the neck of a guitar. NOTE TO THE DESIGNER: Can you modify a version for the iPad that would enable users to shift the frets to the bottom of the screen rather than in the center? That would greatly add to it's playability and value as a practice device. Also, it would be nice to have a clean instrument tone that would sound better for jazz..Version: 0

AmazingThe only downside to this app is that I have stumpy fingers. For what it's worth, I don't think there's a better app out there. You can select different instruments, which sound great..Version: 0

Favourite App!I loved Pocket Guitar from Installer and was my favourite app ever and such a fun toy. Was very dissappointed with Band for not having a guitar in it. I've always wanted to play guitar and this is the closet I'll ver get without paying huge amounts of money for a real guitar. Keep up the good work! Well wort 59p..Version: 0

Amazing! This is the coolest app on my phone..Version: 0

Great appGreat app but I would like it more if as u play a certain note it'll be displayed on the screen.Version: 0

This app isI love this app! I bought it thinking that it would be gay but boy was I wrong!!! The only thing is they should make the strings closer together and they should add an amp!!!.Version: 0

Don't download if you don't play guitarJeez, noobs are downloading this and complaining :S hell, I can play crazy train with this app, download if u know what your doing and it's awsome to have.Version: 0

BrilliantThis app is so well thought out, and perfectly executed, and awesome price. Perhaps a future realease thought could include example chords (with dots for placement) for n00bs, or adapt a version of guitar hero? A must have app, Well done!.Version: 0

AwesomeThis app is the best guitar app ever! All the settings give you the ablilty to do anything I also like how you can make different guitar types ( like I made a avenged sevenfold type... as in drop-d and distortion!).Version: 0

Well worth a buckThe first app I have bought and I'm very happy with it u do kinda need to know some VERY basic guitar but all u really need to know is how to read tabs witch takes about 1 min to learn then soon enough u can be play some of your favorite riffs heck this can be used to help u learn guitar and can subsatute a real guitar when u want to practice and u don't have one with u Although realisticlly it's no substite for a real guitar the bad reveiws are reveiws from nonguitarsts or ppl who don't know how to expand and shrink the freats the menu extents off the screen u have to scroll down. Also u can play music andthis at the same time play the song u want start the app ( while playing) and when it fades away double tap the home button and press play :) :D.Version: 0

Brilliant AppLoving this app, best downloaded so far. Helps if you understand the guitar a little before hand though I think... became much more useful when I found the option to Adjust Position! After spreading the frets out I could manage most basic chords. Sweet :o).Version: 0

Great! This app will only be really fun and good to have if you play the guitar or ukelele, as you can practice your tunes and songs on the move like a car or bus. Non-guitar users might get bored quickly. Overall good and very fun! A must get music app!.Version: 0

Not terribleDespite the fiddly-ness it has a pretty good overall range of effects and settings, and if all else fails it works as a guitar tuner..Version: 1.3

GREATESTWonderful application but i wish in the next update you would put guitar lessons on it.Version: 0

As good as it getsIt can't get any better for the iPhone, just a little hard to use but yeh AWESOME.Version: 0

First app bought and am very impressed!I have to say this app is great! Yeah its a novelity and it will never replace the real thing but for demostrative purposes it rocks. I would love to see in the next app update that hammer on and/or pull offs became a fuction. Im not really sure how hard that would be though..Version: 0

Not bad!It was surprisingly good, especially for the price! Enjoyable, plenty of different settings, easy to use. Difficult to play anything very well because of the smallness of the iPhone, but fun nevertheless..Version: 0

Awesome App!!!This app is definetely one of the best apps in the app store. I myself play guitar and find this very entertaining! The most amazing thing about this app is that it has almost everything. Bending with the accelerometer, alterative tuning, effects and even a ukelele. I recommend this to tech lovers and guitar players. Also, for a buck it's a bargain!.Version: 0

AMAZINGThis IS Awesomely realistic but ... In The Next update pleeeeease can you make the strings cleaner and instead of going into a settings to change the frets please can you make like a scroll bare so you can quickly flick to the fret you want ... then you can make songs :D xxx.Version: 0

The bestVery good.Version: 1.5.2

BrilliantThis app is awesome, you can chose how much/which part of the fret board to display and I love how you can use alternate tuning! Any guitarist will enjoy this..Version: 0

Incredibly funThis has created a long wanted dream to always have a guitar on the go come true. Although it cannot replicate the exact satisfaction of playing a real guitar it has gifted me the perfect amount I need to give it five stars. With enough fiddling of preferences this app becomes extremely addictive, would recommend to any guitarist too addicted to their guitars to leave the house 😂..Version: 1.5.2

