✓ Notification AnnoyanceThis would be a great app if you were given the option of what kind of notifications you’d like to receive. (You’re only given the option of yes or no for notifications) For example, I would like to get notified of major breaking news ONLY. However the app almost gives me a heart attack several times a day with the notification sound when the stories are not really major news. I have now had to turn off the sound in the Apple notification settings. Sky, when you update this app, please do add the ability to pick “major breaking news only” for notifications, THEN I could turn the sound back on..Version: 4.28

✓ Go to News appMy go to news app, mainly because it is nicely streamlined and unfussy in layout, however...adverts popping up from the bottom of the screen, (and something from the top too, that just got in the way) so ANNOYING. I never look at them (on principle) and just tap that X as fast as I can. I do like the option to have a black or white background, I use the black one. When I can't sleep and I'm idly looking at my phone, it is least likely to disturb my husband because the light isn't so strong. If that option went, I'd be looking around for more news apps. ✓ Pop ups/Diversion To App StoreThis used to be a pretty good news app, but now is inundated with waffling adverts popping up at the bottom of the screen that lead to click bait type links or sites. Recently there have been incidences of the app sending me to the App Store for games. Having to delete the app unfortunately. Would also have appreciated if a video that is within the list of news stories should have a back story to accompany it and not just a sometimes mute video of someone’s cctv or mobile phone footage. ✓ Pop-up Pain & Random Videos !Just as you’re getting into a news article, you scroll down and accidentally touch an image or words, then up pops a sponsored link to another website. You try hitting ‘X’ to cancel, but no ... it often doesn’t work, then opens Safari anyway and takes you off somewhere else. You cancel and return, only for it to happen all over again. VERY irritating! Also the “Top Videos” section midway down ‘Top Stories’ screen: Often just a few word title ... which gives absolutely no indication or context of what you’re watching, or even where or when the video was shot..Version: 4.20

✓ Sky NewsWhen Sky started 30 years ago it presented the news. Now it presents the news with its own opinions and rarely in a balanced way. It seems to be about sensationalism instead of truth. Dermot Murnaghan can be very arrogant in his interviewing, sitting back, arms folded. It’s unprofessional. The only person I find 100% professional is Ian King. He presents a very good programme. He’s incredibly knowledgeable and polite. The media is not very well thought of at the moment and Sky should take the opportunity of turning this around. Brexit seems to have encouraged this reporting behaviour. In a Brexit report, always interview a Leaver and a Remainer be it the public or MPs. The recent Nissan reporting didn’t give a balanced viewpoint. It was heavily on ‘because of Brexit’. It took Andrew Neil to provide the true picture. Many of the public actually believe everything they see/hear. It’s your responsibility to see that you never report anything that doesn’t have absolute fact, not opinions, facts. I doubt my comments will be taken into account but I and others feel very strongly about this and you need to hear honest feedback..Version: 4.13

✓ Video IssuesRather than reviewing the content, as most people appear to do, I’m reviewing the app. It’s pretty good on the whole and I like using it. My primary gripe is that when you maximise a video within a news feed, you can then not rotate the screen to view it in landscape mode. This means that all videos are very small and difficult to see, almost pointless having them available. My second, minor gripe, is that many of the items appear to open a web page within an embedded browser, rather than a news item native to the app. This means it keeps showing me a banner at the top of the page suggesting I open the item in the app... but that’s what I’ve just done?! This isn’t very slick or professional. Come on Sky, with a budget your size I expect better..Version: 4.19.1
✓ Don't botherThis is the first time I've written a review, and I've been through hundreds, if not thousands of apps. This latest incarnation if the sky news apps really annoys me because of its insistence of spamming up my screen with stupid pop-ups and randomly opening app-store on random apps without me even touching the screen. Seriously - I open the app, wait for it to load, then some pop up takes over the screen and launches App Store. But most the time it now just takes up screen space displaying links to inane content instead of the story I'm trying to read. iirc I think I had to put my sky ID and password in to access the news via the sky app, but it now just seems to be like one of those cheap and nasty bug riddled apps that is full of junk ads and mystery redirects. ✓ More and more articles don’t loadSky used to be pretty good at delivering news first. These days they’ve slowed and the likes of google news can do it faster. But my biggest problem with this app is that more and more news articles seem to be in this media rich format, when you click to open an article it takes a few seconds to load with this white background and lots of images. In recent months this format keeps crashing and causing the article to reload. For many articles there is no need to use this format and their standard format which is mostly in plan test loads much faster and never crashes. I wish developers would properly test their apps before release. And I would like to see sky get rid of this stupid media rich format and just focus on keeping it simple. I want articles to load FAST! And I don’t want it to automatically reload if there is a problem loading something in the article. Usually the problem is an advert or something I don’t care about.. the text of the article has loaded perfectly fine and that’s all I want to read...I don’t care about the media which is probably what’s causing the article to keep crashing..Version: 4.20

