ZINIO - Magazine Newsstand for Negative User Reviews

Latest versionOnce again, a change in version does not give any improvement, just a load of troubles. I was quite happy with 3.4.6. This latest version means all mags have to be reloaded, thus taking time and megabites. Also, each mag takes longer to load and seems unstable - pages go missing and one has to wait for them to reload. The fact that there have now been about 5 versions in so many days implies it is not working well. Put us back to the old version until you can get it right!!.Version: 4.5.3

Easy to useUpdated Nov 11, 2018: still wishing for the ability to view my account info in my app. Updated: March 12, 2016. I have no bugs to report or problems or issues I'd like to see addressed. The program/app works exactly as it should. Thanks for listening to and fixing all my issues, Zinionians. I won't give any app a 5 star rating so this is as good as it gets. Update: Feb 2, 2015. All is well and I have no issues with Zinio! Thank u for listening to me! Update: Sept 19, 2014: I updated my iPad to iOS8 and now when I open my (one and only) magazine, the app closes completely and brings me to my desktop! PLEASE FIX! I have always found this app to be very easy to use. I take Soap Opera Digest. I would up the rating to a 5 star IF they would get a CUSTOMER SERVICE SUPPORT PHONE NUMBER so we could speak to them live. And, allow us to change our email addresses. Other than those 2 things, I really like this app and would recommend it to you..Version: 4.13.3

I want my texture backNot quite like the old texture app that was perfect. This is per magazine subscription. The only way if you want to be paperless..Version: 4.25.1

Broken app with last two updates - no response from support - terrible customer serviceBeen using this app for years with no trouble, but after update one month ago app flashes opening screen in landscape, then portrait, then crashes, can’t get to any of my content. Hoped update from 4 days ago would fix it but still same issue, can’t even get into the app. What’s worse is no response despite multiple tries with support, really bad customer service….Version: 4.54.4

ZINIOI received the wrong magazine and tried restore purchases then sync account. It didn’t work. I do enjoy this app over all..Version: 4.32.0

What Is Going On?I have tried the app today in multiple versions of iOS and all I get when I try to open the app is “The current version is no longer available. Please go to the AppStore and download the latest version” All the AppStore presents is your app listing with an open button. The app however WILL NOT OPEN. It only presents the same error. My updates page shows no available ZINIO updates and that this version is only about a week old. I am not even able to access downloaded content. This is 100% UNACCEPTABLE! Provide solution ASAP or refund every penny I have spent with you over many years as what I paid for has been taken away. Until this latest disaster and the fact there is zero way to contact directly I viewed your company as reputable and worthy..Version: 4.49.0

Years Later still buggyI get 16 different magazines some on the ZINIO platform some not. The only ones I have issues with are ZINIO. They don’t download or download then disappear and in all cases I have to contact support and they do something on their end and it works again. Then they bug the heck out out you to see if it worked. I travel for work so sometimes it may be a day or two before I can back to it to check. Meanwhile the emails are piling up. The latest was I got a new issue of Eating Well. Started to read it. Went back in the next day to continue reading and it was gone. So I contacted support ( thinking here we go again) and the initial return comment was there was indeed an issue and it was being turned over to production to see what happened. I got an email this morning saying “Sorry that issue is not included in your subscription.” So they took it back. ON CHRISTMAS EVE NO LESS. I really don’t like the fact that they can go into my iPad and remove things. using another analogy if you bought a new piece of electronics and they gave you an extra HDMI cable, for example, “by mistake” if it was ZINIO they would come to your home and rip it out of your hands....Version: 4.28.1

New update, no new magazines appear on appI have a problem, where my new magazines are in my library (ie if I log in to ZInio on a webpage) but they don’t appear in the app, since the recent awful update. A few days ago I contacted Zinio to notify them of this- they didn’t bother to read my contact form and just responded with an automatic reply about why we have to download mags again - there are no mags to download! I wrote straight back telling them of this and have again since then chased them but they don’t even bother replying, telling me they are looking into the issue. I have no idea what is happening. Anyone else not getting the connection between the app and their library now?.Version: 4.5.3

ZINIOI gave you one star for now because it doesn’t work - just downloaded it the last Zinio there. Suppose to run on the IOS platform. Doesn’t open, nothing for time being… I am using iPhone 12 since last Christmas..Version: 4.48.0

Improving, but not greatThe Zinio experience has improved a lot recently but is still unreliable. Does a poor job of keeping in sync across multiple devices and showing you download vs read progress (nice to know I have downloaded a magazine, better to know if I have read it... take a look at comic readers like Chunky which do a better job of that) Support seem not to understand or use their own product when you email them, and more annoyingly expect you to act as an unpaid salesforce to convince publishers to bring titles to the platform. Recently realized a new frustration... doesn’t warn you (or give an option to renew) when a subscription is coming to an end.Version: 4.34.1

Images suddenly disappear from the entire magazine. How can this app be any worse? It fails at its primary premise, delivering magazines. Every time it is used the images disappear from the magazine you are reading, followed by the entire library. Only an app restart fixes the problem (temporarily)..Version: 3.4.6

You will need bandwidthZINIO only seems to work when you have reliable and substantial wifi bandwidth. Do not expect to cache a bunch of magazines to read on a long flight...unless you’re willing to pay for the wireless. Ditto for anyone going camping and wanting to take along some light reading..Version: 4.19.0

Doesn’t open at last pageA real problem with the latest update is that when I return to the app it opens at a marketing home-screen, when it should open at the last page I was reading. I have a number of subscriptions so I then have to navigate to my magazine list and remember which one I was reading last and then open it. This is incredibly annoying (and rubbish for a reading app) and if I could revert to the older app then I would. Please bring back the ‘return to last page’ functionality when the app is reopened. I am resending the above review as it hasn’t been addressed in the last few updates and when I read a back issue of a magazine from a few years ago, it’s often impossible to find the article I was last reading as the app doesn’t return to the last page that was read. It always used to do this before, so why not now? I’ll buy direct from the publisher when my subscription runs out..Version: 4.11.3

