✓ Good but has some issuesHad this app for several years. The latest couple of updates seem to have introduced new issues. Links in the dictionary are now broken in some cases. E.g. Where it links to a perfective of a verb and two are suggested, the app appears to search for both terms in one search and hence finds nothing. Doing a manual search for either word individually gets the result. When you use the X in the search box to clear it, the app focus jumps away. ✓ Preferred the previous versionI think the Collins dictionary is the best for Polish because it has a usefully broad vocabulary. Some of the links which used to exist no longer work e.g. between verb and perfective. It would also be useful to have a pronunciation guide, such as in the Spanish-English dictionary. Even if you know the Polish pronunciation rules, there are some words which seem impossible to pronounce and I’m sure that’s true for Poles learning English too..Dannyin ReacgVersion: 10.0.11

✓ Great opportunity missedThis is a good dictionary, based on Collins print version. However theconversion into an electronic version could be so much better. It should be possible to highlight words within an entry and go to the entry for that word. This is sometimes possible, but not always. When two options are given, eg perfective and imperfective options, highlighting only one is not possible, so there is no entry to link to. They could have allowed linking from Polish base words (eg brać) to related words dobrać, dobireać, nabrać, nabierać etc. They haven't. It's a pity you can't browse through the dictionary alphabetically..Andrew WRVersion: 8.2.2

✓ Bad supportThis was good, but now has strange and irritating behaviors. I wrote a bug report (clearly and politely!) to the support address and their staff wrote a defensive reply about how they “cannot consider each user's comments and suggestions.” Obviously you don’t do whatever a user tells you to do, but if you’re not a loser and a slacker, you will at least try to determine if there is a bug or not before insulting the customer. The defect in question is it triggers “word of the day” setup behaviors every time the app is unminimized, and it makes it a pain to look up multiple words (a common scenario!) and I happen to know as an iOS developer that it’s easy and simple to fix. It’s easy and simple to know if the app is being launched via notification or not. Easy and simple, unless you’re a slacker whose priority is to save face and avoid work. I have also ran into multiple mistranslations and one (a translation for “seizure” in a medical context) actually caused some trouble in an emergency situation. This is the fault of the dictionary authors at Collins and not the ISV, but it’s a problem with the product either way..Joe-Dan CVersion: 10.0.11

✓ A step backwards[I've only two changes to make to the review I wrote in January 2015 (below). Firstly, I didn't intend to rate the app with only 1 star - which is unfair - so I've changed my rating to 3 stars. Secondly, the constant invitations to rate the dictionary with 5 stars is irritating. Earlier versions would have merited 5 stars but the changes made a couple of years ago reduced the quality of the app.] I'm afraid I have to echo the comments made by the previous reviewers of this version. This was once a good product, but has been made much less useful by a botched attempt to 'improve' the search facilities. Searches that were once quick are now slow. The easy browsing facilities have been ruined: in the previous version words adjacent to the target word were displayed in alphetical order (useful for learning related words) and it was easy to move back and forth through previously looked-up words - most of this has all been lost. This is such pity, because - although not without its flaws - the content of dictionary is the best I've come across for a native English speaker learning Polish, with declensions and conjugations generally shown in enough detail to deduce the full versions. It would have been more useful to employ lexicographers to improve the content than pay programmers to mess up the user interface..Nogbad 2Version: 8.2.2

✓ Disappointing versus other Collins dictionariesI sought a premium offline dictionary for Polish-English and, after enjoying the Collins offering in French, Italian & German, I hoped this one might follow the same template. Sadly not. My main complaint is that it doesn’t have the same conjugation feature that makes the others so useful. Secondly, the other dictionaries allow scrolling through entries as you might leaf the pages of a dictionary. It is annoying that this app doesn’t give you the same freedom. Additionally, whilst I like the idea of regular prompts designed to explore the language, the “word of the day” is a half-baked effort. I find it disappointing to get prompted on words that are identical to the English translation. The menu panel gives the impression of many features but I think the developers should be satisfied when they have done the basics right - the games should go elsewhere (for free).