✓ Still has bugs, typos and unbearable celebrity content being pushed.Despite the constant adverts and all the nonsensical celebrity “News” that Sky pushes.. the biggest problem with this app for me is a bug (or intentional Sky thing) is the fact if I’m playing music and I open the app it immediately stops my music. This is in-spite of the fact no videos are playing and not having clicked on any content. It’s been like this for 1-2 years now and I’m amazed they haven’t even been bothered by it. ✓ Breaking news, not really thoughIt started out as a decent app and once in a while there’s be a breaking news push notification which I found really useful. Unfortunately these notifications are 5/6 times a day now and include such scoops as Nicola Adams having coronavirus and a girl who’s been missing for 6 years still being missing. It’s no longer about breaking news, it’s just push notifications interrupting my day. I’ve had to turn the notifications off as they’re far too frequent and clearly not breaking news which makes the app a bit pointless really. Would be much better if the person sending the pushes was a bit less trigger happy or we could adjust it to suit our own thresholds of what we desperately need to know..Version: 4.19.1
✓ Basic Function FailThe Sky News app has great content, navigation, and presentation—but it doesn’t work. You need to deliver on the basic functions, like getting the sound and video synchronized! Your articles like with most mainstream media have set to instil further fear and anxiety in people. Your titles for articles have been misleading. You have repeatedly made some articles breaking news but actually are just re-hashing a sentence or a word or indeed nothing that I can see has changed. ✓ IrresponsibleIn these awful times of Covid 19 it sickens me to read so many articles pre-empting every government announcement and publishing so much criticism ahead of the government having a chance to properly present and explain their thinking first. The second guesses are sometimes wrong anyway. It’s always easy for journalists to find so called experts to give negative opinions, often politically driven when you look a bit deeper into the background of the opinion. I need the news to be reported AFTER it has happened, not before. I feel stressed when reading Sky News via the App rather than informed. It’s as if Sky is desperate to find any news just to fill the space. Sadly it’s all negative with very little space given to all the positive community spirit of the average household. The media, including Sky are making the biggest contribution to confusion and uncertainty. These are unique times and they require responsible journalism and Sky is not achieving that at all via the App or with the ridiculously pointed questions by Beth Rigby on the daily briefing. ✓ A bit too opinion ledI just want to read the news, I think sometimes the stories have personal views of the journalist and these aren’t the “opinion” features/stories that you also report. The headline is often misleading, and when you read down further and find quotes, the report is not reported accurately, opinion kicks in again. ✓ Could be betterThe app is quite easy to use. Although you are currently seeing ads all the time and often ads trying to get people to get the app that they are using to see the news anyway which is stupid. If you are using the app to check sky news stories you don’t need adds for the app as you already are using it. On live feeds items that have happened earlier in the day or week are pushed to the front again for no reason, and you can scroll down and see original posting. Spelling mistakes are getting more common, I would have thought they would have spell checker systems in place. When you play a video the first few 10 seconds or so are a blur and eventually it will go clear so you can see the video. Does not matter is on high speed Wi-Fi or using 5G or 4G. On live tv they always repeat the same video footage saying it’s just come in or it’s new when you have seen it half a dozen times already. Adverts at the bottom of the page often have no relevance whatsoever to the picture being used and often if it’s selling a product that item is not actually being sold, pictures only there to grab attention. These are a plenty but the most annoying thing is the way that they are scattered throughout the actual stories. Not at the side of, but constantly between the lines of each story you read. The implication was that Charles inexplicably snubbed the US Vice President, we only guess why. The undeniable impression created was that Charles was taking some moral stance against the US administration. No context was provided by Sky, just the standalone video. However, as you well know, they had met earlier and shaken hands so your item took a piece of non-news and spat it out as some form of actual news. I have for many years relied on Sky as an authoritative source of news...no more. I am disgusted and now see your editorial oversight as weak and your ‘journalism’ as gutter. ✓ LayoutThe layout has changed and I can't finish reading articles because there is a big advert that either cannot be closed or just doesn't move. Using sticky MPUs might be a solution or not covering text itself. I log on to read the news several times a day and this new annoyance is making me consider migrating elsewhere as I simply cannot read it on Sky News. Your quiz was also not working this week. It stopped after question 1 due to a similar issue. Either your coding team aren't as good as they used to be or the prospect of plastering ads all over the news has become to hard to resist. ✓ Fake newsWatching sky news since Ukraine conflict makes me laugh, having lived in Ukraine and owning a home there I know what is going on and the way you spin the news is so fake and unreal it’s astonishing that you can get away with it. One example recent report of mass grave in east Ukraine - this is known to be the cities grave yard ! Do you really think Russian have time to dig graves and place bodies and then write numbers on each grave ! Common guys . ✓ Object lesson in how not to do itThe concept is brilliant. Short, summarised stories that allow the user to quickly get the main detail about the current key stories. For a long time it was the go to news app. The implementation has got worse with every update for a while now. They introduced annoying slide over adverts which would pop up from the bottom of the screen as soon as you scrolled upwards. Now they’ve stopped bothering to wait for the scroll and pop them up as soon as you tap into a story. We’re not talking targeted advertising here. We’re talking adverts for the kind of dross click bait ‘you’ll never believe how she looks now’ rubbish that fills your Facebook feed. It’s a shame. They have to make money of course, especially with everyone ditching tv packages in favour of Netflix, but this is not the way. Finally giving up on it and deleting..Version: 4.7.2

