ESV Bible for Negative User Reviews

Notes from ESV Study + did not transferI called and emailed them regarding this problem and I have not heard from them since. 3 years of notes from ESV Study + is supposed to sync and transfer to the new ESV app when you first it but it didn’t. Disappointing.Version: 3.4.9

Even though I love this app..........the update seems to have several issues where the app crashes and performs poorly. Crashes on 'add a note'. Opens Genesis 1 when trying to select other books. Scrolling through the books menu does not allow me to easily select the book of Revelation and it's chapters. I do wish I hadn't updated as my older version worked perfectly..Version: 2.0

Resources are not as accessibleIn landscape the larger resource maps and charts are on too small of a window and can't be used. Can you make it so the resource window can expand to the whole screen or the Bible can also take up the whole screen in landscape as well with an adjustable parallel windows in Landscape view? Also there is no way to get to the resources from the page view. Great first try. Thanks.Version: 3.0

Keeps crashingIt keeps shutting off and crashing, please fix this issue..Version: 3.3.3

Multiple things need fixingThe app needs to be regularly maintained, given the amount of time that’s passing between each update. I love the app, but it’d be nice to see more attention paid to the development. A few issues: - Bookmarks don’t sync between the mobile and online apps (why this isn’t a feature I’m not sure, having continuity between them should be a given) - Copy and paste settings are failing on online application (even when settings have been unchecked, their corresponding setting still applies to the verses when they’re pasted) - Library items are not properly downloading and loading on mobile devices - Notes on the online application are only available when going to the user menu (I’d like to see them available when the “Notes” button is clicked, instead of only having them available when I’m on a certain passage of Scripture - Highlighting on the mobile app is a serious eye sore. Please make it so that it looks like the online application version of highlighting with multiple color options. When I’m highlight a verse in real life, I’m not highlighting the space surrounding the text, only the text itself. This sort of highlight should be on the mobile app..Version: 4.0

Love it but...This is such an important app for me from day to day, privately and for ministry but it would be so amazing if when using it on my iPad Pro (Which I do most often) I could use the Apple Pencil with it. Please nice people at Crossway would you at least consider this for the next update? Many Thanks!.Version: 3.3.3

The functionality of the search feature has been gutted with the latest update.I am disappointed with this latest update. My scripture search history is no longer being saved, so I am no longer able to see past searches that I have made. Also, now when I click on a reference from the scripture search, and then go back to the search, it has deleted even the current search, so I then have to search the term again and then scroll all the way through every reference again to go to the next reference in the search. This latest update has completely gutted the functionality of the search feature. Very disappointing..Version: 5.0.4

Finding it hard to navigate-daily reading plansI have tried my hardest to navigate easily from page to page, but it’s proven difficult. For example, there does not appear to be an option on my iPad to read a plan then go back to the same plan the next day easily without having to scroll through every other plan first. I have tried to save my current plan in the favourites tool option but it does not appear to work. I hope this issue can be resolved soon, it will save so much time. Quite disappointed, hence the low amount of stars..Version: 3.4.9

Don’t use the reading plansFirst, this works well as a bible. The highlights and notes are saved on your account and go with you when you change devices. The main problem is with the reading plans. This past year I’ve read through the Bible using the Chronological plan. Several times during the year the plan was revised and I had to find passages I’d “misses” and read them. (Ex. the whole book of job moved) The kicker was today, December 20, the plan changed again and all the progress was lost. I can figure out manually and by memory what I haven’t read yet and put my own plan together for the last twelve days of the year, but it’s frustrating to need to do that so near the end. The developers need to allow a reading plan to be frozen once a reader has subscribed. That way they can make improvements for new readers without disrupting those already on the plan..Version: 3.5

Search functionality downgradedThe ESV app has been great and I have used it for years. The most recent update has reduced search functionality. You used to be able to do a search and click into one of the verses and then go back to the search results. Now there is no way to go back to the search results. You don’t even see a search history when you go into search again and so you have to type your search term again and then scroll through all the results again to find where you were. Please return the previous functionality..Version: 5.0.7

Crashing!I love this app and I recommend it to everyone I know!! BUT not it crashes every time I open it and i’m too scared to re-download is I have hundreds of notes in it and I don’t think they will be saved (despite having an account). I use this app every single day and 24 hours without it is really frustrating!!!.Version: 3.3.3