Depressingly buggyI’ve been using ZINIO for a few years now and it just seems to go backwards in terms of stability and usability. Almost every publication I open just shows the loading symbol on page after page long after the entire magazine has downloaded. Once a page has shown the loading icon then it will never display unless I unload the entire magazine and re-download. I don’t know if the dev team reads these reviews but it needs fixing NOW!.Version: 4.19.0

Do not download the latest upgradeZinio was a great app. Easy to use. Not now. It is terrible. Here in Australia it takes a long time to load each issue. Deleted issues stay on the home screen. Why? I’ve deleted it. I don’t want to see it. Every magazine that I have borrowed or bought over the last four years and DELETED is now back on my home screen - 3,000 issues. I’ve asked Zinio to delete these. They are unable to do this. Why???? Their solution is for me to delete my account (losing all those issues I want to keep), set up a new account and start again. Did they test this new version? It is ponderously slow, clunky and awful to use. No stars from me..Version: 4.5.4

😒I so want to like this app, I've used it for many years with mixed results. After the new update I can no longer view my library unless I'm online (a problem I've had in the past) which is frustrating given I commute a lot of the time. Also why can't it save your place across multiple devices? It always seems to be one step forward and two steps back with Zinio unfortunately 😩.Version: 4.6.0

Good selection but terrible app and bad customer serviceEvery time they update it just gets worse with more bugs and issues such as randomly changing whether you can view a magazine on iPhone or iPad, 'forgetting' if you have bought a magazine so you have to repurchase. They also don't make it clear whether certain magazines are only available for iPad or iPhone, or more annoyingly, some issues will be available on one device and not the other. I have had to be refunded so many times and each time the company has made out that I am stupid for not magically knowing which format the magazine is in, until I screenshot that they don't inform is. Each refund takes more than a week with inept Customer Service reps. Not worth the hassle..Version: 3.4.6

No good for older iPads running 9.3.5.Crashes on startup... That's all it now does. Was excellent until they decided to 'improve' it..Version: 4.15.3

No updateThe App keeps telling me that it is unable to update..Version: 4.50.2

Keeps kicking me out on my iPad miniUgh. I can only flip a few pages and the app shuts down. What’s the problem?.Version: 4.39.1

Best to worstThis use to be my fave app. Now I have months of magazines backlogged because nothing downloads. My connection is fine and every other app works just fine but it’s takes hours/days to download a magazine on this app now IF it ever does. I have canceled all my subscriptions and just letting them run out. So disappointing as it was the best app out there.Version: 4.40.0

AnnoyingFor many years this is the app of all apps I've wanted to love but ended up hating. The developers never listen to feedback, ever. No matter how many times we've asked over the years to read our subscriptions without being pestered to buy new magazines, they ignore us. App is cumbersome, sluggish, and this time around refused to restore my purchases. Just annoying, and it will never get better. move along..Version: 3.4.6

Not updatingThe app says to download an updated version. Tried to but on the apple App Store it only says “open” no new download available. Any ideas, anyone?.Version: 4.44.2

Slow as hell to downloadIt takes a long time (hours) to download a magazine, and it is not my internet being too slow. I often download videos of several hundred megs each which takes only minutes..Version: 4.34.1

WORST UPDATE EVER!!This is a classic case of trying to fix something that wasn't broken. This update erased 7 years of magazines that now have to be re-downloaded. For someone who is remote and has a slow connection this is a real problem. What's really frustrating is the library screen doesn't show which issues have been downloaded and which not. The previous versions had an icon up front that told you which were resident on your device and which needed to be downloaded. This new version doesn't have that. Now you might click on a cover and the app spins for 10 or 15 seconds and then starts downloading. You can't even read while its downloading. They should have just left well enough alone..Version: 4.5.2

Was great now it’s rubbishUsed to be great now all it does on my iPad is go to screen that shows app loading and that’s all that happens now continuously. Reinstalled app and no change. Lots of issues of magazines I now can’t read easily like I used to enjoy on my iPad. Obviously can’t be bothered as a company to fix obvious issues or bugs it seems. Sort it out.Version: 4.25.1

Another app that takes your moneyThis is another app in a disturbing trend that is designed to milk you for cash. Any time you subscribe to something, it automatically sets you up to auto renew at rack rates without notification or confirmation. There isn't any information on the website of how to get a refund, and you only know that the magazine is set up for auto renewal if you go into your account and look at the subscriptions. If you clear the payment information, it wipes out everything in your profile, including purchase history. I like the idea of having my magazines on my iPad Pro, but not if I have to give up control of my wallet. Find a different company to get your content from..Version: 3.4.6

It doesn’t workI’ve paid for a subscription and no matter what I do I can’t get the magazine to download. Try getting help! Much better magazine apps so I’m annoyed at getting hooked into this dud..Version: 4.24.0

Needs PDF export abilityNot too bad of an app, but it really needs the ability to export to PDF so that one can use the native “Books” app to read one’s magazines..Version: 4.54.2

To long to loadI have down loaded the magazine read for a while and want to open when I have a few minutes to read and it take forever to reload..Version: 4.32.0

IssuesWhy are you selling subscriptions to mags that have been discontinued, lots of download issues over the week, no notification to tell us why.Version: 4.38.1

What on Earth happened?Don’t know what you did with that last update, but now ZINIO has become a useless app, where I can’t read my magazine I subscribe to, because every page buffers for minutes before it downloads, IF it downloads at all! I have to come out of the app, leave it for a while, then go back in, to see the next page, which then promptly disappears. Bad update, ZINIO. You’re going to lose a lot of your users..Version: 4.19.0

NatGeo on Zinio: Good - but not greatHave been using Zinio to read NG for 8 years now. Current version is reasonably good... but it ain’t great. Recent update introduced long overdue feature. You can now read NG in ‘PDF-like’ format. In other words, no multimedia, no 3D layouts, just pages of content and pictures that you can flip and read. Just like a paper magazine. Very nice! Except for one thing... Every time you scroll to the next article, a popup floats in. ‘Good news! Text view is available!’ Text view is their 3D layout with videos and other fluff. By the time I finished reading that issue of NG, I was treated to the ‘good news’ announcement over 70(!) times. Do you, guys, think 10 popups might be enough for an average reader to comprehend the ‘good news’? I know you worked hard on that ‘text view’ but still... We are not that dumb, really... Another huge annoyance is a flood of crappy titles that Zinio shoves into your personal library. Previously you could choose the titles you want and save them in ‘Read’ layout. Not any more! ‘Library’ is the new ‘Read’ and every time I open it, I find dozens of helpful new titles from WebMD to VIV and ‘Car and Truck’. Guys, pls stop it. Have your new titles in your marketplace. I’ll go there when I want to. But leave my library alone, don’t dump your junk there. It’s not cool..Version: 4.19.0

