✓ DisappointingJust downloaded this expecting a decent dictionary and thesaurus (hardly a complicated idea for an app), paid to remove the ads and found it doesn't have a proper thesaurus and the interface is horrible. Can't seem to get rid of the "word of the day" which feels intrusive. Even the free Thesaurus App is better than this. It has a "dark theme" which is much easier on the eyes. Hopefully you might consider revising some of these aspects. I'm going to u install & look for another dictionary app now..Mr-willberforceVersion: 10.0.13

✓ Very Good - butFor some reason I expected an Australian oriented dictionary. But - to be unfortunately. Very much a USA oriented view of the English language. The various word e.g are very frustrating due to the large amount of words that never appear in Australia's version of English. ✓ Enough already...I wanted to give this app four stars for overall quality. Instead, I find myself giving it one with the wish I could give it none. Every time I open this app I am prodded to give them 5 stars. Obnoxious. The app doesn't even recall where I left off: dictionary or thesaurus. Great programming. They are so intent on shoving "new words" into the lexicon that they forgot all about the wonderful list of words that need more using. Elegant and eloquent words. But, if they want to reinforce speaking like trash, well they're on the right track. How tragically hip. English used to be a magnificent language, but now that organizations/apps like you and yours keep giving affirmation to the dumbing down of our language, we are being reduced to a bunch of emojis. ✓ First ‘word of the day’ was a man’s last nameIt was 3 stars and I have downgraded it to 1 and I am deleting this app off my iPad because your opened first page is positively hideous. Really? Your very first Word of the Day is a man’s last name? Unimpressed - not much to define there. And the first word of the day is unchanged. Colouring - of an awful light blue shade of background and white is hideous and distracting and the page doesn’t fit the screen. I’m hoping now that I purchased ad free and rated this - these obnoxious boxes will disappear because I can’t close them or ignore them because they are so large. Guess what - They don’t disappear. ✓ Disappointed in the Recent UpateI have greatly enjoyed using this app for over 8 years, being able to access it from anywhere at any time without having to depend on the Internet or wi-fi. The word games provide an excellent means of learning new words and keeping current with changes to familiar words. Being able to check spelling and definitions of words during a game has been helpful. The pronunciation feature is a plus, enabling me to check a pronunciation "on the fly." However, with the recent update, I can no longer access the dictionary or any of its wonderful components without access to the Internet, which is disappointing, as sometimes the Internet is blocked at some locations or is simply not available. I am disappointed that you have chosen to change your app so that it, in essence, denies access to users who may not have or cannot access the Internet. ✓ Very out of dateI use a dictionary to find the meaning of words I’ve not seen or heard before. This edition of a dictionary has none of the more recent vocabulary, whether street lingo, social newbies, or technical terms. Also no commonly used foreign words sprinkled within our English. I’ve tried this app about a dozen times and rarely found it useful. I think it came with my iPhone, so it would be Apple that needs to upgrade this embarrassingly useless app. Recently, I started allowing ‘word of the day’ notifications. Big mistake. Words chosen, said to be at random, are words an average, but well educated, person would seldom need. Today’s was a New Zealand lizard! Really? Think I’ll need that one soon? Yet, as said earlier, I read often. Words from France, Germany, etc come up Freqently. Yet those words can’t be found without paying for your ‘Translate’ version. One can find them via a Google or Yahoo search! And at no cost. I’m finding your app less and less worthy. In fact I just took away one star from my earlier rating and plan to turn off your ‘Word of the Day.’ Overall, this app is not useful. ✓ Not what I expectedThe name on this App is Advanced English and so I expected to find most of the words not to be ones that I use in everyday conversation. ✓ Oxford English DictionaryI paid quite a bit of money for this App and I’m still flooded with advertisements. They now want me to pay more money to get rid of the advertisements. I still find words that are missing from this dictionary and their word of the day seems to be aimed at 5 year olds. I’m getting use to this update and would have given it an additional star except that it keep sending me the same update word when I fire up my screen, but the wor never changes from “winter pea” yet the real update does change. ✓ Not great; a printed dictionary has more lifeThis app isn’t great. Its ads impede most of the app’s functions, I think, and of course users can opt to purchase the full version to remove those pesky ads. However before I buy an app, I’d like to at least see how well it works, or in this case, how well it may serve my needs. And this just doesn’t measure up. I’ve tried using this on multiple occasions but each time I search for a word’s definition or synonym, the app lags as both it & I wait for an annoying ad to load. Several times the app has kicked me out completely or frozen, which definitely defeats the app’s purpose. I’m not looking for an app that takes more time to search for a word/offer synonyms than it takes for me to do the legwork on my own. At this point, I’d rather search for the word myself and figure out the synonyms on my own, or by using another app. It’s far too frustrating and not at all worthwhile. ✓ Limited and very midSeems like these apps *updated/New* versions have a great Thing going & then take more and more away. It was nice when there was customer service that was humane and decent. This dictionary however DOES have words in it, and definitions. It does have a search bar for words you want to look up. ✓ Where’s the thesaurus?I downloaded this app for the thesaurus function but that apparently doesn’t exist in this app regardless of the name. Instead, it offers standard dictionary definitions and maybe one or two related words. Additionally, it doesn’t recognize a lot of relatively unchallenging words as being legitimate words. ✓ Weird at timesI’m not keen about learning abbreviations for organisations. What is really annoying is that sometimes meanings are missing. “Dawn” is stated only as a verb, not the noun.