I liked the old version better- please go back!I’d like to leave a review because I’m sure I’m not the only one having this issue. Previously when searching for a word or scripture reference in the search tool you could click on one of the results and then go back to the search tool and still see the list either of the scripture results or at least see a history of what had been searched so you could easily click on it and get the list of results again. This feature is sadly gone. Now you have to type the search again and scroll through and try to find where you left off. Please go back if possible!! There do seem to be other nice improvements to the app and I thoroughly enjoy using it and have always recommended it for it’s useful search tool but probably won’t be as eagerly now that it’s changed. Thank you for considering!.Version: 5.0.7

UI isn’t greatEver since the most recent update, the UI has been incredibly difficult to manoeuvre. 1. When you pull up the study Bible, you can’t scale it down - it only clicks halfway which is really annoying 2. The text doesn’t track with the study Bible when you use the two at the same time 3. The verses sometimes don’t appear when you click on them. The Bible component is great, but the rest isn’t anymore 😔 Please revert to the old UI!.Version: 3.4.9

Bug: Can't purchase subscription and iPad layoutI like all the content updates. The only problem is that I can't purchase them. I keep getting an error when trying to subscribe through the iPad app. Additionally, I'd like to be able to read the Bible in landscape mode without seeing the other tools and books on the right-hand side. There used to be an option to hide it. It's a problem when using multi-tasking on my iPad, b/c the text becomes really small when I have two apps open in split screen mode. It's enough of a problem that I've stopped using this app (for now)..Version: 5.0.6

Review of paid Crossway ESV versionPros: - browsing for a book or chapter is very easy, as is searching for an unknown verse with key words Cons: - there is no highlight color flexibility. It's yellow or yellow (I have the online ESV study bible and value it's multiple highlight colors) - I was most disappointed with the "Favorites" feature. There is only one folder. The flexibility offered (delete or re-order) is of limited value. - In the sales blurb it says: "Manage. Add, delete or reorder your verse favorites. Save your own user defined preferences" I hoped this meant flexibility with the Favorites feature. It doesn't. At this point I would stay with the free version. But, as long time users of the online ESV study Bible would know - Crossway released a major upgrade a year ago which had awesome features. I hope they add features of value to this. In particular, if there was an ability to add folders and sub-folders to the favorites feature this app would be priceless. Why? Imagine adding a folder for each book you are reading, or sermon series you are listening to, or even theology topic. Then add a sub-folder for each chapter or sermon. Then add verses as you read or listen. Then revise at will. This would be awesome. With more development this could be an indispensable application. At present there is little of added value over the free version. AndrewR of Sydney.Version: 0

The Update Crashes Repeatedly and...I listened to the chronological plan every day and was in Jeremiah 34 before the update. After the update the reading plan reset. As I went through the new chronological plan to check off the days up to where I was I noticed that the reading plan is in a very strange layout. (You can do a chronology based on the dating of the text itself or on the events in the text.) There’s nothing chronological about this update. I tried to continue listening through Jeremiah but it only reads from the updated plan. There is no longer a text identifier on the play consul. There are some intriguing new reading plans but I loved the previous chronological plan. Hopefully Crossway will fix and change this. Without it I don’t have a use for the app..Version: 3.4

Latest Update no better than the last! This app used to work well. Since the latest update, every time I now open the app it starts with a black screen. I have to then clear the app & then I have to select everything again. The app has now been updated. This time we get a white screen every time we go to Every Day in the Word..Version: 3.3.3

ReviewApp can not jump to different books when trying to listen to different sections during same listening session I phoned Crossway to report problem but they have not corrected problem. I now use gateway and it works fine. The people at crossway must not use their own app Signed by a disappointed user.Version: 3.3.3

Doesn’t work on iPad in split screen viewGreat app, but after I updated to iOS 11 I couldn’t open the app in split screen view. It kept freezing and sometimes forced the iPad to restart itself. Please fix..Version: 3.3.3