Slow to see new issuesI like reading my subscriptions on my ipad, but it seems like it takes too long to update with new issues. For example, I have received my printed Sky & Telescope December 2018 issue about a week ago, but it has yet to update in my library on Zinio. Same for my Astronomy magazine. Also, Sky & Telescope previously allowed download of pdf versions, which could be read without internet access. Although Zinio can be read offline, this access is limited to what has been recently accessed. This is a little inconvenient when you wish to refer to back issues. Overall, this is a good first step, it just needs the ability to force subscription updates and allow more full issues to be stored on my reading device. Perhaps they could allow a way to select this on an issue by issue basis as long as local storage is sufficient..Version: 4.13.3

Tedious re downloadingAfter the update I am having to re download all the content I have collected over the years which in its self is fine, however the download process is tedious. You have to queue up each magazine individually and if you close the app it does not start downloading again when it is re opened, even though the magazines are listed as queued. There is one magazine that says error and won’t even start downloading. Some sort of download manager screen would be helpful. I also use this app on both my iPhones and iPad and the bookmarks don’t sync across both devices which would be handy..Version: 4.5.0

SLOWVery slow all magazines take days not minutes to download!!.Version: 4.34.1

Stop with the adult content!I have one subscription in this app and it's to an outdoor magazine. I have no dodgy browsing history, and yet every time I open the Zinio app my home page has multiple adult magazines on it. Not appropriate in a cafe, at work, or in front of my kids! It makes me not want to open the app! I guess it's quite telling that the number one FAQ in that section is "Where can I find my adult magazines?" Christ, Zinio. Have some discretion and offer a switch to turn on or off adult content!.Version: 4.46.1

InterfaceThe format of text and photos in “Text Mode” are at times very glitchy. I think the app just uses an algorithm which formats the articles in a preset layout, which I think is fine, but doesn’t always work very well. I understand it may be cumbersome to process all the magazines one by one to ensure that the layout in text mode are properly displayed, but it just ruins the entire experience. I feel like I’m reading my content from a bogus website..Version: 4.11.1

App frustratingly deletes magazinesI am currently in a country where the internet speed is very slow. I am constantly receiving messages from Zinio that the iPad is too full and that magazines will be deleted unless I free up space - or that the iPad is full. But when I check my storage, it seems like I should have plenty of space, and no other apps are giving me problems. It's really frustrating to have to spend hours re-downloading magazines I had already downloaded. Why is there no way to turn off the "automatic delete" feature? The iPad has its own notifications and procedures when storage is ACTUALLY getting dangerously low..Version: 3.4.6

Zinio problematicI have been with Zinio through several evolutions ...each evolution is problematic for existing customers ...you download their NEW app version...and you are left with problem after problem...you need to download all your magazines...AGAIN......the app has some great magazines hence loyalty ..but ...the Zinio app is not up to any expectation...the help desk is run by a zombie ......this app falls very short. This app doesn’t inform when your subscription ends nor can you go into your account to review your current nor past subscription details for the magazines you subscribed to... And... When you choose to subscribe to a magazine this app doesn’t actually tell you how many issues you will receive for your subscription fee. This app and company fall short on information , functionality and service..Version: 4.12.2

Bring back ZinioRBDigital app is inferior to the old Zinio one because: 1. No “Look Up” option. I can understand if your licence agreement with publishers prevent a copy option, but why remove the select-press, Look Up option? This was very useful to view word definitions. 2. Table of contents in for example, The Economist, doesn’t show anything except nondescript title & tiny thumbnail. Please also show story subtitle. Page numbers are useless, subtitles can replace them. 3. Relaunching after even short period doesn’t return to the story I was reading. Have to manually open magazine & article. 4. Font size isn’t adjustable enough, seems to just increase\decrease line-spacing. 5. Slower to launch 6. Most of the time when in the main Magazine view I want to read a magazine. Pressing a magazine icon should open reading view. Currently must press tiny read button, or is a two-step process of pressing main magazine icon, then Read 7. Good that it’s now possible to subscribe to magazine in-app. But magazines are “published” first on the website, RBDigital app lags behind and fails to show the latest edition for a long time..Version: 4.9.1

Auto-removal of magazinesThe app itself is fine...but I HATE the fact that issues are automatically deleted “to save space”. I downloaded an issue for reading later, only to see its “in the cloud” once again...where I do NOT have access to wi-if to download it. Why can’t this auto-removal of magazines be the choice of the user instead of the app itself? I’m tired of redownloading issues over and over again...sometimes on the exact next day! You lose two stars from me because that “feature” hurts the experience for those that don’t have access to wi-if all of the time..Version: 3.4.6

Slow page loadingI'm not sure what's happened to my favorite reading app. For the last several months I have been having issues with turning pages on downloaded magazines. Every magazine I try to read is the same thing. The first two or three pages work just like usual every page after that it looks like the page is made up of 9-12 squares that load one at a time. Sometimes it takes 2-3 seconds to turn the page and wait for it to be fully displayed. Another new issue is the occasional blurry page that seems to take a few seconds to fully sharpen. I have a current generation iPad pro, my wife has an older iPad air 3 and we both have the same issues..Version: 4.11.3

Great pool of titlesThe app is easy to use, stable and a great selection of titles. Could be more local titles for NZ but it's overall very good. The new explore feature doesn't really address the issue of browsing a magazine before buying as it only covers a fraction of the titles. A 'quick look' at the content and design of a publication is integral to the choosing process, hope this feature will be integrated soon. The new version has annoying repeating feature banners that do nothing to enhance the browse experience. Overall some good ideas, and some that should be left out. Notice too the new version of Zinio has higher prices for many issues when the stand price has not gone up..Version: 2.0