Read Acedian's review before complainingPlease don't write a review until you understand how an app works. This is an amazing application at a bargain price. I've been using it since beta and only paid for it because I support the developer and want him to continue improving and refining his product. Acedian's review explains all you need to know to get started, so if you wrote a negative review, read those instructions and then consider posting a retraction. It's .99 cents, people. I'd pay a lot more, and a greedy developer would have charged a ton for an application of this quality..Version: 0

The more you play the better it gets! This is such a good app! Very well executed and makes the most of the form factor's limited space... After some practice you start creating some nice tunes and adapt to work in the limited space. You can fine tune effects for some nice realistic sounds! Great :-].Version: 0

GreatEnjoy this, it works well! Suggestion for the developers (you are beautiful people) you could add the ability to flick up the fretboard & play higher, without going into settings I mean. A scrollable fretboard. I'd love you forever. Kisses xxx.Version: 0

GreatGreat app but this is more of a toy then I thought it would be but you can still play some simpler songs on it but PLEASE fix the open strings they sound TERRIBLE other then that this plays and sounds fantastic.Version: 1.3

AWESOME!!!I can actually play guitar, so i bought this app, thinking it might be OK. was i wrong. this is probably one of the best apps i have. i started trying to play the soothsayer (by buckethead) intro on a real guitar, but was still having some troubles. i was forced to be away from my guitar for a while, so i started practicing on pocketguitar for about a week, just for fun (ir so i thought). to my surprise, after i got back to my real guitar, all that pocketguitar practice payed off, and the fingering for the song seemed SO much easier!! if u dont have a guitar with u and want to practice fingering, set it for auto pluck, hold it sideways like a guitar, and practice! do it enough and it will help!! and ALSO for the guy who said u cant see the strings when u turn it sideways, how about u TILT UR HEAD FORWARD so u can see the strings? and im aware u cant scroll while playing, but the intro of the song i was talking about only covers four frets. seriously, calm down kemosabi.Version: 0

Good but...Wow! I just got this app to my IPod Touch and it's brilliant!... But... even when I turn the 'Pull-Off to Open Note' setting on, it still stops the vibration when I pull-off to an open string. :( But apart from that, really good app, which was much, much better than I expected!.Version: 0

An axe in your pocket!Quite amazing! You can play this anywhere. Play along with songs from your music library and jam to backing tracks. Makes traveling bearable! The settings let you adjust most things including‘hammer on’ and ‘pull off’and effects. You really can play ‘live’ with this great app!.Version: 1.5.2

Sounds Very RealisticThat is amazing how Good It sounds! You can get Lots Of Amp’s For Free. Thanks for making this app..Version: 1.5.2

Learning To PlayI just learned how to play walking 12 bar blues on the bass and this helps me practice because I don't own one yet. If your not trying to play anything to difficult it works really good, but if you want to play something more technical and things like chords I wouldn't get it because you can't reach lower frets and higher frets at the same time. You have to stop playing and scrool down to get to them. You can show all the frets at one time but unless your fingers are super skinny and small it won't work..Version: 0

Best Realistic Guitar AppEasily the best and most realistic guitar app on the App Store for the past many years. I see a lot of reviews expecting this to be a toy or game app. There are already a lot of those apps on the market, where you play a guitar hero-type game and play along with a song or solely an image of a guitar and you tap on the strings and they automatically play chords for you. This is app DOES NOT do this. This app is a guitar simulator. I even saw reviews with 1 star stating that "this app is broken, you press on a fret and it just mutes it"... If you have ever played a real guitar, strum it, and then lightly tap on the strings... Well they are muted. Anyways, this app is wonderful. Obviously fret/screen size is an issue, so you cannot play a song that is all over the fret-board. But I can play many songs, all the way through, with fairly good accuracy with this app and I definitely get a similar feeling to playing real guitar. It's great for plucking out chords or playing with simple melodies or scales. The honest truth: it's a great guitar simulator trying to deal with screen real-estate problems and you pretty much HAVE to be able to play guitar to use this app because it's truly a guitar simulator..Version: 1.4.1

Awesome!!!Soooo cool... Love it! Def takes a bit of getting used to but as a bit of fun its a must have for all guitarists. Well worth 59p!!! Anyone saying its rubbish im not realy sure what u wer expecting by playing guitar on ur i phone??? Could do with a couple more effects but its generally well put together.Version: 0

Best possible for the iphone/ipod touchFor those of you who say it's crap and write bad reviews: It's the best possible with the SDK for it! It's not possible in the Coding language to make your iPhone bigger. It's also not possible to make you able play chords the way you are used to. In this you tap and drag across the strings on the fret board. Its not possible to make the internal speaker louder. (just use headphones). With all it's alternate tunings and distortion and other extras like that, is why it's a 6/5 star app. Whoever coded this took the extra time to make this as good as it is, and gets no credit for it??? I give him/her a "job well done". You deserve it..Version: 0

