✓ Collins Pro German English DictionaryAvoid until there is a bug fix- the latest version refuses to open. Unbelievable that the developers could release an update that renders the app useless. When they fix this then yes my earlier review below will stand: Indispensable ! Don't waste your time with any $4 wordlist! This is a real dictionary and worth the extra. Why? Because a wordlist dictionary won't help you- what you need is a dictionary that shows you how to use the words in actual language applications. This does that. And it's lighter and much quicker than a large Collins Dictionary but has virtually identical definitions and examples (some omissions but they hardly matter). If you are learning German or revising as I am, do yourself a favour and buy this!.Version: 2.3
✓ Good product, turned bad.It saddens me to write badly about this dictionary. It was good, it׳s now nearly useless. No browsing. No fuzzy search. No wild card search. ✓ Mostly ok, but . .For an expensive app this dictionary needs some more work. It doesn't know about the multiple spellings for different tenses, hence a word you lookup may not exist. When clicking through to another word in the definition it always assumes that the lookup is in the alternate language. Gender is never mentioned (huge omission). Under each definition it gives different examples of how the word is used in a short sentence. I showed an example of a use to friend who speaks German fluently and she said the example was wrong. There is no audio pronunciation. It's hard to recommend this resource from such a reputable publisher, but with its faults I still do use it from time to time..Version: 1.5.1
✓ Difficulites with pluralsI don't think the dictionary consistently indicates plurals of compound nouns and presents some noncompound nouns incorrectly. For instance, the entry for "die Fahrkarte" doesn't indicate a plural. One might believe this means the plural is the same if they don't know that "die Karte" is the base noun and that by looking that up you can find the plural "die Karten" and figure that "die Fahrkarten" is the plural of the first word. This one is fairly clear while others -- at least to me -- are not so clear. Also, all nouns I've encountered in which the plural is obtained by adding only an ¨ are presented incorrectly. The ¨ is placed over the wrong vowel. The pronunciation key indicates the correct pronunciation, but it doesn't match the presentation. For instance the dictionary provides "die Tochtër" as the plural of "die Tochter" and "die Brudër" for "der Bruder". I don't believe ë exists in German (could be wrong!), and I think the proper plurals are "die Töchter" and "die Brüder". Some significant errors considering the price of the product and it's generally anticipated function -- to support those learning a language or who don't know it well..Version: 0
✓ MehFor 25 bucks I expected a lot more. My biggest complaint is that there is no way to make vocabulary lists. Most all electronic dictionaries have this function and I certainly would like to see it added. At a bare minimum there should be a way to bookmark words. This dictionary only gives you history which is nit enough. Additionally, audible pronunciation should be a feature given this price point. That all words are hyperlinked is nice, but it's not enough to justify the cost. Layout, design and usability are the merits of this app. Please add more features so I don't feel like such a sucker for shelling out $25! Thank you kindly..Version: 0

✓ Great app, but need to fix the crash and the favoritesBest German dictionary there is. Conjugations, plural, gender are all present and very usable. Most words come with example sentences. Feature wise, I can only nitpick that the favorite list can use a different sorting option. There is no pronunciation, but once you learn a bit of German, it's not a problem really. Having said that, it has happened to me twice that the app would crash on startup. I had to reinstall to get around the problem. If this is solved, this app would be an easy 5 star. Update: There is one other serious performance bug. If you have many favorites (more than 200), the speed & responsiveness of the app become an unbearable drag. Since any serious learner would have many favorites, this is unacceptable. I'm lowering the raring to 3 stars until this is resolved..Version: 2.3
✓ It's still a great appI use this app probably every hour of my waking life....so it's my top app among scores of apps on all my apple devices. Have found the rotation issue disconcerting, but it's a recent problem and i'm sure the developers will fix it soon ... So let's give them a break!.Version: 1.5.3
✓ Terrible ProductAfter a month, I find this dictionary to be awful. It looks like the developer rushed to release the product without any quality control. The pronunciation is terrible; it sounds like computerized sounds rather than a human speaking. Most words are chopped or spoken robotically too fast, and a very large percentage of the words are spelled rather than spoken. For example, when playing the word “ich”, the app spells “i, c, h” instead of speaking/pronouncing the word. I started creating a list with these instances but stopped because they were too many. The French dictionary was much better, but I do not recomend the German version. I’ll try getting a refund..Version: 2.7
✓ BuggyIf you click on a German word (for example ziehen) to get a definition, instead of sending you to the German page, it sends you to the page for the English word "ziehen" (there is no such word) and the program says "No Entries Found.".Version: 0
✓ Verb tables don't workI really wanted a German dictionary that would work independently of the internet, because even though the free Canoo app is great, sometimes if a connection is problematic (as it often is on my university campus) it is good to have an independent resource. I chose this application over the cheaper version because it offered the verb conjugation function, but this function does not work. It jams and comes up with a blank screen. I'm writing this in the hope that the developers will fix the problem and offer a free update..Version: 0
✓ Wrong wordsI bought this because I wanted the convenience of a large dictionary in my pocket and for the first few weeks it was fine. Today I am compiling vocabulary lists for my Integration Course and I find the dictionary's search engine can't differentiate between schön and schon; two very different words. I want the definition of one and it takes me to the other. This is a basic and frankly lazy error by Collins. Fix this please. Since the recent update, this app crashes every day. ✓ Why not do some work Collins?This app is good for basic German needs ie beginner and intermediete. The conjugation of each verb is given for all tenses and moods (which is the reason I bought this app in the first place) as is the gender of nouns. However, words not in everyday use are very often missing making this app useless for anyone interested in German literature. Also the general layout of the app is BAD! Switching from looking up a verb to getting its conjugation is a multi stage affair that requires considerable dexterity, and thus completely anathema to the general iphone ethos. It has not been improved IN ANY WAY since I bought it 2 years ago. Lameness!.Version: 1.4.3