Needs more workI have had to contact this company multiple times regarding my subscription status. They love taking your money but I was without current issues for 6 months for 3 of my magazines. It’s not awesome paying for something and not receiving it. There’s some disconnect between iTunes and these apps. Also when in responsive mode on my iPad I can’t get through one article without the app crashing 3 or more times. Obviously not a very well engineered product. They ask for feedback and politely respond but nothing happens. My apps have been buggy for over a year now and they don’t seem to care about providing a fix..Version: 4.19.0

Fraudulent business practicesOk. Be careful. If a magazine ceases they will not refund. They will not offer credit. Their customer service is HOPELESS. They do not honour their agreements with customers. They don't honour or acknowledge the agreements reached via email support. With regards to developer response below- I spent hours emailing customer support and on chat support and received a consistent response - we do not provide credit. Adamantly requesting credit and asserting my consumer rights for items I had paid for on chat support led to the "customer service" individual ending the chat. I spent the best part of day emailing back and forth and the constant stream of different "customer service" bots offering canned responses and inconsistent information was infuriating, especially for a simple issue. I am waiting to see if they do something or whether I need to report them to Apple and to consumer affairs. The advice they were providing was certainly outside of consumer law where I am located. The app is good but the paper subscription is still better, and considering the customer service I am weighing up paying the premium for a hard magazine and the associated benefits that provides..Version: 3.4.6

Good selection of mags - terrible appThe good selection of magazines is the only reason I use this app. It is clunky, buggy and generally annoying to use. Is full of bugs including a glitch requiring Internet access to view content that has already been downloaded (so don't think you'll be able to take your iPad on holiday and read all that content you downloaded while away from the Internet). Support has repeatedly failed to solve several issues I have had over the years. There has not been any app development or improvement to the many bugs over the years. App will randomly jump several pages when trying to pan on one page - amongst other everyday annoyances. Seriously Consider if there are other methods for getting your magazines first..Version: 3.4.6

Ugly and ad-infestedZinio always wakes up to ads for more magazines. Then an ugly pop-up occurs, trying to sell you even more of them. There is no option to avoid this. This could be forgivable if we weren’t paying them a bunch of money already for the magazines, but we are. There’s no option for it to wake up showing your library. Then, when you finally are able to display your library, it’s an ugly white-background display with no option for customization. Come on, Zinio, treat us better. And users of Zinio, stop giving this app five stars and encouraging this arrogant behavior. Edit: the developer explained below how to remove the most irritating pop-up ads (turn off notifications—but since when are ads euphemistically called notifications?). Unfortunately, Zinio still necessarily opens to the “home” page, which is entirely ads, and I still get pop-ups. So it’s still ugly and ad-infested—even when we tell it not to be. We pay more money to Zinio than to most apps, which remove ads when you pay them. Zinio is still treating us badly by forcing us to see ads simply upon opening the app, and the alleged fix doesn’t work. So I’m changing my rating to one star. By the way, I notice that the “most helpful reviews” are five stars and are years old, and my actually helpful recent review and others like it are way way down on the “helpful” list. I’m guessing that Zinio has invested heavily in “reviewers”. If only they’d invested in improving their product....Version: 4.24.0

Was Great Until Last UpdateIn text mode, you now only provide a scrolling interface instead of a page turning interface on iPad. The old older page turn interface was far superior. The reason I came to ZINIO from The Economist is they changed to a scrolling only view. This is far worse, when trying to read with minimum screen interaction - how can I get the page turning interface back?.Version: 4.9.1

DON’T DO IT!I downloaded the app in the beginning of January. I can’t download the magazine I bought on January. And ever since then I have be been trying to get a refund. £9 might not be a lot of money to them , but it money I can’t waste on a crap site like this. I complain to theZinio and asked for a refund they pass me on to iTunes, iTunes pass me on to ZINIO and so It goes on. Once they got your money they will not give you a refund..Version: 4.17.0

Splendid once now I don’t trust themI subscribe to 4 publications, they are easy to read, inexpensive and I don't misplace them! Recommended back then but no longer. ZINIO just updated itself when I launched it without asking. It has deleted all the magazines on mu iPad and told me I need to reload them which is a huge waste of time and bandwidth. On top of that I can’t find anything pre 2015 so they have thrown away my archive without asking. Update: The latest look I had showed all the archives including pre 2015 to now be available. I just have to find the issues I had wanted to keep and re-download them, so less of a catastrophe more a pain..Version: 4.5.3

Downloading issuesIt seems like the app/site is getting slower over the years. At one point I could download and be reading within minutes, now I press download go to bed and hope that the mag is there when I wake up..Version: 4.28.1

Opening a page to readI keep getting a black screen.Version: 4.52.0

Subscription issueZinio remains a great way to read magazines, especially from the local library, but I've experienced significant problems trying to renew subscriptions online. I've had real difficulties trying to change credit card expiration dates on several cards, had multiple charges for one magazine renewal, and had to get one card company to dispute and block further charges. Zinio customer service has no option for actually talking to a human being rather than multiple and frustrating chat sessions or emails so I have just let a number of subscriptions expire. I may have to seriously consider changing services and limit Zinio to free library magazines. Zinio - please fix this renewal problem..Version: 3.4.6

Won’t loadWhy can’t I open Zino on my iPad? I have magazines to read on there but it won’t open 😢.Version: 4.32.0

Almost thereThe idea of being able to keep previous issues of mags without taking up space is great. I have already subscribed to a couple of mags where I already have paper subs. Main complaint is those providers who think we would be silly enough to subscribe at the same cost as the paper sub. Does anyone actually pay $6.99 for a magazine which they can buy on the newsstand for, wait for it, $6.99? Update 2018, things move on, whilst Zinio haven’t. Still ridiculous pricing for many titles, meantime Readly offers hundreds of magazines for a modest monthly subscription. Suspect that Zinio will go the same way as Blockbuster, great idea which failed to keep up with progress. PS Zinio also do something which is very sneaky, presumably to reduce bad reviews. Click on the invitation to review, inside the app, if you click on ‘great app’, you are taken to the review page. Click on ‘needs work ‘ and you are taken to an email page..Sneaky..Version: 3.4.6