Great AppGreat App, works perfectly....for those with no sound, play/pluck next to the home button, and those with not enough frets, go to settings and choose adjust positions...that should help you out..Version: 0

Wow!I am learning the guitar and I bought this to practice on the go and it's perfect! I also bought Chordmaster to help me learn the chords and if you are learning the guitar then the combination of the two apps is perfect. I highly reccomend this app to all. Thanks for this amazin app!!.Version: 0

Fun appI play the guitar, and this is def not the same! But it's a well thought out app! I will agree with the other people who say it is difficult to play, I have small fingers and even I find it difficult! Also bar chords do not work for me, but then Im a bit poo at them in real life too! For 59p I think it's great, just don't expect a real guitar, it's a phone .Version: 0

Fun, Well-Executed AppJust wanted to correct my first review. I complained about the amount of space given to the fretboard but have since figured out the fret size is adjustable! Seriously, if you can't play anything with this app, don't blame the app, blame the iPhone for not being a Fender Stratocaster. This app makes excellent use of the iPhone's touch screen and accelerometers to create the best digital simulation of real guitar sound I've seen anywhere..Version: 0

My fingers are too big for the frets but really good app.I was able to pull of a few riffs quite quickly, but making chords is difficult, i'm sure with practice i'll get better. The bottom line is you need to have some experience playing the guitar to bother with this app or you will be disappointed, it's not guitar hero. To the guitarist out there, the best 59p you'll spend here..Version: 0

Wow!Worth getting, although it would be great if we could change the range of frets,, but great job!.Version: 0

Exceeds ExpectationsThis is a well-done app. I was pleasantly surprised that I could actually play chords and simple tunes. To those who say that "this is no replacement for a real guitar", I can just say "well duh". I didn't download it to replace my guitar. I downloaded it to have something to play around with when I don't have access to my guitar. As a songwriter, it comes in handy when trying to come up with tunes. But clearly I wouldn't play any gigs with it.:) My only two qualms are the limited number of frets, which makes it hard to play chord progressions, and also the lack of string muting (muting a string next to the one you're holding down by touching it so that it doesn't play when you strum). But these are probably difficult to fix considering the platform, so those issues were expected. I wonder if you could find a way to make it easier to scroll up and down the fretboard with one touch..Version: 0

Exactly what I wantedI just wanted an app that allowed me to play on a guitar. You can't really play like you would be able to a real guitar, but I can write basic riffs on it. It also allows you to change the tuning you're playing in. You can change the strings individually too. It's got a guitar, bass, uke, and some pedals with effects like wah, distortion, and echo. If that's what you're looking for, this app is perfect..Version: 1.5.2

AwesomeThis is an amazing app, Great pass time.Version: 0

Very cool! What a great app and excellent value too. Sure, it's a bit tight for the fingers, but that's because of the size of the iPhone screen. Note, though, that the app does allow you to adjust the position of the strings which can help a bit..Version: 0

FantasticBrilliant regardless of price. Note(!) - you can press multiple strings with one finger by swiping across the fret against the strings and holding down; but takes practice (like in real life, ya know). The look on my minions/ valued work colleagues faces as I churn out another rancid rendition of "Lola" is one of life's personal Kodak moments. Downsides, no record function or inbuilt chord library etc. Not exactly a deal breaker. No, I really can't play guitar that well, but this rocks..Version: 0

GreatAwesome. Most satisfying app to have on my iPhone. I can play my guitar anywhere now!.Version: 0

The best application for your iwhatever you've got. This was the first app I ever got and I paid like $7.50 for it, so it's a bargain for $1.20 or whatever it Is. It's harder to use than a normal guitar and you can't play pantera on it but it's still berry cool, it just needs more patches to make it easier to play. Or possibly be able to use more than five frets at a time. RESPECT.Version: 0

Ongoing great entertainmentOf course its not a real guitar, so don't expect it to be anywhere near the real guitar experience. however, is still really really good, and comes close to. and you can learn/ relearn the basics of guitar over a selected amount of fretboard, which can be adjusted in the settings. i see myself using this app more frequently in future, i already use it for the train journey to work and my lunch breaks. great fun, and helps release your guitar imagination..Version: 1.3

ExcelentGreat for tuning your guitar and worth your dollar!!!.Version: 0

Really FunThis App has to be my favorite so far,I actually learned how to play Guitar now :] but it should allow you to do Barre Chords Or a Capo Option..Version: 0

Cherr broPhat as man.Version: 0

What took so long?Great app! has a good sound. love the use of accelerometer for tremolo! It took me a bit to figure out how to do barre chords (gotta start on one fret and drag finger down or up), perhaps there should be a more thorough manual to give these tips and tricks). Also, maybe have a setting where you can rotate the interface when you turn the iphone upside down, so my thumb doesn't always hit the volume switch on the phone when trying to hold the phone like the neck of a guitar. but it's ABSOLUTELY worth the money! next up? i want a PocketSitar!!.Version: 0