Totally lacking in instructionCan't recommend this. Looks promising but isn't. There's no concrete instruction on how to use the app at all. The links tell you what's in it but not how to use it at all. I paid for this to have study notes with the text. Since the updated version, no study notes, no guidance in how to access them. Where are they? No answer. Links to website tell you nothing, just that study notes are available via an in-app store. What "in-app store"?? I already bought this at full price several years ago! And no access to in-app store without opening an account it looks like. The online video is equally useless, just a demo of what is in it - no info on how to get to any of the promised material. What has happened to the one I bought? I have less now than I paid for, with no information to help sort this out (FAQs are not a substitute for actual guidance.) Just lots of promo to sell it, nothing to guide your usage or answer questions. I paid print book money type sums for a digitised version but now they changed it and changed my access to when & what they want. Buy the print version to guarantee you'll have it as a proper book in the long term..Version: 3.2

It does the jobDid you remove landscape mode? Screen orientation doesn't work anymore?.Version: 3.4.6

Text doesn’t fit screenI like the ESV Bible and the resources available but I’m currently in a reading plan on my iPhone 7 and the paragraphing appears to be wider than my screen. I can’t adjust this. Please fix in next update..Version: 4.0

Good features, inconsistent performanceGreat features, love all the reading plans, and having the ESV study notes there, as well as options to read it in reader version, etc. Cons: this is a glitchy app. It seems like every 6 months or so there is a major glitch that really affects performance. Also, I agree with the other reviewer that the audio feature doesn’t work with the reading plans, which is a huge downer, especially since there are other bible apps that do this well. I use this as my sole bible app, however, which these issues could get resolved as it would make my reading experience a little easier..Version: 3.3.3

No StarsWhy change a good thing? The latest update has completely changed the layout n the iPad and not for the better. This is just a case of change for change sake. And why do we now need to create an account - there is no need to impose that. Having used this App for a long time I will now be deleting it and using another one..Version: 5.0.0

Falls short of the original ESV Study appI do love the look of the new app, but where it surpasses other Bible apps in design it falls short in usability. I don't like how the reference passages pop up in a little window above the reference marker and that there is no option to view it in full size. Also, as another reviewer mentioned, there's no option to quickly and easily go back to the previous verse you were looking at (and the one before that, and the one before that, etc.). You have to go through the navigation panel at the top each time. Navigation was one thing the original ESV Study Bible app did beautifully and seamlessly. It was really an intuitive design perfect for studying. Also, the commentary of the Study Bible app is not included in this one, which leaves me confused as to why they said they were replacing the original app with this one? Also, I really don't get the reading plans layout (referring to 'Daily Light on the Daily Path' plan). Why are the verses in that order? Why are they all jumbled together as if they belong to one passage? Why are some verses repeated a few times? There really needs to be a "How To" section for the reading plans..Version: 3.2

NEEDS MORE WORKThis app has great potential. At the moment however, its parts are not integrated. You can't go easily from a daily devotional back to bible reading without having to re-navigate to where you left off - there's no direct link. The daily devotional itself doesn't keep itself updated to the last one read: it has to be re-navigated from the beginning - and internally it's a shambles. Finally, the ESV Study Bible app (which was paid for) has been discontinued (replaced by this new ESV app), but the Study Bible features are not at all integrated in the new app. Overall, very disappointing at present, but it will be great once its shortcomings are rectified..Version: 3.2

New ESV Bible appDifficulty in finding library and study notes on iPhone 6. Disappointed in the access. The ESV study provides more. Waste of money and resources.Version: 3.2

GoodSo far this app is good. I tried to provide feedback through the app but it doesn't even pre fill an email address to send to. Notes could be much, much better. Also. They need to give the user more options in highlighting colours. Underlining in various colours would be nice too. They can learn a lot from You Version and make a good app great! I really appreciate the fact that they put Christ's words in red in ESV. Please add more colours, people want to personalize their Bibles..Version: 3.2