✓ Rotation problem with keyboardI have just purchased this App and its virtually useless due to the face that the key board on the iPad will not rotate upright with the Dictionary. ✓ The Good, the Bad and the UglyAll in all, this is a very good dictionary, with useful translations and sample sentences. But all this is for nothing if the app doesn't launch. ✓ Cross references not workingSome cross references are not working. For example when a German word is tapped for cross referencing, the app switches to the English dictionary and, naturally , does not find the word. ✓ Good updates a missing featureUpdate: The app crushed. I cant simply use it I think I have to delete it and reinstall it. My wish that my favorites won't be deleted. Would kindly synchronize favorites between iOS Devices this way will be more effective. So far the best English German dictionary in iOS I like the new update with ability to save words to favorites and to change the font. ✓ US or UK English?Impressive functions here: search history, dictionary listings, conjugation for verbs; and clear typeface and layout. Some oddities which seem to confuse US and UK English, however: "colour" is bracketed as (US), not "color"; "paediatric" is labelled as US and not "pediatric". "Pavement" becomes "Gehsteig" while only "sidewalk" (US as bracketed) becomes the more usual (?) "Bürgersteig"; and only "sidewalk café" shows the useful "Straßencafé". US/UK editors please note! ✓ New Version A DisasterSince upgrading to the new version of this app I've been very unhappy. It's slow if it starts up at all and I bought the previous version in French, Spanish and German because the interface was beautiful and user friendly and the vocabulary broad. ✓ Update 1.2.4 made things worseIn general it is a very useful tool for students learning German. Definitely one of the better dictionaries out there. However, there are some issues have yet to be fixed: when clicking on a German word found within the definition of another German word, it attempts to look for the word in English. A recently introduced bug with v1.2.4 is that when switching among verb conjugations, the tense default to präsens each time. This is very annoying when you are working with a different tense as for each verb you have to re-select the tense. Please fix these little bugs..Version: 0

✓ A poor performerI got this dictionary intending to use it as my main German dictionary (I use the Collins German-English in paper), but I was severely disappointed by the range of vocabulary. In a quick test of half a dozen random literary words, none rare, it could not find: tumulus, architrave, tumescent or cuneiform (though it found Keilschrift). I'll try the Oxford now. But for a price equivalent to the Oxford Russian Dictionary and the Oxford Italian Dictionary, I expected more..Version: 0

✓ Don't Buy German DictionaryPerhaps I don't know how to use the dictionary, but in German, knowing the gender of a noun is absolutely essential to everything else. But, eg look up "haus" and it gives NO gender. The same for many other words. How can Collins say they understand about languages when they miss out this fundamental information?? ✓ This German Dictionary Is Not So HotFor $25 this should be VERY good. It is barely mediocre. I found this by trying to check a word I thought I knew, Unrat. This occurs in The Blue Angel, the nickname the students give their professor--this is a classic! But this word is NOT in this dictionary. So I got out my paper Collins German dictionary--not unabridged--it had Unrat. I began a side-by-side comparison, and after a couple of dozen extensive tests, I would say this online version has between 2/3 and 70% of the entries of my paper version. For me many of the missing words are important, like Unrat. Whoever did the deleting knows little of German culture. I'm going to try to get my $25 back..Version: 2.4.2