Great!!Best Guitar App Ever!! .Version: 1.3

It's awesomeI'm amazed by this app. Love the customizable settings. Once I was able to show more frets than the default, I was flying. Great job by the developers!.Version: 1.4

Great fun….But now stuck in portrait mode!.Version: 1.5.2

HOLY HELL, INCREDABLE!!!!!This is mind blowing, the iPhone has reached a new level, totaly worth that little amount of momey, where to from here. I can play all my old songs from schoo with incredable sound!!!l.. WOOOOOOWW!!!!!!!!.Version: 0

Entertaining and it works after all these yearsI originally bought this app when I had a new iPhone 3G. I have enjoyed strumming a few chords and shaking the phone to vibrate it a bit. It sounds accurate and the options work well for auto or manually plucking..Version: 1.5.2

Great!Nice time waster in school in the back of the class :).Version: 0

AmazingThis app is much more than I asked for! You can play over music playing from your library. It's a little awkward to hold the iPhone like a guitar neck (screen facing away from you) and see what you are playing. The solution I found was to play in lefty mode, that way I play with my thumbs. If you know what you are doing it works ptlretty well with solos. You can't play chords that way though. I love the effects (distortion, wah, chorus, and amp with reverb). It's also great that it let's you create custom tunings. My favorite is that you can save your settings. This is a serious pier of software. Delay is not a problem for me unlike others. It would affect your playing above 90bps I think. I only wish that it was possible to change positions (fret you play on) without clicking through menus..Version: 0

Excellent.Yes, you do need small fingers if you are using an iPhone, but it is just like a real guitar (and also includes bass and eukele). Plenty of options, you can space the strings and frets exactly how you want. This is the guitar app I have been looking for..Version: 1.4.1

Too fun! Is it a guitar? Sort of.No it's not a whole heck of a lot like a real guitar. The principle is the same sure, but this is an electronic instrument in it's infancy that is simply based on a guitar fretboard. It's no more a real guitar than a keytar is a Steinway. However, it's brilliantly programmed and too much fun! As a 20+ year player of guitar, bass and piano, I play on this app more than my office seems to like! Haha. At first I approached it from a 100% guitarist method. Horrible results! Then I started learning how it felt and worked, like a new instrument that was still very comfortable and familiar. I can now play on it almost fluidly and have much excitement about what it can grow into. My one piece of advice to the developer: it's not a guitar, so why not have the option to turn it into a guitar fretboard-based electronic instrument capable of sounds not possible on a guitar? Custom, downloadable patches/software instruments? Either way, LOVE THIS APP!.Version: 0

This is great for people who have just started to learn guitar! If your just starting then this is a great app to have because you can slide to any fret on the guitar, but the only bad thing is that it very hard to do chords due to the iphone/touch being small. You can also put distortion and a delay effect on the guitar which you can make some really funky sounds with..Version: 0

You get what you pay forFairly good app, some things could be improved as it is a little awkward to play, but overall a good app....Version: 0

Brilliant! Almost...Definitely has good sound, and the interface is just oh-so-close. Three things need to change: 1) Flip the whole interface upside down (as an option) so that my thumb doesn't press the volume up/down switch. 2) Allow the nut to be moved up (off the screen). I need room for my fingers, but not for fret one! With the nut on screen, there's really no way to realistically play a Bm with the first fret taking up 1/4 of the screen. 3) Allow hammer-on from open string. If the open string is playing, change the pitch when fretting, just like it works on fretted strings..Version: 0

More useful than fun.Hi I've had this app for a little over a week now and although haven't used it very much I can give you my impressions of it. I must say one thing right off the batt. If you don't play guitar don't buy this app, it isn't a game and the only thing you may get from it is the chance to annoy people. If you play guitar and want to play music on it... Well you really can't. You can do really really basic stuff(like songs on one string taught to beginning guitarists. You can have fun playing some simplistic songs that you like but you aren't going to get much from it. No if you plan to buy this app I must advise you against it unless you are in a situation like my own. I hang out at a friends house a lot and this friend has a junky acoustic guitar that he can't play. Now I can tune it to standard tuning, and anyone can, but if I want to tune to drop d or other alternative tunings this App can be used as a very simple tuner and for that it works fine.Version: 0

 awesome appI was bored on a trans Atlantic flight so I played this cuz I didn't have a guitar and it's pretty good but they should add a virtual amp so u can adjust distortion , effects ect..Version: 0

Just awesomeI love it it's so much fun I've already learned smoke on water and I just got it =).Version: 0