Bible text and notes fabulous, poor add-onsI have used this app for many years; I love the clear uncluttered reading interface, the ease with which you can access notes and then return to the passage you were reading, even if you have moved several steps along the way. The integration with the study Bible is seamless and easy to read. Highlighting notes is simple although it would be great to have different colour options to be able to sort highlights to add a personal touch. The major fall down is notes. They have always been questionable on an iPhone, I don’t know about other platforms. Going in and editing a note causes the page to jump back to the top, meaning you can’t actually see the bottom of the page where you are editing. Most recently this happens even when first opening the note. The edit bar is visible in sporadic flashes and it is impossible to type or edit anything because the page jumps everyone you enter a character. I have had email correspondence about this several years ago and taken time to video what was happening and yet it has got worse not better. Better to remove the feature altogether than have one that is unworkable. I often like to go back and link or edit notes but this is now impossible..Version: 4.2.2

Why I’m leaving…I’ve used this app for seven years now. I have especially liked the convenience of being able to seamlessly switch between listening and reading on it. This was not without its glitches. The audio has occasionally repeated a just-read section for no reason, but will then continue on. This latest iteration (2-weeks ago) is disappointing. The cross-reference is now more limited and awkward to use. It used to open the referenced verse in a sub-window, which was scrollable, without leaving the current one. No more. The new version will no longer allow me to highlight or make notes unless I create an account. I don’t see why a Bible-app needs my personal info, unless they wish to sell it. Based on my experience, it’s best to limit such exposure to those who NEED to know. So, I’m now looking for a new Bible app. I doubt I shall be the only one..Version: 5.0.6

Latest update is not working iOS 12.1.4Just updated the app and now it no longer opens properly - splash screen appears and then disappears — and though it looks like the app is running in the background it just will not come to the front. Disappointing... not the first time we’ve had this problem... more testing required perhaps ?.Version: 3.4.7

Great appWonderful app, but could be doing with an upgrade for the iPhone X - would love to see the full screen used.Version: 3.3.3

No bad I guess no the best but................................menNot bad I guess but men are pretty cool.Version: 3.5.1

Okay butLike it’s good but it doesn’t even support the iPhone X screen size, over a year later. Also my bookmarks don’t show up on the site on my laptop. Needs updating. iPhone X screen size is a must!!!.Version: 3.3.3

Bugs introducedUsed to be great, but the latest updates dumped my almost-complete Chronological Reading Plan. Also, the reading plan now doesn't allow the audio reader to work. It continually crashes when I change between the audio reader and the reading plan, and the interface for reading at ones own pace is clunky. A great example of trying to fix something that wasn't broken!.Version: 3.4

Preferred the older appThe old ESV Study Bible was much easier to use. Is the old ESV Study Bible app still available for downloading..Version: 4.2.7

Please fixThe newest update won't open on my iPod or my iPad 2. Please, we use this app everyday. Really hoping there's a bug fix on the way..Version: 1.8

Currently not workingWhen I go to any reading plan and try to read the daily reading, it doesn’t take me to that reading.Version: 3.4.8

Needs to be more like the web browser versionLovely translation, accessible Bible app. Though I think it would benefit greatly with a redesign. 1. Have the option for the commentary resources to be presented alongside the text 2. Change the bible reading plans so that they are saved to the user and can be opened from there. I don’t want to have to scroll through all the available plans to find the one that I am using!.Version: 3.4.9

Over a year and still not updated for new screen sizesThe iPhone X has been out for a year now, and this app still hasn’t been updated for its screen size - never mind the 3 new phones released last week.Version: 3.3.3

Weak supportThe ESV app was great in the early years. Seems, as of late that it isn’t getting much attention from developers. Couple problems have persisted for more than a year. These two changes having to do with the Bible reading plan interface would greatly improve this app for daily users. One, the Bible reading plan of choice has to be reopened and reselected from a scrolling list of plans every day, and, even if you are moving around in and out of it on the day of use. Two, if you’re in a reading plan and go to use audio, the audio scrolling will not maintain the reading plan sequence. Instead it reverts to the book of the Bible of which that chapter is a part. It would be an improvement if audio would scroll through the entire reading plan for the day, moving seamlessly through each chapter selection..Version: 3.3.3