Magazines won’t down loadCan’t seem to access any of my magazines..Version: 4.23.2

GlitchyOften has downloading issues, but is an ok app..Version: 4.58.0

Could be perfectThis app is great except for two easily fixed flaws. 1) The app doesn’t use the full screen of the new iPad Pro 11. There is a black border on all 4 edges, which means you are wasting precious screen real estate that is crucial when reading in landscape orientation. 2) My old national geo interactive magazines are now static PDFs..... it is like a backwards step for no reason. Would otherwise be a five star app..Version: 4.14.1

Latest updates/version broke the app for meHello, been using ZINIO for the better part of a decade, since the whole new redesign I’ve had several annoyances about zooming in and quality of the picture/touching the images and zooming in/lack of ability to touch certain things and zoom in... I look past it and continue using the app and subscribing to magazines because it’s convenient... but since the last update, I can not open the app. I tried all kinds of bs, wifi, no wifi, vpn, no vpn, force close, restart iPhone blah blah blah... nothing works, I really don’t want to delete the app and reinstall as I would need to download hundreds of magazines -again- since the big update but i seem to have no choice. Please fix this, and do something about the quality of the scans/picture, it can’t be that hard to make it look good on a tiny iPhone..Version: 4.15.0

ZINIO App needs improvementsLoved this idea and early versions of this app. Over the years, I frequently have to re-download content and find myself frequently trying to read something I’ve previously downloaded while on a plane w no WiFi but not being able to do so. When WiFi returns, instantly without downloading, I can return to content. Finally, please remove or provide an option to turn off hot links to external websites. Noting more frustrating that to constantly be redirected to an external website simply trying to turn pages. This is especially a pain when on a plan and all it does is launch safari to a website that’s not available. This feature is too sensitive to a touch and totally frustrating..Version: 4.17.0

SUBSCRIPTION RENEWAL NOTICEWould be nice if ZINO gave notice to subscription renewals. Also be able to buy subscriptions for more then 1 year..Version: 4.25.1

Not impressed with new updateSorry ZINIO but I’m really not impressed with the new update. Before it was easy to navigate and I liked how I could separate my magazines into months. Now there is just a mass of magazines and all my old deleted magazines have come back to haunt me! Not sure why you changed something that worked perfectly fine..Version: 4.5.0

How bad can Zinio Customer Service getI have used Zinio extensively over the last three years spending hundreds of dollars on digital magazines . However like many companies they have completely forgotten the customer and are virtually impossible to contact in human form or conversation , when a problem arises. leave as many messages as you like, you will get no response and when you are billed incorrectly , you may need to write it off, as the cost of leaving phone messages outweighs the mistake eventually. Email them yes you can but my experience is no reply Its like the hotel California song you can leave as many messages as you want but you can never get a reply . In the meantime they send out offers that cannot be used but will keep my business only as long as a real competitor fails to emerge. They started out excellent in my experience but now are a disaster and if I could give a minus star I would . I WOULD ADD THAT I HAVE PURCHASED A LOT OF MAGAZINES AND THEY HAVE DISAPPEARED FROM MY RECORD I HAVE ASKED ZINIO TO REINSTATE THEM AND THIS HAPPENED BUT THEN THEY CHANGED THE FORMAT AND THEY DISAPPEARED AGAIN I HAVE NOW GIVEN UP BUYING MAGAZINES AS MANY OF MY PURCHASES HAVE DISAPPEARED IAN.Version: 4.11.0

Terrible and no response to emailsThe app has updated and i have lost access to thousands of dollars of magazines..Version: 4.46.1

IOS only?No app for Mac makes no sense, fine to have it on my phone and iPad but would rather read some of my magazines on my larger Mac screen. Also, website instructions for deleting issues don’t work as described..Version: 4.43.2

Recent changes affecting iPad ProLike other reviewers I’m a regular user of Zinio and it’s been a pretty good app. Whatever recent changes have been made though are a dramatic step backwards. Each page now slowly builds on the iPad Pro whereas up to recently it was instantaneous. The end result is what was a slick app is now slow and clunky. I can’t imagine I’ll renew my subscription if this stays the same so please please back off the changes introducing this slow performance..Version: 4.10.0

Not as good as a standalone magI've stopped subscribing to new mags via Zinio, and instead go to the Newsstand. Why? The format makes it painful to read. The feature set promises that you can read full fidelity versions of the articles as laid out in the mag, but the text is too small, so you end up zooming in and then scrolling frantically up and down, left and right, as paragraphs bend around pictures. It's hard work and not relaxing. The alternative is to switch to enhanced text mode, using the "Text" button at the bottom of the page. Most magazines titles don't offer this feature - I think Rolling Stone is the only one I read that does, so it will be the only title I resubscribe to when it's time to renew. I've let the other subscriptions lapse. Checkout the Economist on Newsstand vs the Economist in Zinio ... there's no contest - the native app is a far superior experience..Version: 2.1.2

Was a 5-star app until latest versionKeep it simple... I just want to be able to see my downloaded magazines plus new editions available for download. I can’t do that with the latest version. I want to open the app in Read mode. I can’t do that with the latest version. I want to be able to open the app and read my downloaded magazines in offline mode. I can’t do that with the latest version. Why complicate something that works and works well? It not necessary....Version: 4.6.0

Useless as can’t change forgotten passwordMost useless app ever. Have just created an account as given gift subscription for Christmas. App won’t open as it won’t recognise the password. When try to reset it sends a password reset email that only takes me to the home page - not the reset password page. So I tried to change the password on the regular change password page but you have to enter your old password!!! *&$#&4 useless!!! Have deleted and my friend is now asking for a paper subscription..Version: 4.49.0

Smooth interface but no way to delete magazines anymoreI really like everything about the app except that my delete button is grayed out no matter how I try to troubleshoot. Online searches have given me a couple of options on deleting unwanted magazines but nothing has worked. The “Go to library> magazines; select magazine you wish to delete and tap on the 3 (verticals) dots to remove from library” doesn’t work because the only selections are Archive or Download- there is no option to delete there either. Also, I logged off and logged in several times, hoping it may refresh my library. The last time I did this, some random Japanese magazine appeared in my library and of course, I am unable to delete it. I am really disappointed. I’ll be looking for another platform for subscriptions..Version: 4.38.0