MrGreat app. Now I can play my guitar wherever I want! The only way this could be improved is if the abiltity to play simultaneous chords was added. Also an option to turn off the movement sensing would be great. You could also add the ability to have a clean glissando (slide) up and down the strings, not the stepped one it is at the moment. Overall, excellent app!.Version: 0

BargainIf your a guitar player, u will love re-learning how to play on what essentially is a different instrument. Such a great app. Get it now!.Version: 0

Time TestedI love how this app still works after all this time, I think I’ve had on every phone for 7 years at least. Sounds great and is still so much fun! A classic app! Must have always ❤️.Version: 1.5.2

Nice!Awesome app, very realistic sound. However, for some reason, I am not able to open up the settings, I slide for the setting and then the screen just goes black. I can go back to home without force quitting. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?.Version: 0

I Use thumbs to playI've gotten so many people turned onto this app, I'm known as the dude that rocks the iphone guitar app. I can shred the bass with my video-game style thumb tapping, just turn off strumming. Turn hammer notes off and stretch the frets. It's way easier for solos.Version: 1.5.2

GoodIt's not meant to be brilliantly, accurate, its just an iPhone app, but it is quite handy for practising guitar, and it has bass, electirc, even ukelele And when people say it has no sound, I just fiddled with the settings and it works!.Version: 0

Love this app!! How do you know a good app?...you know a good app if the users are asking for wishlist upgrades... and I have a wish list for this app!! I try and research apps before buying; this might be the best string instrument app available so far. I enjoy it and find it very easy to use... the sampling is sometimes a bit less responsive than a real guitar... duh... it's a freaking iphone!! my wish list for upgrades - • movement based scrolling, or some alternate scrolling method other than menu based buttons.... • other string instruments; currently all violin/fiddle apps are really dissappointing, there are no sitar/banjo/shamisen-kokyu... every time I play this guitar I wish I could also be playing some of these intruments... • the effects rack ROCKS!! could there be a flange as well?? I love me that 80's sound... • currently the tuning is only 24 pitch on each string - which limits you to an octave range in either direction - weirdos like me often tune an octave lower or beyond... since it's an imaginary instrument I would love to carry a bass ukulele or a tenor bass - just to see what it sounds like! • custom string numbers - I have two five sting fiddles and and wish I had a five string bass.... all of this is icing on what is based on my research the best string app on the market!!.Version: 0

Great Fun!!!I am just learning guitar and for me, this app is a godsend! I find this app very helpful for practicing my chords and notes without having to get out my guitar, or if I'm on the go. It's also fun to play around with and make up your own little melodies. It performs wonderfully. Very responsive, no lag, and nice sound. It's really easy to use and you get the hang of it after playing with it for a while. I recommend this app to all guitarists, no matter what your skill level is. Well worth $0.99. I love it!!!.Version: 0

A great app so far! This is a really good app, gave it to one of my friends friedns and he said it was great for tuning a real gutair, I really think this is worth it, if only I knew how to play gutair. I would like to see recording added so we can show off what we made, other than that, this is awesome..Version: 0

GreatThis app is amazing well worth the money. I've tried many apps and this is one if my faves. Great work guys.Version: 0

FinallyI've been waiting for a guitar app and thought it was stupid band didn't have it- wish you could record like in band and make tracks and I love the new features.Version: 0

One of a kindPretty good, nice work. More sounds would be cool.Version: 1.5.2

It's like a guitar for your pocket!!!This app rules! hands down the best guitar app for the platform. All the instruments sound great and the ability to literally pull a bass out of my pocket and lay down a quick line to loop and jam over is priceless..Version: 0

Best Guitar for iOS!A very good guitar for an iOS device, classical guitar sounds good and the clean guitar but besides that I wished there the lead guitar distortion had a better sound and a mute option to deaden the strings when playing songs with heavy metal style riffs. A very good app, best app out all the other ones I've seen. .Version: 1.3

PocketguitarPeople should figure out how to use it effectfully. I'm sure you guys haven't figured out that you can use one finger to play two strings. Try it out first tape one string and then drag your finger to the next one. This is a method to play some chords. I have to admit playing lower strings on the fret board is difficult..Version: 0

Great but it can be EpicI love this app, I have Jam Sessions for my Nintendo DS and it's no where near as good as this App is, but there are a few suggestions like as probably a few said the ability to do chords, the phone only supports two fingers at once as far as I can tell, so to get around that maybe the ability to TAP a string on a fret to hold that fret, and to indicate that fret is being held maybe a blue circle around that fret to indicate it's being "held", but if the finger stays on a fret for a while then let off, it'll act normally like on a real guitar, overall though this App is worth it, hopefully you keep updating this, I just got it recently..Version: 1.3