Disappointing updateNewest update disappointment I like to stand my iPad up (horizontally) to read hands free. The new changes to the app now block the right half of the screen with things I don’t want to see when reading horizontally. I don’t want to have to hold my iPad vertically to read, but I want the text to fill the screen. This new version/update makes reading more difficult and less enjoyable. Besides this, there seems to be only 2 font sizes available now- small and smaller. As much as I love this app, it is becoming less useful and will soon have to be replaced with a Bible that has better formatting and a better reading experience (My old review) I love the ESV and this app is great; it is easy to use. It seems, though, that something changed with the optional font size in the settings. It used to be that “Extra Large” was indeed large, and very easy to read. Now though , “Extra Large” isn’t large at all, it is really just an average size font like you’d find as a default in most apps with text. I really liked the extra large font. Since the screen cannot be zoomed while reading, the current largest font size is disappointing since it is so small. As I say, something changed in an update, probably in the last several months, but I don’t know when. I love the app, but need to wear strong glasses to see it..Version: 5.0.6

Needs fixingI love having the ESV bible app, however have been disappointed to find the ends of verses missing multiple times. Please fix these problems..Version: 3.4.9

Look is nice but reading plan is frustratingAs others report, the look of the interface is nice. You can also listen along. I use the search often, though I wish a cursor showed up when you click the search field. Instead you have to click and start typing whilst hoping you clicked the search field. However, the reading plan section needs an UPDATE! It seems to reset each day. I started a reading plan Jan 1 and set my preferences, but every day I go to the reading plan and it asks me to choose which plan and it doesn’t remember what day I’m on (not to mention what I’ve already read. ) I am reverting to a paper plan to read thru the Bible this year. :(.Version: 3.3.3

ESV Instance Mocks Our Lord, our GodThis ESV instance mocks our Lord, our God. ESV wry wrongly does not capitalize the pronouns of Our Lord nor of our God. Indeed, this instance mocks and ridicules Christ our Lord and the Father and the Holy Spirit of the reverence due Them, together and independent. John 6:28-30 ~ ESV [28] Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” [29] Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” [30] So they said to him, “Then what sign do you do, that we may see and believe you? What work do you perform? _________________ It is appalling that the pronouns of Christ or our Lord God or the Holy Spirit are not initial caps. This proclaims to and leads the reader tha irreverent and irresponsible disposition to our Lord in that He is not to receive the full Dignity and Honor due His Divine Person. _________________ Proper and reverent respect and honor as follows: John 6:28-30 ~ [28] Then they said to Him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” [29] Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.” [30] So they said to Him, “Then what sign do You do, that we may see and believe You? What work do You perform?”.Version: 4.2.5

Good but...Great app, BUT, where’s the app support? There hasn’t been an update in over a year and there’s nothing for people with iPhones that have a full screen display like the X, Xs or Xr..Version: 3.3.3

Great App’ - But!I love this app’ and have been using it for some some years. Sadly during the last few months, it may be because of Apple updates to the OS, the ability to share Bible passages, either by email or text, has stopped working. One can only share by “deleting” the shared text in email and saving to draft. From draft one can then share. It is not vital that this works, but as I share Bible texts to a number of people every day, it has made the process a little more protracted. If this fault could be rectified you would have my grateful thanks..Version: 4.2.7

Tuff to send a text messageThis is a great app,at times I want to send some people who need a word from the holy book because their down & I find it really hard to do.Version: 2.5

Suddenly glitchyI used to find this app very useful indeed. I’ve been taking sermon notes on it, linked to the passage, for what seems like a decade. Sadly the last month or so it appears to have caught COVID and stubbornly refuses to all me to annotate Bible passages. Please (please) fix this soon, as I’d hate to lose so much valuable info….Version: 4.2.2

Great new design but not as smoothI use this app nearly everyday and got excited when it updated to be XR compatible, however with the update it didn’t keep a record of my reading plan and I find it crashes a lot more now than ever. Some of the simple things don’t work anymore too; like scrolling from one reading into another but the title bar doesn’t change with what you’re reading. Maybe after a few bug fixes it’ll be much better once these little things are addressed. I love that it’s so simple to read and it’s so close to reading a book..Version: 3.4.6

Help with devotional viewThe bible itself is great but the devotional content is wider than the screen? Can’t find a way to scale this. Seems odd for such a well done app. I’m on iPhone 12..Version: 4.1.2

New UpdateI use to access plans offline, its been very helpful when not having any wifi or data. Now with the new update. Its fustrating that I hardly go on it anymore. Sad.Version: 3.5.1

