I have to go mining down the "All Activity" list just to see where my friends have checked in. If none of them are "Nearby", i.e. a few kilometres away, they don't appear on my list. You will want some friends to use it too, as you can compete to see who gets the most check in points and coolest badges and see when they are near you. Make sure you make your checkins friends only though as otherwise you will be announcing to the world when your house is empty! The only problem is sometimes my phone gps places me a short distance from where I actually am and foursquare refuses to acknowledge my checkin as legit. ✓ Cool updateThe update is a step further away from what Foursqaure used to be but it seems more defined now, like it knows what its role is. My only issue is the share button in a place page. Why does it even need to be there? It's all very well to send a message to someone telling them where a place is via Foursquare, but don't make it look so ugly and obvious.