Recently it’s unusableHaving used ZINIO for a few years with very few issues it has been terrible recently. The resolution on magazines is poor for a number of seconds and it is frequently either giving me a black screen or just crashing constantly. I’m assuming that I can’t use another app to view my subscriptions as I subscribed through this one but I won’t renew them on ZINIO next time around I’ll try another. For reference I’ve tried all the standard delete, reinstall, delete magazines and re-download all won’t the same poor result. Not acceptable..Version: 4.15.3

Great concept, but…Love the concept, I have been a ZINIO customer for about 15 years, and have hundreds of publications. But ZINIO needs to really improve their app and also their servers. Frequently not able to download publications, and when I am able to, I cannot view the publications whilst travelling and offline..Version: 4.51.2

Another horrible update!Every time Zinio updates its app, ALL old deleted issues, even those that go back many years, show up again in my library!! And this silly update doesn’t even allow a user to remove/delete unwanted issues from the library like the previous version. After the last update, I spent A LOT of time deleting/removing old issues, ONE AT A TIME, but they are all back again! I have been a loyal customer for over NINE years with many subscriptions, but I am seriously considering deleting the app permanently soon. I cannot go through this silly effort every time Zinio updates its app! And now, I cannot even delete 9-year old issues at all. The new filter option does not solve this problem at all!!.Version: 4.14.1

Terrible updateTried to persevere as I’ve loved the app until now. Just hate this update though. The default to ‘Shop’ is so unbelievably annoying I’m almost about to stop using Zinio & go back to hard copies! No preference option to set to ‘Read’ (or anything else). Previous version looked better, Library was nicer to use & easier to organise. Updated graphics arrangement of magazines really annoying & visually clunky. Hate the updated filtering options. Why change the ‘Year’ option which was previously visually clear & easier to navigate than update. Option to choose either a black or white background too please. PS if developer responds please do not thank me for ‘reaching out’. I’m not. I’m ‘contacting you’ to give you feedback. PPS Apologies for being so cranky..Version: 4.7.0

Awkward and annoying. This app varies. It is constantly sending advertisements for more magazines, slow to download and tricky to set up if you do decide to take up an offer. You have to allow emails so you know when your magazine (s)will be ready to download. So you will have daily offers cluttering your inbox. The colouring books on offer cannot be printed so it is impossible to use them without making a screen shot. All in all if you can subscribe to a magazine another way, I strongly recommend you do that instead..Version: 3.4.6

New features, new bugs!Text view has changed to include illustrations, but now scrolls sideways instead of vertically. After a few pages it won’t ‘stick’ on the new page, either skipping ahead or bouncing back to the previous one. Even worse, the last update removed all my bookmarks!.Version: 4.5.2

Huh?Looks like my favourite magazines need to pay money, while some of the others are free. I just download another app then 😒..Version: 4.33.0

Slow and often restart requiredI use zinio on my iMac and now also on iPad. The application is great but slow and laggy. The subscriptions are still relatively expensive. But what I love is that I build up a library and do not have to throw away issues I did not even get to read. The startup of the iPad application is terribly slow and also fails often and needs to restart. Improvements there would make this a 4 star recommendation for me. Also backing up or syncing with ITunes becomes very slow. Another major problem is that from time to time they launch a terrible upgrade an you have to wait some time before you can properly use Zinio again..Version: 2.0.1

Unwanted content!I’ve loved and used Zinio for years. But lately, I’m finding that I’m falling out of love with it. Firstly, I had problems with the wrong magazine downloading. When that was finally fixed, the quality of the file was so poor that I couldn’t read any of the text. Support suggested that I read the magazine on a PC, but that kind of defeats the purpose being able to take a magazine with me. Today I logged on to read an old issue of a magazine I bought ages ago. My library is cluttered up with magazines that I didn’t buy and have no interest in, but I’m unable to remove them. And banners for magazines on sale keep flashing up on the screen. If this is the new Zinio, I’ll be canceling my subscriptions and reverting back to hard copies..Version: 4.11.3

All bookmarks gone, Zinio don’t care for their customersBeen using Zinio for various magazines since 2010. Didn’t see the emails about the “exciting new update” but if I had, there was nothing in the subject that indicated they contained important information about loss of data. Gutted that I have lost all my bookmarks. I write software for a living. It absolutely was possible to preserve people’s bookmarks in some form - at the very least you could have emailed users magazine titles and page numbers. Now that data is gone forever. Going forward I will be looking at alternatives..Version: 4.5.4

Need option between read by page and scrollingIt’s a great app now but two new feature needed. One is read by page in text mode and remember which page you left off..Version: 4.19.0

No way to freeing up space even after deleting ...After reading and deleting a number of publications, the occupied space will not free up even after deleting the read items. I also reported the problem to the customer support and they suggested to delete and re-install the app to free up the space!.Version: 3.4.6

Crap in a app!!When I payed for my subscription I was able to save my PDFs of the magazine I payed for not have to be stuck to some app to access what I payed for!!! Now after my subscription is up I will redue my magazine and pick a digital service that lets me save my files that I pay for. I don’t like being forced into something half way through a subscription this is in fact wrong if not boardline illegal. Now to have the rest of my pdf magazine together I have to go back and repurchase my PDFs that I can not get from your app but of course can go re pay for something. This is wrong and the greedy ceo of this app knows it I would give s zero star if I could I hate that I’m stuck with this crap app half way into my subscription!!!.Version: 4.19.0

Don't use this site. You will get screwedMagazines subscribed to for a year will stop working with Zinio partially into the subscription. Zinio won't notify that the subscription publisher stopped working with them. Zinio reps have even said the publisher stopped publishing the magazine which isn't true the publisher just stopped working with Zinio. Then Zinio will offer back issues - who needs back issues of a news magazine focused on event listings? Zinio will give you the link to iTunes help so you can try to get a refund through iTunes knowing its near impossible when the subscription is already over 90 days. iTunes. Drop this awful app. I definitely will be changing the accounting policy for a few of the business I work with to disallow any Zinio subscriptions to publications and won't be using Zinio or iTunes for the education programs I am involved with or for personal use..Version: 3.4.6