✓ I don’t know what happened…The Sky News app on AppleTV has a major glitch: when you open the app, it goes to an advertisement (usually something local) and then , once the add has finished, it returns to the initial screen displaying the options to go live or select a report. ✓ Broken on AppleTV 4kThis app is completely broken on the Apple TV. I used to watch regularly. Both clips and Live. It was great! But they have added targeted ads. US ads that appear to be regional. Now, I don’t begrudge the ads. I consume and Sky needs revenue to operate. Fair enough. BUT, the ads are breaking the app. In most cases, the ad plays and then goes back to the home screen without ever starting the content. It’s an endless loop. In a few cases, I can hear the news segment playing under the ad. Whatever the cause, the app is broken since the actual content is never delivered. Deleted on ATV. ✓ Used to be goodOnce this was a good app with news and breaking news alerts. Now it’s just about selling sky. The news alerts have gone from been a good thing to total rubbish. Mostly they are not breaking news but adverts for a sky news opinion piece. I have got sick of been woken up in the morning by the sky news breaking news alert dead on 7am to find that the breaking news is either a sky news opinion piece, so not breaking news at all, or a rehash of a story from yesterday or something trivial. It’s rarely an important news story which warrants immediate attention. Clearly, someone at sky has a news alert target to meet no matter how trivial the story. These constant alerts are clearly about just pushing app use rather than providing a decent function. I have got so fed up of this I have now deleted the app..Version: 4.18

✓ Filter option ?1. It’s a bit to graphics heavy. Streamline it. 2. Put a filter/ignore option on for Pete’s sake. The Top Stories section which is the default is absolutely full of the Queens death with not a single story that isn’t related to her passing. I mean come on … I am a supporter of the monarchy but this is just ridiculous, the entire page, 29 news stories and 11 video sections, is about the Queen. Are there no other more important top news stories in the entire world for the last few days? Nothing ? People dying, wars, medical breakthroughs ? How about a bit of balance here! We need to be able to ignore topics so it filters them out of Top News so we’re getting a balanced view. Even World News section has the top 5 stories about the Queen before you get to an important story, North Korea’s decision to pre-emptively strike is far more news worthy. Realistically, as it stands today, World News should be Top News, with one or two stories about the Queen, and ALL the other 27 Queen stories should be put in a dedicated Monarchy/Queens passing section. Don’t get me wrong, I am absolutely a supporter of the monarchy, always have been, always will be, but this is overkill. It’s way too much. It’s on tv, it’s in the papers, it’s across all the news apps, wind it in, it’s not right to flood this across the default story section on your app..Version: 4.32.1
✓ Terrible, atrocious, uninformative, and uselessSpelling atrocious, for journalists you’d think the one of the things they should be good at is spelling, grammatical errors almost daily. Push notifications about stories that haven’t even appeared as stories on the app, random news videos that are just pure nonsense and have no examination whatsoever to what they are about, a thirty second clip about something that provides no actual detail, nor further information, just a random clip! Quite possibly the worst news app I have ever downloaded, god knows why I still have it on my phone after so long! And now they’ve added the opinion article, where basically some biast journalist gives you their own opinion on something which is 9 times out of ten absolute garbage!.Version: 4.13.1
✓ Changed back for the betterWell thankyou Sky for listening to the various reviewers, including myself who asked for the black background choice, I'm very pleased it's back & it's so much better than the White only background you did have. One thing the adverts are pretty annoying, suppose I will have to live with that though, at least as I have already said the background colour choice is back thanks UPDATE 1/9/23 once again the annoying adverts are back in force and so annoying, why are they so obtrusive when reading a news article, there’s no need for all of these inane &very boring adverts!.Version: 4.39

✓ Dark modeDark mode is a great feature but I’ve found that not all news item use the colour scheme. When you read some story’s the page is white. These story’s tend to be feature items (for example there is a piece on bounty hunters currently in the top stories section)rather than the current news. However, as they are in the top stories section it’s not obvious before you read it. Also the screen is all white when the app starts m, before switching to dark mode. When reading in a dark room, this is initially blinding and illuminates the room. It would be better if it defaulted to start with black and then switch to white if dark mode is off..Version: 4.29