Absolutely amazing! This application is fantastic, a must buy after updating your iPod touch! I love the effects and how you can add more frets, plus there's a bass feature too!.Version: 0

One of the best appThis is one if the best all in one guitar app I have seen. Worth $.99 I loved it and still enjoying playing it, lead electric is my fav... Waiting for more updates. :)).Version: 1.3

Unbelievably CleverThis is such a clever application. I am about to go on holiday without my guitar - or so the family thought!!! Now I can play anywhere. Just one suggestion as an additional mode: it would be handy to be able to play simple chords just by pushing individual buttons and then strumming, e.g. push the 'G' chord button to play that chord. Cheating I know, but in practice it would make playing songs a little easier. Even if kept to the basic chords it would allow full use of the fantastic sound that this app produces..Version: 0

Experienced musicianHere's the short n sweet. Downloaded for my iPhone 3G Chords - yes. 6 string polyphony Bar chords - not really. Sometimes it will let you bar 2 strings with 1 finger, but it's very tricky There's like a 15ms lag on all sounds when strumming continuously, but it isn't a big deal. Your brain compensates and you forget it's there. There is a hammer-on setting that I haven't tried, but the pull-offs are intuitive and accurate. If you palm or touch mute strings while playing chords on a guitar, you have to rethink your chords here - no muting Small frets - They can be enlarged a bit, which helps, but still kinda tricky to master A neat on-the-fly distortion toggle feature with a decent bank of additional effects Ok so not so short like I intended, but this is stuff I wanted to know before buying Conclusion - feature rich, ergonomic controls, can strum, finger pick, hammer-on, pull-off, change tuning. I can't imagine any way to make it more realistic other than to get a bigger iPhone (for fretboard size) It's an advanced app - if you don't play guitar, you'll prolly spend 3 minutes trying and move on to something else like typical frustration when you don't know an instrument (like I feel in front of a piano - hopeless) but if you already have a clue, this is the one Five stars easy.Version: 0

The bestEasy to play, complete, amaizing, perfect..Version: 0

WINNER!Buy it. At first it's real hard to use hence the dooshbags reviewing it negatively because of the lack of playability. Also alot of ppl are complaining about the fact there are only 5 frets, If they had thought to go into settings and check before negatively reviewing it they'd have noticed there is an option to put more in. It's not a perfect guitar but it's on a phone so it's more then u could expect with any kind of realistic expectations.Version: 0

GoodIt's a fun game if u No how to play a guitar but it needs like a tab download thing and it shows u where tonput ur finger and also a capo and make chords sound like real chords it's a lot to ask but it would make it so much better and also a tuner for a real guitar would be nice.Version: 0

Amazing! This app is absolutely great, it takes a while to get used to as you cannot actually feel the strings but once you do get used to it it is great. The screen does only display four frets but that is absolutely fine as most songs are mostly in one position (using four consecitive frets) so it works perfectly for most songs..Version: 0

Great App For Music LoversI have been playing the guitar for a while, and bought this app a few months ago. For some reason i deleated it, but when i reuploaded it, i remembered what a great app it is. If you have many apps for music and you want to save space, I recomend this app. I had mulitiple apps for bass and guitar, but this had it all, so i was able to unclutter my ipod. It is also good practice for when I don't want to take out a guitar. I have also been thinking about learning electric bass, so this is good practice for that as well. My only downside is that it is a little hard to change between sections of the guitar, and then remember which frets are on which part. If they could make it easier, it would be a five star app for sure!!!!.Version: 0

ExcellentA really great app with multiple features and easy to use interface. I am a lefty bass player And I didn't think it could cater for me but I was very pleasantly surprised. Highly recommended.Version: 0

AWESOME ROCK ON Amazing app, soo awesome even my dad loved it LOL couple suggestions though, you guys should add a bouzouki, a harp, a sitar or something, add some different cultures into this app  thanks guys bye.Version: 0

Not badPretty good app . the only thing that i dont like is that u need to press a button to changa fret but its ok . maybe add the banjo would be good :) keep on the good work.Version: 0

Nice guitarNice guitar for nice price.Version: 0

Great updateWhen I paid the 59 pence for this I didn't expect anything more than a laugh and some interesting sound effects. However the new free upgrade turns this into a rather different proposition, it is steadily becoming a rather useful application and I am looking forward to its next incarnation, hopefully with recording ability to memorise riffs and melodies. Go, pocketguitar, go!.Version: 0