Great app, horrible updateI have had this app for years and loved it! New update is horrible in every way. Does not open to the read section now why? It does not send me my new issues I have to change multiple filters that bring up every issue I have ever purchased. Nothing is done automatically like it used to. I had a new issue today took me about ten minutes to get it because I could not find it. Unreal how bad this update is. Happy to change rating if fixed as ZINIO support is awesome. 15/6 update, app now not loading my new issues, crashing saying issue with my internet and to try later. This is amazing how bad this app is, I now no longer will use it and will cancel all my subscriptions. The support of ZINIO is so good, a shame the app has come to this.Version: 4.7.3

Great app but all my bookmarks goneI know we were notified this would happen but that doesn’t make me happy accepting the fact. Also the app now closes with the setting you have on your mobile device where before the app stayed open. Now have to use mucky hands to keep opening the app. Other than that I like the look but these are two serious bug bears to me..Version: 4.5.2

App crash when trying to registerApp keeps on crashing when I try to register. I am with iPhone X on the newest iOS. Please fix it..Version: 4.19.0

Frustrated longtime userThis platform has been around for over 15 years, and was once the best for digital magazines. That hasn’t been true for awhile. If it weren’t for my large library and a few titles that are only available on Zinio I’d switch. Nearly every version has had trouble switching between portrait and landscape on iPad, often hopping to a completely unrelated spot in the issue and sometimes getting navigation in the table of contents so badly out of sync with what’s being shown that a force quit is required. Over time, my library of content I’ve already bought or subscribed to has become deeply buried. One of the benefits of subscribing to a magazine is the ability to enjoy a new issue without having to dig through the shelves to see when it’s available. Not here. I had to turn off notifications for Zinio entirely because they started pushing so many ads, eliminating the last smooth way to see when a new issue was available. The entire experience is obnoxious..Version: 4.13.3

PoorUsed this for my magazine fix when I got my iPad 2. Steadily over the years it has gone downhill. I’ve got fed up with the slow downloads, the slow rendering of the pages ... block by block and the final straw being the emails saying a publication is ready when in fact it’s not, worse case having to wait two days after publication. Also fed up with the advice from support to uninstall/reinstall then try to download again. I used to have 11 magazines on subscription, now it’s down to one, only because I can’t get it anywhere else .... Readly is now preferred option..Version: 4.11.3

Very poor nowI used to love the simplicity and ease of use of this app, but since it was ‘updated’, like others here, I’ve found it confusing and laggy. I am so disappointed. Insultingly, recently while struggling to read a magazine a pop up appeared asking me to rate ZINIO with 5 stars! I clicked on the button hoping to leave a short review but the link simply gave Zinio 5 stars on my behalf which is why I’m redressing the balance now. I suspect that’s why zinio has so many 5 star ratings for such a confusing app..Version: 4.12.2

Just OKA good app. BUT, it seems to have no way of knowing or telling you when your monthly subs are up for renewal. How do I cancel my account??? Please reply..Version: 4.19.0

ZINIOCrashes way to much for my liking..Version: 4.27.1

Great update but loss of existing bookmarks is a HUGE mistakeI have been using ZINIO for a few years as my preferred way to read and manage magazine subscriptions. This new update looks pretty good and enhances a few features and the downloads seem to be a bit quicker. HOWEVER ..... the fact they did not find a way to bring across all the bookmarks from the previous version is a huge loss and years of article tagging has gone. JUST GONE!!! Why any developer would dream of deleting all your history in one fail swoop needs to be challenged. The whole point of this way of reading magazines is to be able to quickly refer back to favourite articles. Now I have lost all my history the whole reason for using ZINIO has been wiped out in one update with no possibility to go back. And while you are at it you need to find a way to sync bookmarks across the desktop and mobile apps otherwise you are still missing a huge opportunity to give readers more than just an electronic magazine. Will seriously consider buying direct from the publishing houses in future as some of the apps and delivery methods they offer improves on ZINIO, just means they are not consolidated in a single space. As a new user, without any loss of history this is a pretty good app but be warned they might delete all your bookmarks with another update in the future!!.Version: 4.5.0

Needs heaps more workAs a Zinio user I find this app leaves a lot to be desired. The menu is hard to find and totally illogical. There should be clear menu choices available at the home page. Currently a user can not differentiate between magazines that have been purchased, ie subscribed to, and those on offer. Every time I use the app I struggle to find what I’m looking for, which are just simple choices, like all my magazines that I’ve paid for , what I’ve archived etc. I actually dread using Zinio because I never find what I’m looking for unfortunately. The solution is I think for Zinio to do a new app product testing, and allow 50 plus brand new, genuine, “never before used Zinio” people to subscribe to a magazine via Zinio, save their purchases, find new magazines to purchase etc. This way they would identify issues immediately and this will inform a new much easier to use app. I also suggest that a new app adopt some features of the Overdrive app, used by millions of Public Library users. It’s obviously doing a lot right..Version: 4.11.0

Bad ServiceI bought a achieve 2015 “Smart 智富“ magazine (No. 199_Mar- 15) from ZINIO app, but I received nothing. I contacted the customer service, they did not check carefully then simply told me to sync your library. I did this lots times for many days, the magazine did not show in my library. As it is an old version issue, I couldn’t see it. I relied the email to support team, but no one to solve the problem and rely my email again. I am very upset this purchasing experience. This is my first time to buy in Apple store. I will never buy anything in the future..Version: 4.14.0

Used to be my favorite app.....Have subscribed to 8-12 magazines at any given time over the years. With every new update, the downloads take longer, with frequent needs to stop and restart. If this continues I will have to look at another magazine supplier. 😢.Version: 4.17.0