Good but lost benefitsIt’s actually quite like Dwell app now and I backed out of that because it was going into meditation with music. Im not sure about music served up with everything. Actually I am, it’s a distraction and not good if you’re a bit deaf. Glad it’s not compulsory. I’ve used the app a long time and loved Kirstyns gentle voice for free or maybe I made a one off payment. I don’t remember. . Now I’ve got a new device and when I downloaded from my back up the app has changed. Presumably just timed with an update. But now I have to subscribe for lots of extra stuff I don’t need and I’ve lost the one thing I wanted, my reader of joice who is now behind a paywall. Annoyed , you’re following the ways of the world I’m going to subscription models. Meditation. Chewing over the word and discussing it, not some relaxing mind emptied or at least distracted state due to music. I’m sorry I’m getting it all off my chest while I have your attention. ! Could we have access to the classic version please!?.Version: 5.0.7

What happened to the Study version?I’ve been using the ESV app for years as well as the ESV Study bible app. But the Study version is no longer supported on the latest iOS or in the App Store. This was a great resource. What happened to it?.Version: 4.0

Bad updateWhat’s with the update? Now charging to hear certain readers. Are more people using it and you decided to make money off of it now?.Version: 5.0.7

A new year, another ill-planned updateSigh. First off, I get it. It’s a free app. And it’s a great app...for about 6mo of the year. At the end of the year, the developers decide to reinvent the wheel and roll out a huge update and jazz it up and it’s then 4-6mo of fixing what didn’t need to be fixed in the first place. I see that with 2020 here, they did not miss a chance to do another one of those horrible revamps. My daily bible reading plan completely changed formats overnight, and there is no other plan that offers the format it was using for the past several years. It was a great plan because my church uses the same schedule to go through the Bible in one year and the ease of having it on my iPad was so wonderful. Again, I get it, I’ll just keep the hard copy handouts my church puts in the bulletin at the end of every year and just read off those and manually keep track, but what a bummer to wake up Jan 1 and find the change. But then again, I shouldn’t be surprised. It happens EVERY. YEAR..Version: 3.5.1

Disappointing updateThe new updated app adds nothing (you actually lose things). Menu is harder to navigate much preferred the older grid version of books of Bible rather than multiple drop downs. Audio options are now limited to one? Why? A “library” that just shows the things you don’t have. Very confusing. Had to make a 2nd account for Crossway as it doesn’t carry over to ESV app. Frustrating all round. I’m unsure who the new app is marketing at & seems designed to make money rather than help people go deeper into the Word as it purports..Version: 5.0.6

Want to love but..I can’t. There is so many issues with this app for me. The bookmarks, the highlights, and just the layout does not work for me. I have the Bible app and love that they give you choices on color for highlights. This app is an eyesore and pretty much worthless if you want to highlight. The bookmarks seem to always go away, especially if there’s an update. The voice for reading is hard to follow, I’m not sure why, it just isn’t very friendly when trying to follow the reading. The woman’s voice has such a strong accent you have to continue to rewind if listening which fails completely if you don’t have access or if your walking and listening. This is just sadly an app I do not use which in my opinion is sadly missing the point of trying to carry a message to the people who need it. Go with the Bible app if you want way more ability to customize. This app is light years behind and isn’t fulfilling its purpose whatsoever.Version: 4.1.2

Great app but new update a serious downgradeThis has been my go-to app for years now. I love using it to read and listen to the Bible. However, recently they updated it and several things have changed for the worse. First, they moved buttons around which doesn’t make a lot of sense. The search is now in the tab bar (against Apple’s HIG) and the search feature is laggy. The animations are choppy and actually searching is cluttered. The text is too big so you see one search result at a time. When I realized my app updated, I went to check my highlights (again, been using this app for years) and panicked because the list was empty. However, when I go to passages which I have highlighted they do appear. But to add new highlights I NEED TO LOG IN, WHICH NEVER WAS REQUIRED BEFORE. This is terrible. I think I might use this opportunity to switch apps. Additionally, it seems some content has now gone behind a subscription paywall, which seems unwise to me for a Bible app..Version: 5.0.6