One of Those "Oh, snap!" Apps on the Same Page as PhoneSaberThis app reminds me a lot of PhoneSaber in the way that it can easily be used to show friends the kind of unique, creative and crazy things the iphone can do. Yet, PocketGuitar is endlessly a blast to "twiddle" around on during some free time, and really doesn't get old quickly because you are actually able to make realistic-sounding music. I was awfully surprised with this app, because I really wasn't expecting much (it is only 99 cents) even as far as functionality, but it is quite enjoyable and has a nice "wow" factor. I was also surprised with the added options and customization, such as using the accelerometer to change pitch, adding effects and changing instruments. You can even change the screen size/fretboard/neck. The one noticeable glitch that I found was playing two strings with one finger... it simply can't be done. A small gripe, but perhaps it can be fixed. ****1/2 -- I would give this app 4 1/2 stars --- great for make-shift music making with friends when you're in a lackluster situation.Version: 0

AmazingAbsolutely amazing. Only request is that you could tilt the fretboard on an angle slightly.Version: 0

AwsomeI bought this when it was version 1.0 years ago and its brilliant good to pass time and to everyone moaning about finger size you can adjust everything on the settings and change tunings effects guitars etc 5star easy.Version: 1.3

About as close to the real thingBrilliant app. It's almost easier to play than my real guitar. Wish there was an option for numbered frets for us guitar newbies..Version: 0

Good but not great yetI do not own a guitar nor can i play one but i downloaded this app anyway. It is a pretty good app that does its job but there are a few things i dislike. In fact there is only one thing, the fact that you have to hold the string down to keep the sound playing when you drag down from further up. As soon as you let go of where you are holding the string, the sound stops. I am pretty sure this is not what happens on a real guitar. The sound needs to carry on like when you touch the bottom of the strings, not stop suddenly when you let go of what you are holding, usually to play another note. Not great but still worth the price. I would like an update to fix the problem..Version: 0

The way guitar hero should have beenNot quite the real thing but the quality is far from midi.Version: 0

AwesomeBeen waiting for this ever since 1st saw it on YouTube (was Installer v). There's nothing like this anywhere and once I get the hang of it my iPhone will truely rock! The Dev did an amazing piece of work with one and at 99 cents it can't be beat. Not convinced? Go to YouTube and do a search to see just how well PG can play. You'll be amazed at how others are playing it. 5 Cudos Shinya! (Sep 9/08 - Acadian, from MMI, VxxxStuff, CPF, HoFo, et al).Version: 0

Simply fantasticFor strumming one chord at a time or picking it is so realistic! I can play "Here comes the sun" by the beatles and it sound pretty good (maybe submit it on you tube one day lol). Overall a great app that has impressed everyone I have shown, especially other guitarists. 59p which is the price of chewing gum these days is great value! Well done guys! Looking forward to the updates :).Version: 0

Best 1$Great 100% best 1$ of ur life. only problem is the targets are small.Version: 1.5.2

Best App EverThis app is the best available! The recent update has added so many great great features. Hammer-ons, fret range and effects 'pedal' are all welcome additions. Seriously, for 1 buck 19, what more could you want?!?! Thanks for such a fantastic app..Version: 0

Works very well but...This is really good and produces a really realistic sound when you play a chord. The only problem is the frets are too narrow and close together. If the designer could sacrifice a few closest to the area where you strum, and expand the width of the top three frets it would be much easier to play. The top three frets are the main ones you use to produce standard chords. I have quite small fingers and it was tricky for me even. If you removed the fret closest to the struming area and increased the width of the top 3 frets then it would be easier to play an Em and A, which require you to place two fingers on the same fret next to eachother. Very good though : ).Version: 0

What A Fun And Useful App!I’m a professional guitarist who teaches, and I have toured many countries, so it’s reasonable for the casual observer to assume I play the guitar a lot. It’s also reasonable to say that I think about the guitar a lot. In the same vein, one may correctly assume that I wish I could play the guitar all the time. PocketGuitar allows you to play guitar when one isn’t right next to you. Granted, I would advise against using this - or really, any other app while, say, driving. But if you want to run down an idea while waiting in line at the bank or the coffee shop, you can - thanks to this app. I should also mention that even though I have perfect pitch, PocketGuitar is tremendously useful. Sometimes you need to see the grid, you know? That way, when you get back to a non-virtual instrument, the ideas are fresh in your mind. I wish PocketGuitar had been around when I was daydreaming in high school... actually, no. I’m fine with the way my grades turned out with fewer distractions. Highly recommended!.Version: 1.5.2

Great! Still works great on iPhone 7 PlusI have had this app for many years - iPhone 4, iPhone 5s, and now, on my iPhone 7 Plus - it still works! What I like most is being able to change the tunings to experiment - especially open tunings and even “custom tuning”. With built- in effects, it can real wail (reverb, distortion)! You can hold and bend notes, etc. Great sustain. Fun to jam on - especially when you don’t have a guitar handy. You want chords? Play chords. This is for guitarists - not a “toy”. You have all 6 strings and 7 frets - strum or hammer-on or both. Seems to work well with the larger sized screen of my 7 plus. I hold it just like a guitar. Crazy!.Version: 1.5.2