Most annoyingBeing pushed by the app to rate it. So here is my review: * There is no way to turn off getting the featured articles of magazines I don't care about. I care about my subscribed content and not about the other junk. * In that same turn I always get an activity marker telling me about these useless articles. On the other end I get hassled with an email when subscription content arrives. Really annoying. * Last but not least the content display itself. In one word: horrible. It takes ages for text to become readable. There is no good focus double-click as in safari. Handling and page overview is bad. In Summary: The application is so bad, that I won't renew my subscription, with the magazine once the set period is over. Either they use a good application or I am no longer buying that magazine. I'm looking forward to finally delete this useless app from my devices..Version: 3.4.6

Jacked up pricesThe app is fine as a digital newsstand. However in the last year they have decided to completely rip off customers for back issues. Why would I pay £4 (£1 less than today’s price) for a back issue in 2011, especially as historically you would sell these for between £0.5-£2. It’s pathetic and insulting.Version: 4.10.0

So far still not happy with this appWhen I downloaded my first magazine thru this app a few weeks ago the initial download was really annoying because the screen would go black then flash white when I changed pages. Then I discovered it in my "Reader" section and the problem was solved. I have just now purchased another issue of the magazine and it hasn't gone into my reader section. It's intolerable reading it when the pages flash. Adding to that Zinio is not accepting my sign in. I'm getting a "NSXML Parser error" when I attempt to sign in. AND I would like to contact Zinio customer support DIRECTLY instead of having to go through a very long list of possible answers to my enquiry. Who's got the time for that?!!!!!.Version: 3.4.6

Pathetic4.5.4 Good news ( not) 4.5.4 has rearranged the deck chairs on the Titanic, or something, at least i think so because it hasn't done anything visible. None of the functions work yet, no functionality that was lost has been restored, it still falls over all the time, takes ages to display a page and takes at least 20 seconds to respond to any screen tap. I suppose it may work on IOS 11, but i am not buying a new iPad to find out, and nobody seems to be writing rave reviews. Off to find an alternative now, may come back for version 5 , 6 or 7 but not 4.Anything ------------------------------------------ 4.5.3 4.5.0 was trash, quickly followed by 4.5.1, 4.5.2 and 4.5.3 so obviously never tested. Still trash, completely unusable, if i could give it zero stars i would. -–----------------- Original review read... 4.5.0 Previous version was good, this version is appalling, it deleted all the mags i downloaded over last 4 years, wont load my library, crashes every time, no batch download so would have to use gigabytes of bandwidth and months of time to download one at a Time. Completely useless --------------------.Version: 4.5.4

Won’t allow links to work in my Inspirations magazine subscriptionThe magazine has links for patterns in the digital magazine. They don’t work in the app. When I get the same digital magazine out of the library the links work. Won’t be resubscribing to anything..Version: 4.55.2

Absolutely appalling appHave had ZINIO for years and over time it has become more and more frustrating. I cannot download any magazine without having to try numerous times. It just stalls constantly. Have tried downloading one magazine for a couple of hours now. Not sure why I continue with the subscriptions I have currently. What a shame as it was at one stage a very reliable reader. Bitterly disappointed!!!! Oh, and to make this even worse, lost all of my previous bookmarks when it was updated. Surely this should have been taken into account when developing the upgrade..Version: 4.25.1

New Version DisasterThis was a wonderful app...until this version.... Over 6 years I’ve purchased over 600 magazines and had about 100 articles bookmarked. With the introduction of the new version, I lost all bookmarks and told to go back through my magazines and re=bookmark them. I also had no idea of what I had read and hadn’t read as everything was in one big bucket. And this is customer service! So much for loyal customers. Appalling, I must say.... I also lost features such as the filtering by year that I used constantly..... So much for new and improved.....Version: 4.5.3

Not as good as it use to be!Every time I launch the app now it defaults to the store not my library, despite changing settings and uninstalling and reinstalling the app several times. The auto download and queue functions never work anymore. I have to go into each magazine issue in order for the download to happen, one magazine at a time... I use to be able to launch the app and any new issues would start downloading and queue up with any issues..Version: 4.13.0

4.5.3 update introduces many awful “features”I’ve used this app for about 4 years and though it had some bugs, it was a decent way to read magazines on my iPad. At this point, I’d suggest looking elsewhere. The most recent update deleted all the magazines off of my iPad and in fact the app wouldn’t even start because it couldn’t connect to the Internet. (I guess Zinio product development teams never travel anywhere? Or don’t think their customers do...) Now it appears the magazines that I’ve paid for are stuck in “the cloud” forever unless I re-download all of them. Also it seems everything that I’ve ever looked at is in my library with no way to remove it. Since I’ve already paid for some subscriptions I’ll probably use it until those run out, but after that, I don’t see any reason to continue. They’ve made it very clear people like me who download and read magazines are not their target market..Version: 4.5.3

REVISION UPDATE!!!******BEWARE******* Let me start out stating that ZINIO used to be an outstanding app. Have had it for a few years now. Having said that, there was an UPDATE regarding the app last week. The update screwed up my PDF feature. I would try and use the PDF and all the pages would be black. I tried an experiment, I did the update on my iPhone first and it was screwed up. I went to my iPad. Before I did the update on my iPad, everything was fine. Did the update, screwed up my iPad. I sent a report to customer service regarding this issue. Basically after several emails to customer service, they stated they could not find anything wrong and gave me these 8-10 steps to do on every single magazine in my library. I I have a boat load of them. So, me the customer, now have to go through every single one of my magazines, do these 8-10 steps to fix the problem cause by their update. Not real happy about that and their lack of concern is a bit puzzling. After I get finished updating and fixing my library of magazines that I have purchased over the years, I will not be make anymore purchases from ZINIO..Version: 4.50.1

Buggy, annoying, magazines repeatedly gone after downloadingCan't say how many times I've donwloaded all my magazines, sit down on a plane, and they all show as in the cloud and have to be downloaded again. Some of the ones on my iPad at the moment I've downloaded a dozen times. They used to have something called a Zpass, which there is no way to really configure without great frustration via the web site or the app. I usually have to chat with a support person to make changes to it. The interface is idiotic in that you view by year, instead of just showing everything. So every year from November to February I have to keep switching between 2 years to even see what I have on my iPad. This has been going on for years and it's inexcusable. Magazines should be an amazing experience on the iPad, but they actually make me long for the simple days of paper issues..Version: 3.4.6