Needs lots of workFrustrating app. Verse numbers aren’t showing up again. Not sure why they can have different highlighter colors. Love the ESV but this app is very poor. Seems like crossway is not interested in making it good. I have waited a long time for it to improve. I actually like the older version better..Version: 4.0

Bad update!Apparently this was updated recently and now won’t open!.Version: 4.0

Cross reference problemThe links to cross references in the ESV Study notes send you to the verses cited, but then you are left there with no “back to where you were” option . This is very frustrating. I have to manually go find where I was to return to the passage I was reading. This defeats the purpose of having cross references. It seems the new app version removed the “back to” option. Please fix this! Other users have been complaining about this. The responses from the app developers are disturbing… they act as if they cannot understand what the users are experiencing. They ask the users for more specifics to be sent to them in emails, and then give users instructions that clearly cannot be the solution (click on an X that doesn’t exist, click outside the reference box, etc). It seems that the developers do not appreciate the disappointment and consternation that is happening with this app update. I rarely ditch apps. It seems that the ESV app has become so dysfunctional that it is time to find a much better Bible study app..Version: 5.0.6

ReadabilityContrast or font weight is lower in this update. It makes it harder to read..Version: 4.0

Please fix bug!I've never had any issues with this app before. I love having it on my phone and all the features it comes with for free. In the past few days though, when I open the app, it shows the last page I was on for a second or two, then the screen goes black and the app automatically closes. Can you please fix whatever bug is causing this? I really miss being able to use this app!!.Version: 3.3.2

Verses missingI’ve just started reading this version of the bible but compared to other versions there are verses missing. For example Matthew 17 v 21 & Matthew 18 v 11. I hope this can be rectified ASAP. Apart from that I find it very easy to read and understand. Nigel..Version: 3.5.1

Good until recentlyI have used this ESV Bible app for daily reading for nearly three years. For that daily reading I read chapters from 4 different books each day. It has worked fine in the past, however, recently the “History” option has not been reliable. Until the end of August the history of the most recent passage viewed, would update every time I changed to a different book. Something apparently changed in September, because in October the History would update only after I closed and then re opened the History tab. Now today, the History is not updating at all. What is going on?.Version: 3.3.3

HeartbrokenI came here to say how sad I am with the new update. This is so unlike the ESV I know. I want a BIBLE APP, not a multi-media, subscription, account-based, confusing muddle. I can hardly use the reading plan anymore because it is buried and you can’t go back and forth easily from the text to the reading plan list. The reading plans have helped keep me faithfully in the word daily for three years now and now I’m not even sure if I will be able to use this app next year. The settings and even the text color have changed, and all settings and choices and options are far more limited than before. If things are available to be added, fine, but give users the ability to select which options they want rather than clouding everything up with playlists and restricted choices. I used to love the ESV app, and loved it for it’s simplicity because that focuses ON GOD’S WORD! I am heartbroken over these changes. Please add options for users to select whether or not they want certain content, and please restore previous choices and functions..Version: 5.0.0

Almost very good but keeps resetting and losing track of my positionWhen I first started using the daily reading plan I was so impressed with the seamless transition between one part of the Bible to the next for that days reading. But, after a few weeks, all my reading tracked data disappeared so had to start all over again but the plan had slightly changed as Proverbs was now introduced as a daily reading. So, I bit my lip and continued. Then all my reading data was lost again….and this happened yet another time. I have a new IPhone 13 and have no issues with any other apps, and as the reading plans have changed, I am 99% sure it is the App or developers. When it works it is really helpful and fluid. My advice is if you use it, screen shot your reading place every day. I have just deleted and reloaded the app to try it one more time. If it fails again I’ll look for something else..Version: 4.2.5

No versesNo verse numbers makes it hard to find what I’m looking for.Version: 3.4.9

No updates, low res imagesPlease update for bigger screens. Old review, still same issue in 2019: Great app, but why illustrations are of such low resolution? Would be nice to be able to view artwork at its best and be able to read text in it..Version: 3.3.3

DisappointedVery disappointed with the update and now being charged to hear the audio version with Kristyn Getty..Version: 5.0.4

Still not updated for iPhone X displayDoesn’t display in full screen but creates large black gaps at the top and bottom of the screen..Version: 3.3.3

FrustratedShuts off when I try to scroll down.Version: 1.8