CoolGreat little app. Hammer-ons are a bit lame. Need to be able to have 1 finger across multiple strings, essential for big hands and chords like F!! Pretty good programming though. Impressive all round..Version: 0

Love it!I've been waiting for this app since I upgraded to 2.0. It's so much better than the 1.1.x versions, and since it's added the automatically pluck feature it officially destroys moo cow's guitarist app. Highly recommended! Im glad to support the developer on this app. Thanks! The most recent update puts moo-cow's overpriced guitarist app to shame. Now pocketguitar can easily scroll to different frets, has better sound samples, and overall executes the strumming and hammer on playing much easier, all for one sixth of the price of guitarist. No one needs the extra guitarist features, although one thing that would be nice to see here would be a recording feature. Thanks again not only for a great app to start, but for the amazing update you just added as well..Version: 0

Wicked.This is a sick app..Version: 0

Really cool little app - just wish it could record!I'm not a serious guitar player but I love this app, it's the one I use the most out of the tons I have on my iPhone. It's fun and relaxing. It's probably too limiting for anyone who wants to really play songs on it since you only have a chunk of the fretboard at a time and it's kind of tricky to play chords, but still a great app with nice sound. *I just wish you could record!* "Guitarist" has the ability to record and a nice interface, but I thought the sound on this app was MUCH better and this has more features. Love the way you can tilt the iPhone to simulate bending a note, shake the iPhone and simulate a whammy bar, and adjust what section of the fretboard you are using, and even adjust string spacing. Lots of fun. I showed this app to an iPhone hater at work (PC guy) and thoroughly enjoyed the look on his face..Version: 0

What I thinkK at first, I didn't like it, because the finger board was to small for me, then I discovered that there is a whole world of settings to play with, so that you can customize everthing ((and I mean everything)) to your liking! even the size of the finger board, whitch was the main thing I didn't like. Now, there are a few things that could be improved, like make the hammerons a little louder, that being said, I still think that this is the best guitar playing app on the Iphon/Ipod touch! TOTALLY WORTH A BUCK, ABSALUTLY LOVE IT!!! I was sceptical about buying it at first, but I am glad I did, I recomend it with 5 stars! Good job on this one guys, its a winner in my book!!! ;).Version: 0

Great and fantastic value, somethings id like to see in an update..1 - Capo support 2 - Because playing chords is difficult on the small screen, i think a great addition would some kind of way to predict what chord you are trying to play, and then automatically play that when your strum, hence leaving out the notes accidently touched. Kudos to the developer for a great app at a great price..Version: 0

DontDon't diss the game practice your song on a real guitar.Version: 1.3

Guitar playaWould be better if there guitar lessons so that more people would use it..Version: 0

Pretty coolI mean I speak for all us non guitar players when I say this is pretty cool... It sounds good and is fun when jammin out to simple stuff just don't expect to be playing any Jack Johnson or something.Version: 0

Unreal I love itI give this 5 out of 5 like most of you I downloaded it and spent the next few hours playing with it. If you play or would like to play or have a intrest in guitar this app is one you will enjoy, can not get over getting it for .99cents. I set it to classical set the first fx to delay and with a little time was playing a pretty nice wildwood flower this app is a ball thank you. To those who have no sound, if you downloaded it straight to you device delete it try downloading it to your pc then sync up it might help, might not but it might. I hope it dose everyone should enjoy this app it is now my all time fav it was Koi Pond but now its POCKET GUITAR !!! . Can not wait for the updates they sound like they will expand this app to great hights. Just tried this if you start this app before the headphones are pluged in on the Ipod Touch you will not have sound you must connect the headphones then start the app try it..Version: 0

Love itI can't belive people are complaning this is the coolest app it's like a real guitar and it's only $1.19 I love every thing about it!! don't listen to any other reviews if u like guitar buy right now$$$$.Version: 0

Pocket guitarIt dosnt matter whether you can play its all about the technology,, thats what makes this application excellent, who else but us i phone users can say they have a guitar phone, make bets with people and whatch them spin out its brilliant.Version: 0

It rules! Stop complainingIt's a great app stop saying it's bad! Cuz it rules! It's a great app and people worked hard on it so yea! It's good anyway if you don't like it now why didn't you read the description? And say I don't like that?? It's worth the money. And some people are saying it's harder then a normal guitar!, well duh it's on a ipod or iPhone! Anyone who complains your a doushbag!.Version: 0

OkayWhen I got this app I was suprised at how gd it was. Only problem is in the middle of when it playing and when u have to scroll up the neck it gets annoying and finger spaces are a bit small but what do you expect over all gd app :D.Version: 0
